They certinally had reached an impass, as someone was going to get crippled or killed with the way things were going now. He pressured down just a little harder on that arm, but short of doing damage as he knew his throat was at risks other than being choked. "If I go down, I'm not going without you." Narrowing his eyes just the same. "I want this like you couldn't even imagine." Swallowing hard to clear the blood from his mouth, despite the pressure on his throat, "It isn't about facing him on the field. I never have. I'm not so low as other underdark elves as to want to get over my parents by showing them I'm better than them, that's no respect. But you to keep you away from him? THAT I want more than anything."

"It's the greatest respect."
hissing lightly at the extra pressure, and applying some of his own.
"All parents look forward to the day thier children surpass them. and why are you so eager to stop my hand? afraid I'll do what you can't? afraid your father isn't quite as invulnerable and beyond reproach as you think he is?""

"No, I'm not afraid. I know what you want and what you'll do and I'll know what he'll do as well. I merely have my own honor and duties to my family to uphold. Maybe you should figure out what surpassing means to an individual before you speak on it." He was not having another repeat incident like when he was fifteen. He just wasn't. "If you think respect comes in surpassing the parents, well then by putting you down I'm doing my father a great respect in my own right." Still not letting up any pressure, despite everything else going on around him or that this was tournament.
"How long are you going to let them sit down there trying to strangle each other?" It was incredible actually how they were both holding out with showing no signs of letting up soon.

Kaelin had finally had enough. She'd been watching, wincing, and trying to turn her face away for far too long. Things were out of hand and death wasn't supposed to happen at tournament. She knew better than to get involved directly but she did disappear from the stands. Standing on the sidelines while Malikhai fought for his life was one of the hardest things she had to do, but running onto the field would distract him and she didn't trust that the other elf wouldn't press his advantage and kill Malikhai on the spot. When was someone going to get involved? "STOP IT!"

"Doormats to the D'vinns. I don't think I've heard that one." Shaking his head though at the ignorance of others that was clearly defined with that statement. "It's not that we don't undersand, we just don't care to let the stupidity of others affect us." He pinched at the bridge of his nose though as they continued on Lyssie. "She acts like your mother acted, in all honesty. She'll grow out of it." Or so he hoped.
"Well well...what has you so worked up Girly?" Pushing off from the support beam she was leaning against and more or less stalking over to Kaelin. "Oh...the D'vinn boy...looks like he's neck deep in trouble. Literally."

"They think we hide behind them because we're not powerful on our own." She had heard many things over the years that made her less than happy about her family but had stopped fighting back with words and begun proving her magical ability. "Or she'll be raped or get pregnant and be forced to grow up." Shaking her head with a sigh.
Kaelin's heart skipped a beat and she swallowed carefully then turned to eye the woman she'd never wanted to see again. "Hello....Mother..." Taking a deep breath. "Enjoying the tournament?"

"Until one of them gets dangerously close to crossing a line."
watching this with some interest, though not unmindful to the worry of his wife and Kaelin. Giving a particularly cold look to the woman.
"the point remains, D'vinn. that you breaking my arm isn't going to kill me, while I will kill you if I must. I have spent years trying after your father, studying every battle he participated in, learning all the tactics, all the methodology."
Leaning forward, forcing himself off the ground nevermind the obvious cracking of a braking arm.
"I won't be beaten by the likes of you."

That was not something she needed to be saying. "Please don't say that." True as it could be he liked to think better of the fact. He sighed, knowing that the subject of his youngest daughter was ever so touchy. "What do you want me to do? Put her in a box?"
"I would enjoy it much more if HE was in it...but you well know that's not possible now." Pulling a metal file from nowhere and taking to her nails as she sideglanced the girl. Looking out to the field again, "Don't tell me you're all broken up over him being a fool?"

Faate sighed and studied her drink. Her parents were always excusing her youngest sister, patting her on the head, and letting her do pretty much whatever she wanted. "No, but you might warn her about the dangers of messing around and teasing older elves. Mykorian is too old for her."
"Yes, I heard about Father's unfortunate accident. I'm sure he's not very pleased with his condition, and I hope he's not making life awful for you." She really didn't know what her mother was up to but there had to be a reason that she was standing there right now. "He's not a fool! He's been fighting fair and bravely this entire time. He's earned his victory and doesn't deserve to have it snatched away because someone won't stop this."

"I've already said something, your mother has already said something. Short of putting her in a box, I honestly don't know what to do with her." Blinking lightly though, "Mykorian? But he's interested in you, not Lyssie."
"Awful is an understatement." Swiping at her suddenly with the nail file, pointing it menacingly at her. "Oh is he now? Come now, you think he wins because he can? If he really was something to nod to, he'd end this the old fashioned way instead of playing games." Poking her with the file. "How long do you think you can hide behind him, until he tosses you aside for something better?"

Okay Malik grabbed her by the wrist, and jerked her attention over to him.
"My son won't be tossing anyone aside in such a manner. You'd do well to remember your place when speaking bout a child of mine. I don't take kindly to your insults."
letting her hand go.
"Speaking of which. I don't recall your husband ever putting up even half the fight both of them have been."
glancing at his wife.
"I'll give it five minutes. if it's not resolved by then, I'll step in."

"I don't believe it, Dad. You didn't see the way he reacted to her, the way he took her side. She came up all flounces and flirtatious smiles and he just...lit up..." Shaking her head and chugging down her ale then ordering another one. "But if he wants such an immature and stupid elf then that's fine with me. I don't need him anyway."
Kaelin moved her arm out of the path of the file and jumped back. Things were going to get dangerous soon. "He went to. Did you not see him lift the ax to finish him off? He was tricked into thinking the other elf was dead." Shaking her head. "Someone needs to step in and if they don't, I'm going to take care of it myself." Shaking her head and closing her fists even as Malik got involved. "I can handle this, Lord D'vinn." Thus, she grabbed her mother's arm and dragged her out of the box away from prying ears. "You're wrong. Malikhai loves me."

"You arm is only an obstacle to your throat. Simple as that." Eyes trained on the other and not budging as he moved a bit. "Funny...it looks like I have you down and almost out. You may want to rethink your plans." Smirking. "Besides, he's learned a few new tricks since old Norrathian literature."
"In five minutes, one of them will be dead or on their way to it." Giving him a dirty look then that she usually only gave when she was irritated and pregnant. "Khai shares your sense of pride as well. You handle him, I'll handle the girl." Pregnant and fragily be damned.
She barely acknowledged the man, her attention focused on the girl. "Who said I was insulting him, Lord D'vinn?" Smirking at Kaelin as she knew what was being said between the lines. "Being tricked isn't exactly something to boast about." Flexing her wrist some, though surprised to be dragged off by the girl. Oh look she didn't want other to hear all the dirty laundry. Kaelin was duly slapped hard across the face with her file bearing hand. "Stupid girl. You think he loves you? What could he ever see in a thing like you. More like practice fodder. You shack up with him and make my life nothing but a living hell like you always have, and I'll have to deal with you coming sniveling back when he breaks your little excuse for a heart." Raising her hand again to hit the woman but giving a surprised noise as it was stopped, a hand clamped around her wrist.
"You hit that girl again, and your life will be much more than a living hell. I can promise you that." She may be all fragile and such but no one knew she was pregnant and she was going to put on a good show of being just fine. Letting her eyes drift to Kaelin some, "Kaelin, come here to me."
He blinked blankly...the girl really did have a hard head sometimes. "That's what he does. He's a people pleaser because he's half stupid surface trash." Clearing his throat lightly, "Maybe if you showed a little less guard, he would too." Shrugging lightly, "But if you'd rather not bother, that's okay too. Boys are trouble."

It was on the tip of her tongue to tell him not to be mean but she knew it was his opinion on surface elves and not personally aimed at Mykorian. "Not like that..." she muttered to herself with an annoyed sigh. "Last time I did that and I ended up with a- Never mind." Shaking her head again and pushing her soup over to her little brother. "Here, you can have mine, too. I'm not very hungry."
She'd already closed her eyes as she saw the hand raise. She'd expected that blow, might even have physically turned her face in response before the slap could do it for her. Regardless, there was a lighter mark on her dark face that faded slowly and her mother's nail had cut her upper lip slightly. She was surprised at how much it hurt. "You don't know anything about him." She had no idea what shacking up with him meant but assumed it meant living with him. "He asked me to..." Eyes closed and her body tensed to take the blow once more, but it never came.
"Lady D'vinn, don't." Kaelin whimpered in indecision. Malikhai would never forgive her if she was the cause of pain or heartache for his mother. And she knew how fragile Piper really was. It was probably that reason alone that Kaelin hurried over to her side. She'd protect that woman against her mother or die doing so. "Walk away, Mother. I'm not ever going back home."

He looked at the soup, looked at Faate, then promptly looked to his father. "Daddy, we have to go back and we have to go back now. Right now."
"He's being polite." Raising an eyebrow at her unfinished sentence, though that look moved to his youngest's demands and he looked even more intrigued. "Why is that?"
"Because Mykorian made Faate sad, so I have to hit him."
"And where did you learn that?"
"Zykariel." He beamed proudly.
"Of course you did." Looking back to Faate. "Come on, your brother wants to punch Mykorian. Might as well let him."
"I think she's old enough to make her own decisions. Why don't you take her advice?"
"You ungreatful little whelp. You wouldn't be alive right now if it wasn't for my doing and care. Now you think just because you have an opportunity to move up in the world, temporary as it may be, you can tell me what to do? And you, D'vinn, you think just because your husband rules most of down here, that you're just as good. Well, surface elves are little more than dogs down here and you should remember your place and who you're speaking to." Raising her other hand to hit Piper, but yet another surprised look as there was suddenly a dagger at her throat. "You wouldn't."
"Don't look so surprised, and I absolutely would if I had to. Do you think I wander around unarmed? Hardly. I can pretty up as much as any woman, but I'm always going to have a dagger on me. I may be a dog to you...but at least I'm smart enough to know when to bite." Nodding her head some. "Go on, this tournament and this girl don't need you."
"Mark my words. You haven't seen the last of me. She's mine." Pushing aside the dagger and stalking off.
