"Formidable? Since when did we become ones who go around proving how well our magics and such things are? I never understood where you kids got that in your head." Frowning though as things came to her sister and they were less an praising or excusing of the girl. "Don't call her that." Sore spot for Sevilin still.
"Nobody wants to see him get hurt dear, but you know how boys are." If anything, it was clear that Malikhai had plenty to care about his well being. It was nice to know she wasn't going to worry on her own this time. "I'm afraid he'll kill him, if he gets the chance and thinks he needs to." That's what worried her the most. Perhaps that was the problem of not being outmatched. So many other things could happen. "You can always hault things though, if they get out of hand." He was tournament champion after all, he dictated most everything that happened.
Oh so it was blade tricks right out the gates was it? Fair enough, meant he got to play with his own blade's copied powers from his father's. Besides...Malik would use Malvolence to it's extent if thse two did face one another, better to give him a taste now...and if he didn't match up to even the 'lesser' of the blades then all the better. This was going to be the match most hungered for, he was sure.
Dragon fire lit along his own blade in response, but he let the dirt and dust hit against him, though where his eyes were behind his helm, the openings in the metal shimmered with purple light when the dirt hit him and seemingly dissolved. The trick was old and often used on him from those who thought they could best him quickly, which meant as soon as the match started so did his usual offensive magics. "Tsk tsk, baby tricks."
Bringing his sword down hard at Valten to knock his whirling and what not off of balance. Knowledge of weapons after all, strike right and you throw off the move. Or at least you hoped to. Khai was going on complete offense though this time. Glory seeking Norrathians were to be disposed of.

Valten's blade itself was of planar origin, hence the fire, but he was fluid. flowing around the field of battle.shoving his axe one way didn't do much but have him alter his position and trajectory to flow with the motion and use his fists, knees, feet...even his helm if need be as additional weapons.
"Like I told you...I will test myself to the butcher of bloody kitchicor. and that means going through you, then so be it."
Malik shook his head lightly.
"I don't think this one is looking to kill. Malikhai on the other hand, is a different matter. and you know I will stop it before it comes to that point if I have to step in. I neither want to lose my son, nor see him take a step down a path not worth travelling at his age."

"That's who I meant." She just hadn't wanted to say her son's name in connection with what he was capable of if he felt he had to be. Why did the men in her life have to have the complexes that proved to do more harm than good most times when it came to themselves?
His ease at using his sword with one hand was a valuable lesson he had learned as well, freeing up his other to do as needed, be defense or throwing magics. Clashes of armor. "Over my dead body you will. You should have reached for that goal years ago when I wasn't a threat to you." He knew his father could take care of himself, probably hold his own against this one but at the same time, even giving Valten the chance was not a possibility in Malikhai's head.
A shadow step to free himself from the lock they had on each other for the brief moment, reappearing behind the other and slamming his blade against the back of the other one's armor so hard it brought up sparks. No it wouldn't kill him, but it would kilter him. And his blade followed in deadly arc as well.
((I'm calling NPC rulings. Makes this fight more interesting.))

the clash of the metal of the sword on armor stumbled Valten two steps, before he firmly planted himself and spun hard, his forearm armor intercepting the arcing blade at the meeting of blade and pommel. Blood trickled from the armor but Valten didn't seem to even notice he'd been injured...using the block to grab Malikhai's hand on his sword, at the same time slamming his axe head into Malikhai's chest once, then twice, before shoving him back and away, shaking out his wrist and forearm a bit.
"I was preparing then. and don't think I won't go over a dead body rather then a living one if I have to."
And that axe came swinging like a baseball bat, looking to further injure Malikhai's ribs and middle. an enemy that couldn't breath wasn't so much as threat. and he'd rather not cloud the elder D'vinn's ability through a blind rage at the lose of a child.
"I know. and it won't get that far."
though he was applauding his son in his own mind as he saw the sparks fly off armor. even as the other used his body as a shield, since the axe was a two handed weapon.

The breath was literally knocked out of him along with a bit of blood from his mouth. As he had once said, armor beat you up just as much as an opponent did. Especially one banging on you with hot sharp things. He stubled back a little but shook it off quick. "I never doubt you would. But it's something you'll have to do first."
As the axe made contact with his side, his body dissolved like wind blowing a tower of sand away and Malikhai's and his sword came up in front of Valten from a crouched position, sword contacting with axe handle and Khai pushing with all his force with one arm, to force both weapons up as his armored fist collided into the front Valten's helm as he brought and equally armored knee to his side. More crashing of armor ringing clear from the field and another shadow step dislodged his weapon from Valten's and had him standing on the far end of the field away from the other. He didn't stay there long before he starting into a run toward the other.
Piper nodded to him, trying to keep that in mind. After all...if she got all worried and emotional she was likely to get sick once more and she was trying to avoid it. But it was hard to avoid the worry with the way those two were going at it.

And Valten's armored form hit the ground, this boy was trained in more magics then just a what a shadowknight knew. but the boy wasn't giving quarter, and he liked it that way. So he played possum, taking seconds longer while getting up, the appearance of it doing a bit more harm then he actually had. He even 'slipped' a bit on it. Timing was important, and when Malikhai was nearly on him, he spun up, grabbing the boy by the shoulder and thigh and literrally used his own momentum to lift him into the air and fling him, before getting his axe back up off the dirt.
"Magic tricks won't save you. Don't think that knowing magic gives you any advantage over me."
Before bringing the axe down, intentionally aiming for the blade. the idea to force the boy to let it go to get up, and take those extra few moments to pound on him...though the blade motion was angled to swing wide if he tried his shadowstepping.

Well there was one thing he was quickly learning. Valten was as quick to use momentum as could be at any moment. He hit the dirt with a grunt and a rise of a cloud of dirt from the impact. He brought both hands to his blade, turning it so Valten's axe hit the flat and he braced the impact holding the pommel and one hand up farther on the blade itself, feeling the contact pain shoot through his arms to his elbows and he gritted his teeth.
"Oh, but it does." Kicking a boot up to crack into the front of Valten's knee. And again he did it, all he had to do was break the elf's stance a tad bit to get his chance to get up. He wasn't afraid of fighting from the dirt either, it was just another method to victory. "Careful, you think I tricks and you'll never see the real thing coming."

Malik was watching this in a rather proud father manner. his boy was holding his own, and not resorting to a lot of magical tricks, which meant he was steadfast enough to not rely on them. A strong, and good son. but he patted his wife's hand, and held it...before what the hell, patting Kaelin's as well for moral support.
Valten grunted and his stance shifted lightly, but in response to it he applied more pressure on the blade, before making sparks and shoving his axe up along the blade and down hoping to hook the blade and wrench him forward. and if it didn't work the momentum would let him move his stance and probably keep at him without giving up too much.

She rested her other hand on top of Malik's taking what comfort he was going to give. Couldn't help but worry, Khai was gunning hard for this one.
He let his elbows give a little to better handle the pressure that was being put down on him. But this time, Malikhai let the momentum work for his favor as Valten yanked him forward by his sword. He was going to have to take the hit that came with that motion but the point was he got his feet under him by pushing and flowing with the momentum, digging them into the sand and anchoring himself and more or less bashing his helm into Valten's. "I can last just as long as you can. Don't think you'll wear me out first."

Valten's helm reared back at the impact, but he had Malikhai in a comprimising postion, and used it. the axe whipped around with one hand, and caught with the other and pressure applied. used the axe handle as hard brace to lift Malikhai up into a bearhug and apply all his strength to just pulling the axe closer to his body.
"Don't be so sure."
and applying a great deal of pressure now on Malikhai's lower back and the ribs he'd banged up earlier.

Compromising situation indeed as Valten was trying to crush him and his armor all in one go, his own blade was trapped between them. A time when being bigger than Valten would have been an advantage, but it was reverse in this case. He was sure a rib or two had given at that pressue, not that he was paying attention to pain right now. But his head was processing his options. He could continue his current route, or hope that even the most conditioned men felt to such things as harm touches. But was it worth the risk?
Getting a foot up, he propped it againt The other elf's thigh to use a leverage and pushed back against the axe shaft across his back. His hands gripped his sword and rammed it up between them, sparking off both their armor but making the edge of the blade slip up between the juncture of Valten's helm and the rest of his body armor and letting it alight with dragon fire again. At this point he didn't mind hurting himself to get the advantage, even if temporary.

"You never wanted to be but the rest of us feel like we have to be. It comes from competitions in school and hearing negative things about being the doormats to the D'vinns." Shaking her head and leaning back in her chair with a sigh. "You and Mom just don't understand." She frowned at her father's instant protection of her younger sister. "Then she shouldn't act like one."
Kaelin had been watching the entire thing with clenched knuckles and cringes every time Malikhai took a hit. She'd promised not to interfere but oh it was tempting to do something. Not that she had the power to beat him...the worst she could do was maybe give him a shock or two. "Just don't let him die."

Malik looked at her knuckles and worked his hand into hers, letting her hold that one while his wife had the other. both women were emotional toward his son...and he was a bit interested in how far things had progressed between Kaelin and his oldest at her anxiety.
Okay. now what...if he dropped him...the boy would probably try to behead him. if he didn't the sword's flame was going to get very painful very fast. So he held on, letting the flame sear his face under the helm from teh heat and his neck...squeezing down harder on the boy's back until he couldn't handle it and let go with one hand on the axe and using that hand to grab Malikhai's sword arm and shove back as he fell loose to avoid getting the blade across his throat...adn pulling off his helm and tossing it aside, smoke coming from his cheek and neck where the fire had burned and seared flesh.
"Nicely done."
Before he was back on offense, slinging that axe with precise fluid motions...though trying to get in closer and when he did, he used the axe, or his body as weapons to try to pummel Malikhai's ribs and back some more. the oldest tactic in the book..when an area was hurt, hurt it even more.

His back was going to be a wreck after this, he knew that much. Though he was thanking whatever in his head that Valten let him go before too long as his own armor had been heating up as well. Hitting the dirt again he was to get up, watching as the other discarded his helm. Malikhai pulled off his own helm and let it fall aside, half stifled from the heat created as well and finding it hard to breath while wearing the thing.
"Next time it'll be less threat and more promise to your mortality." His sword meeting Valten's axe again as the other was once again on top of him. The flaw in Valten's plan however was that Malikhai knew the old tactics and he wasn't going to let himself fall victim to them as he went on the defense and avoidance, only to take opportune moments to strike out with his blade or with magic. Though by the way this was going it may just turn into a drag down knock out fist fight. Malikhai had his own plans. He just had to get him on the ground once and then he'd end this.

The boy was quick on defense to his injured areas. he knew where Valten was targeting and made sure to defend it. so change to strategy. blood loss was making sure he couldn't use his axe with both hands from the injury to his forearm earlier...so he brought the but of it down hard in an attempt to injure Malikhai's knee, before dropping the weapon all together and should the knee become a new target use his hands to physically try to dislocated by wrenching around the armor joints...if not, his fist was looking to meet Malikhai's jaw.
