Jonath Nell themightyjello Some people are light sensetive... technically 'allergic' to light. And some people just feel very uncomfertable when they are in the light, so they avoide it at all costs. You speak of photophobic people. I speak of photoallergenic people. Difference. @ Blackening: Na-uh. You said specifically that he needs shadows, and some other junk. If I turn off the lights there's no shadows, just darkness. CAN YOU MANIPULATE THE VERY WORLD?

Kichiro Oda If you throw a shadow at me, I'll laugh. If I use darkness to mess with you sight, you stumble around until you figure out a way to dispell it. ...Or you use some from of training to find out where I am with out being able to see me.

I'm citing directly from the cheesy and poorly made Okage: Shadow King RPG game for PS2.
The hero boy has an evil, possessed shadow. The girl doesn't want it to hear their conversation, so she turns off the lights and he disappears, because there's no shadow where there's no light.
And whatever people may say about shadow being a 'gradient of light'... it's really a semantics thing. Darkness is the absence of light. Shadow is an area where there is less light than in the general vicinity otherwise. If there's no light at all, there's no shadows, just... nothing. Darkness. The absence of photons.
I have a character that uses shadows in his powers, but doesn't manipulate them. They're just sort of there symbolically. Light magic can sure hurt, but throw in a guy who can control shadows and make them all disappear, and it's like an off button.
