There was always something special about the silence of snow falling just outside of the window, the atmosphere of the white blanketed world relaxed and lethargic like being frozen blissfully from the inside waiting to thaw. Sil hadn't yet braved the cold as fall began it's slow descent into winter, and while everything was quiet she had settled down by the fire wrapped up in a blanket reading a book. Even with the cover and the fire, she was still wrapped up in a sweater and scarf, detesting how her room had no fire to settle by. The Common Room was quiet, so she had little complaint.
((Yes it's snowing because ******** you. Look I did something. c: ))

Kiah, who barely noticed the drop in temperature in the castle and was strutting around in her usual attire, had been enjoying the snow when she had the time. She would wear a light jacket whenever she went out, but she had always been fairly resistant to the chill so early in the season. Today she was stuck inside, however, so with a small amount of grumbling she'd carried her stack of papers to the Common Room. Once she arrived, she spotted Sil curled up on the couch with a book and smiled, keeping quiet so she wouldn't disturb the older woman. Kiah couldn't help a small snort as she saw her covered in winter attire while settling on a chair nearby, though.

Kiah had managed to go undetected up until the little snort, which drew Sil's eyes from the pages she had been concentrating on. Though she could easily get wrapped up in fictional worlds (especially romantically inclined ones), her mind was always set to multitask. She quirked an eyebrow at the chipper young woman who had come into the room. "Well if it isn't stylist extraordinaire," she commented, remembering that she was meant to dress Jacob the night they had played rather risky high-stakes poker for clothing. "What are you snorting about, hm?"
As she caught sight of her attire, Sil's eyes widened. The castle wasn't just drafty, it was downright cold in the winter time, insulated like cold storage meant to keep food at a safe temperature. "Are you wearing shorts?"
((*Misses Lavi already.* ;~;!! ))

Kiah's expression quickly turned sour at the mention of styling, remembering what Jacob had put her through. The small scowl was dropped when Sil continued, and the smile returned. "Oh, nothing... it's just you look like you're ready to go on an expedition to the North Pole, or something," she laughed, starting up on her paperwork. An eyebrow was raised at Sil's expression, and she looked down at her outfit, wondering why it was surprising to see someone wearing shorts. "Uh... Yes...? I always wear them, remember?"

"Of course I remember..." Sil rubbed her hand along her face from under the blanket, the fabric soft against her face in an exasperated gesture. "It's like, 30 degrees in here if you haven't noticed. Which clearly you haven't. I think my feet would freeze to the floor if I even tried to walk around barefoot and in shorts."
She pouted a little, burrowing a little deeper into her blankets. "No, because I'd die if I went to the North Pole. They have sent some Exorcists up to Alaska before, though... I think I would actually laugh in Komui's face if he requested I be one of them. I'd be good for nothing but jerky when we all got stranded and ran out of food in the wilderness or whatever."

"Yes, only 30 degrees. So?" Kiah rolled her eyes at the exaggeration and simply shrugged, a smile on her face. "I think it's all in your head. You can walk around without having most of your body covered until it's at least 10 degrees, and even then it depends on the wind!"
"Alaska...?" her eyes lit up a little as she leaned towards Sil in excitement, "You mean Exorcists have really been able to go to Alaska?!" Kiah's head tilted to the side, wondering why she seemed so against the whole idea of it. "I think it would be fun... And it's not too hard to keep track of where you are. If it comes down to it, you could always build a shelter and hunt for food."

"Yeah, I could do that, but I would feel certifiably insane if I tried to walk around mostly uncovered when I can huddle inside my nice, warm cocoon," the pink of her tongue flicked out from between her lips in a teasing little gesture. Nothing was meant by it, but it was obvious that the two young women differed in ways much deeper than their opposing looks. "You can keep your crazy out there."
As for the question, Sil looked bewildered that someone would be excited about going to Alaska, especially during the winter time. Perhaps in the summer she would not have minded a mission so much, but wading through feet of snow sounded incredibly uncomfortable. However, since Kiah seemed interested in the subject she nodded as much as her blanket-restricted neck would allow. "I know that Lavi and some of the others had a mission up there once. That's where they picked up that one Exorcist— Ballentine's kid, Raelie. You know, the blonde one with the freckles?" She assumed by now that Kiah had at least seen most of the Exorcists, if not met them on a personal level. Edward Ballentine was now a part of their Science team, and he was a man that demanded a presence with his tall, burly stature and copious amounts of facial hair. "Ballentine talked my ear off about Barrow, but that man is a certified lumberjack genius. He could probably kill and skin a bear with a teaspoon. From what I heard he almost KO'd Lavi with a door. If you have to be like that to live up there I think I'm screwed."

"Aw, come on Sil! Don't be such a pansy! I bet if you exercised in the training hall, you wouldn't need all of those layers," she stuck her own tongue out in retaliation before pouting slightly in mock offense, "I was under the impression that I was one of the few sane ones in the castle."
"Ohhh, right... I don't know them particularly well, but I've talked to them both once or twice... I almost completely forget they're related when I see them, though." It was a little embarrassing to admit, since she knew most of the members that frequented the castle by now, but the two seemed to be on opposite sides of the spectrum. Kiah's interest continued to grow as Sil went on about the man, not laughing a little at Lavi's expense. "I would love to hear about it... or visit... But why would he try to knock Lavi out?"

While Kiah was kind enough not to laugh at Lavi's expense, Sil couldn't help her amused grin as she imagined it. Of course, she didn't delight in Lavi being injured, but there was more than one occasion he might have deserved a smack to the face for that loose mouth of his. He wasn't hurt permanently and that was all that mattered. "I'm a little hazy on the details. You would have to ask Ballentine or Lavi for the answer to that question, though if you ask Ballentine you'll have to call Lavi "tomato head" to make sure he's talking about the right person," that pleased grin appeared again, mostly because she did delight that Lavi had some retribution for his silly nicknames. When they were younger he had never given her one and she might have taken it a little personally.
At the mention of training, she pulled a painful face. "There's only so many times I can beat up a punching bag before I get bored, and most of the other Exorcists aren't around lately to throw a few good-natured punches at or I might," her voice turned a little bitter, mind off in a place it likely shouldn't have been. "Either way, haven't been real motivated."
