Ryoto, Dragon Born

The chime of the door echoed through the cafe as a young individual cautiously pushed the door open. He was Ryoto, a Dragon Born. His keen hearing picked up numerous conversations within the filling cafe.

Careful not to let any of his dragon features show upon his now human face and covering his hand to hide his Mark, Ryoto took a seat near the back of the room and looked at he menu. He was quite hungry after his flight to this 'city'. Kaida was close behind him.

He then sighed, worried that she might have been caught by Slayers. The Arctic Dragon was smart and was a spit fire despite her draconic race. The two had to find out more information about the Slayers' next move against them.

"Could I get you something, sir?" came a light female voice. Looking up from the menu, Ryoto came face to face with a young female waitress. "Oh, uhh....yes. Could I have one of these latte things along with what you call a cheeseburger?"

"Yes, you may. Anything else?" Ryoto shook his head. "Alrighty then. They shall be out shortly."

Setting down the lamented menu, the young Dragon Born then started to look around the cafe. It seemed to be clear of Slayers, but one like him couldn't be too careful.

((Awwwyis, let's turn this into a threesome. emotion_awesome ))

[Hera]

Hera watched as another man entered the cafe. Like Isra he did not appear to be from Olympia. He seemed nervous, or at least cautious. She wondered if that was how she had looked when she'd stumbled across this place. She continued to watch as he settled down, ordering something from the waitress. She shifted in her chair, unable to shake the feeling that something about this place just... Well, it seemed to draw people into it. People in trouble, or in need of something. It provided shelter, water, food... Who had created it and why?

The Hero still wasn't sure if everybody that came in here was safe. What if it did not discriminate? She shivered at the thought. The Elite, and the Guard for that matter, wanted nothing more than to find her. What if it granted their wishes, too?

Isra Bal'Hakim

Isra nodded along while he listened. "I'm sure you'll figure out something to do with it. Keep working at it. You might surprise yourself," he assured her, fishing for another piece of ice out of his glass.

He glanced down at his sandy robes, held together at the waist with a faded red sash, a long dagger tucked between it. "Well, yes, I have been wandering a bit. Following an idiot is more like it. I'm on a hunt for a mesekher..." He trailed off, wondering if she would have any idea what one was. She claimed not to be from the desert, after all. "It's this huge reptile not unlike a scorpion. Nasty tail, venomous, mean as all hell. The venom is exceedingly valuable...if one doesn't die in the process of harvesting it," he added grimly.

He'd been hunting mesekher's since he was fifteen, and he had been scratched, bitten, and stung. They had nearly killed him twice. Plus, he had fallen off high rocky ledges, scoured himself against the rough, stony terrain, broken bones, and his back constantly gave him hell.

"Our tracker hasn't been able to pin down a nest, so we've been wandering for two weeks," he grumbled in mild aggravation, eyeing the entrance of another stranger, who bypassed their table and elected to sit in the back. He didn't look like he came from the desert, and by Hera's curious expression, she didn't think he came from her world, either. What the hell was this place?

Mordecai, Demonic Vigilante Cowboy

The Ta'arlock let out a snort as the black trench coat clad figure reined it in. Dismounting the unholy creature, the ebony skinned vigilante looked up at the building he came to with his golden eyes.

He was Mordecai, a legendary demonic vigilante cowboy who came from a world that was not as different from ours, but seemed trapped in the old west scene, but was infested with demonic creatures and evil beings he vowed to destroy.

The Ta'arlock nudged him, indicating that it was hungry. Patting it on the neck, he made a motion for it to go hunt. Shifting his coat to conceal his two six-shooter revolvers, save for his single-shot shotgun that was slung over his shoulder, Mordecai pushed the door open, making the little bell over the door jingle.

The silver spurs on his black leather boots chimed as he made his way over to a nearby table, not too far from where Isra and Hera were located and lit a cigarette.

((you can throw in another character, Aurin. I decided to throw Mordecai in....lol))

Sabriyya

She was barefoot, wearing a practically translucent gown of pale, petal pink that was tied at the waist with a silk sash with a pattern of delicate flowers imprinted into it. Her waist-length silver hair was down around her shoulders, brushed until it gleamed. A tattoo marked her right cheek of a lotus blossom.

Sabriyya felt absurd trussed up like this, but the people who bought her didn't ask her opinion on the matter. When she caught a glimpse of herself in a looking glass, she had been appalled. Even though she had always looked younger than her 22 years, she looked even more like a 13 year old than ever. Out of necessity, she played along with the charade, acting the part of a child, afraid of what might become of her if they discovered that she was older than she claimed.

She had sneaked out of the room they placed her in with the other slaves, determined to have a look about to get a feel for her new surroundings, and somehow ended up in a room of wooden tables, odd looking men and women, and the tantalizing smells of food and drink.

She would have given anything for strong herbal tea, but she had no money. So she stood, awkwardly, staring about her surroundings with wide-eyes that must have made her seem even more the child, unsure what to do next.

((Sorry for the delay guys. Yesterday I got my housewife on and spent way too long baking a pie. XD))

[Hera]

"I don't think I have much hope," Hera said with a sigh. "It's all looking pretty grim from here. I don't even know where to start. Although two weeks wandering sounds rough as all hell, too. I'm sorry that you haven't found what you're looking for." Mesekher. That was another word she wasn't going to even try to pronounce, and although Isra had described the creature she couldn't picture it in her mind. It sounded monstrous, like something out of a nightmare. Anything bigger than a scorpion with that kind of venom could stay in the desert, thank you.

She leaned in a little closer just as the door opened and another girl entered. This one looked like she was dressed to impress, although not exactly in any way Hera would like to be.

"It's like a convention," she whispered. "Can you believe all of this?"

((I wonder if I should bring in another character, just for funsies. I might! I have a bunch more that also need fleshing out, but first we need to work out the dynamics of this group I guess... emotion_awesome ))

Isra Bal'Hakim

He shrugged. "You never know. You can never seem to plan for the good things in your life, just like you can't plan for the bad. I bet something will surprise you." He stretched his legs under the table with a sigh and rested both of his hands over his belly, linking his fingers. "It's not so bad. I've been on longer hunts. Not many, but a few. We have plenty of supplies and we're not really that far out from civilization."

The door opened again. Isra twisted around and glanced at the girl who entered. Probably about thirteen, maybe fourteen years old, with a tattoo on one of her cheeks. A slave. He dismissed her immediately.

"She, at least, looks like she's from my world, although whoever owns her won't be pleased that she's wandering through magic portals, or whatever this is," he remarked. She would have been expensive, being from the group of slaves brought in with the silver and red hair. Her owner would do better to keep a closer eye on his investments.

[Hera]

"Owns?" Hera asked, her lips growing tight. "You mean like... literally?" She hoped this was some kind of joke, but from Isra's demeanor and the other girl's attire - not to mention that tattoo - things didn't look good. "I didn't... You're really not from Olympia, huh."

She watched the girl for a moment, once again sweeping from her head to her toes. This time she felt differently about her, sympathetic but kind of numb. In Hera's world this would be a time for her leap into action, to save human rights and all that. But here? Everything was just that little bit wrong, just slightly out of place.

"I guess that's what it's like in your world," she said. "Slaves. Are they... common? I thought I'd seen everything, but not people in... captivity." She didn't say it, but she was at least pleased that this capitivity seemed relatively easy to wander out of.

Isra Bal'Hakim

"What else would I mean? Owns," he repeated, slightly taken aback by her tone. She sounded just short of appalled. "Of course they're common. Everyone owns slaves in Dedzehep. Maybe not the extremely poor, but most houses have at least a domestic slave, and houses like mine have dozens. Hundreds, if you count the ones working my family's mines."

He wondered if the idea insulted her, and, a moment after he finished explaining things, he wondered if she would look at him poorly knowing that he owned slaves, which baffled him. The more slaves on owned, the more prestigious and wealthy the family. She should be impressed, and hoped that was the reaction he got.

The slave, meanwhile, found a table to sit at, closing her eyes while her shoulders slumped in relaxation. She almost appeared to fall asleep there, until a waitress approached and asked her if she wanted anything. She jumped, as if stung by a bee, but Isra was too far away to hear her hushed response.

Noah the Storyfinder

The man stumbled through a door, bringing with him a fair amount of the rain from outside. Wrapped around him was a dripping cloak that had not kept the storm from soaking him to the bone. Puddles formed beneath his feet as he made his way to the bar, muttering apologies for the mess under his breath. Noah threw himself onto a barstool and let out a long sigh. "Something strong, please," he said as he pulled back his hood.

Noah's long copper hair was contained in a thin ponytail, and much of it stuck to his face and neck. His skin was darkened from years under the sun, though he looked at the moment as if he hadn't seen it in a long time. There was a weariness to his slouch, a despondence to his gaze. His first glance around the establishment brought new life to him, however, as he slowly straightened on the stool and his eyes widened in interest.

He studied his surroundings in silence for a moment before he left the bar, his drink untouched, and walked to an occupied table. Usually he was eavesdrop from a distance, but such a place required more direct investigation. Noah glanced between the man and woman seated there before his eyes settled on the woman who seemed as though she'd seen better days. "Sorry for the interruption," he said, bowing his head slightly in greeting. "Would you mind if I sat here?"

[Hera]

Hera didn't know what to say. It was far from customary for this kind of infringement on human rights where she was from - but that was precisely it. Where she was from was not the only place ever to exist. "We've not had slaves since before the Crash," she said slowly. She studied the man a little closer, but was surprised to find that she didn't hate him. She should, she was sure of it. He broke every rule that Olympia had ever laid down; he had enslaved another human being for use like common property. But here that didn't seem to matter. "I suppose you must be very rich then," she added.

The door slammed opened and a vicious wind cut through the cafe. In its wake was a man. He seemed broken, cold, empty. Hera eyed him suspiciously as he headed towards their table, but didn't have the heart to turn him away. She nodded at the man's request.

"Sit," she said. "Please. Warm yourself. Whatever place you travel from has brought with it the icy touch of winter. I do not envy you." She smiled. "Do you have a name?" She extended her hand.

((Sorry again guys. Life got away from me again. XD))

Noah the Storyfinder

Noah grinned and took a seat. "My thanks," he said, nodding to the man as well. Kindness was always appreciated, especially in strange surroundings. He rubbed his hands together to dry them as best he could before he accepted the woman's offered handshake. "Noah is my name."

He wished it could have been her. Then again, he wished every woman was her. Noah gave each woman he passed by in his travels a second glance, always searching for his nameless companion. It was nice nonetheless to see a friendly smile. Noah turned and extended his hand to the seated man as well. "As I said, sorry to interrupt. Might I be so bold as to ask your names?"

Isra Bal'Hakim

"No slaves," Isra mused, chewing on a piece of ice and making it shatter between hid teeth. "I can't imagine how our economy would run without it. Is yours strong?"

Who would do all of the manual labor? Who would work the mines and shipyards? Obviously, the slave trade would collapse altogether. He saw a very dark time for his country if slavery was ever abolished.

The woman inquired if he was rich, and he frowned slightly. "Sort of," he began hesitantly. "My family is very rich. My grandmother, really. When she dies, it all goes to my aunt, and when she dies it goes to my cousin. I live off their good graces with an allowance. The only reason they haven't married me off is because I hunt these sand dragons and bring the family a fair chunk of wealth through that."

He had the feeling that they were making plans for him, though. He would probably be married and taken in by another family, although they were sure to be wealthy. He was a bargaining chip, and his family would benefit, surely, by an alliance made with another house through his marriage.

[Hera]

Hera mused on Isra's question for a moment before answering. "I suppose our economy is doing just fine," she said. "There are wealthy people and there are not-so-wealthy people, but as far as I can see nobody is really starving. The Elite see to that. There are lots of jobs, even if they don't pay much, and as far as I can tell nobody really complains as long as there are enough Hero ceremonies throughout the year with free food and wine." Hera thought that it was very strange that a man should be so beholden to his female family, but she liked the idea so she only smiled and said nothing.

She turned to Noah, gestured between the two, and said, "This is Isra. We only just met, so don't feel left out."
