Torpor is like a hibernation for Vampires. but yes, there is the chance that you'll starve yourself and not be able to get back up. hence die the final death. according to teh general source I use, Vampires are the childer of Caine. he was cursed by god, and then Awakened to magic by Lilith. during that ceremony, he was met by each of the 4 archangels, and told that he woudl be forgiven if he chose in essence to die. he refused. each cursed him. micheal cursed him with fire, Raphael with sunlight, and Uriel that he would 'eat only ashes, and drink only blood' and never change from the state they were in life. Gabriel gave him a mercy, a path called Golconda. kind of a vampiric redemption, but it's damn near impossible to attain. vampiric nirvana I guess you coudl equate it to. So Vampires as a whole you coudl say are a really screwed up mixture of divine wrath and magic. thier body is dead for all sakes and purposes, but the power of the blood aparently keeps it from decomposing, as long as it is fused with fresh blood periodically. the older you are, the longer you can go. This is another strange thing that is the death of a vampire, they, no matter what age, amlost instantly become ash, like Time taking back all the years they defied death at once.

Most Vampires don't know how they work, jsut that it works. even the ones that guess, don't really know becuase no one can study a dead vampire to try and figure out what's going on internally.

And it doesn't increase thier power like go into Torpor, wake up three days later twice as tough. they grow stronger as they age, and Torpor offers a chance to age without risking being hounded/eaten by younger vampires, avoiding the intrigues of thier peers and or being eaten by them too.

Do I have to dig into Freud? I'd expect the reasons are the same. "made in god's likeness" after all.

Vampires have the Riddle. A monster I am, lest a monster I become. besically..no matter how touch you are, how fine your mind is..madness will get you. centuries, millenia, everything changes, crumbles cycles..while you don't. the vampire recourse to this? indulgences, habits, addictions. things to occupy the mind. but then that can lead to madness too. they do monsterous acts, in order to reatian thier humanity. for example. start a gang war, costing hundreds of lives in gang and police members, so they can condemn a neighborhood in order to build a homeless shleter there.

Murder a rich family, down to the last child, so they cna rob the estate and bank accounts blind and then give part of teh money to all children's hospital. that kind of thing.

but there is supposedly a path, that allows them to balance the feral nature of vampirism with the more upstanding nature of humanity in general. this is golconda. if this state is acheived, they won't fall into madness, the balance thier evil and thier good. It's usally a path of choices, doing things for the right reasons, wether they hurt thr vmapire or not, and culminates in a dream ritual called Suspire, which is more often than not fatal. if they make it to Golconda, as long as they keep to the path, they balance themselves. but you probably wouldn't be able to understnad why they do things anymore.

Also, like anything else..you cna get to Golconda.and lose it. which proves to also be suicidally traumatic. SO those that have reached it you probably woudl never see, and those that try die, and those that get it and lose it more often tehn not die.

Vampire fascination with sex....is simple. it's the easiet way to get prey. I altered the rule abit for romantic pruposes, but normally vampires don't feel anything more form sex than you would rubbing you had on a coffeetable. feeding, however is like sex to teh 100th power to a vampire.

It's just easier to get food by seducing it and screwing it to mask teh slight pain from biting into them. mortal gets laid, vampire gets fed, everyone is happy.
