Marcus laughed. "Like what? I really think the elders are less conservative than we thought, because they don't care about...well, anything really. We ran away, declared that we were going to be in Russia for six months, and now we're engaged. And they've scarcely raised an eyebrow."

"Perhaps it is because they had been waiting for something to happen for so long." Terryn shrugged halfheartedly. "But I do agree with you. I wish that they would take this a little more seriously."

"They should at least pretend to be shocked." Marcus sighed. "What I wish is that we could really genuinely surprise them. Give them a scare." And show Gran that he did, in fact, know what he was doing. That would be good, too.

At this, Terryn's expression changed slightly. Her lips curled into a grin and she leaned into him closely. "Really? Well, did you have anything in mind?"

Marcus shrugged. "That's just it. Nothing. I can't think of anything that we could do to really..." he gestured with his hands. "Shock them senseless." He looked curiously at Terryn. "Why? Do you?"

Terryn pondered that for a moment, a somewhat pensive look on her face. "We could tell them we have broken up...no that wouldn't work...you can't keep your hands off of me long enough." She looked up to him with a grin, winking at him suggestively.

Marcus grinned, shaking his head firmly. "No. Nothing that requires me to keep my hands off of you for any amount of time. We could...hm. What would really and truly scandalize them?"

After a moment, Terryn's devious grin returned. "We could always do the exact opposite."

Marcus blinked, and a slight smile pulled at the corners of his mouth. He wasn't quite sure what Terryn meant by this, but anything that summoned that particular expression on her face had to be good. "What exactly do you mean?" he asked, straightening up.

"Well..." Terryn pulled him down onto the couch with her, leaning close so that if someone was nearby they couldn't hear. "If a seperation will not work...what about a union?"

Marcus looked genuinely puzzled. He was half afraid that Terryn had lost her mind. "But...we are getting married, remember?" He held up Terryn's left hand. "And they don't even care..."

"Correction." Terryn squeezed his hand and glanced at the ring. "We are engaged to be married. That could be a long way off. Everyone expects us to wait a few months so that they can plan things. Planning adds work and stress, taking away the excitement. So all we need to do is take away the work...and the time."

Marcus smiled. He beamed at Terryn mutely for a few moments before leaning in to kiss her impulsively. "When? Can we leave tomorrow morning?"

"If you so desire..." Terryn snaked her arms around his neck and pulled him towards her, leaning back slightly. "We could leave tonight."

Marcus was thrilled. "Tonight it is. Greece?" he asked hopefully, in a low voice. He wouldn't have known what to do if the Duchess had appeared at that instant. Luckily for all three of them, she didn't.
