Marcus watched as the wrap kept hurting the Hoot hoot who retalaated by what the boy recognized as a growl attack.
"Ookay good job Toothless" Marcus said tapping his fingers on his leg as he thought..."good job but switch out." he signalized for his totodile to join in the fray.
"Ziva switch in"
He was glad to see the totodile obey instantly as did the Klow. Both pokemon switched places with the Klow coming back to settle on Marcus' shoulder and Ziva now facing the Hoot Hoot.
"Okay it should be closed now try a scratch attack" he ordered.
Ziva obeyed rushing at the bird Pokemon and slashing with her claws.
Marcus cheered as the Hoot Hoot fainted taking only a moment's hesitation threw a PokeBall at it.

Marcus picked up the ball after the light stopped flashing, returning all his Pokemon afterwards.
Toothless had taken a beating-which..wasn't encouraging as he was suppsoed to be their main electric type. and he wanted to heal everyone.
He walked towards the poke center glad that he had left his stuff in the room he had asked for. The truth was he hadn't really figured out just how long he needed to be in town. He didn't really have a plan.
He knew the broad strokes. Something felt wrong about his friend's disappearance but he wasn't sure what to do about it.
So why am I out here training Pokemon he asked himself as he handed his pokeballs to the nurse Joy.
With a sigh the boy waited for hi party to be healed. The truth was no matter what he planned he would most certainly need Pokemon. And the ones he had raised from the age of ten were mostly untouchable for now.
So really what else could he do but train Pokemon?
The nurse called him and he picked up his Pokemon leaving somber thoughts behind as he headed outside again.
"okay" he said letting the Pokemon out of his bags "let's...let's try again yeah?"

While the other Pokemon trained Marcus sat with the newly healed Hoot Hoot.
He hadn't really thought it through when he caught it. It has just seemed like the thing to do.
Of course now that he wasn't in the heat of the moment he realized when this little guy evolved he would have a psychic type on his hands. Just the thought of it made him queasy.
"It's..it's nothing personal" he said petting the little bird "it's just...I'm not too good with psychics"
The bird thrilled rubbing his head against Marcus' palm and Marcus could feel himself melt.
"but of course..you won't be a psychic for a while"
It was true, he had learned it in the academy he had attended. Hoot Hoot took a while to evolve. Maybe by then he could figure out a way to be around them.
Maybe.
He could keep him until then at least.
"we can try it out. what do you think?"
the Hoot Hoot gave another thrill sound and nodded. Marcus smiled.
"alright then..Plato welcome to the team"
He looked over to where his team was training. Ziva took to battling like..well like a starter Pokemon. And the others seemed to be content enough. Still he worried. This Pokemon were all new. They weren't the ones he had trained with for years at trainer school.
We'll just have to make do, he thought with a grin

Marcus had switched Pokemon and was now sitting with Toothless. He had never pokemon like him but he had to admit he was absolutely taken with them.
"I'm glad you're here too bud" he said when the little creature zoomed around him and settled on hi shoulder. Marcus reached out and ran a finger across the little dragon's back earning a happy sound from it.
"I just wish I knew more about you"
He had checked the dex and so far knew that the Pokemon was an electric type. He wasn't sure when he learned what attacks or what he could evolve into however.
"I wonder if I can find more of you" he mused as the rest of the team kept training.
Toothless for his part just nuzzled against Marcu's cheek making the boy laugh.
"yeah okay. I love you too bud"

Toothless was still perching on Marcus' shoulder when a cry made the boy look towards his totodile
It was facing against a wild Rattata who seemed to have it out for her.
"You're okay Ziva" he said his voice steady standing up with Toothless still on his shoulder "use scratch common"
The totodile did as told cheering by jumping up and down when the Rattata fainted.
"Alright Ziv way to go!"

It felt like they had done enough training for the time being so Marcus gathered up everyone and went back to his room at the poke center.
He was now sitting with a notebook and pencil on the bed he had been give. Toothless was still on his shoulder, while Ziva and Plato were both on the floor. Lace was on the floor and Reina was still in her PokeBall.
I really need to find some body of water to let her swim, he thought guiltily.
"So with Toothless we have lighting and dark, with Ziva we have water, and with Plato normal and flying" he said "we have dragon and water with Reina and grass and poison with Lace"
He scratched the top of his head with the top of the pencil.
"I thiiiiink? That means we're pretty covered?" he said mostly to himself, though having the Pokemon out to talk to made him feel more listened to.
"Of course it would help if I knew what attacks Toothless could learn"
the Klow gave a sad thrill and Marcus was quick to pet it running a finger down it's back
"Hey it's alright bud we'll figure it out"

After looking over the typings Marcus set about feeding all his Pokemon. He was a bit amused to see that aside from Pokemon food, Toothless seemed to chase moths and gnats to eat. He made a not of it. He had been making a not of all the behaviours form this new Pokemon.
If you find anything else new make sure you tell me, Harvey had said, we can call it a research study. I mean they'll cry nepotism but unless you want to change your last name not much you can do about that.
Marcus was certainly up for it. He was way past the time when he would get upset about sharing a name with Profesor Harvey Benett.
It hadn't always been like that, when he was younger and had first started at the school his brother taught it it felt like they wanted nothing more than to be away from each other.
But time had changed that..loss had changed that.
Marcus forced himself not to think about that. not to dwell on loss. He was on a new journey, to get field experience, to finally get hands on training...
To get answers.

Marcus kept staring at the paper as he tried to figure the best way to level up his new team.
Ziva was growing by leaps and Lace and Reina were easily the strongest. Plato and Toothless however were lagging behind.
Apart from wrap, Toothless doesn't have any physical attacks yet, he mused. So it'd better if I keep switching him out.
Maybe he could do the same thing with Plato. He had physical attacks but at level 3 Marcus was hesitant to just have the owl Pokemon fight off oponents on it's own.
"Training them's gonna take a while" he said with a sigh "it's gonna be just like when I started at trainer school"
Of course the school had given them candies to help their Pokemon grow. Now that he was out on his own he'd have to do it the old fashioned way.
"Good thing I got time" he murmured.

The Pokemon had trained and eaten so he quickly returned them so they could rest in their pokeballs and walked outside. He was never one to stay inside for too long.
He walked around the little town looking for anything he might have missed on his nightly walks while he stayed there.
After all you never knew when you could run into something. Last time he had ran into Toothless.

Marcus couldn't help but sigh when he ran into another Hoothoot. He had been hoping to run into a different Pokemon.
Still, at least it would get scanned in his Pokedex for Harvey.
And it was still a battle.
"Okay bud let's go" he said letting Toothless out.
"Use wrap' he ordered.wincing when the Hoothoot outsped him and used Peck.
"Okay that's okay bud it's fine" he said calling him back.
"Okay Plato use tackle" he said switching in the Hoothoot. The bird Pokemon wasted no time tackling his look alike into the ground.
"Niiice"
Once the battle was done he made it a point to use a potion on both Pokemon smiling when Toothless claimed his usual spot perched on his shoulder.
"You'll be fighting fine in no time bud" Marcus said nuzzling back at the little Pokemon.
"Nice job Plato he said smiling whe the hoot hoot hopped in his arm.
"I think we should focus on getting you guys on par with the others before we move on."
Both Pokemon seemed to agree.

Marcus kept walking with Toothless still on his shoulder. Looking around the town made him realize just how small it was.
Marcus had grown up in Eterna, which..hadn't been big but he didn't realize he had no idea how small a town could be until he saw this.
Of course he had visited friend in Vendarturf and Snow point both of which were known for not having a lot of people.
The boy kept walking without destination sometimes stopping to look at a tree or a patch of grass he hadn't seen before.
He still needed to train up his Pokemon after all and that was only really done via finding battles.
"we're gonna be here a while huh" he said petting the snake Pokemon on his shoulder.

As Marcus walked he thought about his family. His cousins were spread all over the region with some going as far as Kalos to pursue careers while some stayed close to Kanto where his mother's family originated.
He wondered if any of them were near Jotho. He wasn't sure that he wanted them to be.
Make no mistake, Marcus loved his family. He had spent every summer break and Hannuka racing around with a gaggle of cousins and having mock battles and looking for the latke.
But they were a family of Rangers and Rangers knew how to dig, the last thing Marcus wanted was to have to deal with them finding out just what he was up to.
Still he couldn't help but wonder if he would run into one of them. Maybe they could exchange stories and he could see what they were up to. Last he heard his two youngest cousins had picked their starter though only one of them wanted to battle, with the other one wanting to do contests.
I wonder what Katie's up to, he thought thinking about his favorite cousin. She was only a couple of years older than him and was well into establishing herself as a trainer. She had been the only one he would talk to when his parents fought.
Maybe I could give her a call...once I figure out what I'm doing.

Thoughts of his cousins brought forth thoughts of his younger sibling and oh, Marcus definitely needed to call Lexie. At five years his senior Lexie was fourteen and no doubt out there with her Charmander causing all sorts of trouble. Like Marcus they were attending a Pokemon school though Marcus had money on them getting out of there sooner than he did.
Marcus really should call them. They had never gone long without talking to each other. He had all but helped raise them despite them being not that far apart in age.
Maybe I can call them when I get back to the room, the boy thought.

Marcus kept walking around looking for Pokemon for Toothless and Plato to train against. He wondered if he could ask Harvey about a research assingment since he was here. Maybe he could do something like he had done in science and technology class where he would scan every Pokemon in the area.
It would certainly dovetail well with him already looking for Pokemon for his team to fight against.
"Okay here we go" he said walking around the tall grass giving a cry and jumping back when a Pidgey flew right at him.
"aah! okay Plato out you go" he said "use tackle"
he couldn't help but give out an 'oof' when the tackle connected and the Pidgey fainted instantly.

Marcus looked around walking over to another patch of grass.
I hope I can get my hands on a rod soon, he thought as he parted the grass. Get some fishing done.
He didn't mind going in the grass, a lot of his time in school had been spent walking around in the grass documenting the types of Pokemon that were around for every season. But his favorite way to catch Pokemon without a doubt was fishing.
I should look into how to get a fishing liscence since it's a different region.
With a shake of his head, Marcus brought his thoughts back to the present. He needed to find Pokemon for Plato and Toothless to fight. Hopefully the next one would be one Toothless could take on.
We gotta teach you more moves bud, he thought looking over to the little snake Pokemon.

"Let's look in here" he told Toothless walking over to some of the grassy area. "Maybe we'll find something you can train with"
Toothless for his part nudged him and gave a happy croon un retracting his teeth and making sparks fly from them
"woah" Marcus said "I...didn't know you could do that"
He found somewhere to lean against and put Toothless in his hand with some protest from the Pokemon.
"Can you show me that again bud?" Marcus asked pointing his camera at the Klow.
Toothless seemed like he was considering crawling back in his shoulder but eventually conceded showing how it could transfer electricity through its fangs.
"Hey Harv check this out" Marcus said as he kept recording.
