A Structured English Immersion classroom is one where all instuction is in English, but the teacher is trained in using strategies that support language acquisition while teaching content, but the classroom is made up of all limited English proficient students only - hence the term sheltered.

Enrichment or Remediation in education. We sometimes set up programs with the goal of "fixing" a perceived problem with a certain group of students. This type of program is called remedial; if used, this approach could lead to less access to the regular education curriculum for ELL students. An academic enrichment focus for all students, on the other hand, allows ELL students to be respected for their linguistic and cultural contributions to the classroom. Reflect on your philosophy (developed in earlier lessons) and the philosophy of your school. Is the basis one of remediation or enrichment?
