"Not think, believe, Kit. I know she has magical powers." Petting at Destyny's nose as she snuffled him and Zykariel bounced the little boy gently. "She saved my life one time. In fact, racing wasn't even that popular of a sport down here yet. There was no such thing as the races, either."

His promise made her relax and she forced a small smile. "Good." Her father would tear Malikhai to pieces and not care too much about what Malik might do in return. Her parents didn't cower before Lord D'vinn or even really give him the time of day. It just wasn't in their blood to worry about someone who really wasn't a threat to them. "I don't have any money to pay you back though. I'll find a job or something and work on it if you have to do that."
PostPosted: Sat Feb 21, 2009 9:29 pm

Malik let his youngest wander off and tapped his wife on the nose with his finger.

"That's right. all my promises get kept, no matter how strange they may seem. and it's done wonders for you...though I wonder if that hasn't helped trigger this little outburst. mayb ahve to stop you from that too."

yes he was teasing her, and she knew it.

Cerrilia looked up, and nodded lightly.

"Hello and welcome. please be seated."

she eyed sevilin lightly, before devoting her attention to business at hand.

"Your daughter has failed her past two major exams, and she has refused to even bother do to many of her assignments. and frankly, she's becoming a behavioral problem among my students."

"Aunt Piper and you made those popular." He knew that much about the racing thing but not much else. "What kind of magical powers?" Tilting his head at his brother and blinking big red eyes at him. "How'd she save your life? With her powers?"

Hold the urge to roll your eyes Malikhai. "You don't have to pay me back. Gifts don't get paid back, you know that. And your only job right now is to get better then to readjust. Think of it as a vacation from your usual life. Those are always fun." Trying to be optimistic, even if optimism was more his brother's thing. Though he did have one question, "You're not mad at me, are you?"

Sitting quietly he had decided to listen, only because it was about his daughter. "Failed and refused from lack of skill, failed because of principle, or you think 'just because'?" After all, he knew his kids. Though Lyssie did confuse him some...since Zykariel, he'd not forced any of them to go to or finish school and Lyssie he couldn't figure out why she was still going if she didn't enjoy it as much as she seemed to project.

Piper gave one of those probably cute noises of protest at that notion, even if he was playing. "First you take away cinnamon, then you're going to take away my solarium. That's cruel of you, leaguing up with Zahara in such manners." Shaking her head lightly, "Besides I was at an age to be flushed and giggly before I left Andal the first time and nothing from there ever made me like this before." And everything in there was from Andal...and sunshine wouldn't do it either. Or so she convinced herself. "Believe me Malik, if I knew what made me like this I would take care of it quickly. As enjoyable as it may be sometimes it's honestly exhausting, not to mention inconvenient with the giggling and hot all the time. I feel like a squeaky hinged furnace at this very moment." Punctuated with a giggle of course.

"Shh, listen to the story." He paused a moment to ensure the child was paying close attention and then began. "I'd been challenged to a race by a very mean elf who thought he was much better than I was. There was a rumor starting about racing possibly becoming an actual sport and I wanted that to happen. So did this elf but he wanted to win and if he couldn't beat me, then he couldn't win."

"That's a lot of generosity, Malikhai." She really did know better than to argue with him. He wasn't usually compromising when it came to her safety and they both knew she couldn't very well go back in that house and get anything. "A vacation that lasts how long?" Was he ever going to let her go back? Did she even want to go back? It probably wasn't wise to consider doing so... "No, I asked you to come and help me. I knew what that would probably mean."

Zahara's eyes narrowed at that. This woman had already decided to sleep with her son and it was a well known fact that Sevilin and Zykariel looked exactly alike with the exception of eyes. Her son had her violet gaze, not her husband's blood red. "I heard about one of those tests and I didn't personally think it right the way she was tested. I understand the benefit of illusions but that particularly one should have never been given to her."

"I'll admit I played dirty on the last test. it was intended to teach her some humility. she blatantly disreguards the structure of my class, she comes in late, she leaves on her own whims, and would rather spend the time I have her chatting about her boy toys and social position then applying herself."

A frown.

"This is not the first test she's failed recently. the last test was one for charm spells and coercion spells. I gave her, and two of my worst students, the targets of Jheregs. they are easily charmed, due to thier low intelligence. the worst students I have came back with teh task done, but not your daughter. when I questioned why, she acted insulted that I dared to do so."

leaning back.

"Her blatant disregaurd and behavior is starting to spread to other students. it's one thing if she doesn't want to take this course...she can always drop it and take something else. but I can't have her acting like she's some kind of queen in my class and undermining my authority every chance she gets. and you know why that is, Zahara."

Malik gave a chuckle at that.

"squeaky hinged furnace...I gotta remember that one. even write it down. I'm sure your father would love it."

before leaning over for a kiss.

"and you know I would never keep you from your solarium. even if Zahara said so. I'd carry you into it myself."

Malik didn't use it much...the light still would hurt his eyes and the nature of it still could bother him.

Hushing himself he watching his brother as he continued on, giving Kit the obligatory pause that all children needed when it came to stories because questions were a grand grand thing. “But just because he lost once didn’t mean that he couldn’t win later. You don’t always win. That’s a silly reason for him to think.”

“I’m a very generous elf.” Well, like his father he was only to select people who met personal standards of him to earn such things. “However long you want. That’s he beauty of vacations.” Though her vacation from Vesendar would be permanent until he decided that she would be safe to go back there and not a moment before. Though he blinked at her statement…that sounded bad. “And what would that probably mean?”

“I’m sure you all will indeed have yourself your own giggles at my misfortune of nature at the moment. You just be lucky you’re not Andalian or this would all be worse.” In fact she saw it as a blessing and was particularly happy that Sevilin’s biology paid her no mind because he was involved with Zahara. Zykariel and Kelligrin? Well…they were half Andalian and thus had enough of the biological ability to indeed get triggered off of her without a care to Malik. Which was both a creepy and distressing thought, she did not need those boys suddenly stalking her.

Though she did grin in the fond loving way she did at him. After all, this was all the side of him that was strictly hers. He’d walk through fire for her, and she knew it. But it was also endearing…he was born of the Underdark and would always stray from the light, just as she was born of the surface and be drawn to it despite how she may try. Which is why she didn’t spend all day and night in the blasted thing, because then she’d likely rarely to never see him. Their kids could go either way with no issue. He got a playful skeptical look though, despite her knowing the truth, “Oh, you’d go against doctor’s orders if it would make me happy?”

He rolled his eyes, why did she had to dance around his questions and merely supply her own information on the matter? “If she’s that much of a hassle to you, you do have the authority to expel her from your class. Why cause yourself any more grief?” Because Lyssie was stubborn for some reason about this schooling business and she wouldn’t drop anything.

"I have before, haven't I?"

A slight grin at her, though her thoughts on kelligrin and Zykariel had also played on his mind. the second she became flushed and giggly on her own, He'd demanded Kieran give him all the information on how it affected males. of course his first reguard was to sevilin. he'd rather not have to bar him from the fortress or fight him. but it turns out...the only one that coudl get triggered were thier boys, and that was iffy at that. Hence the reason Kelligrin hadn't been allowed near his wife recently.

Cerrilia glanced at Zahara.

"Becuase, Sevilin...if I may call you that...while expelling her is an option, I've never had to expel a student from my class, which also reflects poorly on me. the administration is still very much quagmired in old ways. unlike thier llothian roots, where such students would be beaten into submission, they don't want us to touch them in such manners, but still expect us to have the control beating them into submission gives. so a student that defies a teacher, reflects poorly on the teacher. a teacher having to expel a student, reflects poorly on the teacher. we are basically given a choice of either finding a way to control our students, or attempting to force them to quit of thier own volition."

folding her hands on her desk.

"Your daughter is a fine actress, and a potent magical student. I'd like to see her apply herself. with proper education and training, she could be a very powerful enchantress. But I think there is another underlying issue at hand. I've been going through your daughter's records, trying to find other situations or teachers that have had similar issues."

"From what I'm seeing, she's gone through nearly every course this school offers for her age group. Other teachers have told me that while not unruly, she seemed to do just enough to keep her grades high enough to continue studies. I think your daughter is afraid to leave. here, she's popular, and at the top creme of the social circles. and she's trying everything she can to keep it that way. I just happened to get her when the chaffing under being under someone else's watch is starting to show I guess."

"Not all elves are as smart as you." Tapping him on the nose and then thinking for a moment. He couldn't use particular points of the story because Kit was just too young. "He decided to race across the Underdark but there was a jump over a really deep pool of water near Deepwater. And this elf was losing so he cheated."

"So you've proven over and over again." Andal started it and it hadn't stopped once they'd returned like she'd expected. She'd always known she could count on him but it seemed wrong to take so much from him and turn him down all the time as well. Almost like she was using him... "That I would end up here this time. And that you'd likely bar the door and refuse to let me back out, too. I know how much what happens to me upsets you."

"No, you may not." Zahara was maintaining the power boundaries here. They were parents and they had the power and she was not going to let this woman get herself on familiar terms with her husband. Not happening. Most of what she was saying was true but there was something that was upsetting Zahara. Keeping her cool, she folded her hands on the desk. "You're assuming you understand the problem then?"

"Water doesn't stop the special horses. They have the fancy gold shoes or wings." Wrinkling his nose some from his brother's poke that came before. "How'd he cheat?"

He gave a sort of nervous chuckle. "Well...I haven't nailed beams over the outside of your door yet. You can wander around the property as much as you want. I just would feel better if you didn't go back near Vesendar right now. It's best for you that way." Nodding lightly though, "It upsets me more that you defend it. I worry you'll want to do it this time too."

He was about to open his mouth to say the same thing, because he didn’t like being informal with her but Zahara took care of that right quick. Though he did sigh as she continued to lay out his daughter and exactly why she wasn’t going to expel her. Figured she was more interested in her own well being.

“For all your snooping, you seem awfully invested in her future.” Which made him suspicious. He couldn’t help himself seeing as she had already gotten too involved with one of their children. But he was quiet otherwise to let Cerrilia give her own take on things as Zahara more or less called it out.

"Dude, are you going to come over here or what? I already lost this thing once." He had a linkstone in hand and was laying on his bed on his back with his head hanging off the bed.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 5:16 pm

"I'm only stating what my digging has come up with as a plausible reason. and as to her future, that's why I snoop. Lets get this out of the way. I know you don't like me. well I'm not exactly fond of you either, Mr. Inthara. But I do care for those in my class, to see them succeed. wether or not I like them as individuals. I find your daughter headstrong, arrogant, and rather self-centered. but that doesn't mean she doesn't possess talent or skill. and that I'd like to see developed to the best of my ability to do so."

drumming her fingers lightly on her desk.

"I'm asking for your assistance. either we can find a way to correct this issue, or we can find a way to remove her from this class. Because don't think I won't put her through hell to force her to quit if I have to. I can't afford to lose this job over a student's attitude or disregaurd, no matter who's child it is. I nearly did the same to the D'vinn boy, I won't hesitate to do it to an Inthara either."

"But Destyny isn't a special horse, Kit. She can't walk on water or fly." He shifted his brother slightly and began the slow walk back to the house. "He paid a man to hurt me so I couldn't win. I was shot with an arrow and fell into the river."

"I don't think I'm going to be going anywhere for a while. I'm quite content to just stay in bed." She knew he didn't understand and was hard pressed to explain it to him. "They've never used a blade on me before, Khai. Beaten me, yes. Broken my bones, yes. But last night...it was like they really were trying to kill me. And I don't know why or what changed..."

"Dude, I'm on my way." Mocking his friend's tone but in reality he was excited about the blade. Very excited. Thus, it was a hop, skip, and jump to get over to Twilight and he headed inside...then stopped. His nose twitched and he suddenly felt very giddy, almost the way Zykariel got when he smelled cookies. Rounding the corner, he glanced in the dining room and saw his aunt...which filled him with such glee that he was suddenly quite confused. "Hi Aunt Piper..." He wanted to grab her and chase after her when she inevitably ran. What the hell?!

"Lord and Lady Inthara, if you please." Hey, they were nobility and the woman could damn well call them as they were. It might be snooty, but Zahara wasn't giving an inch to this woman. "In other words, you're still assuming."

Leaning back in her chair, she gave a quick glance to Sevilin and then sighed. "Our children are famous in this school for a variety of reasons, mostly dealing with their abilities. Zykariel had powerhouse status even when he was young and as he got older and learned how to control that magic, became a serious threat to anyone challenging him. Faatallon has slightly less raw power than her brother but she grasps concepts almost instantly and has a memory that defies even elven imagination. Therefore, it is assumed that Lyssie has the same abilities and raw power as her siblings. She doesn't. Magic frustrates her very quickly because she simply can't do it as well as her siblings. As an intelligent girl, she learned that by giving off the attitude of not caring, she didn't have to deal with the humiliation that comes from not being as good as everyone else. In short, she has learned to compensate for her shortcomings by focusing on the one thing she is good at--social relationships."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 6:02 pm

He gasped in the horror that his little mind could come up with at that imagery and he hugged his brother because hugs were good things. "Why would someone take money to hurt other people? That's wrong."

"Lazy days in bed are some of the best. Enjoy as you please." Watching her though as the optimism was hard to keep up as she kept shooting it down in some way. "You're older now. If I had to guess...they know you could leave if you wanted to. What other ways do they have to stop you other than that?" After all, she usually didn't do anything to warrant such things. Unless he had become a cause of things...they spent a lot of time together in public and a lot of people assumed things between them. I caused a problem or two a time before.

"Well remember to whoosh with your cloak or whatever you call it." Shaking his head at that and tossing the stone on his bed before sliding off head first and rolling to the floor, belly down to be looking under his bed. Now, where did he stash that thing under here?

“A few times. But not usually when my health is truly a concern.” He flip flopped…sometimes she suspected that’s where Dhairiss got it from, but that boy just had his own way about everything in general. Finally finishing off her plate of food though she turned her attention over to Kelligrin. A giggle as she watched him for a second as he was staring awful hard at her. "Hey Kelli. Looking for Dhairiss?"

Zahara decided to cut to the chase with things that weren't often public knowlege. No, Lyssie wasn't like her brothers and sister in that respect, Kit was even showing more potential at his age than she had at the same age. Nothing wrong with that, but it made her standoffish sometimes to others. Sevilin suspected she had started going through a Zykariel Phase where she reached a point where she didn't know what she wanted to do or what was going to make her happy. He shrugged. "We'll just do you a favor and take her out of your class by request then." It was simple as that for Sevilin.

"Her potential is not in magical power, I know that. but illusions and charms is not about magical power, it's about will and talent. she has plenty of both. if there is a school of magic a girl like her can exceed in, it's this one. I know plenty about the other two that came through this school. I want her to succeed in my class, and I think she has a great deal of potential for this particular study of magic."

glancing between them both.

"If that's how you feel it needs to be settled, then that's how it'll be done. But I would prefer to find a way to make her simply commit to her studies here. Any suggestions as to how to make this particular form of magic, that plays very well into her strengths, more appealing to her?

Malik noted it too. and gave Kelligrin a very cold, very violent stare. in the 'touch her and I'll have you flayed alive' manner. Yep, he'd have to keep an eye on the Inthara children apparently....then that sparked another thought. what if Faate and Lyssie got giggly? oh lord that could wreak havoc on his kids.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 8:00 pm

"It is, but people do do it, Kit. That means you have to be very careful who you say is your friend sometimes. Anyway, Destyny and I were both swimming for all we were worth. She disappeared and brought me the man who had shot me back but his legs were over his shoulders and his arms were twisted up under him. She somehow bent him all up in a really funny position..."

"I can tell you what is not a good idea, and that's humiliating with her brother. If you continue to badger her, she won't ever learn and she'll completely give up. At least now she's still attempting to pass tests." Zahara chewed on her lower lip and shrugged. "She has to want to do it. I can't force her and neither can you. I suggest you talk to her and explain to her that you aren't out to get her like it seems like you are. And possibly offering her a bit of encouragement rather than throwing her social skills and abilities in her face. All her life she's been trying to live up to her siblings' abilities. She knows she can't do it. If she truly has a talent for this, help her discover it. But if she says no and refuses then find a new prodigy."

That stare made him nervous but he promptly forgot about the moment his aunt giggled. If his skin was lighter, her blush would have been reflected in his own cheeks. His hand lifted, twitched and reached before he grabbed it and put it back down. One more step while his lips stretched into the goofiest grin he'd ever worn in his life. No! That's your aunt, you fool! Walk away! Walk away...now! "I umm...heh..."

"But I'm still useful to them. I can do more now than I could when I was younger and I don't make as many mistakes. I also take much longer to break now. Before, bones snapped like twigs. Now...it actually bears some kind of resistance."

He held in a sigh. He was being out voted here and frankly he was wondering why Zahara made him come. Probably for mental support and that was fine, he'd just be quiet.

Well yes, this was getting to be very very awkward wasn't it. She watched him as he was trying to go through the motions of things he probably didn't understand. See, the feeling like a squeaky hinged furnace was making things worse. Today she was particularly hot feeling, which didn't help. A look over to Malik who clearly wasn't happy before a look back to Kelligrin. Well, this complicated things and yet confirmed Malik's paranoia. Could be worse, it could be Sevilin.

He more or less popped up behind his father's chair, watching over the man's shoulder with his head tilted at his best friend. He was obviously trying to process the moment happening as well. That was the look you gave girls when you liked liked them. A squint before he righted his head. "Dude, that's my mom." Wandering over and snagging his friend by his cloak. "We don't look at moms that way." Especially his mom. But a tug on Kelligrin, making him stumble back a step or two. "Come on, if I don't show you now I'm going to forget and you're going to miss out."

That made him rub his hand over his face, pinching the bridge of his nose lightly. She didn't get it. She was just going to tell him how it was better to beat her now when she was older than when she was younger and easily breakable. "I suppose." He figured he'd better agree with her than fight with her again right now. "If you're hungry I can get you something easier to eat, you want anything?"
