I've been looking into a little known and celebrated musical
movement known as
Lowercase. To directly quote the definition:
"Originally coined by minimal artist Steve Roden, lowercase is an
extreme form of ambient minimalism where very quiet, usually unheard,
sounds are amplified to extreme levels. (It is a common misconception
that lowercase music primarily consists of lengthy silences.)"
I have listened to a few of Steve Roden's fledgling compositions
and I think they require very advanced sound systems to make
anything of what seems like silence. Microphones have recorded
the movement and growth of plants for instance... this leads into a
genre known as field recording which is a whole lot of fun as well
(another post perhaps).
The piece of Steve Roden's I'm celebrating in your comments would
seem to touch on classical / free jazz/ longhair music / ambient collage/
and some otherworldly element of magical dream like composition that
makes me think of some of William Basinski's greatest tape loop "cloudy"
pieces. I really expect you to fall in love with what this has to offer you
in your dreams and wide awake art quests. I would to hate to have lived
my whole life and missed a statement so very brilliant.
