A sad event in Canadian history happened today. We have lost a great man and great leader of the New Democratic Party to cancer at the age of 60yrs old. Now, I'm not a major follower of politics, but I had a chance to meet Jack Layton in person and I have to say, he was a man with great charisma. He was very idealistic and proud in his beliefs that he could continue to make Canada a great country though he never made it to be Primeminister. As a devote follower of the NDP party, I was saddened of the news of his passing at 4am, but not surprised. He had battled cancer for 6 months but never took time off to see through that the voices of his people were heard.

R.I.P Jack Layton, 1940-2011.
I just heard the news. It's a major bummer, for sure. Wishing I was in my homeland right about now.

He could have been as influential in life as I'm sure he will be in death as Piere Trudeu. I got to meet Jack once on Labour Day when he was marching down King St., now I'll never forget his radiant smile and how, excuse the pun, full of life he was. I would have liked Olivia Chow to take his place, though I know how difficult it would be for her. I can't imagine how she will get over the grief of her husband's passing. Something really pissed me off...I was watching Steven Harper banter on about his Taliban conspiracies, then he broke off to "offer his condolences" like he just got the news (although it's possible that he might have just then heard). I just hope the NDP fights harder now that their successor is gone; start working to give the NDP more leverage. What made Jack a greater political figure was that he worked through his pain and tried to act like nothing was wrong with him, although it was obviously visible in his appearance, his flushed complexion and thinner figure then when he started as NDP party leader. cry

I'm sad to hear of his death. He sounds like he was a really good man as well as one of the rare honorable politicians.

Kinda makes you wonder...if he's not interested in it maybe there's a good reason. I'd be really happy to see a new one but not if it stinks. sad Then again, I heard it's extremely hard to get him attached to any movie these days.

Mine and my g/f's good friend is funny about movies...he'll only see a movie if it's gotten good revues. Not if the cast is good, or the storyline or anything like that...it's all about the revues. Like me and her went to go to see Transformers (the one that came out last), and since "he" said it got bad revues, he didn't come with us, but it was a great movie.

Is he going by reviewers who have the same opinions as he does? Or is it just the majority of reviews in general. I let reviews influence me too but I disagree with some reviewers. If something gets mixed reviews I pay more attention to why someone thinks it's either good or bad. I may like something for the very reason someone doesn't lol. If everyone likes it or if everyone hates it then it's easier to believe the reviewers. But mixed reviews don't always mean it's bad.

Usually if a movie gets good reviews, it is bad. Bad reviews, it could be anything. There are few movies you can say are outright bad and those are usually determined by actors.

We don't quite know who he's going with or how movies influence him...but we (me and g/f) tend to go by the trailers and commercials.
