Bleepity brzzz ood peep...
*ahem* Sorry about that.. All this cold weather has been reeking havoc on my circuits. I just wanted to swing by and see if you were all ready for celebrating Valentines Day? Or do you boycott the holiday due to commercial corruption of the holiday?

I boycott the holiday because it is my dad's birthday and I don't like being violently reminded that I do not have a special someone.

I'd have to say those are pretty good reasons for boycotting... I boycotted the holiday when ever I was single too... and I don't really celebrate it myself anyways.. but the kids are in elementary school and so they of course "have to" participate in the card exchange... at least they force the kids to give everyone in the class a card so no one feels left out.. but I hate the fact that I should have to pay to celebrate anything.. thankfully I'm a good cheapskate and we just printed out valentines day cards for them to color and give out... and I've got left over suckers that we got in bulk after halloween lol.. so they can give those out with their cards.. I has to go put kids to bed or I could easily sit here and rant on this for a while I suppose...

I find it a bit strange that the world has basically created this holiday. The reality of it is a priest getting his head cut off; that was the story of the actual Saint Valentine. Then because Chaucer and Shakespeare used the word valentine in a romantic context in their writing it suddenly became a romantic holiday. Just strange how time seems to warp things. Though I suppose nobody knows the whole story. *shrugs*

Yeah.. I've never liked that we are supposed to go out and buy stuff for our "loves" on one specific day just so companies can make money.. *sigh* we should show the people we care about that we love them every day not just on Feb 14th so companies can make money... I can do this same rant on the "Diamonds are a girls best friend" bulls**t too.... and then feel like a hypocrite as I own diamonds..... sweatdrop lol On a totally random note... check this out!!! tis crazy.. I living in a snow globe!!

I don't celebrate the valentine's and the whole celebration is in here mostly an imported commercial holiday. I don't intentionally boycott the holiday but I don't see it as a "holiday" so I tend to forget it.
I agree with Erin that the whole idea these days is warped. You don't need to buy stuff to show people that you care about them. I tend to just say it or do little gestures through out the whole year.

I celebrate by spending time with my wife by either a dinner and a movie or just hanging out all day. And maybe some flowers and chocolate.

My husband and I decided when we started dating some, OMG, 11 years ago, that Valentine's day was a strange consumerist holiday. We think most holidays are strange though, especially Catholic holidays that are based on Pagan ones with the Catholic church's view of Paganism. Then again I've never been normal, lol. Flowers die, our kids have a million stuffed animals cluttering the house already, I make my own jewelry, so chocolate is the only 'socially exceptable' Valentine's gift left and I say BRING IT ON!!! rofl Exxos: I have no idea but you can probably look it up in the Second Life Wiki ~ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Main_Page

I decided a long time ago to view Valentines Day as "Celebrate Chocolate Day." Since then it's been a pretty good day. rofl

Chocolates lead to sex. I never knew that there were so many people who want 'chocolate'.
