Logan glanced down at his hand as she held it. "Ah, it's nothing," he said, shaking his head. "I really...shouldn't have hit him. I was just so angry. I...I guess I lost control for a minute. But he shouldn't have said any of that..."
His voice trailed off and he looked away. It wasn't just that he was appalled by what he had said. He just...couldn't believe he would say something like that. To and about Kendra. She didn't deserve that. Even if it didn't bother her the way it bothered him.

She giggled slightly, letting his hand slip from hers. "If you say so," she said smiling. "You're a good man Logan.... Thank you."
She leaned forward slightly, her hands on his sides in a mock-half hug.

Logan's hand fell back to his side and he stood for a moment before lifting it. He put it on her back and would have returned the hug more except for the fact that his other arm was in a sling. It really was awkward, wasn't it?
He sighed and patted her back before pulling away. "I really am sorry," he repeated. He felt like he couldn't say it enough. "Can we...just forget about my brother and pretend like I'm an only child? It's just what I've done all my life." He let out a slight laugh. His last sentence wasn't really said with bitterness, though it was true and he did feel slightly bitter about it, but he didn't want to bring his childhood problems into their relationship.

Kendra smiled, nodding. "What brother? Who are you talking about?" She laughed slightly before leaving and walking over to the table where her drink was. Would they always be like this? She hoped not but for now, perhaps it was best.

After a few more weeks, the entire incident with Matthew was almost entirely forgotten. Logan had little, if any contact with the rest of his family, as usual. Almost unfortunately, it was how he wanted it.
He had finally gotten his sling off and was able to use his arm again. He had begun to work on his strength since visiting his classes and falling asleep. He knew that he had lost muscle mass and wasn't used to actually doing anything, but that proved to him that he really needed to work on it. He had since built the muscles in his arms. He tried to work on his legs, but it was difficult since he still had a cast on.
But that didn't last much longer, either. He got the cast off of his leg and was almost back to normal. His leg was very weak from not being used in such a long time. And, of course, he could never be completely normal again with the loss of the sight in his left eye. But, at least, he had started to get used to his monocular vision.
The students had put together some money and gave Logan a gift card to a local restaurant as a 'get better soon' gift. Still feeling incredibly grateful to Kendra, he asked her to go with him. And that is where they are returning from....
Logan, still limping slightly, had insisted upon going up the stairs rather than the elevator. He needed to work on the strength in his left leg. He was going back to work in about a week, after all. He couldn't be limping around the entire school. They came to his floor and walked down the hall, Logan smiling.
"I'm glad I could at least treat you to dinner. I really can't thank you enough for everything you've done," Logan said. "I know I've probably said that about a million times, but really..."

Kendra smiled, her hands ready to catch him should he fall. "It's nothing, really. But.... I appreciate the dinner.... and the company. Though, I think most of the people there thought you were my father." she giggled slightly as they neared his door.
"I'm really happy to see you with those casts off. You've worked so hard and made such a quick recovery."

Logan nodded. "I am too," he said as they stopped next to his door. "It felt like I was imprisoned in my own home with those things. I'm just glad I can walk on my own without so much difficulty. That must be what it feels like to be old."
He laughed slightly before shaking his head. "But I suppose you'll want your 360 back. Once I start work again, I won't have time to play it. The poor thing will feel abused."

Kendra shrugged slightly as she stood there. She felt like she had been walked home by a boyfriend but then again, this wasn't her door and he wasn't hers. "Take as much time as you need. Just pile it all back into the box and I'll take it home with me when you're done. I think you've gotten more use out of it than I have since I bought it. I'm sure it appreciated not being on a shelf being covered by dust like it would have at my place."
She shifted her weight as she stood, her smile not faltering. She felt so small next to him, but in a good way... if that was possible. She brushed her skirt with her hands, smoothing away a large wrinkle that had formed in the fabric. She looked back up at him, adjusting her shirt strap slightly.
"I bet you'll be happy to get back into work. Get your rhythm back. Though,... I won't lie. I'll miss seeing you ever day and taking care of you. I've grown fond of it I think."

"Well I can't say I'll miss it. No offense intended, of course," he said with a smile. "I'll miss all the time we've spent, though. But hey, you'll still be in my class. So it's not like we won't see each other all of the time. Especially since we live by each other...."
His voice trailed off as a thought came to his mind. "By the way, I still don't know where you live. You've always come to my apartment. Shouldn't you let me walk you home for once?"

Kendra giggled, her hand coming to her mouth. "I've never told you have I?" She turned and pointed to the second door down from his. "That's my room. Not right next to yours but close enough. I actually didn't even know you lived here until I took you home from the hospital. It surprised me. I was going to say something but I always ended up forgetting about it. So, I guess you could walk me there?"
She laughed again, brushing her hair over her shoulder. "And yhea, I wouldn't miss being locked up in the house either.... and I suppose we will see each other. I don't.... think... Ah, it just won't be the same for me is all."
They would return to being simply teacher and student. She didn't want that though. She wanted more. She wanted to be the one he looked forward to seeing every morning. She wanted him to think of her like she did of him. Was it such a hard thing to ask for?
Her chin fell to her chest as she fought with herself in an attempt to keep her happiness. It was going to be hard. The sadness threatened to send tears rolling down her face. They would only confuse him though. How much pain was she willing to make him have? She didn't want him to have any, that was for sure.

Logan looked down the hall at the room she mentioned, a smile coming to his face. "Well, that explains how you got here so quickly all of the time," he said before looking back down to her. "Well, that will make it easier if you want to maybe carpool once I start going to work again. That is, if you don't mind getting to school a tad early and leaving a tad late every day."
He smiled before offering his hand to her. "Shall I take you to your room, ma'am?"
Somewhere in the back of his mind, something was trying to tell him how odd this was. She was his student. He would never act this way towards a student. But just the thought that she was a student hardly entered his mind anymore. She was a friend now.

Kendra shook her head, "To be with you? I wouldn't mind at all." She took his hand and looked up at him. "Why thank you sir. I'd greatly appreciate you walking me home. It is awfully late," she said, a tone of mocking in her voice as she joked. Though she knew she couldn't be serious, a part of her wanted it all to be. Every bit of it.
.: I'm... being nice... and letting you decide if Logan wants to make the move or not. If you don't want him to then tell me and she will... cause she's getting close to bursting. :.

((I thought we said she was going to confess first and then he would kiss her? Cause he needs to be pushed before he actually does anything.))
Logan smiled, taking her arm. "Well that's good then," he said as he walked her down the hall. "You're welcome to stay in my class before and after school starts and ends."

Kendra paused in her stride, hiding her face as it flushed. She couldn't hide this any longer. It wasn't fair. And he should know, shouldn't he? A warning if anything else.
"I'm not sure if I should," she whispered, her head held low. She fought to say the words that clutched her throat tightly. In the end she forced them out, tears threatening to take over her. "Logan... I can't lie to you. I... I like you more than a friend.... than a teacher. I have for some time now, but I've tried my best to keep it within me. I know,... you could never love me the way I love you... and I'd never ask you to do something that could endanger your job.... heavens, I don't want you to feel guilty either. I... I'm so sorry... I just couldn't take it anymore."
She let herself slip away from him as her hand came up and clutched her breast as a pain set in. A deep ache that made it hard to breath. "I just couldn't take the pain of having it here any more,.... my heart isn't that strong. I thought I could go on the way we were. A little bit of you is better than none at all right?" A single tear rolled down her cheek as she looked into his eyes. "But I'm greedy Logan. I don't want it to be just a little. I want it all. Every inch, every breath. I want every glance to be at me. Every word of love directed at me. Every thought of happiness caused by me..."

Logan stopped. Not just walking, he just stopped. Stopped thinking, stopped breathing, just...stopped.
He stared at her, unblinking. How did this revelation seem so shocking and yet he had somehow known all along? It felt painful. Her words. They weren't meant to, he knew, but they seemed to shoot straight through him like little needles. Love. Could she...could he...? He didn't know. He just didn't know. But what he did know: this would never be tolerated. Ever. Not by the school, not by his parents, not by anyone. The thought was painful. But then....
Everyone else left his mind as the tear that fell down her cheek reflected some of the hallway lights. He stared at it. Why was he being so selfish?
His throat was so dry, he was afraid that if he tried to speak that nothing would come out. He opened his mouth slightly, but no words came to him. He stopped, looked down and closed his mouth. His eyebrows furrowed together before he took in a deep breath. Screw everyone else.
He looked back to her and brought his hand out, placing it on her shoulder lightly. If words failed him then he would use his actions. Actions spoke louder than words, after all.
He brought his hand up from her shoulder to her neck and then to her chin, lifting it up slightly as he leaned over towards her. Their lips met. It was the simplest gesture, yet it said more than he could possible say aloud.
