Well, so much for true love. It didn’t seem Mattie cared about Agatha really, and that made Marquis relax just a little bit. Still, if Mattie was here and walking around with his wand...
”You’re a Revolutionary, aren’t you.” More of a statement than a question, and Marquis didn’t leave much time for a reply. ”You can keep it... I’ve got these girls now.”
They were semi-autoed, too. It was good stuff, and he’d tweaked them himself.
”I... I gotta go, mate.” If Mattie was Revolutionary, there was no way he could trust him now. Marquis had a lot on his shoulders these days, and he couldn’t jeopardise those people just because he wanted to go hug Mattie. It just wasn’t fair on them, and it wasn’t as if Mattie had contacted him over the years either. Any letter he’d sent had been returned unopened, and eventually Marquis had just taken the hint and stopped. He pocketed one gun and lashed out his hand, grabbing the documents he’d been after and cramming them into another pocket. Not subtle, but this was no time for subtlety. Another explosion made the mansion shake, and Marquis glanced at the window behind him. ”Yeah... really... really gotta go... “

Upon sheer reflex to Marquis’ snatching of the paper’s Mattie sent out a curse to the papers to make them burn up. He flinched, realizing they were on Marquis, about to put them out with a bout of water, but he noticed the papers weren’t burning him. …Magic resistance? Whatever. They were just tactics on how to get to the Resistance Leader. He knew them by heart now, and had improved them.
Marquis wasn’t relaxing. Did he say something about Revolutionaries? Mattie blinked and nodded a little, cringing. It was a rather embarrassing sie to be on, in the current state of the base. How the hell did Marquis know about the Revolutionaries? “You’re with them?”
Mattie just plain sounded pained at this point. Gods. He’d been fighting Marquis’ side all these years. He’d probably killed some of his friends personally. Mattie was overwhelmed with a sense of guilt. Maybe if he just kept Marquis safe, he could make up for something?
“You can’t go back out there.” Mattie recovered slightly, at being able to command. It was mor in his field rather than talking to friends (ha) he’d thought dead. “They’ll kill you. Stay here. You’ll be safe.”
Mattie didn’t lower his wand, though. He didn’t know what he was going to do against the magic resistance, whatever the hell it was coming from, but he never felt comfortable dominated. Especially by guns.

Marquis yelped as the pages burnt into flame, shaking them to the floor more out of reflex than any real pain. Magical flame would still burn him, it would just have to catch something of his alight first and that was the difficult part. He stamped them out without thinking, not wanting to deal with a fire along with a childhood friend and a raid. Keep the problems to a minimum, that was his motto.
” ‘Course M’with them, mate.” He scowled a little. He was about to tell Mattie just how with them he was, but come on. ”Muggle-born, mate. M’not given much choice if I wanna live ‘till thirty. Gotta fight for it.”
He very much doubted Mattie would understand. That he’d been fighting Mattie’s people didn’t make Marquis feel guilty at all: He knew he was in the right, and even if he wasn’t it was what had to be done. There was no way he was going to allow himself to be pushed into slavery just because some inbreds got uppity about bloodlines. His eyes narrowed sharply at Mattie’s order.
”Excuse me? Mate, v’been in mortal danger since I bloomin’ well left school. How ‘bout no: M’goin’ out there.” It seemed Mattie had hit a sore point when trying to order Marquis around. Marquis tended to do the ordering now, and if he felt like walking out of there into the fray, he damn well would. Like Mattie could stop him.

Oh. Mattie hadn’t even thought about Marquis being muggle-born. He’d just always thought of him as, well. Marquis. s**t. He was the enemy. Mattie looked blank, not sure what to do. If he kept Marquis here, he might have slightly better chances of being passed off as a pureblood an let go. He could say he was a hostage from the attack. No one knew who Marquis was, but… Jaye. He was going to beat the living s**t out of that fop.
But sending Marquis back out there was maybe the same chances or worse. What if he ran into Bacio? The crazy b***h would just fry him. Speechless already, Mattie was flat out sent into shock when his orders were blatantly ignored. What the hell? He was trying to save his life. What kind of idiot refuses that? Mattie’s face twisted into a scowl.
“It’s not safe, idiot.” Mattie glare at Marquis, who was steadily inching his way over to the window in the office. He wasn’t going to… No. It was ******** Marquis. Of course he was. Mattie brushed spells aside and dove forward between the two outstretched guns, and grabbed Marquis’ shoulders. “You’ll get yourself killed.”
It took Mattie a minute to realize it, perhaps it was the increased height difference, but he hadn’t been this close to Marq since, well. Since he thought he was dead. He swallowed hard to keep himself from blushing at the thought. But like hell if he was going to let Marquis go kill himself out there.

Little did Mattie know that Marquis had run into Bacio before. Hell, he’d run into most of the people here tonight before, on and off, sometimes in battle. He was still alive, wasn’t he? What the hell was Mattie’s problem? The blonde fairly yelped as Mattie lunged towards him, forgetting to shoot in the moment as heavy hands came down on his shoulders, holding him put. It was almost too heavy for him, and he felt his knees buckle a little before he could catch them.
”I am not safe, idiot.” He growled back, doing his best to look intimidating despite being over a head shorter than the other man. He even tried to yank away. The thought of pressing his gun to Mattie’s stomach and shooting did come to mind, only to be quickly dismissed. He just couldn’t do it.
”Mate, s’not like I came expecting a dinner party, bloody hell! Lemmi do my job!”

Mattie, frankly, all but ignored Marquis’ protests. He was still in shock of him just being alive. But time was running out. Eventually whoever was in the hall would figure out the gunshots had come from the office. It wasn’t difficult with the three bullet marks in the door. He didn’t have time to create a cover for Marquis. He’d have to let him go. Mattie looked immensely unhappy, but the footsteps were getting nearer. It was Marquis’ best chance for survival. He roughly pushed the gun near the window aside, not really thinking about his life too much, and threw the window open. “Go.”
He hugged Marquis quickly, still not sure if he was real or not, then pushed him towards the open window, hoping to whatever God there was he had some safe way of falling. “Don’t die.”
None other than Jaye himself threw himself into the room before Mattie could be sure Marquis was safely gone, but with Mattie in front of him as one hulking body shield, he was sure Jaye wouldn’t risk anything.
Jaye’s eyes widened in shock, then narrowed something akin to a fake smile. “Marquis! You’re alive! How wonderful. Pity you’re on the other side, though—“ He cut off short catching Mattie’s glare.

Mattie’s turn-around had been awfully fast, and was starting to make Marquis suspicious. Until he heard the footsteps, and then it made sense. He was about to wrench the window open himself when Mattie did it for him. He smiled when the other man’s arms wrapped around him, squeezing back before tip-toeing to brush his lips against Mattie’s. The kiss was short, broken off due to the door open, and Marquis was on the windowsill when Jaye walked in.
He almost bristled like a cat. He flipped the elder man the bird, before flipping backwards out of the window and into the night. And hopefully into Piper’s arms, if they’d understood each other right.

Mattie jumped a little at the kiss. He honestly hadn’t been expecting any return, not with Marquis having not contacted him in five years. Plus, y’know. Different sides of the war. The result being, Mattie was blushing furiously, still trying to glare the hell out of Jaye while Marquis got away. He heard a soft thud and an ‘oh my. You’re heavy~!’ so he assumed Piper helped with the fall. Hopefully. Mattie’d seek him out later on his own to make sure he was okay. For now? Jaye was going to die.
---- -- - -
It took little to nothing at all to cover up Jaye’s murder. Mattie very quickly claimed that the leaer of the resistance, who was rumoured t be a trained wizard, had killed him before Mattie could get to him. There was no argument. No one would dare. But there was a significant amount of knickers in knots about their only healer being dead. Whatever. Mattie didn’t care.
He’d been waiting for the opportunity to go alone on a “mission”. He had a good idea of where Marquis was, having talked to him plenty of times about his Uncle’s business. He was itching for the chance to disguise himself as a muggle. All the more reason to be able to openly carry his gun. He still needed to train, though! Just in case he ran into the actual resistance leader.
Mattie kicked open the door to Bacio’s quarters. It hadn’t really occurred to him to hide his thoughts. Poor Mattie. “Fight. Now.”

The s**t had hit the fan since that mission. Whatever they Revolutionaries thought Marquis had discovered must have been pretty important, because they lashed back with the intensity of an irritated badger. This wouldn’t have been so bad – the attacks mostly stung, nothing very lethal had been thrown yet – but it grated simply because Marquis hadn’t found out anything interesting at all, other than Mattie was a big-shot in the enemy ranks. It took very little digging to find out just what he was: head hit-man. In all honesty, Marquis could have guessed. The other man’s specific mission, though, that was still a mystery to the blonde. No amount of prodding, poking or whining at captives would get them any answers either. Perhaps they didn’t know. It was frustrating. Zachary insisted Marquis keep a low profile post-attack; there had been rumors that the Revolutionaries intended to snip the revolt at the bud, and that was Marquis, and being cooped up was driving Marquis insane. Staying in the basement of his own accord was all well and good, but knowing he couldn’t leave was the cincher. It wasn’t his own house he was stuck in either, that had been blown up quite a few years ago.
Blaaaaah. Boredom!
- - - - - - -
Bacio had been lounging about on her bed in… well, not an entire outfit. After all, people normally knocked before barging in on her – they knew better, after all – so it was with mild bemusement that the albino peered at Mattie, clad in just a pair of slacks and a bra.
”All that rich-boy upbringing didn’t buy you any manners, de’Medici?” If the albino was offended by Mattie’s actions and being caught in her bra, she certainly didn’t show it. Her finding a shirt and slipping it over her head almost seemed to be an afterthought, before she pulled her wand out of somewhere and murmured something under her breath… then paused.
That pause seemed to last a few minutes, before a wicked giggle ripped itself from Bacio’s lips. She turned to the boy with a smirk, that ‘Oh really’ smirk that she was so well known for.
”Oh, I don’t think you want to fight, Mattie-boy.” The grin widened. ”I think you’re much too tired. Certain blond keeping you up, mm? Oh wait, you just wish he was.”
Oh, this was going to be a good time.

Mattie had his wand out and everything. Why the hell did she have to be like that? Mattie scowled profusely and looked away politely. “For gods sakes, put on clothes you whore.”
He grumbled, fully expecting some slick retort and instead getting something about a blonde. What? Marquis was blonde. …Oh. Mattie turned back and glared again, only to whip his head back at the wall. She hadn’t gotten her shirt on yet. Augh. Mattie tapped a foot impatiently. He didn’t respond to her comment, instead. There. See what she could do about that. Besides, what the hell did she know?
“Hurry the hell up.” He snapped. He checked back and she had a shirt on. Who the hell lounged about half-naked anyways? Decency was dead. Mattie didn’t even wait before throwing a rather nasty curse at her. He reaaally needed to relieve some stress. He was gunna go searching for Marq later that night. Well, according to the paperwork, he was recovering their herbalist, but whatever. She could rot for all he cared.
---- -- - -
Speaking of herbs. Vita reaaaaally wanted hers. Like, badly. Some a** had taken them when she’d gotten knocked out, an damn it all, she was starting to feel sober. Never good for the arthritis. Her fingers were starting that annoying dull ache. Mixing up the proper powders was going to be a pain. She cracked her knuckles loudly. “’Ellloh? Anyone in this crapshack?”
She stretched out to try and relieve some of the ache. Eh. It was mostly psychobabble, she figured. Then again she’d never really gotten along with most healers and doctors. Vita started humming one of her favourite bands, air guitaring to keep her blood flowing. Not her fault if it was completely off-tune. What did she care? She was a prisoner. Might be her last day with a bit of a high. She purposefully screeched out a guitar solo. If they hadn’t heard her call before, they sure as hell heard that.

”Whore?” Bacio almost hissed the word. ”For your own information, de’Medici, what I wear when I’m by myself is none of your business.”
It was rare to see Bacio ruffled, but this appeared to do it. Or, did, until that grin came back. ”Aw, don’t be jealous you can’t get up on this. It’s not your fault”
Mattie had gotten a lot better recently, and it was only her years of practice that helped Bacio deflect his curse. A giggle, a bit of a jump around, and Bacio had lobbed her dresser at the poor boy. She’d never brought throwing things into the game before, and she did like to keep Mattie on his toes.
”Aw, is someone cranky ‘cause they’re not getting any? Nervous for tonight, are you?” It seemed she’d stuck around in his head. ”Do you remember your luuuuubing spells, Mattie-boy?”

Mattie threw himself towards the left side of the room, only giving the smashing dresser a glance one it had past him. Okay, he could play that game. And he’d use crystal Mattie flung a crystal lamp at Bacio, putting a good deal of force into the throw. He wanted to see f she could dodge the shrapnel on that sucker. Wait. Did she say something about…? s**t. <******** you.”
He tried to throw and Expelliramus at her faster than she could cast the lube spell. He hadn’t had the chance to look up the reversal on that yet, and he really didn’t want… Well. He didn’t want to be lubed when he found Marquis. That’d be just gross. Mattie hid behind the little slump of smashed dresser as a cover, popping up just to check on her position and throw some more curses at her.
What he was really itching for was the chance to use some of the spells he’d been modifying to mimick guns. Oh, and one for a bazooka. He’d rather liked the description of those buggers.

There were shards of crystal in her arm. Dark red splotches blossomed on her sleeves, and she raised her arm to her lips and wrapped them around one of the shards. A quick yank, and blood dribbled down the crease of her mouth. ”Tcht, like I’d let a butt-banger anywhere near me.” Which wasn’t entirely true, really, but she wasn’t about to say that. Unlike Mattie, she made absolutely no effort to hide herself. Whether it was just because she was cocky or just stupid, she began stalking her way towards Mattie’s hiding spot, deflecting curses towards the walls. The smell of singed wallpaper began to fill the room.
”Awww, c’mon Mattie, Mattie, Mattie.” She cooed, flicking her hair back behind her head, the tip of her wand glowing. ”I won’t be tooooooo rough with you. Don’t want to leave you sore for your little butt-buddy, mm?”
”Lord above, woman, can’t you stay quiet for just five minutes?” Zachary grumbled, fumbling with the magical locks on Vita’s cell before he toed the door open. There was no grudge between them: Sure, they hadn’t seen each other in a few years, but they seemed to fall straight back into the roles they’d had on leaving school. He didn’t glare at her, more gave her a blank, apathetic look. Really, he was only down here to say hi out of courtesy... and because Marquis told him to. It was either that or let the blonde out of the house again, and Zachary wasn’t going to risk it.
”If you just keep quiet, they’ll probably let you go in a day or two. Marquis trying to pull a few strings.”
How cheerful.

Mattie flinched. He wasn’t a butt-banger. He and Marquis were just… Mattie shook his head and stopped the thought process. Bacio would just use it all against him. He needed to clear his mind completely. Mattie focused on the curses hitting the walls. They were getting gradually closer. Mattie grumbled. With a quick flick of his wand, the rubble he was hiding behind flew forwards. Might slow her down a bit.
He scowled, and ran a little to his right so he could still get a clear shot when he needed to. That comment she gave broke through his concentration. “I’m not gay.”
He could still lie.
---- -- - - Vita perked up considerably at the sight of Zach. Oooh~! She hadn’t been expecting a handsome visitor! Heehee, he still looked so serious. Vita immediately donned that insufferable grin. Well now she simply couldn’t keep quiet. It would be rude. She stood up, albeit a little shakily from the pain in her knees. “Oh, Zachie~! I knew yew’d come fer me~.”
‘Course she knew he’d done nothing of the sort. Knowing Zach and his bloody loyalties, he was more likely working directly with Marquis. Oh my. Marquis was still alive. She wondered absently if Mattie knew. They used to be such good friends~ Well. She might prolong giving the information though. She didn’t want to be the one to break it to Mattie that his highschool buddy had a new best friend. That’d be a tad touchy.
“’Course I ain’t gunna be quiet. Some b*****d took away my ah… Medicashun.” She was starting to have a very good idea of who had probably taken her stuff. [“Rather hard to focus, n’whatnot. ‘Sides, everyone luvs a bit o’ singin’!”

Oh, Mattie’s thoughts were exciting~! The boy wasn’t exactly in denial – he knew perfectly well he had a massive case of the hots for Marquis – but he was trying to look like he was in denial. To Bacio, this seemed a little counter-productive, and she let off a particularly vibrant curse in Mattie’s direction. She then flattened herself against the floor, ducking clean under the rubble flying in her direction.
”HA. Oh, de’Medici, pull the other one!” The way she regained her feet was sinuous, almost as if she wasn’t bending her knees. ”I don’t know who the hell would believe Agatha’s stupid stories, but I know you only touched her once… which is ridiculous when she was practically shoving her boobs in your face every minute of the day.”
She snorted again, snapping a paralysing spell in Mattie’s direction. ”So the conclusion, kid, is that you’re either gay or have some outrageously overgrown sense of morals. Which we can count out straight away, am I right?” _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Her voice, and hair, were as grating as ever. Zachary was never quite sure how he’d managed an entire six years of schooling with the woman, who managed to be in almost every one of his classes. He should have gone deaf, or blind, in a body’s defence against such painful attributes. The only hint of irritation came in the form of his eyebrow twitching, and his lips pursing ever so slightly.
”There’s a strict no smoking policy here. And he knew Vita smoked a lot of crap. Or, she had when they were in school, much to his chagrin. However... he tossed a small bag onto the woman’s tiny bed. He wasn’t sure what the hell was wrong with her, but he knew she needed at least some of her crap for medical reasons. ”Just don’t get the place dirty. You’re not going to be here long.”
Apparently the thought of her attacking people with needles never came to Zach. I mean, come on, it was Vita.
