"I've thought about it, actually. I'd like to learn as many weapons as I can. Give me lots of room to maneuver in all situations. Right, Dad?" Glancing back at his little brother, he simply rolled his eyes. Kid didn't understand anything at that age. "We have to hurry. Tournament's starting."

"Not everyone." Giving him a grin. "Just me. I know you better than most of the people here. Except maybe your parents." She began walking with him towards the tent where he would be waiting for him turn to joust and fight and whatnot. Tournaments were always crazy and disorganized. "Your father's the reigning champion. He should be on the field."

"Deal, next time I'll get sick all the time. and you can put up with me being cranky."

Though he helped her back to bed, and sat down to help take care of her.

The tournament started with mostly magical displays and profiecenies, with thie rown judges and moderations and limits. illusions and the like. then came magical combat competitions. upon which Faate was entered. Wist was standing by Malikhai, fidgety as always, mumbling about all sorts of variations and equations, probably trying to figure out the ultimate elemental pet to create for conjuration combat.

A frown at him on the cranky part which was followed by a pout, "I'm not cranky." But yes letting him help as he so liked to do these days. Was so not feeling good right now...and here she thought she was going to have a good day. "You can go watch tournament if you want."

"Alright, let's get our seats. We can always shop for pointy things later." Ushering the children off to the stands and their seats they had every year right up in front and secluded from the general public.

"I'm sure my dad has one lying around somewhere that you could practice with. Lots of stuff laying around." But letting Sevilin settle them into their spots...not that he was sitting because sitting was just something he didn't do at tournament a lot.

"Alright I'll give you that." Giving her a grin but his attention was brought outward to the main field again as they all had a good view in the arena of the action. "He rarely makes an appearance until it's his turn. No need to show off." Nodding to indicate the field. "This is Faate's competition...I wonder what new tricks she has up her sleeves." Before angling his eyes downward to the gnome. "Going to put on a show no one will forget? It's hard to impress Kaelin here you know."

Wist only glanced up at Malikhai.

"Oh yes yes yes! but who to bring, who to bring! So many variables, so many choices. the strength of the earth, multiplied by the force of storm and fire...no no....divide by the essence of water...foozlebits! what to do what to do..."

and back to mumbling and going over variations and calcuations probably only another gnome would understand.

Malik shook his head lightly.

"Plenty of time for that.I arranged to have all the non-martial competitions first and Wist begged and pleaded to get a new competition added involving summoned pets and the like. and I know your not being cranky...but we know I do get cranky."

pressing a kiss to her forehead.

Kelligrin flopped happily into his seat along the tournament stands and watched the magical parts of the tournament begin. The first few sets were easily decided and then those winners went onto battle the challengers. His sister was going to be coming out soon, too. "Look, Kit! There's Faate."

And sure enough she was indeed strolling onto the field with her robes floating gently about her as she walked. Her opponent was nothing to worry about and she dispatched him and three others in quick succession without even breaking out her runes. Elemental magic was best to pick off the early and often overeager competitors. When someone more savory walked out then she'd pull out the big guns.

She got her chance about ten minutes later. And before being knocked flat on her face, she saw Mykorian moving out of the corner of her eye.

"Looks like she might not have any after all." Kaelin had been watching the whole thing with barely a sound. She'd given a halfhearted smile to Malikhai's mention of her being hard to impress. On the one hand it really was true but when it came to Malikhai, she impressed all too easily. "Get up, Faate..."
PostPosted: Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:17 pm

"Cranky would not be the word to describe how you would be." No really, why did she have to feel so bad all of a sudden? Ruined her day if anything...it wasn't enough to be sick at home, now she had to feel all nasty at an inn. Joy and rapture. "I better not be getting ready to have a nosebleed or anything..." After all, she did have a track record of reacting to most things Zahara gave her and with being extra sensitive. Well that got a whine noise from her on the notion.

"Faate! Whoo Faate!" Cheering her on perhaps louder than Dhairiss did. Yes he was attached to his sister, but this was all proving to be quite fun. He didn't think it too much though when she took a hit and he got that upset look which only got him a pet on the head from his father who was sitting behind them. "Is that legal?"

He was walking the pits, watching the competition. "Get up Faate! Don't let that hussie get the better of you!" Giving her a specific hand gesture that meant something between them from their younger years. He would be on the field competing...but his arm was in a sling. He had wrenched his shoulder and well...that meant he couldn't play with the other children. She'd kick his butt anyway, they were past the days where he could one up her as he magical prowess just exceeded his own.

She was cocky and she was going to end this early. After all, the Inthara girl was well known and there would be nothing sweeter than taking the ranking from the woman...her plan was to just hit her hard and it already was planning to work. But not waiting more than a few seconds before she thrust a fist into the ground the sand and dirt errupting in a fast moving line toward where Faate lay, looking to hit her while she was down.

He merely chuckled at the creature's rambling...safe to say that he was going to put on a show no one would forget, or bumble it up badly and never forget it. Either way, it would be amusing. But he watched stoically as Kaelin did as things went on. "She'll get up. Inthara's always get up."

He watched without blinking and then just shrugged. "Yup. They're allowed to do pretty much anything they want to each other as long as they don't die. The idea is to knock your opponent out, Kit."

She didn't have to be told twice and she pushed herself up in enough time to see that sandy line heading straight towards her. Throwing up a runic barrier, she watched the sand slam into it and then lie harmless at her feet. After that Faate decided to make short work of the girl. She began throwing barrages of magical energy at her stringing her up with runes and slamming her back into the ground. Easy things that didn't take too much energy but would be very effective against the enemy.

"D'vinn's do too." She glanced sideways at the one Malikhai had been talking to and then turned her attention back to the field. "Sometimes I think you know too much."

Malik took her hand lightly.

"I'll make you feel right as rain, don't you worry. and don't say anything to Zahara."

A slight grin, patting her hand lightly while little rivulets of green flowed from him to her. their job was merely to find the irritated parts of her, and siphon that irritation off and bring it to her husband he wouldn't care about feeling sick to his stomach or anything like that, and if it made her feel better, he'd bear it.

Of course that lead to her quick defeat...it was bad enough to lose to an Inthara but to practically lost while she was wielding baby magics too to stop her.

"That doesn't seem right." He didn't understand this tournament stuff yet, maybe he was just too young or the way he was made him morally uncapable. "She deserves to lose, because being cocky makes you a loser, right?"

"Know too much?" Shaking his head lightly before crossing his arms over his chest and watching things. "I wish dad didn't change the order of stuff, even if he has a reason. I'm getting that itch to do something or other."

"Oh no, you're going against Zahara. Being a risk taker these days." Letting him do what he wanted at this point, though she knew what he was doing indeed....which she didn't like but there wasn't much she could do about it. Besides...most times it worked. Even if Malik was now going to be the one taking on a horrid stomach ache and tad of fever. "Don't do too much, I can't take care of you."

"In some cases. But the better ones win every time, Kit. She was no match for Faate and everyone, even her, knew it. She was cocky because she was afraid and it made her feel better to be cocky."

Faate quickly moved through the ranks until she had one left to challenge, a fight which would come later after the preliminaries in swordsmanship and archery. The final fights were always that of champions. She hurried off the field, shaking off the healer who wanted to attend to the minor cuts she'd sustained from flying debris associated with elemental magic. Seeing that familiar shade of skin and hair, she hurried up and tapped him on the shoulder with a grin. "Too bad you weren't out there. You could have been the champion I was fighting later on."

Kaelin nodded but wasn't quite sure how to explain her meaning. "It's not a bad thing although it's not exactly a very good thing. But you aren't fighting her so I suppose it's fair. Otherwise, it might give you an edge." She was not altogether eager to see Malikhai fight since he might be wounded but she also knew that this is what he lived for. He enjoyed Tournament the way she enjoyed painting and she'd never take that away from him.

"I know, just enough to take the edge off. I won't overstep my bounds but I want to make you feel better, 'chev. and if that means taking on some of your pain and being a little grumpy, then I will."

letting the rivulets fade away, and just dealing with the bit of tummy ache and achiness from her.

"Besides, you have to watch your sons, they'll be disappointed otherwise."

The summon pet fights were underway...several enchanters using charmed and controlled animals against each other. other using various elementals...until Wist. he came out on the field, against a conjuror who was very proud of his earthen golem of steel. Wist gave him a wave, and started his summoning.

Molten lava pooled form the ground, and flowed, starting to take shape ice flowed to help solidify it, lighting filling it's eye sockets...the other simply stared in awe as the dragonic thing formed...and then started laughing when it promptly turned around and swallowed it's creator whole.

"I think I would feel worse if I were cocky, because not only do I know I'm going to lose and I'm show boating, but that means I'm also looking like a bad person to everyone else who doesn't know the meaning of the word respect and good sportsmanship." What?

"Careful with the shoulder tapping there." Giving her a grin and a snicker. "Well you know me, I just can't seem to keep myself in one piece long enough to get things done. But it would have been good for old time's sake, yes? You and me, flinging magic and such at each other...good times, good times. And good show on your part."

"This is true, didn't think about that." After all, an Inthara was about as close to family without being actual family as one could get. You didn't think everything about them. But he merely had to contain his manly urges of battle lust and be content to watch the going ons...which at least proved to be hilarious. "Ouch...well, I suppose that's what happens when you try a tad too hard..."

She supposed that the intent that was a tad endearing of sharing the burden to lessen the pain of it all was the part she should focus on because then it all seemed more poetic and thus better. Which he did take the edge off to where she could actually focus on things other than 'oh dear gods make it stop'. "Disappointed as if there's no cookies to have. Can't let that happen."

"That's right. Can't let that happen, now can we."

A small kiss to his wife's forehead, before glancing out at the field through a window. the conjuration competitons must be going on, there was a lot of laughter to be heard. that excitable gnome, no doubt.

Muttered curses and calculations being uttered, as out of the back end of the elemental beast, steam pouring off his robes. obviously he'd planned for the event, and was still muttering about how he could have possibly miscalculated. his opponent look at the gnome with an amused expression...before sending his golem after the gnome.

the gnome apparently didn't noticed, in fact had his back turned while he was writing out calculations on a piece of parchment. the elemental beast though..bit down on the golem, and it fell apart while the thing ate the metal beast.

Kelligrin blinked down at his brother and then shook his head. Had he been listening to Faate again? She was always spouting that crap. "Sometimes respect and sportsmanship means very little, Kit. When you're in a battle, fighting fair isn't always a possibility."

"I see...how did you hurt yourself?" Instantly becoming concerned and putting her limited healing knowledge to use as she felt the injury gently. Her experienced eyes skated over the wound but glanced up and grinned at him nonetheless. "Thank you. It wasn't much of a challenge but I suppose that's what happens when you've been trained by the best."

Kaelin couldn't stop the slight giggle but she was rather concerned about the summoner. "Is he going to be alright?" Of course her question was soon answered and she watched as the summoners did what they did best. "Does that mean he wins or does the other guy get a chance to bring out a new one?" Malikhai knew so much more about these things than she did. She'd only ever watched the swordsmanship rounds because of Malikhai's participation.

Zykariel snickered at the events on the field as he climbed the bleachers and plopped down next to his father with a grin. "Told you I'd make it. Are we training the young ones in the art of spectatorship so soon? Or just keeping an eye on Mom so she doesn't drive everyone crazy?"

She appreciated how attentive he was to her, because she could only imagine how not fun and unattractive this all was and yet he was putting up with her. But she laid there quietly for a bit, listening to things before clearing her throat some. "Okay, we can go to the stands now, I think I'm good for the time being..."

Dhairiss was getting fidgety and turned a look over to Kelligrin. "I wish it was my turn already, all this watching is boring when you know that you get to do something." Blinking as he realized his works, "No offense or anything."

"Why would we be in a battle?" After all, there hand't been one of those in the years he had lived. They were story book things.

"Oh you know, doing stupid work stuff. Was tightening some roping down at one of the bridges and the rope snapped. I took a tumble back and landed on it twisted under me." Shrugging lightly and giving a grimace to that action. "Praising daddy again hm? Though admittedly he's done a wonderful job with you. I think you'll take champion."

He laughed as well, after all if he couldn't be on the field he could at the very least be amused. Kaelin was enjoying it as well and she had ground level seats. "He'll be fine, summons never truly hurt their masters...if they have good control that is." Tilting his head, "I'm not quite sure. This is a new competition so the rules could be best of a number of rounds or summons or it's one on one move on."

"Late, but yes you made it. Missed your sister...but I'm sure you know the outcome of that already." Which yes Sevilin was very proud of her...it was a rune thing, seeing as his other kids had yet to express an interest in such a thing. He was hard on the girl and she lived up to the standards. "Well, a little bit of both. Your brothers are either in trouble, or little and Dhairiss is flighty. As for your mother...well you know how she is. I haven't gotten a poke on the shoulder about her yet though."
