Malik looked it over. well that was convenient. no wonder they didn't spread on the surface, the could spread here. But he was no fool to think that they weren't being watched, or that their presence wouldn't be planned for eventually. So he got off Ramoth, and looked at the area ahead of them.

"Let see if there's anything in the plantlife."

Looking through his saddle bags, while the two Droag landed silently by the boys.

"You go in ahead."

The Droag nodded, and marched right into the area without a second's pause. Malik found what he was looking for, and took the pouch and picked out a handful of what looked like raisins.

"This should prove interesting. I hope they'll work like they were supposed to. Myklorian, come over here."

Galesen shook his head lightly to Piper;s question as he made his way upon the scene. Though he looked to Fianna and gave a small nod. "Seems to be, I guess this is how they got through?" A pause as he looked around. "It's a perfect spot to bring others in and hide if they need too. They can spread out from here and gather whoever they need for their own plans." Slowly he got off his horse, and after patting Barhnel's side for a moment he wandered over to Malik before turning to him. "What you got there Malik?" Out of knowing the man for this long there were still a few things he didn't know, these little things were one of them. But slowly he looked around where they were again, he had an odd feeling that he rarely got, like they were being watched.

She rolled her eyes...men, always trying to go barreling into things that were better taken at a slow pace. But a look over at movement and she shook her head, apparently Zahara wanted to do so as well. What ever happened to the gold old days of strategical advancement and the like? "No need to throw something at anything...or send anyone ahead either." Pinning down both Zykariel and Malik with a look each.

He sighed lightly and pinched at the bridge of his nose. "Zahara, don't. Take a look around, the ceiling is riddled with holes that lead to the surface which means it could be weakened and the bottom is depressed. Sure there's spires out there, but you don't know how fragile that rock may be if it's sunk like that." If Zahara and Malik had anything in common, it was that jump into the fray attitude....he hated that. But a look to Galesen. "They wouldn't need to hide...they boy said they're surface creatures and are restricted to the area, or something they need around themselves to sustain however they do. Well, they have access here. Provided that the journey here wasn't that long...could be said that they made the trip back and forth on 'battery life' if you will. Until they took forms that is." Hm, boy the crazy did hypothesize didn't they?

Mykorian was watching the ceiling above, all the little holes that let in shafts of light. Hm...there was something familiar about that and he couldn't help but think that he had seen it all before. But a blink as Malik called his name and he dropped down over his horse, walking over with a curious tilt to his head of 'what?'.

"Droag are expendable. I can breed them as easily as you could rabbits. I'd prefer any traps to get them, or if there's defenses, they can take the brunt."

glancing at the boy, and a Galesen.

"these are eggs, which hopefully are in suspended animation, and not dead. they are a creature called devourers. pardon the language, but they look similar to giant sperm with a huge mouth filled with rows adn rows of sharp teeth. the have a very accute sense of magic and blood....otherwise, completely blind. they float on the air."

dropping them on the ground, and taking Myklorian's hand, and one of his daggers and cutting it open.

"You're going to bleed on them. that should spark them to a growth spurt, and thier first hint of life will be of surface blood and magic. which does have a distinct difference to other types. Runics are unfamiliar to them, so they won't notice it I think. which means, they'll go after the biggest source of magic that is most similar to you. if these things need surface components to survive, these creatures should home in on it. they aren't difficult to kill, but they can spawn fast and always hungry. I'm hoping they'll provide a good distraction so we can start looking for a way through this and into the nest of these 'nells."

Zahara reeled around and very nearly slapped Malik. What in the ******** was he doing?! Getting off her horse, she strolled over and jerked Mykorian away, glaring at the blue elf. "Do you know that for damn sure, Malik?" Studying the elf's palm and then shaking her head. "How do you know you didn't just set off alarms?!" she hissed. "If my children end up dead because you were too ******** quick to act, I'm going to kill you. These things haven't overlooked any minute detail thus far. Will you stop thinking you hold all the cards long enough to let us figure out what we're going to do before you start throwing things down, contaminating areas and possibly getting us all killed?!"

Throwing her hands up and stalking back then shaking her head. "We have two options here, kids. We can either stand here and wait for something to happen which isn't finding our children any faster or we can leave the horses and go down. Every single horse can get themselves out of danger if needed. Now, someone break out ropes and let's do this. Relying on magic isn't going to get us anywhere. Old survival instincts. Watch your backs, watch your fronts. Be prepared for anything because our General could possibly have alerted the calvary. And unless those droags can use a rope, are damn good at flying or won't break every bone in their bodies as they freefall, they stay here as well. Now, also remember that we don't know anything about these things with the exception of their ability to override our reverie and their ability to take on other shapes. Stay alert, everyone."

Malik calmly walked over to Zahara, and grabbed her wrist and used it to pull her around to face him before letting go. his eyes were about a millimeter from boiling with anger, and his voice was very much a military, gruff, and definately trying to control it's anger sound.

"Would you kindly use that brain of yours for more than thirty seconds in five minutes? As you pointed out, they know us. they have the ability to put us into comatose states, as we've already learned, when assuming a form, they have the potential to have access to everything thier target knows."

pointing his finger at her chest.

"which means, everything Zykariel and Sevilin know about you is potentially at thier disposal. every rune you know, every spell you know. every potion you can make and how to make it and what it does. They could know every rune sevilin can perform and every method to counter it. they can know everything your son knows about magic or physical training. And, they can prepare for your reactions by drawing on what sevilin may have witnessed under similar circumstance."

looking over at his wife.

"Everything Piper knows about me. my actions with dimitri, my actions at kithicor, every spell I've used and every little quirk I have when dealing with enemies. they might even know about T'haen. And they have had three full days, uninterrupted, to prepare and plan for it. Which is why, dear Zahara, being unpredictable is better. doing things even we're not entirely sure of or haven't tried before."

glancing at the things on the ground.

"I don't know if that would work. which also means, they don't know. they can't know. I had Broog come because they will only know what Piper knows. which is that he's a jeweler. they can't know how dangerous Broog can be. or any weaknesses of his. They don't know what Droag can do. hence I brought them. They have no knowledge of Myklorian, thus I didn't insist on him staying behind. Use your brain, and stop thinking with your heart."

Walking back to where he was.

"Now, lets give this a try. if it does nothing more than provide them an annoyance, it's better than nothing. Their not going to kill our children. They went to far too much trouble to kill them, considering they aren't trying to ransom them. You don't waste three days just to kill a toddler."

A small blink from Galesen as Malik explained what was going on with the little things in his hands, though before he said a word he saw Mykorian's hand getting cut which sparked off an argument between Malik and Zahara. "Well now they certainly know we are here..." He said in that sarcastic tone of his before turning back to the area that laid out before them. "No matter what, with or without those devourers and Droag we need to go in there anyway despite the knowledge that there may be traps. After all we only have so many people and who knows how many traps they got prepared for us? This place is huge and they can be anywhere."

A small pause before he went back to his horse and grabbed some rope, at least for two people. "I'm willing to still head on down, you all can decide on either using those things Malik has. In the end we need to actually get down there and get things done. These 'nells aren't gonna wait for us to come knocking. They got your children so instead of yelling back and forth at one another we need to come to a middle ground now." He looked back and forth between Malik and Zahara for a moment, his grip on the rope tightened a little, if they didn't come to a conclusion soon he'll go down there with or without them. He may not be in their position of having a child gone but Galesen would still rather set things right, and that meant actually getting these 'nells soon and saving the kids.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:09 pm

He jerked his hand back with a yelp, not expecting that at all and cradling his bleedy palm to his chest, stumbling back some as Zahara pulled him futher away...as adults went about yelling at each other. He merely watched and listened for the moment, blood soaking his shirt. A look to his hand, and then to Malik...were they still doing this blood thing then? It was unsettling.

Down in the bowl of rock as the sent droag walked through a beam of light there was a sudden flare of dust as if someone had kicked up a mass amount of it before it swirled and cleared, leaving one being passed out on the rocky ground and another standing in it's place. It seemed to test out it's new body a bit, flexing wings and what not. Hm, nice.

He frowned as he watched. "Great...now they know the droags."Shaking his head...Blood red eyes narrowed at Malik. "Keep your hands off my wife Malik. You're in the same boat as the rest of us, but that does not give you right to manhandle as needed." A kick to his horse to move over to his wife and resting a hand on her shoulder as if to tell her to let it go. Malik was being an a** at the moment from his trying to be in control in a place where he had none at all. Now was not a good time for them to be butting heads.

She too was wathcing...hm, quick learners...which meant Malik was giving them a potential army if they were taking anything. And when Malik walked back over...he got slapped again. Yup, that was Fianna's action of choice tonight when she was about to make a point it seemed. Hey, stick with what worked best. "Enough. She doesn't know everything but neither do you so stop acting like you do. Who knows what you're doing is going to do down there? Think about it Malik...these things are targeting specific others...throwing them fodder may do nothing, if that fodder can even do anything to begin with." Pointing down to the bowl, "Did you see what happened there? What if they can duplicate those things too?" Shaking her head and giving them all a once over.

"You're no tracker, you're no ranger. None of you are. Leave the tracking and leading to the rangers. Thus being the one in charge...we're following Zahara's plan. We're heading down there and not giving them anything else than what they could have now. Nothing new in there means no new tricks. Think about it. They know us and we know ourselves and each other. Now Galesen, start securing that rope someplace steady so we can repel down. If you can't repel you can piggy back or slide. Don't rush, there's a certain art to doing it. Isn't that right Piper?" Turning a look to Piper...who was suspiciously still. Dismounting she walked over, pulling her daughter off her horse whom only slumped back against her mother. A blink at that. "Pip?" Why did it seem she was getting the brunt of these effects? Jostling her some.

"The air doesn't smell right...." He was more or less engrossed in watching the area before him rather than listening to them all fight over things. Fighting wasn't going to help. "Zykariel...you remember that smell? I do." It wasn't pleasant, it wasn't messing with his mind and he knew it had nothing to do with these scent traps. It was a stale smell that was laced with slight sulfur and yet sweet smelling at the same time. The boys had run across it before when they were out exploring one day. "It was that plant rock crystal thingy..."

"How long till you think they'll get here?" Petting through soft silvery white hair.

"You mean if, or are you going to let them come?"

"They're the ones who want trouble for themselves. Besides...some of them aren't even going to be able to make it too far without making the rest of them stop."

"Well that's because of you M'lady. You had first choice."

"I think I made a fine choice. When they do get here though...make sure they don't stay in a pack. Playing with them is so much more fun when they're alone or in small number."

She felt vindicated when her husband stood up for her and relaxed beneath his grip, aware of nonverbal cues and meanings. She took a breath and glared at Malik but pulled away to tend Mykorian. "Don't slice anymore children." Resting a hand on Mykorian's hand, she healed it gently and brushed her hands through his hair in motherly fashion. "Stick close, Mykorian. And be careful." Zahara frowned immediately as Fianna threw out information. "Piper? What's wrong with Piper?" Releasing the boy and walking over, she tested the elf for a pulse and fever and shook her head. "She's passed out..." A glance at Fianna. "Same tricks?"

Zykariel hopped down off Destyny, ready to defend his mother the moment Malik put his hands on her. Family was all he had right now and the battle lines were clearly drawn. Malikhai distracted him and his hand left his handheld weapon for a moment, glancing at his friend and sniffing the air experimentally. "You're right. That purple one that looked so beautiful but was...well, we think, deadly."
PostPosted: Fri Jan 18, 2008 5:09 am

"To hell with the rest of you."

Malik growled lightly when one took a droag form, but that still proved a point. there were many of these things there. Malik drew his sword, and went on ahead. Zahara's bullheaded need to be as predictable as possible, Fianna slapping him and hiding things about Kieran, his wife's self given guilt trip...right now if something that looked like Zahara popped up in front of him he'd probably cut it down without even so much as blinking, and not lose an ounce of sleep about it. Until he heard the mention of Piper..he paused for a moment.

He looked down at the trees, and ground his teeth.

"Wake her. if you can't wake her, we'll leave her behind with Broog."

Then he walked back over to Piper, and took her bow, and an arrow, and walked back over, drawing back and taking a moment to aim, letting his vision shift some. he let loose the arrow, which imbedded itself very nicely in the soft part of the droag's neck and right into it's brainstem. instant kill..and just to point that out to the new enemy. Malik knew exactly where and how to hit and kill very easily his own servants.

Before tossing the bow back over by Piper, and securing a rope and throwing it down. and glancing up. what he wouldn't give for a cave in right about now. But he hopped on over the edge and slid down the rope, landing at the base and looking into these damned trees.

"Come on then. Where's your tricks now. lets see you. You're just afraid, that's what you are. hiding in illusions and false forms. come on, where's your pride. you kept us asleep for three days to take children because you knew you wouldn't get within fourty feet of them if we could fight."

First tree right by him, got sliced through, just because he was frustrated and wanted to kill something. a plant would work just as well for now.

"come on out and play! I'm sick of cat and mouse games. You can take forms, come on, show me something impressive. become a nightblood. walk out here as my brothers or my sister or my mother. how about my father maybe. Why not try Cymarron on for size, see if you can even match a pale shadow of the real thing. I'm right here, no one around me. what's the matter?"

Fianna shook her head as she watched him acting out, borrowing weapons and then just acting out again. He was going to get himself killed this way. "What is wrong with him...he's not helping." Turning her attention back to Zahara and Piper, she handed the woman over to her friend...and promptly slapped her. Which yes, quite roused her some with an unplesant noise. "Hurts, but works." Taking off Piper's bandana and unrolling the cloth, tying it back over her daughter's mouth and nose. "That should help you some. Alright, let's get going before Malik gets too far ahead...or let's his anger get the better of him."

If she was more coherent, she'd say that her mother's slapping had certain healing or at lease sense bringing properties to it as she blinked a few times and merely tried to get her feet back rather than leaning against Zahara. "I'm okay, I can go..." Head was spinning and she was starting to feel sick to her stomach.

Unlike the others...he knew one of them was going to run off. Malik or Zahara first and it looked like Malik was letting things start to get to him."Too many headstrong people in one place. You're all unfit to lead..." More or less mumbling to himself as his ever increasing discomfort was starting to make him aggressive. Getting down off of the horse, he walked over to Broog, handing over Lyssie. The ogre knew if anything happened to the girl that Sevilin would strike him down in seconds flat. A look to the boys though...what were they talking about? They were recognizing something? "Is it anything your mother has seen before?"

She giggled as she watched with eyes that were nowhere near her enemy. "Oh poor thing...he's gone and let himself get irrational. You see...study one long enough and you know how they move, how they work. Everyone is predictible...push D'vinn enough...and he starts acting as thus. Foolish for him, good for us." A grin. "Retrieve him. He can be the first to go." Letting the child in her lap nuzzle at her in his comfort seeing. "In fact once we have him...send the girl to him."

A flicker or two in the lights that filtered from the surface as Malik walked, calling out things and trying to vent his own anger. Near by a flower like crystal cracked, seeping scent into the air. Another kick of dust in front of Malik, but this time when it cleared he was not where he once was.

"Yeah...we were gonna bring it back but when we broke it, it made us feel horrible." Shaking his head as he clearly remembered that scent. It was disgusting and made him feel weird. A look down to where he father was off to, watching. A glint of light caught his eyes...and he noted the repeated glints elsewhere...crytals. Hm, were those the same? A tad far away to tell. But his attention flicked to dust, only to see his father disappear. "Dad!" Which meant a drop down off the horse and to the rope, down with irrational teenage self.

For Malik, the space he was in was dark with pinpricks of lighting on walls and ceiling. He would feel himself bound by something but nothing holding him as well as a certain heavyiness to himself. A shift in light would reveal Faate standing in her stoic fashion, just staring at him. And next to her stood Malik himself...or at least the borrow form of.

"This should be good. One down...scatter the rest."

A look to the Drogas and Galesen sighed, that's what they need, another creatures to copy. So now they know more about one of the creatures at Twilight, that would not bold well in the long run. Still Galesen kept his mind apart from all the arguing that was going on. He was trying to think of what kind of traps, other than being copied like the Drogas, would be in this area that would pose a threat for them. The elf thought along the lines of mental attacks of course, everyone of of them could hold off on their own, their mids would be a better target to attack. Though a look to Fianna and he gave a small nod to her. "Alright give me a moment." And so Galesen went about setting up the ropes so they could be repelled down with. A look to Piper as it seemed that she wasn't in a good state. "Is she alright?"

Though Malik's sudden words made the elf turn to the drow as the man suddenly took off down the rope after getting rid of the Droga that was copied, and went about egging the 'nells on which of course would be a really bad idea. "Damn it Malik we don't know what they have set up for us!" He shouted but Galesen had a feeling his words would fall on deaf ears, the drow wouldn't listen to him anyway. A look to Fianna and he shrugged. "He wants the kids back, but he wants them back now he cannot wait any longer, Malik patience has run out which is why he's acting like this." Though he blinked at the elder elf's way of waking Piper up, crude but effective, they needed Piper with them. Though when Malikhai shouted Galesen looked back down to noticed that the drow was gone. Though in quick reaction he grabbed the young blue elf and held him. "Malikhai stop it! If you go down there you'll end up exactly like him! We do not need to give them any more of us to copy or do who knows what. Calm down Malikhai, I'll let you go only if you do." A look to the others for a moment. "Okay so just going down there is out of the question, unless you can figure out a way to avoid disappearing."

Malik shifted his shoulders a bit, so it was heavier here. probably a means to slow or prevent an escape. A look at Faate and there was himself. how pleasant. though his expression didn't even flicker at Faate.

"So. What makes you think I won't run her through and you as well, my twin, and just say she was dead when I found her. What makes you think I care at all what happens to children that aren't mine, if I have to get them out of my way?"
PostPosted: Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:59 pm

"She was right about you...Cocky, easy to anger, easy to rile, easy to trap. And so uncaring. You know, I think perhaps it was a favor we've done...What if the same rules applied to your own children? I could pass it along after all. Would be no issue." Shaking his head lightly and brushing a hand through Faate's hair before stepping closer, nodding down to Malik's boots to show he wouldn't be taking a single step at the moment. Malik was quite anchored to the ground by almost etheral bindings.

"And what if you can't get yourself out of this? I know you think you've done a wise thing. Offer yourself as bait to find this place...those bonded to you will follow your trail, those that trust that bond will follow and you'll all end up here. But this place is our playground. The fun we're going to have with them. Especially the fun I'm going to have with your wife...or rather, my wife. Can't have her causing trouble after all."

A gesture back to Faate. "You see that, stoic look in her eyes? Could you honestly kill a defensless child? I thought you weren't a butcher anymore. Perhaps everyone is wrong." A sigh. "Your, mine, looks no better. In fact, worse I would say...but that's not a bad thing in this case."

"How do you think you're going to fool her. you can't mimic everything, and even you aren't privy to all my secrets like she is."

Okay, so plan backfired a bit. a look down at his feet, a shift in weight. okay, so they used some kind of binding there.

"and they know not to trust me if I do show back up. We know about your doppleganging trick. what makes you so sure they won't cut you down as soon as you show up."

glancing at Faate.

"And yes, I can. I may not be a butcher, but that doesn't me I won't do what I have to."

turning his attention back to his other self.

"well, since I'm here, and it doesn't appear that at least for now going anywhere, care to enlighten me on the reason you chose to come down here and take our children as opposed to dealing with the surface annoyances? Hell they seem more scared of you then we are. should have been much easier."
