"I will not permit anything necromantic, Malik. Gestation is delicate enough as it is. Mixing in the magic of life and death will not bode well for natural processes." Shaking her head adamantly. "There is nothing that I can give her without potentially harming the baby. Everything she eats, every bit of magic she comes into contact is absorbed into the baby's system as well. Elven children are better equipped to handle such things but I won't risk it."
Malik had asked the very question that Zahara wanted an answer to as well. "I am surprised it hasn't. I'm fairly sure Piper is as well. That child has a strong concentration of magic about her. I can only come to the conclusion that she is surviving by draining...like a parasite. If the child's will to survive is stronger, her body will compensate by draining Piper until there is nothing left. Piper's body becomes too weak to defend against it and then it will be too late. In light of all this, I believe we should do what nature should have done. I have the means."
"She sounds like she needs to be rescued from something." Kaelin was beginning to draw parallels and figure things out, though it had been a long time in coming. "But what if it isn't coming from the person you want it too? What if someone like me said it to you?"

Her? that put a change on things. the daughter Piper always wanted. Malik glanced between the two of them. and got that thinking look. no using his own abilities. But he was quiet for awhile, considering options.
"How long can this be left alone, before your methods are invalidated."

Of course Zahara was saying everything that she didn't want to hear. Mostly because that was the truth of the matter. And all three of them knew that...and two of them were less keen to take the risk of things. It was worse that she was identifying the poor thing. Could have said it, thing, parasitic belly leech, anything but something that could be personal. Often before this, Piper had tried not to think about the fact that this one was a girl.
"Yeah she does." Blinking at her though on her statement. Where was this leading and was it a good place? He could only hope. "I wouldn't say it was a bad thing....besides, you don't even know who I'm talking about."

"Three months, safely. I can do it whenever if we aren't factoring Piper's health into the equation." Which she knew both she and Malik were which was the whole reason for this discussion. "We all know that this isn't going to work. As much as I hate to steal something that precious away...Piper is more important. And there's practically nothing to be done to make this go more smoothly or easier on either of you. Piper's going to constantly be on bedrest just to have enough energy to eat. She won't be able to roughhouse at all or carry on a normal life. Your time, Malik, will constantly be devoted to your wife. That means balancing your sons, the fortress, and your business and financial affairs with the constant stress of the ups and downs of Piper's pregnancy."
"And you don't rescue her...out of love?" Still trying to figure things out. "If you want to tell me, you can. I don't want you to think you have to or anything like that..."

"Then we'll wait three months, at least. I can handle the rest of it. if I have to I'll simply cease my buisness dealings for a time. take a vacation. I'll do what I have to for my wife."

"It's not about what I want, it's about what's best." As much as she hated to say that. Admittedly she was scared. Waiting was a hazard, not waiting was a hazard and she did know full well how she'd have to live for a year if they let this go on further. Of course she was trying to ignore the fact that 'what was best' did not work for her all the way...best for her phsyically, not so much mentally.
"Oh I try to. She's just stubborn and won't let me." he chuckled lightly and shook his head, this woman honestly. But hey, he needed to find out if his 'fish in the sea' theory was going to go to work and it was better sooner than later. "I'm talking about you."

"At the expense of her life? Malik, you need to seriously think about this before you make that kind of decision. Piper knows her body can't handle anymore children. Why endanger her life? Why make her suffer for three months and allow her to bond even another second with it?" Shaking her head. "I don't like it and I don't want it to happen. It's not the best solution for anyone that's involved."
"Stubbornness can be a good thing sometimes. Maybe she thinks she doesn't need to be rescued and you're just overreacting. You do that sometimes." Though she learned pretty quickly why he said that like that and just blinked at him. "Me what?"

"I am thinking about what's best. but not just physically. mentally as well. and I can help with this. I'll feed my life to her to strength her. to make her strong enough. I have the means to do it...she wants a daughter, and we can have one...or at least try."
frowning lightly.
"It might be different if she'd have told us the second she knew...but she has a bond now. and I know how painfully fragile and aching those can be. and I won't subject my wife to as much mental anguish as her body might suffer physically. she may have physcial difficulties. but we both know...cleaning her of this will hurt her as much physically and even more mentally."

Yes she knew it was her fault for not telling anyone but things weren't supposed to last. Nature was being difficult though. So here they were, trying to make the tough decisions. It really was like there was no right answer to this, just guessing and hoping things went well in whatever direction they went.
"Yes it can be. And I'm not overreacting this time." Shaking his head lightly before he blew out a frustrated breath. She was being dense...but he'd already put his feet in the water and between the odd sensations he was getting from his parents, and Kaelin next to him, it was kind of hard to focus. "You. You're the one I'm talking about. I love you, Kaelin." Tucking his arms behind his head and proceeding to watch the ceiling. "Take that as you wish."

"No, you're not. Malik, if you give her three months to bond with this child. If you let her go around talking about it as her little girl, if you let her get attached and continue in this frame of thought then she isn't going to be willing to give it up in three months. She's going to fight me every step of the way." Zahara was getting upset now. "I know what it's like to lose a child and I know what it's like to want to give yourself for a child. But this is where you are a man and must make a hard decision, Malik. Choose your wife over this thing. Make the decision now. There is no future."
Dense? Yes, she was but only because she wanted to make absolutely certain that he was really saying what she thought he was. It would be humiliating to get excited about something and then find out that, in fact, he was not saying he loved her but that she was stubborn or frustrating or something like that. She gave it a moment to sink in, studying him as he seemed all self-conscious about his decision to tell her. Resting her head on his chest, she snuggled closer to him. "I...love you too, Khai. At least if love is everything Lord D'vinn...your dad...said it was. I don't really know how to love but I'll do my best. I'll love you right." Somehow.

Zahara managed to hit every wrong button there, and it showed when malik's eyes narrowed and got steel hard. tell him to be a man? claim that he wasn't trying to be in the best interest of his wife and family? no future?
"People told us years ago we'd never make it. that we'd have no future. I was told we'd never have more then one child if that. people mocked that I could make the surface grow in the underfoot. and yet, here we are, with two children, a solarium of andalian surface, and now, if piper wants to keep this child, then I will do everything in my power to see that she does."

She didn't care, she was passionate about her position on this issue. "You had to manipulate the laws of nature to get that solarium, Malik. You forced your slaves to do the work to make Piper happy. I commend you on that. But you have two children. Two bright, beautiful boys and she damn near died giving birth to Dhairiss. Sometimes you just don't get what you want. If I had my way, I'd have a son in between Kelligrin and Kithaan. But I don't. Sevilin knew I'd give up my life for my child just like any mother would."
Standing up and slapping her palms down on the table. "Just like any mother would." Repeating for emphasis. "You are playing with your entire future, Malik, for selfish desires that will enrich your life if they come true and destroy it if they don't. You want to worry about bonds? What about the bonds shared between you two? What about the ones between Piper and your boys? Do you really want to face them and tell them that their mother is dead?"

And now they were going to bicker back and forth about this. They were going to continue to get upset till they were both yelling at each other. "Can we please not argue? That's enough...I don't have the energy to tie you both to chairs so you won't go after one another." Shaking her head, "I get it, no one is happy about this. There's a lot of risk to it, I understand that too. Do I know what to do? No."
In his head, he was a three year old in a room full of his favorite cookies, screaming his head off in joyous rapture at the prospect of the place. More composed on the outside here thought he let an arm drop back down to drape around her. "I'm sure you'll do just fine. We aren't born knowing or doing great things, we all have to learn them somehow." Screaming with glee.

his voice was hard, but his attention turned to his wife.
"This is your decision, ultimately. And I am happy that you were able to get pregnant. But I'll leave this decision to you, Piper. to keep the baby or not, I will support you either way. if you choose to give it up, then that is fine, and if you choose to keep it I will do everything in my power to help you through it and take care of you."

"You won't allow it? As if you can actually stop it." Shaking her head and sighing then running a hand through her hair. "You want to do this your way, then fine. But you play by my rules or you don't play. So whatever I say goes. Malik, you'll be transferring energy to Piper to help make up for what the baby drains. Sevilin has runes to help with that so he'll probably run those. We'll start with a minute drain twice a day and see where that gets us but, by the end of this, we're going to need to raise that."
Turning to Piper. "Piper, I want you to spend as much time as you can physically stand in bed. Don't deny yourself reverie and please take extra. Eat at least three times a day, full meals, with a small afternoon snack. If you have nausea and can't get anything down, only tea." Glancing between the two of them. "Shortly before the three month mark, we'll talk again. But if at any time you disobey me or go against my rules then I make the final decision. Regardless of what you want. Understood?"
So...this had gone well? It seemed like he wasn't upset to hear that or even that she might not do that great of a job. "Is loving something that's great, Malikhai? If so, I wonder why my parents don't know how to do it. They like to be great and do those sorts of things." Then another thought. "Does loving you and being loved mean I can't say no anymore? Or that I have to live here with you and can't go back home?"
