"....?" He'd ask a bit more, pry perhaps, but maybe he should not. It did sound like a sensitive point to be treading all over. Could leave that till later, save that point for bringing up in a future conversation. Pressing too hard now might fish up something upsetting. Never mind, go back to getting her cream. Cream to soothe those rattled nerves? Sounds good!
"Actually, yes. I'd try to catch you if you'd leave. But...." He'd trip over his own feet while chasing her if she so much as made that quick dash out the door. Curse that stamina. Better not give her any ideas, even if she was not going to be acting on them! "Lots of cream or just a little bit?" Got to make sure that amount is just right too, pretty sure not everyone wanted their coffee to taste completely of cream or cat hair - sit down! No! If she was going to be relentless in the teasing, then he was going to anchor himself down even more. And still oblivious to whatever devious plans she was cooking up, of course. Not like he would expect that!

Her throat felt tight again, but still she tried to smile even if she found it hard to maintain eye contact due to the hurt in her eye that he'd surely see. She'd lost track of how many times she'd almost cried in a short length of time. What was with that? Though what triggered the feeling most recently was mostly relief. With any luck things would stay calm for at least a little longer. She knew it was stupid to wish for much more. Though part of her did anyway, as selfish and unrealistic as that was. She curled into the bedding a bit, making it possible for her to pull her legs close to comfort herself without any worry of being exposed. She huddled in a bit closer, likely looking pretty harmless between her occupied hands and bit of a pitiful smile.
Some strategic blinking and an unnecessary deep breath restrained any tears. The idea of being chased probably helped too, as a mischievous smirk and shine in her eye finally showed. "Oh~ That sounds like fun." Despite saying that, she cuddled herself further into the bedding. "Still not going anywhere. Reason already stated." Her voice was brimming with a quiet happiness. "Want to play tag instead?" That wouldn't be awkward at all, between someone that couldn't run and someone that was half-dressed at best. "Just a joke, just a joke! Aaa~ You'd both be mad at me, then."
"Well... lots. Lots, please. My... my throat hurts, a little. It's dry. Not sick." She shook her head to emphasize her point. No making him think she was sick right after such a test. Just a sensitive throat from too much almost-crying. Her tail wiggled a little impishly as she seemed stuck on the idea of dressing him up. "Hey. Have you worn anything like a kimono? Yukata?" What business a German man had wearing such things would be anyone's guess, but the same could be said for an Egyptian demon. She smiled a bit as she explained, lest he think he was being dragged off to somewhere yet again. "Not for any particular reason. Just to dress up. With me." She was tempted to bring up the fact that there wouldn't be any doll outfits or dresses involved on his part. But even thinking about it made her feel a little bad for him. Better to elaborate! "Oh~ You could be a butler to my maid! Or, we could both be cats~ And well, there's the nurse costume..." It was a little awkward matching up what was basically a fetish nurse with an actual doctor, but he hadn't seemed to mind before. "No costumes for our date, though. Just something nice." Back to going on about something she hadn't actually won yet. She was suddenly quiet for a moment, seemingly stuck on her own words. "I bet... I bet you look even more handsome, all dressed up." Said almost shyly, and followed by an attempt to hide her newly pink face in the bed.

Frowning slightly, he absentmindedly turned her coffee the same color as the cream. Ah, whoops. Well, she wanted a lot anyway, hopefully he got within her definition of 'a lot'. Quietly, he hands her cup over with both hands, careful not to spill a drop onto the sheets. "There you go. Drink up."
With that done, he takes his own cup and sits back down beside her. "If I end up tiring you out, I think she'll be even angrier at me for letting you do so." Well, Miyabi did seem like a strict person, he assumed that extended to enablers as well.
"Once, I think it was a yukata. A coworker wanted to bring us all out to a festival." Could not say that ended well, what with wearing it wrong the entire time thanks to a sabotaged instruction. "Oh, I thought you wanted to go to one." Strange though, dressing up and nowhere to go.
Ah. Um. He wanted to point out that clink time nearly gave everyone dark eye-circles, and he had been chided before for trying to hide it with liner. That was certainly not attractive at all, at least by his standards. Oh wait... Then again, he could say the same for a couple of other birds. He had better hold his tongue then. The idea of wearing ears (again!) did not rub as well as a suit, so... "Formal wear sounds nice." Hah, of course he'd choose formal! Easy to pull off, more than enough people he could ask for help from, and easily overdone to the point of foppishness! Oh wait, that was a bad thing. Um.
"And work wear is not going to look nice beside someone else in costume." Certainly not if it entailed going around in a prison jumpsuit, for sure. "People might get the wrong idea." Maybe not so much, since it was not the blue-white striped kind most normally wear, but not appropriate all the same.

Well, the fact that she received cream with some coffee in it was enough to make her laugh a little at least. "Heh. Thank you~" She took the cup with both hands, mind slipping into an entirely too fond comparison. It was just what he did, wasn't it? Filled her life with too much sweetness without even really trying. Such a sappy thought!
"Oh~ I wonder who she'd be more angry at." It was a curious thought. With a fairly obvious answer. "You. Definitely you." She said that with far too much ease in her words. "Well, she entrusted me to you before she left, didn't she?" Didn't mean that she should be grinning over a guarantee of being in less trouble than him, though.
So he had! "Ah, I'd like to see that~" What he said next kept her from sinking into that thought too deeply. "I'd gladly take you! Just..." She couldn't help but feel a little discouraged. "I suppose I figured that you might be tired of being dragged around in the summer weather, heh." She'd definitely kept him at the beach for an unreasonably long amount of time. One of those moments where she was so happy that she'd just never wanted it to end, really. Her mind had started to favor the idea of never coming back and just staying at the beach forever, as silly and illogical as that was. "Or maybe, that you'd get tired of me asking you to everything..." She definitely looked to be feeling insecure about that. But it wasn't as if that would necessarily stop her. Just gave her pause, at times. "And you'd have to deal with me attempting to attach myself to your arm the entire time~" Maybe he'd eventually get used to that. It was typical girl stuff, wasn't it? Hanging on a guy's arm, dragging him here or there. For some girls that was probably the main attraction of such functions to begin with. "And... well. I usually end up having to go to those sort of things by myself anyway..." Her head ended up hanging a bit, even if it was in a comical fashion. The worst yet of all her reasons. She was really starting to come across as a loser wasn't she? Though she sprung back to life soon afterwards, feeling it necessary to make a few points clear. "But there's no one else I'd want to ask other than you! Really!" An obvious point, but one that she didn't want her girly insecurities to end up obscuring. "And if you need a date for any occasion you shouldn't hesitate to ask me! You shouldn't." She didn't really want to think about the alternatives to such a situation. Couldn't help but sadly mumble a bit about it, though. "Hnn~ I'd be sad if you asked someone else, or accepted someone else's invitation." She tried to laugh it off, but didn't look any happier about it. "Heh... s-sorry." Not like she had the right to tell him what to do. But it wasn't as if that fact made her feel any better about further possibilities of interference either.
Ah, she just kept depressing herself. So moody! At least she wasn't on the verge of crying this time. She took a long sip of her drink and tried to think about other things. "Oh~" His figure was just right for the crisp lines of a suit. That was a nice thing to think about. "Though keeping things simple might better suited for a date. Even if you do still look great overdressed." She couldn't help but smile to herself. That was a nice memory. Even if she'd more demanded that he be her date than asked really. It'd still worked, hadn't it?
"Haa~ I suppose you're right, hnn?" Ever the responsible one. Well, someone had to be. "So you're saying I should save the nurse costume for when we're in private then?" No, probably not that at all. "Or at least, when you're not dressed in a way to give me credence. Not that anyone would ever actually mistake me for a medical nurse~" Except him apparently. Fetish nurses had their place, but it wasn't next to doctors that had any bit of credibility. Her mind was quick to drift from that subject. "So, if not that... what would you prefer in private? You like soft ears and tails, obviously, but what else?" That was so not a question that was going to be answered.

Which meant that he would get the brunt of any impending lectures. No thank you! "Stay in bed, alright?" he asked with a sigh. "I doubt either of us would want to endure a tongue-lashing from her, no matter how much it is supposed to do us good." Same went for the patients the nurses had to chase around, so he knew that frustration well.
"... I take it that summer nights are not as bad as summer days?" There was the nice lights to see, too, and the night had its own selection of events. And of course, for the doctor who was so averse to heat, the cool air was a definite plus. "Perhaps not." Not a stranger to his coworkers' efforts to make him more sociable too, apparently. "It's nearly... Expected. Though I would not be able to operate as efficiently with someone tagging along on my arm all the time." Clinical and job-focused as always, and not a single drop of courage to ask anyone out or accept an invitation without force. At least, no one without an age gap that could be considered as a generation. "I'll keep that in mind, then." Did it also apply if it was a drag-out from his coworkers or someone that Amarante did not have to worry about for competition? "Though, since I hardly go anywhere, that should not be a problem."
That is, unless she decided to visit him at work. Then maybe it would be a problem. Not just the teasing this time, but... Well, he had to get permission. There would be more than one person not very happy if Amarante decided to run around the place willy-nilly.
Oh, but that... Well, she enjoyed it. No need to tell her how impromptu that outfit was. Perhaps he could just get used to wearing frills with his formal? No wait, someone else already was working with that style. Never mind that.
"Really." Sarcasm, but he was pretty sure his reputation as an alleged 'vampire' was reinforced by that little outing. White skin, red eyes and Victorian-style frills, complete with hoots of laughter from both the house occupants and the internal audience. "Perhaps I should wear that less often, then." Better look presentable than admitting he was trying too hard.
"They take anyone wearing a hat with a cross on it as a nurse. That's what people tend to think." She would stand out wearing that in the hospital, obviously, but of course people had their impressions of nurses all the same. "... Um." He clamped down hard on his words then. Not that he was scared that she was laying a trap for him (well, she probably is, given her teasing so far) but it would just be odd. He had not really gave that much thought, since most of the time he was either solitary or did not take notice.

Pouting had commenced summarily. "But I only got out of bed once! Mrr~" Back to bickering. "Besides, we're older than she is! ...Aren't we?" She leaned in a bit, bright-eyed and very interested in what answers he could give her. "How old are you? Birthday?" That last part was something she hadn't thought of asking before that was definitely interesting to her. Hopefully he didn't mind her asking. Men tended to be less sensitive about that issue, anyway. Unlike some people. "My age is unimportant, so~" Yep, still sensitive about it. The aging process had long since halted for her and that was the important part wasn't it? "My birthday is December 10th!" She'd tracked and converted it into the gregorian calendar at some point, apparently. Well, of course she had. Birthdays were important! There was cake involved!
"Oh, that depends on what your definition of 'bad' is." Someone who'd been raised between the Sahara and the netherworld probably wasn't the best reference for such a subject. "It's all the same to me~ Though it's fun to dress the part." Of course it was. The shift between different weather-based clothing styles was just another form of dress-up to someone unconcerned by temperature changes. And... what? An odd statement, to be sure. She looked quite unimpressed, though in her usual fashion of hilariously so. "Eeh~ Are you assuming I'm so clingy as to follow you to work and inappropriately dote on you there? Is that it~?" He'd already accused her of being a stalker more than once, now this? What reputation she'd had had fallen so far so quickly due to her fondness for him. Being teased by people she didn't even know, really. So much strangeness! "You'd be fortunate to have someone as cultured as myself visiting you at work, bringing you lunch or whatever affections a doctor's wife would do, tch~" She was acting quite dismissive and petulant by saying so, though also blushy all the while. Ever the tsundere. With an amused sigh she moved along to the real issue at hand. "Though it does seem like I've failed you, in my duty as--" What to call it? The lack of a definable relationship was a bit of a nuisance, but not something she considered especially hurtful. But no way was she painting herself into the corner of the title of 'friend,' nope. How awkward and bulky was the title of 'potential love interest' though? Ah, words were too difficult when it came to the whole of the matter. Feelings were the important part, as far as she was concerned. "Someone who cares about you very much." She smiled at him quite peacefully. "I'll do better next time. And the time after that, and the time after that! Even if you do complain~ Tch. A lesser person would have their feelings hurt, you know? It takes a lot of courage to do such a thing~" Complaining about his complaining probably wasn't the best way to make her point. But it sounded like he was going to be invited to anything and everything if she could help it, provided that she could find him.
And well, she'd expected her pity party to go unnoticed, so to have it acknowledged... hmm. She probably should've been gracious, apologizing further and refusing such a token. But, a gracious person wouldn't have said such a thing to begin with. And it was an issue she'd been worn too thin on long before he was ever in the picture. A small consideration was a lot for someone that had never been given such consideration previously. "You have..." Again she was holding back quite a bit, though her words were obviously choked with emotion. "You have no idea how much I appreciate that." It was increasingly more difficult to restrain any sort of emotional outburst. Not without considerable reason, however, with trauma points both recent and longstanding being touched upon even if not intentionally.
He was so cute when he was being sulky. She couldn't help but be cheered up a bit just by that. "Ah~ But you look good in everything and anything, you know?" His mind would probably go straight to the dresses, even if that wasn't her intention. "Anyone that says otherwise is surely just jealous." Another point that could easily involve those dresses. Many girls had said as much. Sigh. Well, she had tried and really had meant well, anyway.
His sudden quiet was curious to her. "Oh~ Either you have no idea... or you very much have an idea." Her clever smile was cut through by a sudden realization. "You know, thinking about it... I actually have no preference regarding that sort of thing, myself? Just as well, I suppose. Since you look good in everything, and all. Lucky me~" She definitely looked to be pleased and amused over the matter. "Just have preferences in what I like to wear. I mean~" She hesitated a little in telling him. "Someone with one eye never had a chance to look normal from the start, right?" She approached the subject with her usual lighthearted nature, though it was clear that there was some pain behind those words. "They're going to stare anyway, so~ Might as well make the most of it." She nodded, satisfied with her own answer. "So dressing up is fun, you see? Not for the purpose of tantalizing others, but for my own enjoyment." The bright smile suddenly became sly. "I'd be satisfied with the matter of tantalizing you, however." Of course she had to say that.

"Twenty-six, last I remember." Trying to remember his birthday on the other hand, that was a pain. When was the last time he celebrated it? "..... I don't recall that. It's probably written down somewhere on one of the records, I'll need to go check." If it even is there. Birthday-wise he had taken to ignoring it completely for the past few years. If he told Amarante that, she might just launch one of those house-sized cakes she talked about earlier on him, and that would probably take ages to finish, if not days to climb instead. December 10th.... Noted and remembered. Now to plan.
No poison cakes, nope. She would do worse than turn him into bird feed.
"... It's not for me I'm complaining for. Most people aren't allowed near that area, so it might be a problem if they stop you at the door." Depending on the time, she might run into someone who'd apprehend her for simply being near, allow her free roam of the place, or end up blocking the door with idle chatter about ancient lore. It was a one-in-three chance with a rare case of nobody at all, if she made it that far. "If you want to pop by, however, I can inform the warden about it. No guarantees he will let you pass immediately, however." At least he could count on at least two people not to immediately broadcast to the whole staff that he had a visitor. "But um, treat him nice. He can be stiff, but he's a good person." The pitiful warden had to put up with a whole lot of nasty things, after all. Adding one more potentially rowdy character to the regulars would be something he might not be prepared for.
And of course her assumption was right on the dot again. Yeah, sure, let the crowd of people who ransacked his closet attest to the sheer amount of frills and lace he had in there, and the number never seemed to diminish no matter how many emergency bandages were required. "Jealous of a trap. Right. The only good thing about it is that people are shocked enough to drop their weapons or leave me an opening." All he had to do was speak, thank goodness his voice did not follow his appearance. Still not funny. Quick, redirect the topic away from the dresses! She was already gaining ground with her teasing the longer the topic was in play! No more talking about those, he was going to implode with embarrassment!
"I thought eye patches were some kind of indication of power?" Ah, naive little doctor, still not well-read enough. "That is... We have patients requesting for eye bandages for things like bruises or shallow cuts around the affected area, and some people wear it that way for some reason?" The roommate did that too, complete with the missing limbs, like some warrior of the old war or something. Bad for depth perception though, could do no baseball batting with one eye covered.

She definitely felt some disappointment from such an answer, but decided to err on the side of caution and sensitivity. "Well~ Should you find it, I'd love to know. All right?" She was glad that he existed, so it was natural for her to want to know. Saying so just seemed insensitive in regards to what little she knew of his circumstances though.
"Eeh~ First to be assumed to be inappropriately clingy, now I'm being assumed to be rude at your place of work?" Well, she wasn't being assumed to be corrupting or seducing anyone, so there was that. "I'll have you know that I can be perfectly demure and delightful~" She cleared her throat, voice returning as much more subdued and delicate than previously. "'Excuse me~ If it's not too much trouble can you please direct me to the ward of Dr. Muller? It's just, I made this just for him and~' so forth. I'm underestimated due to my diminutive size and of course I'm more charming than just a human to start with." At least being small was useful sometimes. "It's not an advantage that I tend to abuse. But I can generally use it to get myself out of trouble with relative ease." Lest he end up thinking that she would start showing up and disrupting his work on a regular basis due to having a good chance of charming herself inside. "Incidentally, what sort of things do you like to eat?" Her sentimental inclinations were rather enjoying the idea she'd brought up in passing.
Still being sulky and cute. She'd humor him, though, as she hadn't intended to upset. "Haa~ I'm one of the few that doesn't ridicule you for that, you know~ And while it doesn't bother me, it bothers you. So it seems futile to be encouraging about it when it isn't something you enjoy to begin with, you know?" How anyone thought they were being helpful by remarking how pretty he was and how well it suited him, she didn't know.
"Heh, more similar to a flashing sign. One that says, 'attack on that side!'" If she could scar, the scars on her right side would be numerous indeed. "Some people use bandages to just hide things they don't want to see or want others to see, right? So... yeah." For the most part her usage was protective, but that reasoning wasn't untrue either. She eyed him nervously. "You've seen it, so..." She couldn't help but ask. "Does it bother you? Such a facial deformity..."

"If I get access to them again, then it's a yes." Of course he was not going to miss out on nearly a decade's worth of cakes if he could help it! And of course it also meant baking for himself....
"J-Just assuming! And it's not rude, it's just..." Like he could tell her just where exactly that 'ward' is! And the amount of people that were let into that area was nearly next to none. "... And they would not know who you were referring to if you did go in and ask like that." Not the warden though. He was nice enough to know. Everyone else had their own nickname or identification for him, it seemed. Part and parcel of that job's circumstances.
"... They do it anyway. Amusement." It did lead to a couple of funnies in the workplace, of course, as well as double-timing as a mute nurse on one occasion (by design of a particular bored diagnostician). "It's better than eating strange food from the pantry or getting lost in one of the more secluded mazes that's in there. Oh, and speaking of which, do keep to the main corridors! Things happen in the aisles that branch off." More unexplained things, but it's a blessing that it had not lead to any fatalities, and reintegration was not as difficult as it had looked like a lot earlier on.
"Not at all." Well, he could not say that he had seen worse, since he was neither the paramedic nor the dermatologist, and it might have been too harsh a slap to her.

"Oh, I hope so!" She was clearly excited by the idea, tail swishing to show just that. Though she was looking rather perplexed soon afterwards. "Ah, but I'll have no idea what to get you then. Hnn~" Well, unless he found out soon and it was soon after that she'd surely have time to think about it.
"Just what?" Maybe he wouldn't answer, but the repetition of his words and curious head tilt were there anyway. "Oh, what name are you known by there?" With that she'd possibly opened a can of worms, or possibly something else. Not like she knew any better, either way.
"But eating strange foods and getting lost in mazes sounds a lot more fun than just wearing dresses!" She almost sounded a little disappointed. He really should have known better than to mention such things to someone so much like a cat. "Just as well. I'd only be there to visit you, as fun as the rest sounds." Luckily, her devotion somehow outweighed her curiosity and mischievous nature. "Which you sound pretty torn by, just to mention. You both do and don't want me to visit~" She was quite amused by that observation, whether it was correct or not. "It's okay, if there's some reason I can't. I'd do my best to behave though, no silly clothes or odd appendages~" There was a time and place to tempt him with soft and fuzzy things. Mostly in private. Maybe dates? But not at work. "I could even bring you something nice to eat, even if you're ignoring my request as for what~" Looked like it was her turn to nag, err, coax.
"I'm glad." Just a pointless little bit of assurance that was nice to hear, really. None of the usuals for her, it seemed. No 'do you think I'm pretty' or 'don't you like me' traps for him. Just 'is my eye thing gross.' He was getting off easy. Though there were further complications to the situation. "That girl... probably assumes a lot of things, since you've seen it." Well, her reaction to figuring it out had said as much. Not to mention the casually-discussed subjects that followed. Another facepalm seemed to be an appropriate reaction to it all. "It's none of their business! Hmph~" Back to sullenly sipping at her coffee she went.

"..." Well, not going to enlighten her either. But really, he would not have expected her to get anything anyway. Or maybe she'd roll it together with the food question. It was okay either way, something practical or edible. Not like he would mind. Much. Or snuggly.
Hmm, good question. How did his coworkers look for him? Probably the most obvious way, but then again they knew. A visitor outside of the staff roster was not new, but not one that was willing to drop by every so often. "Ask the nurse at the counter for 'CR-S01'. She'll take you to that room." Please let her assume it was the room number! An identification number tacked on someone's head was a lot harder to explain than when it was tacked to a door.
There was that reason that she could not, which was the most obvious. High security and all that. But then, it was not often that anyone dared to visit that was not the staff. Ah, restrictions, sweet limitations! How would he juggle? "It's fine. Food's provided, mostly. And the pantry always has sugar." Only because everyone else on staff who needed it were fed up with his excess usage. And if she brought things like water in there, it was going to freeze within a matter of minutes thanks to the temperature. Best not to, then. Even if he was wanting some hot tomato soup after a tired day... "Maybe you can guess, then. It probably should not take long, since you're just as quick with your mind as your ears." To keep track of what he said, then, in case any extra clues hid themselves in his words.
"Would you want to correct her assumptions, then? If they are detrimental, perhaps it would be better to bring them up." Yet he could not do so himself, being not bold enough. Ah, Amarante knew her better, maybe she would not get that bad a scolding... Or maybe she would get worse. Which had a higher probability of happening? Oh well...

Of course, being quiet often left him open to receiving more of her strange thoughts and ideas. "I suppose there's something as simple and tawdry as me jumping out of a cake." For whatever reason she didn't seem very interested in such an idea. "But that's a total waste of cake, if you ask me~" Of course that was it. Too much effort put into structuring a low quality cake for such a purpose. That would never do! "If you wanted to have me and cake at the same time we could just do that." She shrugged, as if annoyed that others didn't come to that same conclusion about people cakes. Perhaps it was a little unnerving how she was able to talk about things like that entirely too casually, with incredible ease in her words.
"Hnn~ What kind of room number is that?" Spoken as if she spent a lot of time around hospitals. Or was simply curious, as usual. "I'd think you'd meet me in some neutral sort of room rather than the one you worked in." She had a point there. "Unless you work in some sort of neutral room?" At the very least she knew not to start getting some idea that he was some sort of cafeteria lunchlady. He'd fixed her up too many times to be anything other than a doctorly type.
She drank a little more deeply, musing over his usual reactions. "Aaa~ You're always like that. Shrugging things off, but not exactly refusing things either. Do you not want to be a bother? Or do you not want to be responsible for someone else's feelings, I wonder." More of the usual rambling in an attempt to try to figure him out. She couldn't blame him, really. There were a lot of psychotic people out there that would love to inappropriately push their weird feelings all over someone like him. Amarante was chatty and at times bawdy but otherwise pretty harmless to the likes of him. Though she understood that it was futile to struggle to make herself any more liked or anything like that. Sort of. Trying to impress him was different, wasn't it? Especially when it was unlikely to succeed.
His words suddenly sounded outright cryptic to her, as she reacted with a comical frown. "Am I to be guessing what I should be bringing you? Is that it?" Well, it was a change of pace. One that she of course had to completely overthink and misinterpret. "Is this some sort of test to prove that I am worthy of your affections, or something? I need hints!" Totally wrong as usual. But an entertaining thought at least. The Erhard route was so difficult, and there was no walkthrough! Ah well. She didn't want to play any of the others.
"I never said they were incorrect assumptions." She couldn't help being clever again. "Just that it's none of her business." Simply put. Because it wasn't! And with all she was about to detail maybe he'd agree with her decision to leave it at just that. "Between the tests and seeing my face, she surely assumes that I'm in love with you. And that's not wrong. But I haven't told her anything." Really, to her it seemed futile to do even that. "I'm sure I'd just get chided! 'Why are you telling me now?' 'I already knew that.' 'That much was obvious.' And so on~" Miyabi was a smart girl but not always the most sympathetic creature. "Of course she likely assumes there's more to it than that, as showing my face is probably the highest grade of intimacy with me. Everything else is pretty impersonal by comparison." She was able to maintain her composure enough for that statement, but definitely not for what followed. "I'd... I'd have wanted to show you, even if you hadn't seen it by accident." It was enough to make her blush, apparently. Maybe he didn't get how important that was, and maybe it didn't matter. Still. "To be honest, correcting her will simply give her free reign to ask questions. Would you really want to be questioned about some of the ideas she might have about us? Tell her one thing... she will be definitely be drilling you with questions about why or why not until you give her a satisfactory answer." Miyabi was usually satisfied to give and receive subtleties. She could probably gracefully handle being corrected, but things became very serious very quickly if the subject was Amarante. "Because she would, she'd be asking you about it and not me. And no room for silence, with that one." She could only hope that her point had been made clear. It simply wasn't worth going against that iron-willed child.

"And a huge mess to clean up, no less." Here he was worried about the mess when people were worried about cake. Of course he would think that way. "What, bake you into one? Wouldn't that require a large enough oven as well as heatproof clothing?" Ever the practical mind, hardly a thought left for imagination. Could he not see it was a joke? .... Oh wait, he was taking her seriously? That flat questioning tone certainly did sound like it!
"... A very cold one." Worse still if she happened to come in when he was in the OT or on a round. "If it bothers you, then please do bring a jacket. It would not do well at all if you come to visit only to end up in the wards too." Spoken as if it was a joke, but the noodle incidents behind that warning were stranger, if not more humorous, than what he implied.
Well, he had been a burden to others long enough. Even if she trailed his true reason out loud, probably without realizing, he was not going to make that known any time soon. What use was telling that to anyone, anyway? It would only burden them more, therefore. "Really? Hmm... I wonder," he mused, taking another mouthful of coffee to fill the silence that followed.
"No, but it's more fun that me just outright giving you the answers." He wagged a finger at her childishly like a petulant teacher. Not a single hint or a clue still? But already she did manage to pick up that sweets and caffeine were definitely on the list, so the rest should be easy game for her, right?
"N-Not at all.... " That came more of a shock and a scare than a lighthearted warning! Oh goodness, if Miyabi was that fearsome, then he had better step on his own feet twice around her! Since Amarante's words gave off the sinking feeling that she could press for answers a lot harder than the redhead did... Why, he was trembling slightly already! Ah, calm down, maybe it is just exaggeration, maybe he would be saved both an impromptu interrogation and a tongue-whipping... If he kept quiet. Right. "But only at your own leisure, and only if you were comfortable enough at that time. Or maybe there was another reason it was done that way, who knows." Oh, that was a nostalgic, disillusioned thought. He knew better than to say that, but it was strange to him to say otherwise. "Not that I believe in that anymore. Or to put it in the tin can's words, 'someone's hands are at work'?" Itchy hands and snickering smiles, no doubt!

She was amused by the candid thoughts he'd offered on the matter. "I think most of them don't use actual cake for that very reason." Which also seemed like a waste. "A perfectly good excuse to make a cake mess and most people pass that up~" She almost looked exasperated as she shrugged. "Being trapped in an oven for hours doesn't sound like fun. I don't think that's how they make those anyway." One thought such a thing involved baking people into the cakes and the other didn't think that was a big deal. A compatible level of morbidness it seemed. But, that wasn't the part her mind got caught on. "You almost sound interested. Catgirl in a cake, is it?" There was a devious smile that followed. "Would we be throwing you a party, or would it be just the two of us?" Her mind was already awhirl with many an idea involving the two of them and cake.
"Oh, it's cold? I can play that part." Of course she thought about it that way. She could dress as she liked, but dressing lightly in a frigid place generally garnered stares. "Would you take care of me if I ended up stuck there?" Naturally that was her first thought, but she was very quick in asserting she had no such intention. "It's but a joke. That wouldn't happen." A dismissive gesture that probably also looked to be pretty nervous emphasized that point. Her head fell into a tilt as she considered another issue. "Should I be avoiding any exposed skin regardless?" Offering to cover herself up without being asked? She was definitely taking the situation seriously.
An emotionless face made it easy for him to avoid his emotions being read whenever liked. No matter how closely she looked there was nothing to pick up on. And that was his choice. Part of her felt remiss in being unable to help, but there was only so much she could do. "I know that I said it before, and just saying so doesn't make it easier to do so, but..." Couldn't hurt to offer again, could it? She proceeded with careful words and a kind voice. "You can always talk to me about whatever you want, whenever you want. Okay?" No demanding tone or insistence. Just a bit of encouragement.
Being sulky again, and now having fun torturing her with guessing games. Tightening her hands on her coffee was an easy way to keep them to herself even in the midst of his increasing attractiveness. "But, hints!" Seemed that all of her brain power had gone into behaving. With a bit of a sheepish laugh she tried again. "Is it something you really like? Something you have often? You haven't said anything~"
"Heh. I thought as much." He'd done well with Miyabi so far. But he still had to be aware about getting too comfortable too soon with that child. That placid surface disguised a fierce sense of protectiveness. While unlikely to interfere, the possibility of Miyabi 'correcting' something she found fault in was still very much there. The consequences of being an important person! With any luck her two important people would get along just fine. His considerate words had her a little more inclined to think so. "Saying that just makes me more glad that you've seen, you know?" She certainly was uncertain at first. It had been a little soon. But the sweetness present in her voice indicated that she was ultimately pleased that it had happened. Though she still had to pout some. She'd had a rough time of it after all. "The circumstances surely could've been better." She eyed him over a bit, pout eventually curling into a smile. "Still worth it."

"... How did this turn into planning a birthday party so quickly?" Confused, but following those jumps of logic, and she was still hung up on the ears. He was exasperated at her constant stream of ridiculous ideas, but also resigned to the incoming pokes and prods at the ears. Oh well, just another thing to put up with, he supposed.
Ah, how to answer that question without mistakenly implying that she should wear less? Say it one way, she might think it was okay to wear anything in there, but say it the other way and someone would really start thinking he was harboring pathogens in that room! Oh wait...
"Try not to, it's easy to get frostbite in there especially if you stay long." True to most of the visitors to that room, yet untrue to the room's occupant. Best answer he could put forth, then.
He'd remember that, but not make anything of it. He was perfectly fine with handling his own problems. And also perfectly fine with deluding himself into believing so. Oh well, it takes time to learn, and perhaps all those mistakes were not enough. "Duly noted, for future reference." Like he'll ever dare to take that offer.
Okay, maybe just a little push? "You already know I cook, don't you? Think about that a little bit." And as an added measure, he looked at the lid with the cookies on it. That might help with her guessing... Or she might eat the clue instead?
"Can't help that, let's just work with that." Just like nearly about everything that was flung at him that was so much out of the ordinary. "It could have happened worse, after all."
