"Yeah I am not the most coordinated myself.." Said, of course, as he stubbed and stumped himself into every single thing laying in their way. The smell rose up his nose making the hunter cough in a disgusting way. "Ugh.. this is disgusting."

He didn't even grab anything yet and he already didn't like the mood of this mission. His stomach was tight, expecting something awful to happen at any second. Perhaps it was the last mission's affect on him or perhaps it was just his own apprehension.

He followed Tedan to the grey blob he'd chosen and he reached down to grab on end. Firstly.. it was kind of squishy. It made grasping it pretty difficult and he jostled it around until he realized that the squishy grey thing that smelled ungodly had ankles.

He was holding ankles.

"Oh god.." He felt himself retch but he held it back, instead his body convulsed in the action. "C'mon.. hurry up lets.. huuurrkkk.." he retched again, once again holding his sick back. "Let's get this done."

Thankfully they were both strapping young men and as long as they didn't jostle too much, the slippery disgusting corpse stayed strongly in their grasp.

"This is.. ********.. ugh..." He'd like his partner's reception of his batman joke and wished the mission wasn't so nasty. Maybe they could have bonded!

Wrinkling her nose at the smell, she released her hold on whatever limb she had in her grasp before moving onto another. "To be honest, I hope the next mission--if we get another--is not as..uh..morbid as this one." When Caelius mentioned a fifty percent survival rate, she now questioned if he was referring to them all vomiting to their deaths..or was referring to any survivors they might discover in this gory mess.

Looking to Candace as she dropped to her knees; she would have gone over and patted the woman on the shoulder or something..but her hands were kind of..messy at the moment.

I'm good! I'm ******** that is nasty.

"No arguments there." She answered, making a face when she took in another whiff of the foul odor. "Do you suppose we'll actually find and survivors here?" It was a nice thought that they could still bring some people back alive--but if anything..it seemed unlikely. Then again, they wouldn't be out here if Deus ex Machina didn't think they would find anything.

:Gotta say..I don't envy you right now.:

That makes two of us.

"No worries, no worries, info's always good," Before tried to keep himself distracted from the stench and the fact that they were up to their elbows in bodies. Human bodies. Bodies that may very well and most likely have been former Hunters. Full fledged Hunters even. What had happened here? How long had these bodies been here?

"On three, you ready? One, two, thr-" as he bent down to lift the body, he felt the flesh give, heard the mass squelch, and Before was suddenly seeing flashbacks to chaos, to violence, to attacking and hitting and striking and- Gloved hands tightened around the parts he had intended to carry. "Oh God, oh God, oh God, oh God," he whimpered softly, "I-it's falling apart!" he exclaimed as indeed, the body he and Tori were meant to carry turned into a pile of lumpy flesh.

((attempt failed, I am so sorry that Tori is stuck with Before ;; ))

"Well that is good as you just might get more of it," she replied as she was still nervous but was getting over making a bad impression of herself to Before as she was curious to get to know her partner even if she didn't know what to say, maybe that would be something she would get over with time and she did hope. Tori tried to keep her thought of no wanting to know what had happened here at all.

"Yep," she replied as she also bent down to pick up her part of the body as she heard the body squelch and was so glad that she hadn't eaten that morning as this was just really disgusting. "It alright, Before. It looks that it has been here a while." she replied in what she hoped a soothing voice as she had to wonder why they had to do this but then someone had to and they just got the short end of the stick.

Tori just sighed and didn't have any thing to say over that comment Aklin made.

"Lets try again, alright?" she said hoping that Before would be ok. "We can do it and I can say random facts to see if that helps," Tori said as she moved to a different body and hoped that this one was in better shape than there last one and motioned to Before to hopefully help her.

Shut up!

((Its alright, I think that Before will be good for her in the long run.))

BOTH ODD = YAY BODY!

She was secretly a little impressed; she thought that most of the new recruits would be complaining or completely grossed out - but then again, that was what the 'selection' process was all about. Sure, some of the 'chosen ones' seemed like a big mistake to her, but who was she to decide? If she could, then Dean would probably-

"Alright," She muttered and proceeded to pull the body off the ground by holding onto the ankles; the fact that the body felt gross in her bare hands was forgotten as she led the newer trainee along, carrying the body as she carefully stepped through the sea of bodies, ignoring any squishes or cracks she heard.

"So, how're you finding this line of work so far?" She asked conversationally, like body retrieval was the most normal, commonplace thing ever.

Before was not going to freak out. He was NOT going to freak out. Not not not not not not not. And you know why? Because he was already freaking out. Except he was keeping it aaaaaaall inside. Bottling it up, yo! He was saving it in a mason jar inside him and he'll be letting it aaaaaall out when he gets to the privacy of his room. Hopefully he'll remember to lock the door that time.

"Yes, please," he croaked to Tori as they once again tried to lift another body. "Something happy, maybe? With kittens and puppies?"

Oh silly Before, why don't you ask her about herself? Ghouls love to talk about themselves. I know I certainly enjoyed telling you who I like and dislike amongst your fellow Hunters~ Vanna teased.

Only Before was emotionally shutting himself down. He may have gotten some help from Clarice but it hadn't been nearly enough for him to deal with the sight of all these dead bodies. And the thoughts that came with it. He didn't respond to his partner's good-natured ribbing at all.

Got a job. Focus on that. Get it done. Get it done right and fast. He repeated. Unfortunately, it seemed the body they tried to pick up was already halved.

Leon followed behind the lumbering mass of red and orange that he sincerely hoped was Harrison ahead as he trudged his way thought the pileup of whatever carcasses that lay around them. he squelching sounds was not as disturbing as the thick substance that stuck to his boots after said sounds. Taking solid steps soon seemed like a bad thing as the boxer grimaced under his mask that didn't do much to block out the stench.

Instead of stomping around and waiting to trip over and onto whatever corpse lay in front of him, Leon took the chance to instead sweep his legs just over the ground as he stepped, like wax on wax off and it helped sweep away some obstructions that threatened to take him down with them.

Soon after the blob of colors known as Harrison stopped and began to pull up one of the other colored anomalies that registered on the sensor and followed suit, feeling around for something that had fabric still on. "You know, that is an excellent question that they never bothered to answer." That couldn't bode well.

"Best thing to do is keep your eyes open for anything that's moving fast and not grey and lets get this thing back to the encampment, before it decided to move and freak us out." he said in reply with the headset, already feeling more cautious about the mission and what he didn't want to end up like. Being carried back to the portal in a matching black bag.

It was enough to get the boxer in gear and began to lift the dead weight back over his head . "Ready, on this end."

Tori was very glad that there masks didn't let her see how the bodies truly looked like. If she could she might have been more sick that she already felt and thoughts she didn't want come back.

"Alright I can do that," Tori replied as she tried to come up with some facts that Before wanted. "Kittens think in 3D: they love to climb high points and it is also said that classical music is very soothing to kittens. Also puppies love to lick bacon grease and dalmatians puppies are born white and get there spots as they age." She said and hope that this was help Before at least a little.

Aklin murred.

Tori was not going to say anything to that at least it was keeping Aklin entertained for the time being. See that this body wasn't any good to carry.

"Well do you want to try one more time, Before?" She asked as she had moved over to another body and did hope that this one would stay in one piece. "If this does the same things the last ones did, we can call it good as we can say we at least tried," She said and really hoped that this body would hold and she wasn't going to force him to do more after this as she could hear in his voice he was having more of a hard time than she was.

Before was listening to Tori's random bits of information. It was a good distraction as it was about pleasant things and oddly enough helped him focus on the task at hand without completely withdrawing into himself. While his usual hyper cheerfulness had plummeted a bit... okay a ******** lot, he still somehow managed to crack a small smile. "3D, huh? Is that why they get into everything?" What? Before had a soft spot for nearly everything and everyone. Kittens were, obvs, no exception.

"Third time's the charm," he nodded at the young woman's suggestion. This time, he linked his arms underneath a corpse's legs and waited for Tori to get a good grip on her end before attempting to hoist it up.

((success on the third try))

It was good to at least a little smile come from her partner as she was just going to continue with the facts about Kittens. "Yep and I would think so and maybe somethings just smell interesting that they have to find it or something to that effect. Also different breeds of kittens have different number of bones in there body, " She had never had a Kitten herself but she had seen and played with them when she had been younger. Even her telling the facts to Before was also keeping her focused on the right now and not those dark thoughts.

"It would seam so," she replied and was glad too as then they could get out of all these bodies. Seeing that Before had gotten a good grip on his part of the body and she also got a good grip under the bodies underarms as she wasn't going to use the arms as they might fall off while carrying and she didn't want that to happen one bit. "Alright, I'm ready and lets get out of here," Tori said as she continued to tell random facts about Kittens to Before as they walked.

Up and out of the dank and dark they went, Before sounding impressed with each bit of information he learned. "You must have read a lot growing up, huh? Or is it like, photographic memory or something like that?" Try to keep things light, Before, push back the blood and ichor and pain and commands. Ignore the fact you're carrying someone who died of... ********. And that there might be some FEAR residues lurking within.

Emerging into the sweltering, scorching desert heat, Before gestured they lower the body down gently. "Dropping bad."

Their superior’s swift exit prompted the woman to stand and to leave the room amongst the others, a slight lift in her cheeks hinting to a subtle grin on her lips.

She. Looked. Excited.

The worry in Blythe's tone was brushed off.

What?

Can’t help it.

Please.> Blythe begged in a whisper before silencing all together. Minnie huffed before obliging.

The tent out on the field and the transporter within it were appraised quickly with a curious brow lift before being advanced, Minerva prancing lightly out of the darkness and into the spiraling winds and climbing sand dunes. She, like many of the others, tried her very best to avoid looking through the tent’s flap; those long black bags not the most welcomed sight, however unfortunately quite recognizable. She grimaced, listening to the voice that echoed in her head as concern surfaced within the death trainee. Luckily, the moon huntress just outside of the tent was the one speaking, Minerva’s tiny frame squeezing through the crowd to reach the front--if only to hear the woman more clearly.

At first she didn’t even realize her partner's presence, completely submersed in her own thoughts. In fact she had forgotten, for but a moment, that they had been assigned partners to work with…But soon enough she was lifting her gaze reaching out for the offered mask and headset without a word, blinking a few times before staring at the girl just as blankly. A moment passed before she whispered, "Hello, Petra?" given no time to say anything more as their guide set off into the desert.

Their journey was staggering at best, feet fumbling to keep the rest of her erect, the mask doing nothing to stabilize her vision. Everything but those around her was a dark gray and difficult to differentiate. The rolling sand dunes blended in with the sky, their height lost in their lack of heat to be seen. She tried to remain as focused as possible, listening to the Moon huntress as she came over the headset clearly, taking in the scent that wafted their way in heavy blows, and finally becoming very still as the ground they walked upon became unfamiliar to her. She had reached down just as instructed, hands coiling around rubbery substances, but the hushed gagging that soon followed their guides hasty retreat baffled Minerva...The slush of liquid beneath her feet didn't seem to do her any better, a heave of her stomach forcing her hands to release whatever it was she held.

But the others...they were starting to realize something. And as she gave the tugging another go, the death trainee was beginning to understand...

"Oh my god..." She breathed as her hands slid carefully across a cheek, and nose--flinching as they tapped against open lids.

The calling was high pitched and wavering. Minerva tried not to let it get to her, resisting the urge to scream, using both of her hands to cradle the head...because it was a head, belonging to some human...that was what she was holding.

Where was her partner? She had strayed some from Petra's side and was now lingering in the sea of bodies, in the thick smog of gray, trying carefully to pull at the cloth wrapping this fallen individual.

"Petra?" Minerva said as calmly as she could, shuffling with her footing to gain some ground. "We need to get this one out, over here!" What the hell was this...?! First mission!? SERIOUSLY?!

He grunted as they started to pull the body up, heavier then what he expected but...then again it was floating in some odd liquid marsh, it was bound to be weighed down by water. It was more then dead weight, it was watered down dead weight. He chuckled, oh he was so creative.

He nodded at his weapons laughter. Could always count on Chama to hear his funny crazy internal musing. He stepped carefully with Ariane through the sea, walking slowly since the mask clearly dimmed his view of anything and laughed at her question.

"It would be odder for me to say that It's just dandy and I do it all the time but well, I've never had to pick up dead floating bodies." He chuckled again, "I suppose though, if we have to do it, we have to do it." He grimaced before perking up, he was with a pretty female, time to get his game on.

Chama sounded snippy in his head as she spoke.

"What about you Gorgeous, Do you always look good hefting around a body?" Dakota asked simply.

"I don't think most of us have half the things we're required to do here on our resumes," She laughed, grinning despite the fact that they were transporting a possibly diseased-ridden corpse without any sort of protective equipment while stepping on other corpses, "I like your attitude." If the rest of the new trainees were like this, she could see future missions going well or at least not as filled with idiots and whiners.

"I'm surprised you can tell through this mask, Handsome," She replied with a thoughtful hum, turning away briefly to make sure they were heading in the correct direction before turning back to look at him. Her face was hidden from view, but she had an amused grin on her lips as she added, "Or do you have a fetish I should know about, concerning dead bodies and women?"

"Is-is everyone done?" The voice that crackled through the headset belonged to none other than the Moon Hunter who had made a sort of timely escape from ground zero. A figure poked out from above the pit. "Okay, just get a hold of the um, the-"

"- Julie I still ******** need your assistance back at base." There was no mistaking that voice that leaked over the headsets.

The girl visibly winced, looking more awful than usual, if that was even possible. "Yes s-sir we're on our way, just getting the um, the, recovery done with. Oh god, oh god, oh god." Anyone with a decent headset system within a mile of her could hear the Moon Hunter hyperventilating, even though she wasn't actually holding a body. "Okay trainees, lets head back. We'll just drop them off, and then get you cleaned up."

She shuddered again as she waited for some of the trainees before beginning the walk back. Unfortunately, as this was a public voice/headset system, the trainees could still hear everything she was muttering. "Okay almost there, almost done. Oh god, why me, why this? I thought there was a truce, what is going on, why, I don't get it, why the victims, why me. Ugh.." The rest was covered up by gagging noises. Again. And then a repeat of her muttering, like a broken record.

The ten minutes felt like ten hours before the Moon Hunter stopped. "The ... recovered bodies go into empty bags inside." She made no motion to lead the way in.

Before the trainees could question what he meant, Julie opened the tent flap wide open, and suddenly everyone could see rows of black-grey bags through their masks, some obviously fuller than others. Several empty ones lay at the ends of the row. She put up a good front as she let the trainees make their way in, which pretty much meant she had stopped breathing rapidly and talking to herself. "We have water bottles outside, just grab a few to clean yourselves with um, you can use the spare tent canvas as cloth to clean yourselves I guess." She was trying pretty hard not to think about that. "Just- just hang on tight okay, I'll be back."

And with a small squeak, she fled.

OOC

- After completing the task (for those who successfully managed to grab a victim), trainees can linger to wait or simply clean themselves with the supplied water bottles/ canvas cloth
- You do NOT NEED to keep on trying if you did not pick a body up and can just head back empty handed
- The Moon Hunter - Julie - did say to wait so unfortunately there is no portalling back quite yet.
