Throughout the years, Silvia Mirabelli had always enjoyed the Christmas holiday. For the first years of her life Christmas had changed slowly, then dramatically until settling cleanly into the lack of normalcy that came along with the Order's version of the religious holiday. Her belief in Saint Nicolas may have long ago faded, but as the month of December rolled around with the crisp taste of winter air and the scent of burning wood in the hearths, Jerry baking the December mince pies with the soft, flaky crust that was meant to bring good luck with each savory bite. Then there was the Christmas tree, always more magnificent and grand each year, towering over the room as a watchful guardian. Each year the decorating of the tree was somewhat of an ordeal with the number of hands that wished to place ornaments, especially hands belonging to minds with visions of grandeur.
It was a time to relish and enjoy their patchwork family that was mercurial yet systematic like erosion in fast forward-- one day a person was there and the next day they could be gone. It was a harrowing reminder on that cold evening as she sat alone in the Common Room, this Christmas seeming more empty than she remembered the many others before. Her body was turned sideways, the warmth of the fire heating her ribs on her left side through her sweater, seeping slowly through her like sipping a warm cup of coffee. Despite the chill of cold, stone floors, her feet were bare and toes curling beneath her legs as she settled like a blooming Italian lotus.
There she sat like a statue, eyes trained on one intricately wrapped present settled beneath the Christmas tree. From a distance she could still remember the flaws in her wrapping-- she had never been very good at the act-- and the frustration of swirling the ends of the bow settled atop the gingerbread tag that read Lavi. While she normally missed her boyfriend an incredible amount, she found his absence twice as harrowing amidst the holiday season so close to their anniversary and thrice so when there was a difficult situation to be discussed.
Kyle had successfully cornered her in a way that made Sil incredibly uncomfortable and he was forcing her to act in defense of her own decency. Not having her other half to help talk her through a plan of action had dampened her spirits and drained the joy out of the holiday. The options she mulled over were few and far in between, the only one that made any sense an idea that was risky or could go horribly and awfully wrong, but without Lavi the decision had to be made on her own. She drummed her own cheek, cupped in her palm, and let out a horses sigh. Something had to be done.
((Maaaybe : D I like poetic ghosties. Yay for a kinda long post of randoooom. ))

(( I feel like reminding you that he watches you change will have no effect... :I ))
Though the overall routine of a Christmas at the Order had been lost on Kiah the year before, she managed to jump into planning with vigor. The homesickness always seemed to strike worse during holidays, but it was easier now that she was sharing them with her dysfunctional family instead of the strangers they once were when she had arrived a little over a year ago. Nearly everyone she passed in the halls were in good spirits, but it was still disheartening to see how few were there enjoying the festivities.
The last few days had been spent shopping for materials for winter apparel that her and Johnny were going to make for everyone, and presents that she hoped would jump out at her for those she knew best. At the end of her shopping trip, she'd wrapped everyone's present neatly and simply, curling the ribbons that held the items with a scissor to make them look more decorative.
Kiah frowned in worry as she made her way to the Common Room with a handful of presents in her arms, hoping that she made the right decision with her choice in gifts. She turned the knob of the door with a little difficulty once she got there, kicking it in and causing it to slam into the wall. "Ack!" With a cringe she carefully guided it shut with her foot, turning around with a small sigh and spotting Sil on the floor, turned toward the pile of gifts under the tree. "Sorry about that, Sil!" she said with a grin, unable to see the frustration that was surely on the older woman's face because of her position, "Were you trying to see if you had X-ray vision?"

Sil's head lifted from her chin at the sound of the door, wincing at the difficulty the young woman had easing into the Common Room. She immediately jumped to her feet to steady the pile of presents, her hands hovering near the packages to make sure none of the carefully wrapped gifts plummeted from her grasp. By the time all the presents were settled under the tree, Sil had wiped the look from her face and replaced it with the most believable smile she could muster faced with part of her decision.
"I don't need X-ray vision... I have the cards, after all," she answered, wiggling her fingers in the overly dramatic mysterious way, her voice wavering like some sort of theatrical magician. However, the easy, silly smile on her soft lips added to the element of jesting. "If we put any more presents under that tree it's gonna tip over, though," Sil added thoughtfully, placing her hands on her hips as she tilted her head. The perfect packages were appearing in rapid succession now that Christmas was upon them. "I'm having people open mine as I find them, in case I end up on a mission anyway," she added, spotting Kiah's gift nestled beneath the edge of Lavi's gift. "You wanna open yours now~?"

"Phew... Thanks for the help," Kiah smiled gratefully, brushing her hands together once the presents were under the tree. She did take a small amount of time to position them evenly around the tree, wanting it to look as balanced as possible before turning back to Sil. Luckily for older woman, the blonde didn't suspect a thing as she went through the motions of joking.
"Ohhhhh, that's right...," she said slowly, voice filled with disbelief. The fact that Sil mentioned them at all, however, had her wondering just a bit... Kiah looked down at the large stack of gifts already underneath the tree and nodded, arms crossed as she thought. "That's true... we might need someone to bring in another tree if they keep coming," she agreed with a smile. A grimace on her lips at the thought of Sil on a mission for Christmas, Kiah stooped down to pick up one of the packages she'd just brought, one of the more modest in size. Holding it out to Sil, she stated, "Only if you open yours, too~!"
