Are you confused by the 16 different ways to say "the," too? I'm FINALLY starting to get after I discovered an AWESOME book on German that was published in 1961 in a used book store... xd Though it's more of a store for collectors of old books... but that's besides the point! sweatdrop I'm finding that courses don't seem to cover that nearly enough... at least not mine...

If my last name was Oder al I'd cry. XD But yeah. I meant to say, Im called Alexei or Al. There's another Alex who I hang out with, so I'm not called Alex to. Somehow. Differentiate.
Then I have like 3453425435134523451345436457463 more nicknames.
There's a man here whose last name is "Bloodlust". I s**t you not. I want that last name. HE'S FROM ENGLAND. HE'S A /SIR/. And he's allowed by law to ride into Church on a horse. o-o
I just wonder.
Why would you need to do such a thing anyway? O_o
Fdjfdslkfja, off topic.
I've gotten into this bad habit of saying "Na" in place of "Well" when I'm speaking English. ; ; THE EXCHANGE STUDENT LOOKS AT ME FUNNY gonk

Sluvotsky I've gotten into this bad habit of saying "Na" in place of "Well" when I'm speaking English. I'll sometimes start a sentence with "Eigentlich" or I'll scream "ohhh, krass!/Whoo, geil!" when I find something awesome. o.o; I'm also one of the billons of people who says "Sheisse" all the time. ; 3; My friend once said, "Ever heard her swear in German? It's like music!"

Like music. XD I swear in other languages when the older relatives are over. So they think it's frustrated gibberish <_<; It gets me out of trouble. x3

Are there 16 ways? Never noticed... Let's see: der die das and????? Well, there are four cases in German. Nominative (The subject) Accusative (The direct object) Dative (The indirect object) Genitive (Showing ownership) Die/Eine: Nominative - Die/eine. Accusative - Die/eine Dative - der/einer Genitive - der/einer Der/Ein: N - Der/ein A - Den/einen D - dem/einem G - des/eines Das/Ein: N - das/ein A - das/ein D - dem/einem G - des/eines Plural: N - die A - Die D - Den G - Der. So like, (And I'm ripping this STRAIGHT from my German grammar book since I'm too lazy to come up with it on my own) Der Junge geht nach Hause. - The boy goes home Ich sehe den Jungen. - I see the boy. Ich gebe dem Jungen einen Apfel. - I give the boy an apple. Die Freunde des Jungen. - The boy's friends.

Yep. I found that very confusing at first, and still do, to an extent. I never really learned the whole nominative/accusative/dative/genetive thing in school (or at least not that I remember), so it was all new to me... am I the only one, or...? confused sweatdrop

Never really noticed that all of those are translated as 'the' in English. I can see why they would cause someone who is learning German trouble..

I *still* have trouble with the "the"'s. It's a bit sad, but that's the bit that Germans are most likely to be more than happy correcting someone on. >.<; It's so simple for them.... ; 3;
Oh god, I feel a rant on japanese particles seeping through. gonk
