Or at least, are they common stereotypes?

Sammirah So, being from that part of the world, do you find the stereotypes accurate? Or at least, are they common stereotypes? gaia_nitemareleft I some times get questions like "how do you cope with the polar bears" and we do have polar bears. There's three in the zoo. :XP: Mostly people don't comprehend where I'm from if I say just Finland so I rarely get any really odd questions. It's hard to say what's common stereotype since I hear about them so rarely. I think the most stereotypical Finn would be mute, skilled in rally driving and mobile phones living in a small hut in the middle of a forest with bears and wolves. xd About the muteness and rudeness we are usually accused of... well in general Finns don't want to bother complete strangers by creating up random small talk. It's ok in here to have small quiet gaps between the conversations and in general we don't do small talk. Some say we are uncivilized barbarians because of that and others like that Finns are straight forward. *shrugs* gaia_angelright

I've never seen one. I've seen black bears, though. We have plenty of those on the island. I think the mute stereotype is funny. As far as the comic goes, I like Finland as a character. People in Bhutan love pointless small talk. You'll be in the market, hunched over the vegetable baskets scooping onions onto the scales, and someone you know will come up and say, "Hello! Come for shopping?" I'll be walking up the road to my house and will be asked, "Going home?" Once my boyfriend and I were sitting on the curb outside our house hanging out with the neighbours. An old woman walks by, and looks at us and says something in the local language as she passes, but I could tell from her inflection it was a statement not a question. I look at my boyfriend the way I do when I want him to translate and he tells me, "She says we're sitting." rofl Would that drive most Finns crazy?

I've heard that about Bhutan before, that it's a very jovial country. I'm envious.

Nope, no damage here. I heard there's a little in Kathmandu, though.
Met the King of Bhutan again today. cool He said I'm looking well. Do you think that means he noticed I've lost about 100 lbs since I met him last year?
