As Lavi's arm wrapped around her shoulder she felt a small piece of her unease melt away. When he asked her the obvious question her hands started to squeeze her arms. She swallowed the hard lump that had formed in her throat and shook her head, "No...it isn't possible anymore.." She bit her lip as her mind flashed back to New Zealand, to her encounter with Road and Tyki.

"I'm sorry..." He sighed, rubbing her arm comfortingly. He wasn't sure about their situation and never had much love for Tyki or the Noah in general, but it upset him to see Liv hurting. "I'm sure she'll have a nice birthday here, either way... I think everyone here will be glad to be able to do something as normal and simple as celebrating a kid's birthday."

Liv sat up and sighed, "I'm not upset for myself...I've made my peace with everything. But Luci's still just a little girl, Lavi...I'm afraid when she realizes she's having a birthday without her father....she's been really strong so far..and I don't want that to change," she looked at him and smiled, "...I think you're right. Hopefully with everyone around...you, Sil, and Mishka...she won't think about him."

"I understand that, but... if it's really impossible for her to see him again, she'll have to realize it at some point. Maybe it's even better for her to know sooner rather than later... crushed hope can be even worse." He stared down at his other hand, lying in his lap. "Kids can be stronger than you think they'd be. She's never really had reason to be before, the way she was brought up, so I guess it would be harder for her, but still..." He shook his head and looked back up at her with a smile. "I'll make sure she has a great birthday."

She laughed lightly and slapped his hand, "You're crazy! Lavi...every time we talk we end up exchanging each others' problems. You always help me. And I always try to help you and I always will...you never bother me. I'm here to listen, whenever you need it," she rubbed his arm gently.

"Ouch." Lavi whined at the slap, pulling his hand away slightly at impact even though it hadn't really hurt. "Thanks... cause I think I'll probably need it some more. Even when things are going right I find stuff to worry about constantly." He smiled a little wryly, frustrated with his own doubting self.

"I understand," she got up and went to the cupboards, pulling out ingredients and kitchenware, "Finish up your sandwich and you can have some warm cookies afterwards," she smiled as she started to mix up the batter.
