He laughed but it came out hollow and distant. "I don't want any money or anything from you. I've already given you far too much." He stayed silent for a long while and then shoved a hand through his hair. It was so much easier to just forget any of this ever happened. "I'll think about it. You might have to deal with a book with the instructions in it, but that's better than nothing."
She didn't have to ask about the girls though she suddenly wanted them back home with her where she could cuddle her small family into her arms and just hold them. She was grateful for each and every one of her children, even more so now that she'd lost one. "Good. Who's that?" Pointing to the girl.

He knew what she would probably do...go into that mode where she tried to run everything perfectly and think she could prevent and or fix everything to compensate for this whole mess. Well...that assassin was in for a world of torture now. A look to the girl then. "She's helping me solve this little Norrathian problem because apprently she's the smartest and bravest to step up."

"I'd prefer your personal attention rather then a book, Zykariel."
giving her best sweet smile, and walking over to him, lightly taking his hands and pressing small kisses to the back of each.
"I'm not as bad as you think I am."
She just gave a nod, and kept still. it was not her place to question or for that matter volunteer anything in this particular situation.

"And I would prefer your minions leave my family alone." Yes, he was still being an a** about these things. Her movements caused him to calm slightly and he flipped his own hands so theirs were palm to palm. "I almost lost my mom. You understand why I'm scared and upset?"
"A child." She wasn't questioning it since they both knew how valuable children could be when it came to knowledge and spies. People didn't believe children were bloodthirsty, but when it came to drow, they were dead wrong. "Is she? Are any of the others still alive?"

"I would have preffered the same, and all but one obeyed that."
A slight shrug.
"Honestly, I can't understand it like you would have me. To us, parents are an obstacle to be removed or distanced from past a certain age. they become rivals, rather then parents. I get the concept, but it's not something I can really empathize with."

A little shrug from him, still petting through her hair. "Most of them still are." It was amusing somewhat, or maybe terrifying, that she could guess what extreme that he would go to when he wanted or felt that he needed to. "I'll just dig deeper till I find what I want."

"I'll help, I'll be a good help, I promise."
getting the feeling that her position might be slipping, thus her protection from those that would be very upset at what she did. that would not bode well for her.

"Try not to torture them too much. Malik does like his little bevy of people down there." A shake of her head and she turned to the small girl, raising an eyebrow. "I'm sure you will, child. Why were you the only one to come forward? Do you not fear him?" Turning to face the girl despite the fact she was intimately plopped on her husband's lap. "What are you called, girl?"
"So I've heard." He was quiet for a moment, trying to imagine what life might be like without his mother and his father the way they were. He'd known love since the day he was born though from only one adult in the beginning, the other swiftly followed. Even though his father didn't approve of him or his lifestyle and had just beaten him, there was a measure of love in every blow delivered; he just didn't want to acknowledge that. "My parents and I care very much for one another. We would die rather than let any harm come to the family. Those sorts of bonds are not easily broken and they tend to make the best of friends enemies when boundaries are breached. You must give me time to think. That's all I can give you."

"I have no name. I fear him, more then them."
a shrug.
"all have secrets, all have deals that they don't want known. no one wants to expose one's belly, even to condemn a rival."

"Well, if they weren't obsinate then I wouldn't have to. They're only bringing it on themselves." It was simple as that for him honestly and it was all business. As for the girl, he frankly didn't care too much either when it came to her. She was just more useful than others were and thus could benefit from what kindness he could offer in the form of peaceful action. "In other words, everyone is too afraid to point fingers at each other. That's just fine with me, if they won't rat each other out they can all play my game together then."

"I gathered as much." Shaking her head and frowning at the girl. Why did she have no name? Nothing to be called? Was she one of Malik's minions that hardly mattered? Watching the girl for a few minutes, she lightly threaded her fingers through Sevilin's hair. "Can't you just rip the information from them? So what if it breaks their minds in the process. They aren't any use to you while they maintain silence and it's fairly clear that there's something else going on behind the scenes." Shrugging. "I want to see the b*****d responsible, too."

"It is nature. a den of vipers do not take kindly to each other. no one wants to leave an opening. to tame a den of vipers, one must find something the vipers will fight for."
she tilted her head lightly.
"vipers are careful when alone. none wish to risk self injury by injuring another. but throw in their midst a rat, and they will devour each other to make sure they can eat the rat."

And there went his wife with her questioning ways when things were just odd to her. He was happy to ignore such details that could be called trivial...besides, he wasn't letting that girl out of his sights so he didn't have to worry about them anyway. "Because, they can either play with me...or they can play with Malik. Better start choosing who's the greater evil to them. After all, you know how Malik is about threats to his family and those under his house as well." And he was counting his unborn son's death in the list of offenses. He wasn't so sure about her seeing his friend down in the breaker room though. "Perhaps when you're a tad more rested." And thusly turning his eyes to the girl. "In other words, you're sticking with me because I'm not risking things."

"Malik has to come home first." Along with her girls. She'd never fully understood the way Sevilin and Malik handled things but it was up to them now. "Meanwhile you let them debate and wonder." Glancing at the girl with a barely concealed smirk. "She looks like a rat to me." Quirking an eyebrow and then shaking her head. She knew she had a fight to win before she was going to be allowed down in the breaker room, but she was going to get there. Her son deserved that much.

Her eyes narrowed some. she wasn't bait.
"you misunderstand."
her eyes seemed to get much older, like she was considerably older then she appeared.
"They will be silent. they will not yield. they know you cannot kill them all, for fear of lord d'vinn. he would not approve. they are betting on their odds of survival, to be best by having no rival."
A small tilt of her head.
"To expose the one you seek, there must be something that they value offered, that is worth exposing themselves to thier rivals. there was a human tale, of a set of dragon seeds sown, that made an legion of soldiers. to defeat them, a man threw a stone into ther midst. they fought among eachother, each blaming the other. they defeated themselves."
rocking on her heels lightly.
"You have your dragon teeth. now you have to find your stone."
