[Sil]
?? oAo

As Samantha made her way to the exit, she noticed that Kyle was now
standing there. She tilted her head a moment, realizing that he was talking with
one of the nurses who looked rather.. flustered? She blinked before walking up
to him.

She wasn't rude enough to interrupt... Until she realized that Kyle didn't notice
her and continued to sweet talk the nurse. Samantha raised her balled hand,
letting a small cough come from her.

Kyle had been busy telling the nurse about one of his recent adventures fighting Akuma in the field when he heard a cough from behind him, distracting him long enough for the nurse to slip away and check on the rest of the patients. "Hey kid, how are you feeling...?" he asked, turning his head to find that the woman had fled, "I wasn't done, yet! Hey!" Frowning a bit, he turned back to the girl and subtly glanced around for any other unsuspecting nurses.

"Anyway... If you're feeling better then we should sneak out of here before the Head Nurse finds you up. The fastest way to be discharged from the infirmary is to leave without her knowing!" he said cheerfully, already ushering her out the door. He wanted to see the woman almost as much as he wanted a punch to the face most days, but bringing Samantha there when she was out cold ensured there would be some type of punishment the next time the Head Nurse saw him.

"Isn't it rude to leave without permission though? She didn't object to the man's
pushing but she realized he was in a hurry. "I'm sorry to have caused you that
trouble." She blinked, still being pushed. "How long was I out for, Kyle?"

Once she was out the door she looked up at him before down the hall. "What
happened to the robot? Did they clean it up?" She quickly changed the subject.
"Did you know that woman?"

She almost flushed. That was a terribly bad question to ask. Of course he knew
her, why else would he be talking to her? She looked away. "Forgive me for
interrupting you."

"Do you really care- Wait, don't answer that... I know you do," Kyle sighed, "Don't worry about it too much, alright? People sneak out all the time because she makes you wait forever in there." He paused just outside the door to answer her questions. " Um, I'd say a few hours? It wasn't too long, for a nap I suppose. As for the robot, the Head Nurse called Komui to let him know what happened, so I'm sure he went to retrieve it. I wasn't going back to there to find out," Kyle grimaced, slightly afraid that the robot wasn't as dead as they'd thought.

"Yeah, I've talked to her before... I think her name's Lydia or something...," he said with a shrug, raising an eyebrow at her apology. "Hey, don't worry about it. I pay them a visit every day if I can, so I'm sure I'll see her tomorrow~!" It seemed that he was still oblivious to the way the nurses tried to avoid him at all costs. As he was about to ask the girl what she wanted to do now, he glanced back toward the opening of the infirmary to see the Head Nurse stomping toward them, glaring daggers at the man. "Uh oh... what do you want to do next?! We better hurry, day's a-wasting!" he said nervously, rushing her along as fast as he could down the hallway.

Kiahpup
Kiah matched the sad smile on Sil’s face with one of her own, encouraging her to go on. She felt a little out of place trying to comfort the young woman, but she didn’t remove her arm as she attempted to explain Lavi’s situation. Sil was correct when she stated that “Bookman” didn’t mean much when it came to casual observation, as everyone seemed to know the term without understanding what their line of work entailed. Learning that the two weren’t there primarily as Exorcists baffled Kiah, and she spoke up at the next pause. “So they’re part of a clan that keeps records of things that normal people would never know about… and that’s the reason that they’re here? It’s not because they’re Exorcists, but because they’re keeping tabs on everything that happens in the war...?” Though it might have been a little comforting to hear that there would be something written down to show that the Order did exist at one point in the far off future, she couldn’t help but feel uncertain about the two.

She continued to listen intently to the somewhat confusing view on the Bookmen, heart steadily sinking as it was revealed why Lavi and Sil were not allowed to be together according to the clan. It all sounded extremely unfair to her, not to mention dreadfully lonely, but she was glad that Lavi was truly in love with the older woman at the very least. Kiah stared at the ground in thought for a good few minutes, trying to process everything that she was told. “That all sounds… kind of ridiculous. They’re not supposed to live their lives without anyone by their side until they die? Lavi of all people... he just doesn’t seem like the type to turn his back on his friends…,” she stated hesitantly, visibly upset from all of the information she’d gleaned. Her left leg started to bounce subconsciously as she continued on, voice rising. “And what happens if black ends up destroying the world and everyone in it anyway? Do Bookmen think that they get a free pass from the flood, or Akuma, or whatever the Earl has planned? If they’re not fighting to take down the Earl for the rest of the world, why wouldn’t they do it for their own survival?” With a long, drawn-out sigh she seemed to deflate, slumping in defeat. “Sorry… I just don’t understand their reasoning…”

Determination shown on Kiah’s face as she hopped off of Sil’s bed and held a hand out to help her up, a small frown on her face. “There might not be anything we can do if Bookman decides to leave on his own, but he sure as hell won’t find out about you two if I can help it,” she vowed. “I… suppose that Lavi’s got his heart set on being a Bookman, though… right?” The thought was dismissed almost as soon as it came into existence, but she had to ask for simplicity's sake.

“I feel the same way,” Sil had started, agreeing on the ridiculousness of asking human beings to be something less than human, her eyes finally lifting back to the young woman who was comforting her. Though she didn’t admit it aloud, telling their story to someone else, especially Kiah, had a therapeutic effect. The weight of her own knowledge and the inevitable events that would eventually come had been smothering her slowly from the inside, and the more Sil spoke on the subject the more sure she became that her decision to tell Kiah was the correct one. The last emotion she was looking for was pity—all that Sil wanted was a little understanding. Kiah’s questions caused the older woman to grimace as if the consideration of them cause her some form of pain. “I admittedly don’t know very much,” the confession felt shameful. After all, Lavi was meant to be her best friend and love, so she felt ashamed to know so little about the course of his lifetime. “I suspect Bookman knows some rather frightening things, likely many things we wish we knew, but they cannot tip the playing field in our favor. I don’t understand it either, but if I tried to solve the mystery of those two and their clan,” Sil sighed heavily , “I’d likely go mad and be twice as likely to hate what I see.”

Kiah’s determined leap from the bed startled the young woman, her eyes widening at her sudden conviction. However, Sil took her hand and allowed herself to be pulled to her feet, her tight expression relaxing into one of utter, inexplicable relief at Kiah’s promise. Her hands touched the younger girls shoulders in a gentle hold as she genuinely thanked her. “Do you really think you can stop Kyle, then? I need to know… If not, I’m doomed to a life of degrading costumes and servitude.” Her stomach churned— if this endeavor was fruitless, Sil knew that she would still go through with the degrading act if it meant protecting Lavi’s well-being. He loved the Order and she wanted nothing more than him to continue loving it until he would no longer be allowed with no interference of hers. As the next question was posed, she frowned slightly, her head moving in a jerking, hesitant nod. “That’s his path… and even if Lavi changed his mind—which he wouldn’t— Bookman has to be ninety by now. He doesn’t have the time left to train a new apprentice. Lavi's life is… set.”

Kiah frowned deeply, wishing for her peace of mind that Bookman didn’t have any useful information that could help them defeat the Millennium Earl. If she was being honest with herself, the mere thought brought about enough frustration for her to scream. Though knowing that Sil had been aware of all of this for much longer, and had probably been asking herself many of the same questions if her expressions were anything to go by, it was easy for Kiah to stay calm. “You know, even if they could drive a person mad… I think I’d still like to know their secrets if it could help in any possible way. Though I guess that’s impossible, from how hush-hush it all seems…,” she said with a wry smile, wondering how Sil dealt with it all. She was going to respect Lavi’s privacy and refrain from asking about the Bookmen, of course, but she wasn’t his girlfriend.

Kiah was glad to see that some of the tension seemed to leave the older woman as she stood up, and smiled in encouragement. She was dead set on making Kyle back down, and the grateful hold only served to make her more determined to do so. A stern talking to and a threat of putting snakes in his bed again was sure to do the trick if it came down to it. “Sil, I’m one hundred percent positive that I can stop him from blackmailing you two again. You will never be forced by him to wear anything embarrassing, ever again. Just leave it to me!” she announced with a grin, ready to hunt the idiot down that second. At her nod, Kiah simply sighed, guessing the answer before it was given to her. “I thought so… I’m sure if that was an option, you wouldn’t have needed to tell me all of this…” She was quick to bounce back, resolving to clear up their problem so they wouldn’t have to worry as much. “Well, either way, you won’t have to worry about Kyle again after today. You’ll just have to avoid him until I get my hands on him.”
