"Well, she's not nice to me either. I'm not going to poison you. And why are you sticking up for her anyway?"
"Which one, I have two?" Giving his dad a grin since he had a feeling he was talking about Lyssie. "No, but I've heard from others who have seen her. Apparently she's showing off her legs again. I nearly punched one of the guys gushing about them out."
"Good luck!" He was excited and settled in to watch his friend beat the pants off of everyone else. He really was that good.
"Of course." She grasped his shoulders and plopped a kiss on each cheek and then one on his lips just for extra luck. "Go get 'em, Dhairiss." And as usual when she became excited about something, she latched onto Malikhai and wouldn't let go.

Malik only gave a small grin, and let his son go to the archery contests..which this year had more then it's fair share of true elves and half elves. competition was fierce, and in many cases the victors were mere centimeters from each other on the targets from the loser. in fact most of the winners turned out to be pure blodded elves. a few drow, and at least one wood and high elf from teh surface who simply couldn't pass up a chance to prove their skills.

"Because I wouldn't be a proper gentleman if I didn't stick up for her, that's why. And there's just no reason for you two to be fighting. You're sisters for crying out loud."
"You know which one." Shaking his head to his son's grin. Zykariel did indeed love to just mess with him. It was some type of affection or other. Of course a shake of his head and a noise. "Nearly? You should have gone through with it. She gets that from your mother. In fact she's a mini version of your mother."
He watched his brother wander off then looked to Kaelin who was being clingy in the good way again. "With that kind of luck I'm sure he's going to blow through the competition."
Dhairiss looked like he was scoring in the back half of things, but anyone who knew him knew that he was playing with his competition more than trying his best right now. He didn't want to show off in the normal archery rounds, just place in the top numbers and then win the rest. That was the fun part. Which meant to trained eyes of those that knew his flighty ways could see he was calculating where in targets he wanted to be based on those around him.
Making sure to place last in the ranks that could indeed participate in arcane archery his excitment level boosted some and he took on an air about him that made others perk up and take notice. Oh yeah he was so waiting for this part. There was nothing like arrows zinging through the air alight with magics.

"Which is why we fight. But if you want to stick up for her, then fine. Go off and find her why don't you? She'd love to know you left me for her." Shaking her head and pushing past Mykorian with a grumble under her breath. Boys.
"Yes, I know. But she gets so pissed off at me when I try to defend her in any way and I just didn't want to hear it." And his mother was exactly the same way. She'd tempt and tease a man and then get highly upset when they decided to take things further. But just like his mother, his sister knew how to handle herself and didn't appreciate interference from men.
"Just wait till you see the kind of luck I plan on bestowing on you, my handsome knight in shining armor."

The archery competitions for regular archery were still close, and Dhairiss almost lost his spot on a couple occasions. but he did make it into the arcane archery set, where arrows of flame, ice, lightning nad other such thigns were used to affect moving and non-moving targets. one archer in particular was fond of nothing fancy but using the winds...and the impact of his arrows into targets make large cracking sounds as the mithril arrows broke the sound barrier and tore massive holes in the targets on impact.
"He's doing very well. definately takes after his mother."
smiling softly to his wife and pressing a light kiss to her cheek, while watching his son play with the competition though it did nearly bite him in the rear a couple times. but his son was doing them proud, moreso his mother who he knew was highly enjoying her sons taking up of her favorite weapon.

Wait what? How did that happen. He shook his head, dealing with sisters was a pain in the butt, especially when they were all pissy. "Fine, I just won't worry about either of you." Thusly he exited the pit and headed to the stand, plopping into the box with the Intharas and D'vinns. After all, he was allowed there. "Your sisters are crazy Zykariel."
"That's why you defend them but always think of an alterior motive to why you're hitting someone. I like to say that they got to close to me and we all know I don't enjoy crowds, especially when they're all close to me." Raising an eyebrow at Mykorian though.
He blinked at that, she usually wasn't so forthcoming with things and it made him grin and give a light chuckle. "Oh yeah? Am I going to be the luckiest elf to grace the field?"
"At least one of them has to do something that has more me than you besides being whimsical and flightly from time to time. Besides...despite all that happened at the first tournament of ours, I did enjoy competing." Shaking her head, "Though he's playing, and if he wants to win he'll stop playing. Question is, does he want to win."
That was indeed the question for Dhairiss as he was indeed goofing off. He was keeping up with the others just fine, though he was adding a little play flare as well to his magics. It was clear that in all the competiton with him, there was one that was indeed looking to win. Did Dhairiss want the burden of wining and titles? Sure why not, at least for a year.
Which then something odd happened and he grew extremely serene and calm, his fidgety nature leaving him as well as the aloof expression he was wearing, taking on one of focus. His turn and he took aim at the progressively harder target before letting both fire and water come to life at the tip of his arrow and trail back towards him, swirling around each other but never touch each other. The simple part was aiming and firing to hit a bulls-eye on the target completely with some nice looking magic effects. After all, this was half accuracy and half showmanship.

"I'm just not as fast a thinker as you..." Shaking his head and then echoing his father's reaction when Mykorian plopped down. "Yes, we're all quite aware of that. What'd they do now?"
Faate was climbing up the stands to sit with her family when she caught sight of Mykorian. Her cheeks heated and she turned around and hastily headed right back down. Damn him.
Maybe not the luckiest..." She still blushed when she remembered some of the lewd things ladies had whispered to their men as they headed out to the field. "But I'll give you as much luck as I can. How's that?"

Oh so that's how it was, was it? the other elf picked up a new bow. a boy that got Malik's attention pretty damn fast too. it was green and gold....and had no string. and he knocked the arrow to the bow, and a string that looked lightly an electrical current appeared as the string. he took careful, deliberate aim at the target... and fired.
The arrow screamed through the air, literally, with a following sound of thunder. it landed right above Dhariss' arrow, with a sound like lightning cracking, leaving dharriss' arrow on fire right below it before a slight sound and water came off the arrow to put out dhariss' burnt one. yeah, beat that.
of course a closer look at the elf himself, flaming red hair in a briad and green and brown marking on his skin in a definate patter along his arms to his wrists and on his cheeks, with rich green eyes..motion to Dhariss to step on up to the plate.

"You'll get it eventually." Catching his daughter out of the corner of his eye and he turned a grin to Kithaan. "How about we go see your sister hm? You haven't said how great she was yet." Letting the boy slip off his brother and heading off to tag after Faate.
"I think they're both mad at me." Shaking his head. "I don't know why Faate is mad, but Lyssie is mad because I told her she was mean to Faate and I wasn't flirting back with her."
"I'll just consider myself the luckiest and let my ego do the rest of the work. You just give me your best shot and we'll see what happens."
Um...wow. Just wow. Though that was a tad show boat wasn't it? Fancy bow and everything to boot. As far as Dhairiss was concerned the bow had done all the work with that one, not the archer. The archer merely fired the bow and aimed the arrow. The young elf regained his flighty apperance some and scratched at his hair as if he was thinking things through.
Stepping back up for his turn he examined the set up that had been set out and searched his brain. Well...this was last round and he could pull it off...may cause him a bit of pain but winning things wasn't all goose down and marshmallows. Little bit of multi-element demo was fun.Not just storm effects. Thusly he got into stance and took up his own old bow again took aim with his arrow.
But a bit of rumbling of the ground and fire erupted around him, a tad goopy as if it was magma and mixed with earth, the two leaping to his arrow and forming onto it. Said arrow was then fired not at the target but straight up into the air. On the trip up, it 'cooled' into an earthern look before water gathered to it and formed to ice, tilting it's flight path back downward and it came down bursting into flame to slam into the target. It stayed long enough for point counting before it suddenly burst into ash as if wind had caught it...and reformed into a perfectly intact arrow.
Giving a look of discomfort, he tugged at the front of his tunic some. Ow.
Which got his mother frowning. "He shouldn't be doing that...impressive as it may be."

That got a slight grin from the other elf, who was watching with interest. that was very showboaty. but very nice. He could try something similar. So he picked up the same bow, the lightning string reforming...and aimed to the air, the marking on his skin lighting up in luminating gold and ashen brown. the scream and sound of thunder as the arrow shot into the air...and several arrows came down, in multiple looks...though on impact most vanished and shot a flare intot he air a bit that had a firework effect...the actually arrow itself sticking right in the backend of Dhairiss' arrow. the elf himself, his markings in a few places looked burnt, but he gave his opponent a pleasent smile.
before patting him on the shoulder and talking to the offical coming over in his own language...motioning to dhairiss and saying who knows what before the offical came over.
"your competition wants one last shot between you both on a moving target. right now we're leaning toward giving you the title, but his last shot seems to push this more to a tie. up to you really on wether you want to let it lie and see how the judges pick, or try another shot."

Hm, that was the same thing just exaggerated. It was still the bow doing the work as far as Dhairiss was concerned. Impressive as it may be. Though he gave a confused look at the pat on the shoulder and then he was talking to judges. Oh great, what did that mean? And he was coming over, fun. Tugging at his tunic some once more and giving another blink, "Sure, why not." He could handle one more shot. "He gets to go first." Needed a little more time for himself.

the other elf gave a warm smile, and took to the target they'd sent out. it resembled a deer, and he took his careful aim witht he target ran around and took flying leaps. this shot would be his prize winner. the mithril arrow shimmered, as if there was somethign reflecting off of it, or if it were made of glass. his demeanor was entirely serious, his eyes compeltely focused and almost trance-like, before the arrow was released.
it zipped through the air with the usual sound of thunder, but not nearly as fast as the arrows before. like he had slowwed the projectile with water magic he'd infused the arrow with. and almost in slow motion, thea arrow hit the top of the deer's hoof as it look to a flying leap, and the magic of the arrow cause a flash of light a chilling crystalizing sound. when the light faded the target was incased in a thin layer of ice, frozen in place in the majestic mid-jump position.

Of course it had to look like something he didn't want to shoot. That would be the way of things. However he merely set aside his own tender sensibilities and tried to focus. This just got fancier and fancier now didn't it? Well he did have one trick that he had been working on downstairs with a few teachers since being home schooled now. Waiting for things to be set up again he considered the slight pain in his chest, and then shrugged it off.
He notched and arrow into his bow again and took careful aim as he watched the moving target go about. Taking in a deep breath to steady his whole body he waited for the perfect moment before hit arrow turned pitch black with a single point of brilliant light at the tip. He fired just as the target was head on with him, letting the arrow swiftly make it's way to the target with the light at it's tip growing increasingly brighter before it incinerated the arrow and black tendrils exploded from the shaft, moving quickly to tangle around the creature and bind it with shadow, which anchored itself to nearby cast shadows on the grounds. Ow...that caused some hurt.

Well that was impressive. and the other elf gladly conceded after that. that was a very interesting methodology and he'd have to make a note to talk to the other elf about it.
Malik on the other hand, was a bit concerned for his son. he knew those motions. and patted his wife's hand lightly while his youngest was awarded the title and money for the archery contests. which mean the next up was the martial ones.
Finally. all the rest was done, and the real competition was coming. he hefted his axe, keeping his shining blue armor coving and also tested out the weight on his lances. he'd had to buy them, spend more of that precious money, but he was hoping that the good weight balance was worth the extra money. and the blunted end for him was the typical fist.

He watched his father and little brother leave and turned his attention back to Mykorian. "You don't understand women yet so let me let you in on a little secret. My sisters like to compete with each other. Lyssie is the winner when it comes to attracting men but Faate can kick her a** in anything magical. So they both try to show each other up any chance they get. And if one is personally involved with something, or someone, it tends to hurt feelings. Lyssie puts on a big show about it but Faate withdraws."
"Deal." Giving him a grin and then watching his brother be rather impressive. He had his moments, didn't he? "Looks like one D'vinn won!"
Kelligrin was watching the whole thing and nearly booed when the elf seemed to be saying something and judges began to talk. If that fool thought Dhairiss was cheating, there was going to be trouble. But then that last shot clinched it and Kelligrin rose to his feet and cheered loud and proud for his friend.
Faate was just kind of wandering, dazed and upset and not really sure how to deal with the whole thing. She suddenly felt like she needed alcohol and the next minute she felt like she couldn't breathe. It made no sense and, never being very adept at handling emotions, she couldn't deal with it.
