"One of the reasons, yes. To foist the younger brats onto them when we need to. That's the price of siblings." Chuckling lightly and giving her a smile as she seemed to perk up a little in her mood. Which was always nice. "Hey, I can take care of myself and the kids. The food just isn't stellar." Yes he gave a look to the dishes in the sink before merely pulling her away from it more and heading out of the kitchen with her, "You know you shouldn't ask me challenge like questions, I have a competitive nature."

He grinned at her as her blade slammed against his, causing that vibration to rock through his wrist, but his grip didn't waver. He took harder hits than that when he was still a growing boy and had become accustomed to it. "You're going to have to try harder than that to disarm me." Giving her a little grin before hooking his foot around hers and pulling her off balance and taking the tension off thier swords. "Care to try again?"

"You can and you do, but I do a better job." She was mom. She soothed hurts, settled fights, and read bedtime stories. Sevilin could do all the same things of course and often did, but she needed the ego trip right now. She laughed and pushed him back against the wall, nuzzling his neck. "I love the thrill of competition. I also like making you work for it."

She'd braced herself for the backlash but it still jarred harder than she'd expected. She had to remember she was fighting with a heavier blade and try not to exert so much energy. She flailed with his newest move, dropping her blade reflexively and flipping back so she didn't hit the dirt. A quick kick of her foot had her blade bouncing into the air and she caught it with ease and swung again. "You may be able to disarm me but it won't be long enough to win." She swiped in a wide arc, stepping forward and jabbing in quick succession.

Valten was polishing his armor, checking it, cleaning it, making sure it was in top condition. Too many years he'd watched as the younger D'vinn would win the competition, but not wrest the title from his father. Now was his turn. if he could best the younger D'vinn, who had a unique fighting method of shadowknight skills and illusion, then he could face the elder D'vinn, like he wanted.

Valten's armor was like Malik's neriak armor, cobalt blue with flame and skull motifs along it. the helm had the skull faceplate and a sloping horned backing. it was shining and polished like a dark metallic mirror, and once that was done, he picked up his pride and joy, a two handed battleaxe. the handles was leather wrapped to the head and hilt, and it felt so good to hold.

the head of the axe had a skull in the center, the eye sockets radiated red energy and the edges of the blade seem perpetually coated in blood. an Axe of War, from Drunder, the fortress of the God of War, Rallos Zek. he had taken it off the corpse of one of th Daiku ogres.

Soon. soon he'd show the D'vinns what he could do, adn that the D'morte family was just as potent, just as strong. and he would earn the respect of the Butcher of Bloody Kithcor.

"But I still try really hard." A little playful roll of his eyes. "Work for it hm? Well if that's the case...I'm going to give you a five second head start before I come after you and if I catch you easily, well then I get my way for the rest of the night." Smirking at her, "One...two...three...four...five."

"I only need a second to win." Going with the flow of battle a few moments more before he flipped his blade, using the hilt rather than the blade itself to slam her blade to the side, meanwhile hooking her foot with his again and pulling this time, letting her fall to her back though not as hard as she could have, flipping his blade back and pointing it at her throat. "Still have some learning to do. No worries, we can brush up together."

Swith....to tournament!
------------------------------------

He was in a certain mood today, a quiet ease with a sea of tension just below the surface, that sea bearing swells of his own confidence and anticipation for the thrill of the competition and the game. Of course he had traded in his father's old neriak armor that was long battered from use by them both for something of his own. Blood red with black accenting and scrolling detail, nothing overly fancy but enough to said that he had earned a reputation. A helm that was bladed went to match, though usually that ended up in the dirt, it was good for show. He was currently finishing getting suited up in said armor, buckling on bracers and poking his head out of his door, calling down the hallway to his parents, "Do you want me to go ahead and take Dhairiss so you can take your time with mom?"

"But what if you get hurt?" Questioning his sister as she was getting herself ready for tournament, or at least looking kind of like she was. He was concerned about this whole tournament, seeing as it was going to be his first one that he got to go to.

Faate didn't like armor at all but to please her father and soothe her mother, she did wear a thin veil of chainmail beneath her robe. For tournament, she shrugged off her non-flashy skirts and went with a simply dress in the solid green that did her House proud. She usually wore loose trousers beneath the dress simply to avoid any potential embarrassments and give her ease in movement. Everything was picked for a reason. Picking up the Inthara sash, she settled it crosswise on her chest and ruffled Kit's hair, kneeling down in front of him where he sat on the bed. "Then mom or one of the other clerics will heal me. It's not my first one, Kithaan. Do you have so little faith in me?"

"I don't care, Sevilin. Kelligrin is not competing. Period. If you have to tie him to a chair, so be it but his name should not be on that list and if I see him on that field, Eili help me, I'll tug him off by his ears myself."

Kaelin was out walking, Yinn at her side. She still felt uneasy about the creature but every time she left the fortress, the draithix stuck to her like glue. She had a feeling Dhairiss or Malikhai had talked to the beast and ordered him to do so. Tournament always brought about such conflicting feelings and this year was no different. Malikhai would once again fight to the top and face his father and many of her other friends would showcase their own feats of strength and talents. This year, though, she was concerned about her parents showing up.

Malik was of course with his wife, making sure she ate like she was supposed to and taking care of her. the energy transfers were up to five minutes a day. but they didn't bother malik. he simply siphoned the life off of condemned criminals to replenish himself. but he got his armor packed, and weapon packed, and then carried his wife down stairs to Serino since she still insisted he wasn't going to carrying her in the bed.

"Yes, go on ahead we'll be along shortly. and make sure that Kaelin goes with you and keep your younger brother out of trouble. no buying things without one of us there particularly the sharp things."

“Well I’ve only seen you come home okay, and I haven’t been allowed to go. How am I suppose to know?” Pouting softly at her little reprimand of sorts but he was still concerned. “I’ve never seen you fight at all. Save that one time when that girl called you that bad name, and you hit her.” It was funny, but apparently not right to do.

Sevilin looked at his son, and shrugged his shoulders in the ‘I tried’ way. But when you did something that deserved punishing and Zahara was the one delivering the punishment, there really wasn’t much he could do when the boy really deserved it. “You’ll have to be happy just watching.”

"Right, keep track of people." Finishing up packing what he needed to bring before he grabbed his distracted brother bow and all and headed out and grabbed two horses, Jerik and another which his brother was plopped on and he rode out to get Kaelin, whom was wandering. Trotting up beside her, he extended a hand. "Come on, it's time to head over to Deepwater."

This was still all very weird to her and she didn't know if she liked it or not. Though Malik seemed no worse for wear and she didn't feel like she wanted to pass out all the time now. It still amused her that he didn't want her walking too much, probably trying to head off anything ill that may come of that. "Are you really going to force him to face off with you?" Petting at Serino when he was in reach, getting nuzzling back.

"I know, I love you for worrying about me." Reaching out and drawing the much younger elf into her arms for a hug. "Well, today you'll get to see me fight so try not to be too hard to impress, okay?"

Kelligrin muttered something disrespectful under his breath and then held up his hands when his mother glared at him. "Fine, fine. I'll watch and cheer everyone else on who gets to have fun." Shaking his head and leaving the room rather dejectedly, hands in his pockets.

Seeing Malikhai ride up like an avenging warlord had her pulse and heartbeat going crazy for a moment. At first she didn't even realize it was him until she recognized Jerik. She took his hand and with practiced ease swung herself over to settled in between his legs in front of him. Malikhai didn't like her riding behind because she was still jittery around horses. "I thought your new armor wasn't going to be done in time?"

Okie dokie.” Easy to please thus far he slipped from her arms and off the bed, taking her hand and pulling her along downstairs as he knew she was done getting ready. “Mama! Daddy! Faate’s ready to go!” Called in a sing-songy voice.

“Are you going to at least let him look at sharp pointy things? He likes that better than competing anyway.”

Letting her settle in front of him, he turned a look over his shoulder to his brother. “You stay on that horse, you know you’re not hurting him or anything. Behave yourself. You want to play in tournament you don’t need to be running around all crazy like.” Getting a pout from the younger elf before he gave a soft kick to Jerick and they started off to the tournament grounds. “I never worried, have great staff.” Giving her a little squeeze, “Worrying already?”

Malik gave a nod, before mounting up an an armored Ramoth.

"Yes. if he makes it that far, then I will not let him bow out this time. it's not about pride or respect that he bows out...but I want to have an opponent myself, someone to test me. being champion without defending the title makes a title meaningless."

though giving a light smirk to his wife.

"adn you better be fine, and so help me if Zahara rips into me, your going to hear about it, becuase using serino as a moving bed was your insistance, not mine."

Valten was in his full armor, you'd never know he was even a Tier'dal unless you recognized the armor style, as he was covered, heat to toe in teh cobalt platmail and holding his axe in one hand at the middle, he was at the tournament grounds already, walking along the arena that the main competitions were going to be held, getting a feel for the land, the way the place smelled, felt, tasted. he would be at one with this battlefield, and give himself that advantage over his opponents to be that were probably training their weapon skills.

Shaking her head with a bemused smile, she pulled on her boots and headed downstairs, flexing the fingers of the hand that wasn't being held and ready to get the party started.

"Maybe. Depends on if he behaves and stops mouthing off." Her ears perked up at her youngest's voice and she finished packing her cleric bag. She was supposed to be on the field already... "You're in charge of him, though, so I guess you get to decide that. Come on, we're already late."

"Be nice to him, Malikhai. He's just excited." But then it was off toward tournament grounds, Kaelin clutching nervously to Jerik's mane and then shrugging. "I just have a feeling...and I don't like it much when I have feelings."

Giving Serino a few pets before a little click of her tongue to get him moving to follow after Ramoth, she gave a little sigh to her husband's constant warnings. "I'll be fine with Serino. Stop worrying." Though no matter how many times she said it, everyone still did. "Restless champion hm? Well we'll see how he does...he hasn't failed to impress yet."

"Right, I'm in charge of the kids." Which meant ushering up whomever was going to be going and pulling a quick translocation...which of course came with a tad bit of soothing for Kelligrin whom never liked the action and was also still upset. "Come on and let your mother do her thing. We'll be lazy so she can resent us and make us pamper her later." Chuckling Faate under the chin. "Good luck."

"He's not excited, he doesn't want to ride horses because he thinks it's mean to them or something." Shrugging his shoulders on that before his focus was on heading to the tournament grounds. "You're just nervous, you've always gotten butterflies before tournament." Of course the tournament grounds were bustling with activity by the time they got there, people setting up and showing off and whatever was going on. Trotting into the stables, he dismounted and helped Kaelin down as well as his brother, letting attendants take his horse to stable for joust. "Shall we meander a little?"

"It's not about being restless. a tournament champion title has little meaning if you never defend it. I can say I am the tournament champion from how many years ago? but I am still champion becuase no one has challenged me since my son has been a trong and winning competitor. the frst few years it's easy to write off as respect to his father. but after awhile people don't want to see respect. they want to see the younger try to take on the older. they want to know that malikhai has some ambition, some aggression."

A shrug.

"And this plays into other things. people wonder if Malikhai's victories aren't prearranged to make sure I have no challengers. Or what I might be doing behind the scenes to make sure Malikhai doesn't think to challenge me. And I want to see my son really test himself. lets be honest few in these tournaments are militarily trained, or even have malikhai's level of training. most of them rely on a single aspect. brute force, or speed and agility..they don't try to balance out thier strengths and weaknesses. once you find the weakness, they topple like they are made of glass."

Valten was out in the crowd now, still in full armor.in fact, he was looking over the wares of weapon and armorsmiths, asking questions and taking in answers with consideration. merchants that were trying to oversell themselves weren't getting much from him then a cold shoulder and a move along wave of his hand.

She gave him a happy smile and nodded, then headed off to feats untold.

Hated translocation. It shook up his insides like nothing else and made him feel dizzy afterward. He was also still pouting because he wasn't going to get to compete. Which was so completely unfair. He'd forgotten about those damn runes and obviously someone had figured out about the blade and he'd gotten in trouble. How was he supposed to resist? It was such a pretty blade."She signs up for the stupid thing every year."

"No, they like having people on their backs. I don't really understand why..." He was probably right about her being nervous; it happened more often than not. This time, however, she wasn't going to shrug the feeling off. There was more here than met the eye. "Sure. Maybe I can get you to buy me something pretty."

"I suppose so." Not looking to argue with him over such things, whether she didn't have the strength for it or just because she didn't want to was up for debate, but she was going to let him win. "I still think he's unhappy over forfeiting to that Koada'dal all those years ago." Giving a small shurg to that notion. "That' why he wins though, he recognizes those weaknesses and then presses them."

And Kel was going to be grudgeful all day. Patting his son on the shoulder and snatching his youngest by his tunic at his shoulder as he started to wander off he gave a sigh, "Come on Kelligrin, there's no need to make this worse for yourself than it already is. How about we go look at what fancy things people are selling?"

"Buy you something pretty? I suppose I could. Get a discount too, people at tournament are always trying to butter me up for some reason. Usually business." Offering her his arm and keeping tabs on his brother as they melded into the pre-tournament crowd. "If you forgot anything at home Dhairiss, now is a good time to tell me so I can get what you need."
