Well yeah I won't disagree there, in guns you need skill but there comes a point that if your facing a mostly competent team you'll need your team mates.
It sucks with some that really just don't know how to play or are to stubborn to do anything other than be useless, but it happens on both ends.
Generally speaking a good team strat is to have 1 runner, 2 blockers, (one to shoot pursuers the other to move in front an divert fire with a shield, preferably one with a heal if possible). Have 1 defender snipe from afar anyone running up but still a good distance away, and then 1 invader to get into the enemy base and draw there attention away from going after the ball runner, or if they don't divert there attention, at least soften them up before they get to the runner.
I like team strategy req though, it can be frustrating, but it's more rewarding when it plays out.
To often I have to carry my team in death match though, always wind up with that one anchor player that's weighing the whole team down with like 4 kill points and 20+ deaths... you know, the kind of person whose only use in death match is to lower your enemies clip by submerging their bullets into their torso so they're busy reloading as you come around the corner.

Simple solution here is for men, I dont play DM. I would play Dm if they either A. Made a free for all DM(which is not chaser despite what dmmers want to call it.) Or they made more maps like ned 2 in which your team spawns on one side and the other team spawns on the other. Now I cant really speak too much here because I dont really play on the maps enough. But from what I have gathered the only maps that I generally like are ned 2 and circle and I am not really all that much of a fan of circle cus the tube pisses me off. Im all, what the hell is the point of having a respawn time if Im gonna spawn inside a tube that "seems" to have a random drop. On ned 2 it actually FEELS like team death match because you spawn on oppisite sides and the map is setup so that you can actually utilize positioning other than just your simple, hide behind the box, tactic. As far as swords go. Although I do like the strat, and there is strat in swords matches there really is. Its just not nessicarly my "team" strat vs your "team" strat. I am the type of player that I dont want to have to fight through a wall of people who are simply spraying at me in order to score, i feel as though you should have to have the skill level to stop me yourself. I like the up close and personal full contact and the thrill nitty gritty ME vs YOU.

i did me vs. you tactics, just with guns rather then swords XD;; i usually ended up in attack range of swords so i had to reflex my way out of it(failed alot against you and sai though = .=;; )

Sorry for the wait ya'll, I'm back now :3 Sadly though, due to the heat wave my electricity had to be shut off because the constant blackouts and blown up fuses were starting to spark a fire D=
Well.. that's half the reason why I haven't been on, but outside of Ele and Den, I don't believe I want to share with ya :3

See that's the thing, I can get up close in "me vs you" in guns. It just requires proper skill use and good jumping ability.
Ie, block / shield / or invisibility if you want to get up close OR, don't run head on, find a way around and circle the enemy from behind and take them by surprise (there's always a way around).

Have to learn how to catch you ******** :3
