MelodyUnchained OOohhh.. very true... Melody's Wise Words of the Weekend... Stop making excuses and do it already!. LOL Melody's Wise Words of the Weekend has a nice ring to it! rofl humble_gypsy_traveller I'm easily influenced by people...especially those I'm intimate with...so my g/f smokes too, and whenever I'm around her, I just want to smoke. sweatdrop It's always so much harder when you're not doing it together. It's just like it's hard not to have that piece of fudge that my husband just made. 4laugh even when I'm trying to cut down on sugar.

MelodyUnchained I think procrastination is in the DNA of every man... my ex was like that only somehow... later always won... Not saying that I don't do my fair share of procrastinating but I can usually attribute mine to distraction. I can't help it, I have a goal in mind and all of a su.... oh look, shiney! Later always won... Hehehe, I like that. There's also: Procrastination is like masturbation. In the end, you're only ******** yourself.

He used to be a heavy smoker too, apparently. Although now he takes chewing tobacco... it's still horrible for his health, but at least it doesn't smell and I'm not tempted!

He would argue with me when I would try and help him quit that at least chewing didn't effect people around him like smoking does. I told him it DOES effect me when he would leave his little wads of chew around in hidey holes for me to find. There is nothing more discussing.

Just a thought, but maybe if people were left alone about their habits, they wouldn't need to hide it and they'd be able to go about their lives. Who is to say that the reason he leaves his wads of chew in hiding places isn't because he knows you disapprove? At that point, you realize that it's only affecting you because you let it, and leaving the subject alone to allow its course to be run means one less thing to argue about.

It is always easier when there are two, moral support and all that jazz. I will however argue that one piece of fudge won't hurt.... it's the other dozen afterwards you have to find the inner strength to resist.

While I am always in support of letting people do what they will do unless it has a negative effect on my life, in this case we had a 2 year old daughter who would also find his hiding places and decide that since it was ok for him to put in his mouth, she could put it in hers. He kept telling me he wouldn't hide them anymore and use the garbages I provided but alas, he didn't. There were other reasons I didn't like it and I avoided putting myself in situations where I would have to deal with it (ie: kissing) and in the end it no longer affected me.

Thanks for the support everyone.
My bf and I are quitting together, which makes it a bit easier. I'm taking medication to reduce the cravings, and the nausea I get when I'm around cigarette smoke is a great deterrent. I found that chewing on sunflower seeds helps with the oral aspect of the addiction.
I've quit a few times in the past, but my longest run was only six months. Hoping to quit for good this time.

I'd have to side with Melody...one, it would be probably a deadly and of course horrible thing if her daughter found the wads; and two...it's just a disgusting thing altogether. I smoke, so yes, in a way, that in itself is disgusting to some...but her man leaving her wads in hiding places (as well as just leaving them all over the place however) would be like me leaving cigarette butts all over my g/f's apartment when I'm done smoking...it's just wrong and stupid (sorry Melody if calling your man stupid offends you). Plus with Melody having her curious child finding the wads and (hopefully not) putting them in her mouth, is just scary. So free will to do what one feels aside, I feel Melody has a good argument.

Ex man and yes, he was dumb as hell I used to smoke too, but I would never smoke around my daughter. There are just some things she doesn't need to be exposed to. I am all for the inalienable rights of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, only if it doesn't interfere with my rights of the same and forcing me and my daughter to live in that kind of environment did just that. I am in no way saying people shouldn't chew, or smoke or enjoy any other vice one may have (goodness knows I've done my share) just use common sense and decency.
