Maybe.
I think we could trim that a bit to be a little more managable.

I personally do not like being confined to a class, which is why in the game I always make a custom one.

Edit: Blast you and your master editing skills!

I've always hated RP's that ask you to state your personality in the profile, and has been one of the main things which has turned me off of RPs. The problem is that by asking for a personality type it sets things down in stone, and forbids extenuating circomstances and character developement. I don't so much worry about Power playing (What you would call Ms Cleoing), mostly because someone saying "You look like this sort of person!" doesn't seem like as big a deal to me as them going "You're weak to this! Ha! I know all!"

And for the most part stats are a pain, but only when you go with a concrete number system. I actually helped build two site wide RP's in the past, one which used a number system and another where we tried something different. For the stat system everything was a hassle because we had to come up with formulas for every type of damage as well as damage bonuses for every single weapon we could think up or had suggested to us. We soon found out that dumping all your points into strength and endurance made you a beast in combat, and that broke our entire system.

The other RP we made (Also site wide. This one never really passed the conception stage, so we ended up remaking the sites old Arena) used what my friend called the Special system. Basically, you had a list of attributes such as strength, agility, intelligence ect ect and you just went through and chose one stat that you were exceptional at, two that you were good at, several which you were average at, and I think it was two which you were bad at. It was designed to help people think through their character and how they would approach a fight (Intelligence/magic, Archery/speed, Melee/speed, or melee/strength ect ect) and set guides for their character without making this huge hard to maintain system.

It also allowed for change to happen, because thats what should happen during an RP... Change.

And I have no idea why there is no birthsign included... I just put mine next to my name.

And I have problems with Alignments for a completely different reason than you do. My problem is more that you're once more setting a pair of rails for your character to follow. You're forcing him to follow a track that he might not want to take.

That and Oblivion wasn't really set up as Good Versus Evil, and though I might have problems with aspects of the game (Including its realism XD I am going to mention this alot in the future to be annoying.) I respected the fact that its side quests weren't designed as GOOD VERSUS EVIL! And that the main quest offered a sense of ambiguity, because both a good and an evil character would want to keep existence from ending.

And I always saw class as more of a "What do you think he is?" rather than a skill set. Because not all knights used sword and shield. Some liked the axe, some were better at archery, some liked the spear and maul, and others were pure horsemen.

I could post it one paragraph at a time if that would make it easier to read XD

I was merely agreeing.
However I do like the profs in the different weapon forms.
If only for fluff.
Fighting style seems irrelevant to me.

LOL.

I am from the D&D era, thus my ideals might be different from yours. One thing I have always seen occurring to grow in rps is change alignments. Even if your Chaotic Evil, you have numerous ways as to why your that. Your actions could be completely sadistic to royalty and law, yet you might have a kind heart to certain groups. Really depends how you do things really.

I love how the system of D&D works generally, that being the guideline to get me into roleplaying. Trust me, I know what you mean on the stats, systems and etc. Mostly it's my own two cents on things. This guild could a more proper profile suitable like creating a character from the game itself. Yes its simple and quick, yet sometimes that can set people off from joining.

Still strongly suggest strengthening the profile section, believing there are some small things which can in turn make the profile format for character creation work. Thats all really xD

Edit: Fighting style might seem irrelevant, but truthfully it can describe your character. Hell could say a Berserker, a type of mage you are, a Claymore swordsmaster, Counter type warrior, etc. It all depends .

Profile
Username ~
Name~
Race ~
Birthsign~
Age ~
Appearance~
Faction ~
Weapons~

I went through and trimmed it to what I liked.
Sadly, this is pretty much exactly the same as it is now.

Edit: All that extra fluff is fine, I just don't like disclosing that much about my character. The way I view a profile is basically something you could find out by looking at them. The bio is a means of explaining your abilities.
Beyond that it's no one's buisness.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 14, 2009 11:43 pm

Going by that butchering of my format, its so plain and boring xD. At least the appearance format within there had it where can slowly describe things on their exterior. No one ever wears the same s**t, so a clothing sense is never a bad or really revealing thing to put out.

Obviously Faction and Rank are good to have. On rank can enlist your standings in each group your aligned with. If it comes to disclosing info, then why state the rpc's Gender Preference?

"The way I view a profile is basically something you could find out by looking at them" - With this statement are you telling me, automatically you know their preference gender wise? Not to be rude, but just saying in terms of the current profile format.

Yes not necessary but a good factor was my lil weapon information format. Yes you can say what it is, but with more detail on the weaponry, people can visualize it better at times. Same could be said if you make one for armor.

Anyway I'll drop the subject if anything, however I plan to make my profile in a more in depth way. Keep it mostly in how Cold made it, with a few modifications of my own. If people take advantage, so be it!

How about that slimmed version for public view, and a comprehensive version PM'd to the Mods?

Are you suggesting that for only me or everyone? Because if its the latter that is completely understandable, allowing the mods access the full information. I would regardless save it somewhere, considering I would like to view my full profile xD.

This would likely be the theme for my character, Krazs Gro-Barog

It would be beneficial.
For instance.
My profile states I am proficient with hand axes. I go in trying to dual-weild two long swords.

I get a friendly PM from the mods, telling me to edit as it does not coincide with my profile.

Etc.

Savvy?
And yeah, it's meant for everyone.

Sounds like something sagacious, but yeah I would say its benefical. Guess it's up to the higher ups, but if they agree could make one up to how they want made. Simply have fun crafting characters, so profiles are easy for me.

Have no problem stating it, my character is a hand to hand combat expert/master. He says screw weapons, he uses his fist. As to how it would go in a rp, guess gonna see for yourself xD

edit: My true theme song for him xD

My personal beliefs on the sample profile you posted. Because I am feeling very opiniated XD
Quote:

Profile
Username ~ I like this. Good way to start off lol
Name~ I think you have this in here twice actually, but another good starter
Alias ~ I think this can be merged with the normal name, but thats personal preference. I usually like posting my character names as First "Nickname" Last.
Religion ~ This could be put into the Bio section if it was really important. Either that or it could just be revealed in the RP
Race ~ Important. I like it.
Homeland ~ This could be put into the bio instead of given its own space.
Age ~ I like, but to my embarrassment I usually forget to add it to mine >.>
Height ~ Can be added to appearance.
Weight ~ Same
Built ~ Same
Appearance ~ I like lol.
Blood type~ I fail to see relevance. Reminds me of someone in my old Communnications class though. He asked both me and my teacher what our bloodtypes are. I now get to donate blood if my teacher gets into an accident.
Hair Color ~ In appearance once again
Hair Style ~ In appearance
Eye Color ~ Same as above
Facial Hair~ Same as above. Redundancies abound
Skin tone~ Same as above
Tattoos~ Well, I guess that this could be added to appearance, but if a picture is used than this may be necessary. However, its always better to simplify and reduce things to the necessary.
Occupation ~ Could be useful I guess. I'd need to see the Rp this was made for to be completely sure.
Faction ~ Necessary
Rank~ So I'm guessing that the occupation and their duties within the faction are seperate. Either way this is necessary because people with the same occupation can be different ranks.
Handed ~ Not really pertinent information.
Alignment ~ Unless there is some deep significance to it I find alignment to be a category which is useless. Mostly because in most RPs faction usually dictates alignment, but that annoys me as well. The problem I mostly have with this is that alignments never take into account the different shades of grey. A good man who uses evil to do what is needed. A man who is sorta evil, but still has limits, or even a supposedly good man who causes harm just aren't covered by this. I dislike alignments because I love shades of grey.
Sexuality ~ It still weirds me out that this needs to be a category. Stupid little conservative me I guess. Putting politics aside I think that orientation should best be revealed through RPing.
Personality~ I've already posted my ideas on personality.
Marital Status ~ This will usually be mentioned in the Bio, but if not I guess that this can be useful.. Sorta... Maybe. It reminds me of when one of my characters was seduced by a succubus after getting married. It led to funnyness. Then a semi-psycho chick I was involved with at the time got mad because one of my characters was going out with someone else.... Good times. Don't tell her I said this. (This person was not my beautiful little insanity.)
Clothing~ I don't think this really needs to be covered. At all.

Martial Arts Styles~ As much as I may like martial styles (MUAY THAI FTW!) I don't think this is really necessary. It can be useful to think about, but I don't think it needs to be in the profile.

Proficiency Ranking

Deleted for size.

Proficient In: Instead of providing a list I find it easier to just ask them to go "What are you good at?" I like having a general idea rather than a concrete thing. Concrete things can't change, and they make fights no fun. "I'm a rank six swordsman!"
"I'm rank seven"
"Blast I die!"
Rather if you have two people who said they are "good" at it than the win goes to whoever is better at thinking, or it depends on another thousand of things like emotional status. With a concrete thing it just feels as if you can't change or win even though the other person just got divorced and hasn't been sleeping.

Career Proficiency:
Same point as above. And this list precludes the possibility of skills which can be used for more than one thing. Its a concrete thing, and I hate concrete things in RPs (But outside of RP's I usually love them.... Especially roads. I like roads.)

Weapons I usually like just putting weapon, and they can put down everthing they want to about it.

Name ~ Of the weapon? If it bears mentioning than they will mention it no matter what.
Meaning ~: Most people have no idea what foriegn words mean. They just use them because they sound cool. Besides, nothing is better than revealing it in the RP and watching the guy they are fighting crap themselves because they picked a fight with a dude who has a giant mace which he calls "My d***o of death"
Type ~ This could easily just go under a giant category which goes "Weapon!"
Total Length ~ I like the following merely because I am a geek who is in several Medieval Recreational Combat sports. I've been trying to construct several weapons to exacting length and weight specifications, and thus this appeals to me. However I think that this is largely un needed in an Rp.... On a completely unrelated note can someone lend me some money so I can buy a 33" toughened Omni-blade with a fencer grip?
Blade Length ~ See above
Hilt Length ~ See above. As a side note, am I the only one to have used to hilt to block?
Blade Width ~ See above lol
Weight ~ See above lol
Design ~ See above lol
Acquired ~ Not really that important in my eyes. If it was they would have included it in Bio.

History
Important I like.

Even if your Chaotic Evil, you have numerous ways as to why your that. Your actions could be completely sadistic to royalty and law, yet you might have a kind heart to certain groups. Really depends how you do things really.

Having played several table top RPG's I totally understand alot of your ideals and where they come from. The problem is that online RP's and tabletop games are inheritlty different in many ways. A tabletop is mostly about the adventure, while the online RP is mostly about the developement. Mostly because fights have no real risk in online RPs.

The problem is that from what I have been told (*Grumble grumble*) This Rp guild is more about taking realism (In measured amounts) into Oblivion, instead of trying to make a text version of the game.

And you call that thing simple?!?!?

I think that a small amount of work could be done, but I think that the profile skeleton is pretty good as it is.

It should be mentioned that format was for a feudal japan role play. If I made a different one, obviously be different to some degree. None the less my input was given on things, but hell even a little bit of things included is good.

Perhaps I like alot of detail to really put depth into things, but generally it is helpful. Any who, I must be retiring for the night, tomorrow I'll construct my character. I truly pity the fool who thinks an unarmed Orc is not a threat in this roleplay. twisted

Edit: On the subject of the ranks, never have stated that the ranks there are concrete. Like anyone, if its noticable would increase or decrease depending on what event happens.
