"Apparently so is stirring something with a fork or your finger, or that swishing motion." She had harped on him for such things too but here was the awkward silence part was there? His son had made things quite clear so he didn't think to even try to encourage a good relationship anymore if the boy didn't want it. Zykariel was still his favorite though. "It shouldn't take too long and then you'll be back up and free to do whatever you wish to do. Whatever that may be these days."

"Mom's just weird." Shaking his head and poking at the thin membranes coating his knee and shin. He was going to have to do something to keep it on there unless the heat of the moss at the time of application made it cling like some strange glue? "I don't really know anymore. Racing is always up there and I've been going to school more lately. I just...still can't find what I'm good at." Poking at the ground. 'Besides causing chaos everywhere I go."

"I never mentioned for you to do something as such, merely for you to enjoy yourself be it in self discovery or play." There it was, his son still thinking his father was pushing him when in truth Sevilin had stopped. He just wasn't going to win was he? He couldn't even say something without his son twisting it, or throwing it back in his face somehow. "Being a little hard on yourself though. You don't cause chaos. You're just being a teenager."

"I know that. I just thought I might find something worth pursuing if I stuck with it a little longer. There's a few classes that I'm really good at and those are the ones that I go to. Plus, seeing Nadai the way he is right now kind of convinced me school might be a good idea. Like you always said, racing doesn't last forever." Dad thought he was being hard on himself? He was nuts. "It seems that way to me anyway. I've upset mom a whole lot more lately than I ever did before. What does that mean anyway? Being a teenager..."

"Well...from what I was told...being a teenager means that you're just naturally adrift some. Confrontational some, trying to prove yourself to adults that you can be one even when you're not one yet. Don't know what you want to do or where you want to be." After all he had never had a teenage period as far as he was concerned but that was his own lifestyle. And he'd of course asked questions of one surface elf about such things of children. Not that either of those two would admit to it. "You're still young, you don't have to figure your life out yet. But I am glad that you at least enjoy some of the things other people have to offer you."

"It's just all so confusing. And so damn frustrating." Throwing the rock and then wincing as it struck another with a rather loud clatter. "I don't think half the time before I say or do something and then I wonder why I did say it. Girls are a mystery I still can't explain and I miss Malikhai more than I thought I would. I miss the girls, too. I don't want mom pregnant and I sure as hell don't want another sister, but I can't have my way anymore and I know that. I just don't like it. At all."

"Well...there's perhaps nothing you can do about your mother unless she made that decision herself." And they both knew Zahara's take on it, nothing was going to end unexpectedly without due reason that was more than just family problems. "Maybe you'll get another brother." Not that he paid too much attention to the one he had now. "I suppose all your oversights can be solved with apologies and learning from your mistakes. As for Malikhai and the girls...Malikhai and you have been together all your lives. Now he's not around and there's an empty pocket. He'll be back." He knew what it felt like to lose someone close enough to be called your brother. "And you miss the noise the girls make. I miss them trying to con things out of me." Playing with the rocks some around him as well. "It won't last forever. Few things do, especially the ones we don't like." Or so he was told once.

The mages were studying thier spell books, the warrior making daily prayers when the assassin came to the room, idly cleaning off his dagger.

"Word is that D'vinn keeps his home protected by ogres and other assorted norrathian creatures. droag, enslaved iksar are rumored. and some kinda living gargoyle."

putting his daggers away.

"that not the real danger. the real thing is that he as some other extra-planar Tier'dal that wields a unique brand of magical runing. nothing like the dwarven weapon runes. much mroe elaborate and dangerous. and doesn't require a surface."

The mages looked up...the enchanter shrugged and the wizard nodded.

"We'll need more information on that. is it possible to get him or one of his kin for interrogation?"

"Don't know. word is he has several children. but no one has any way of pinpointing locations. only that the oldest male child is a local horseracer."

"Like that's going to happen." he didn't know if he really wanted a brother or not. At the very least it would even out the gender ratio in the house slightly, despite the fact that one of the boys would be in diapers and the other barely out of them. "I'd like to know if he's made any headway with Kaelin, too. He's so retarded when it comes to women." His lips quirked at his father's words. He knew quite well how the women in the house had twisted his father around their fingers and could pretty much get anything they wanted from him. "I know that. That's why I'm thinking about taking some time away from racing after the major one is over."

"I suppose he's a little socially behind the curve. You should thank your mother for your own social freedom. I wanted you to do what Malikhai used to over at the fortress. You know how I am about privacy." Shrugging lightly to that notion, realizing it probably only gave the boy more fuel against him. "He'll catch up. Or you can continue to lead by example." Tilting his head at the boy, "A break is always good. You don't want to burn out all the love you have for something by overdoing it. The D'vinns and your sisters will be back soon enough and things will be back to normal."

"I don't think that would have worked for me, Dad. I'm a lot like Mom when it comes to meeting people and being outside. I like the interaction. Then again, we have a big enough family now that I'd probably get all the interaction I needed." He knew that Malikhai was already catching up and learning more than Zykariel would have liked in the process. Some people were just opportunists and were going to use him anyway that they could. "Yeah. And I'm just tired of it all. I've been training so hard and this race is really going to kick me right where it hurts."

"Which was mostly her point. We didn't live in societies that we used to so there was no need to keep you all cooped up." Shrugging lightly and frowning at something or other that was on the ground, nudging it with his boot and then paying it no more mind. "Get your big win, take some time off and let some other young racers think they have a chance. Discourage too many and you won't have any contenders anymore."

"then it's decided. we'll get the oldest at the race, and interrogate him for further information. Once we have an idea of the full defensive measures of D'vinn's 'Triumverate Fortress' we'll be able to infiltrate it and find out what the Ebon Mask wants to know, as well as the Queen."

the warrior spoke up, having finished his prayers and devotions.

"We'll leave that to the mages. a woman will get to a boy without rousing suspicion much easier then a man after a race."

the assassin nodded.

"and lets try to get the boy to win. rig it a bit. not too much, but give him an edge. he'll be less in a frame of mind to question after a win more so then a loss. especially the invites of a woman."

The day of the race dawned as unchanging as the Underdark always was. Zykariel had slept out on the hard ground to prepare for it, as was custom, visiting the cave he and Malikhai had made their own when they were still little elves. He missed his friend so much. Waking up, bleary eyed and slightly nervous, he scrubbed at his eyes then quickly dressed and went back home to prepare Destyny for the race. Things hadn't gotten any better between him and his father but he just didn't care anymore. If his dad came, he'd be thrilled. If not, it wouldn't matter.

"I think I want to go with you with the boys to the race." It was stated rather matter of fact as he was leaning on the doorframe, watching his wife get herself and their youngest ready. What mother wouldn't support their child on one of his biggest days of his teenage life. And why shouldn't he too?

Nadai hopped off of Jin, giving the horse a pet and leaving him be a moment as he wandered into the stables to more pointedly find Zykariel. "Well Zykariel, day of the big race of yours. Feeling confident I hope."
