Well this kinda sucks. Either I caught my grandpa in a bad mood, or he is more easily angered than expected. Today, I went into my granpa's trailer to get an soda, something I have been doing for years now, and when I opened his fridge and grabbed a soda, I noticed it was one of those tops that was kinda malformed so I put it back and grabbed one with a normal top.....
Turns out.....that really, really, really, really pissed off my gramps. Immediately he got into my face and started yelling at me about how I have been going into his trailer grabbing soda for 3 years (not once did he take any issue with it until now) and how what I did was the dirtiest, lowest thing anyone can possibly do. He told me to get the ******** out of his trailer, and so I did.
Now, naturally I felt extremely bad about what I did, cause I have never seen my granpa so pissed before. So about an hour later, I went back and apologized for my actions, and told him that now that I knew he took issue with me getting his soda, I will lay off and not do it again. It was attempt to patch things up as it were, but it backfired. He started yelling again, and basically ended it off with, "I couldn't care less if I never see you again in my life, now get the ******** outta my face".
Now normally you wouldn't think that such a trivial thing would cause such a huge issue. But it did....and I am pretty much certain I lost my status as family member as far as he is concerned. I had already tried to apologize, but that seemed to make the entire situation worse.
Any suggestions people? In the end, family is all we got, and no matter who it is.....I don't like making people angry at me, much less making them hate me.

I'm telling you from experience... some things you can't fix with family members no matter what caused the problem. I haven't talked with my little sister in over three months and I haven't seen her in three years, because of my own mother. Sometimes its best to just not try, since things can only get worse even if you try to apologize....

Sounds like a stingy old douche to me. I'd just throw a handful of quarters in his face and say thanks for the soda b***h. Then I'd bide my time until he dies, drink another soda at his grave, and then piss it all back on him. But hey, thats just my style. cool

@Fire : You are correct, though I can't help but feel that maybe there is something I can do to have him forgive me. Maybe a few 24 packs with a apology card on top....then again he doesn't like reading and would just take the soda....That doesn't work however, then only thing I can do is stay out of his way. I will love him to death even if he doesn't love me.....but it is unfortunate that he would make such a big issue over something so trivial, going as far as bringing in the concept of hate into the equation. @Fenrir : Hope you have fast running legs should you ever decide to do that to my paps. He may be old, and decriped....but he won't hesitate to try and kick your a** if you cross him. From the way he was sounding, he was pretty close to doing so with me. You would figure I was stealing money from him or some s**t like that. I think the only thing holding him back was that I was basically family up to the exact moment.

I basically avoid my whole family cause of s**t that my mother did... for your gramps though it might be the simple fact that you entered without asking and drank his soda without consent... the elderly were big on that kind of thing along with tightwads....

As I said before though, I did that for 3 years and he was completely accepting of it. He only took offense cause when I put the malformed can back into the fridge. I would tell him my thought process during that matter but I don't think he would understand. It was basically, "Huh, this can is malformed. Drinking it could cause certain issues", so I put it back and took out the normal can. My thought process wasn't, "Huh, this can is malformed, I'll just take the good can and leave it for Paps". My intentions were instinctual and not with the faintest trace of any sort of malice or disrespect. But as you suggested, he is a product of his own time. What he saw and what I saw were 2 completely different things. Still...it is a bit irksome considering the way he reacted was over a ******** SODA CAN!
