She wasn't too pleased at being told that she couldn't see him at all. Of course she'd lied and said he was her boyfriend and then she'd tried the brother route as well. Both had been shot down and by two different people so now she was stuck in the stands watching with everyone else. She'd seen others go in the tents, why couldn't she? But it seemed Malikhai had a new fire lit in him as he fought more determined than ever and felled yet another opponent. Something had changed, though what, she didn't know because she hadn't been permitted behind healing lines.
"Fine. Just used too much energy and my body is reacting." Dragging the cloth away, she sniffed to make sure that was it for the blood and then carefully folded it up and settled it inside another in her cloak pocket. She knew better than to leave her blood floating around. "My parents, sister, and two brothers. It gets kind of crazy, but I can't imagine living by myself. Aren't you too young?"

"Oh...your kind of magic does that huh? Kinda neat, kinda not." Crossing his arms like a little tough guy, he shook his head to her. "Who says I'm too young? Last time I checked, you didn't need to be a certain age to live alone." Or did you? He didn't really know too much. Point was he was doing fine on his own...kinda...he hoped. Needed money, but that was always the way it was. "So you like being around all that noise huh?"

Malik noticed someone in the stands, and nudged Piper in the ribs while Onyx and thier younger son cheer and whooped and hollered, enjoying themselves.
"That's the girl there that Malikhai was flirting with. Think we should invite her to the box? If I'm not mistaken, she seems to be watching our son rather intently, don't you think?"
His turn again. He got up and moved out to the dirt arena, and held his position as he had before. this enemy was a half-elf dual wielding some rather impressive looking weapons. longsword and a cutlass. the word was given, and battle commenced.
The first clash of blades brought the flames, but didn't shatter the weapon. magical toys. he defend from one withteh sword deftly arching hismself back to barely miss the swipe of the other, and a dance began. his blade was in constant defense, and he was blocking and dodging the other one with his forearm guards and heavier shoulder armor.
the half-elf opponent was deft and quick, but not experienced enough for a battle hardened soldier. he was counting on speed and dexterity to overwhelm his enemy, to wear him down. one misplaced swing, however, and it was all over. which came all too soon for his liking.
the blades locked at a bad angle, and the golden armored elf was able to force one into the dirt. he thought that was fine, swinging the other one down toward him. what he didn't count on was the elf letting go of the b*****d sword and slamming his full weight into his chest. he was forced to let go of the blade in the dirt from teh momentum, and the impact itself made the other blade drop harmlessly behind the golden armored elf.
While he laid there gasping for air and trying to get to his feet, the gold one simply picked his sword out of the dirt and brought it up under his neck. after that, the match was over with a yield in his favor. Back to waiting for him.

Well those two were enjoying themselves. Onyx was still so much like a child sometimes it was quite funny. But her attention turned over to the girl whoim Malik pointed out. "So it is...I suppose we can aid the boy in his little endeavours to the world of women. Would rather promote that than tournament play, personally." Pulling aside one of the many tournamnet staff and instructing him to go give the girl the offer of best seats in the whole arena practically. "For once you have yet another good idea." Thusly watching as the numbers dwindled between her son and the elf from Malik's past. She vaguely recalled him from communion that Malik and her had had...things were starting to make sense now. Though a hand rested on Malik's arm, squeezing lightly, as things progressed and names were called once more for the two that were left, having worked their way up the ranks.
Two more round each...and then it was them. To which Malikhai took great delight and immense apprehension to. After all, this was one who battled hard and held an apparent grudge. He had Zahara give him a good look over before hand and then plucked up his courage. His extra blade was hitched to his hip and his shield to his arm. Helm put back on and secured he took a moment to psych himself back up before heading out into the arena, much to the roar and anticipation of the tournament crowd who had been keeping track of who fought who...and it seemed these two were the best of the enrolled sword rank, both taking down opponent after opponent. One a well seasoned warrior by the looks of it and the other a young boy with ambition and his family's name to back him. Malikhai stood at the far end of the arena, waiting to watch the elf in gold and silver armor to come take his place as well. Was he shaking from adrenaline or a fear he wasn't aware of? He'd pick the former.

She made damn sure he took everything he was supposed to and she was holding Malik to his word too. Every one of her kids for as long as it took Sevilin to get past whatever was eating at him so strongly. It was times like these when marriage was just hard and the benefits were few and far between....but right now she had a boy that she loved like her own son, as stupid as they both could be, who was courting very real danger. Piper wasn't going to be happy and neither would she if something happened to that boy.
SHe tilted her head and studied him trying to decide if he was really okay with being by himself. She didn't know anything but what she'd grown up wiht though she had friends that were only children and they seemed to do alright. They had parents though, usually. "Well...no, I didn't say that. I just...doesn't it get lonely? I mean, what about when you get hurt or scared or need someone to kill the really big spiders? You don't have anyone to cook you your favorite meal or just hug you when you had a bad day at school...or anything?"
She was a little apprehensive when she glanced up and noticed that it was Malikhai's parents that were requesting her presence. Was this where they threatened her to stay away from their son? Something about her status? Well, she didn't take too well to snobs. Following the staff member, she walked in and gave a nod. "You requested my presence, Lord and Lady D'vinn? I find myself wondering, out of all those here, you would choose me."

The golden clad elf did indeed come out to make his way to his position, and he gave a have unconcious nod to the change in weaponry n the other. Obviously his father had enforced it, or he'd been bright enough to realize he couldn't use a b*****d sword alone.
"you are strong willed. but strength and ambition will only get you so far. the gap of power between you and I is about to truly be revealed."
He shifted his position, holding the sword out in front of him, but still at shoulder height, and the blade at a slight angle from his shoulder.
"Though I admit, I am a bit curious to find out how much of the father has been passed to the son."
Malik glanced up, and gave a slight smirk.
"And I would wonder why it is that you would need to question that at all. You have an interest in my son. I was not unaware of your attempts to get past the healing lines. As a friend of his, we wanted to invite you to a better seat to watch the proceedings, that's all. Unless of course you'd prefer not to?"
Onyx of course had his eyes on the field, his ears focused in, and reading lips with his eyes. gotta love feline eyesight sometimes, and hearing to match.
"Um...parental figures? this guy here just said something about a 'gap in power'....that's a bad thing when an elf says that, right?"

Despite her own nervousness at the two now on the field, she gave a warm smile to Kaelin, though it wasn't devoid of a mother's worry at all. "Indeed a friend of Malikhai's is always welcome, and I dare say you'll really find no better seat." Letting triple colored eyes turn back to the arena and she gave a nod to Onyx. "Yes, usually...that is a very bad thing. But at the same time can be a foolish thing to merely think on."
"Power is not the only deciding factor between you and I. You would do well to remember that." Sure you were supposed to respect adults, but this was an opponent and in this competition Malikhai himself was viewed as an adult for what he had taken on. Taking a breath and flexing his fingers, he withdrew Ebony. Yes, two handed sword mostly but he had trained enough to be able to handle it one handed as well enough. "Perhaps you would do well to remember one other thing," dropping down into stance, he wasn't stupid enough to be the one who jumped first. This was a battle where words were just as good as strikes as well, "from my father I may be but...I am not my father."
Well gee, did she have to go and point all of that out? That wasn't cool things to think about and indeed the things he tried not to think about at all. "I guess sometimes it does. I just whistle to myself when it gets too lonely...but I really don't know about the other things, I guess I just forget about them or try to be brave. Being brave is half the battle." Another shake of his head. "I don't go to school either too much. Only sometimes."

The older elf gave a small smile.
"to be young again. To feel unstoppable, to feel that against all odds, you will claim victory. As you wish. and you may not be your father, but an apple never falls far from the tree."
and he came, his feet were swift and sure, and that blade came down with an incredible force. both from the elf's innate physical strength, and the power in the weapon. when it cracked against the shield, it reverberated with flame.
Malik shook his head lightly. the boy had only half listened, but at least listened to the important half. he was carrying his shield.
"What he means is that his sword is not his only weapon, Onyx. he's a paladin, he has holy magic at his disposal, much like I have necromantic as a shadowknight. that elf there is literally the anti-thesis to me. Though, it will be interesting to see if Malikhai still has any illusion tricks up his sleeve, or if they've been forgotten."

She was still suspicious but she merely gave a nod. "Thank you. I accept graciously." She settled herself into one of the seats slightly away from the family but still close enough to not be rude. It was uncomfortable to be around his family when she didn't even know what he'd said or done in regards to her. But all of that was wiped from her mind and she turned her attention back to the arena, watching.
Faate chewed on her lip and nodded, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I guess I've just never really met someone who was all on their own before. Do you..." pausing for a moment since she really didn't want to upset him again. "have any other family?" His last sentence stopped her and she tilted her head. "You're too good not to go! How else are you going to keep learning about your magic?! I mean some of those tricks you pulled were absolutely amazing and you have a really high power level. You should go more often. Even if it's boring. The magic teaching is pretty good."

"Glad to see you reveling in your memories, but honestly, keep your mind on the field." Though it seemed this one had ideas about himself that weren't true. He thought he knew all there was to the young mixed blood elf, but he didn't. To say the least, he wasn't quite prepared for the sheer force of that first blow and it made him realize that he was in for more trouble than he initially thought. But he also knew that true courage came in the midst of batter, not before and thusly he pushed back despite flames and arced his own sword up to clash with the others to push it away before swinging again, his own sword flaring up with it's own energies and power granted to it from Malvolence. He may be bigger, stronger, maybe even faster...but Malikhai wasn't going to go down until he was so worn he couldn't stand to life his sword. Family Honor was on the line and potentially his father's life. Bluffing was always good too. Now, remember your training; Keep moving never stop, try to keep in circular ways, never let your guard down.
"Nope, not that I know of." Casual about it, or at least he seemed to be so."School doesn't make me money. Sometimes I have to choose what I want to do, go to school or do some work to get some steel. Everyone likes to eat everyday, right?" Though he seemed at least a little flattered by the comment somewhat, in boyish manner of course. "I have books at home that I read about magic, they help. And magic is all about being crafty too."
"What good will they do him? It's no doubt that that elf's magic can top Malikhai's without contest...it would just be a waste of energy for him to use it. I hardly doubt an illusion or two is going to help too much. If he's as old or older than you, he can probably sniff his way through illusions like a bloodhound..." in reflex habit, her hand came up to twin her fingers into her collar. Talk about stress from worry.

"Illusions can be quite useful. even minor ones."
Malik glanced at the girl, and grinned lightly, before turning his attention back to his son on the field, and taking Piper's hand from her collar and holding on to it.
the older elf moved fluidly, stepping back and around and backtracking around, his sword never stopped moving, either for defense or offense. every blow that clashed blade to blade or blade to shield there was another coming soon after. the rune along the blade of Nature's Defender were constantly burning and blazing to life.
Even blows that glanced off armor produced sparks and bursts of flame, so great was the force being put into impact, adn the sheer power inherent to the blades themselves.
"Who said my mind was not in the field?"
Thier blades were locked in a dead heat at the moment, literally. but the older elf gave up some, beofre taking a hand off teh blade adn thrusting it forward, a blaze of bluish white light springing forth far to close to be avoided. the imact made a audible sound against Malikhai's armor, adn the force was like a battering ram.
And the elf didn't hesitate a moment, and evne as that impact forced them apart, his sword was coming again for Malikhai.
His wife was standing by the healing area, wringing her hands together some. not for her husband, she was quite certain he would claim the victory due to his far greater experience. she was worried for his opponent. She did not want a son injured for the long ago offenses of the father anymore than she wanted to see her husband injured by an overzealous youth bent on proving himself.

Kaelin had seen more than her fair share of battles in her life and this one was beginning no different. One swordsman clearly had more agility, strength and power but the other was going to put up a decent fight. It just happened that she knew the younger one and had a certain interest in him that gave her an on edge feeling. She'd seen Malikhai fight before and knew he was good but he just wasn't good enough to stand up to the onslaught coming at him.
"Money? I suppose you would need enough of that to live on." She'd heard her parents arguing about whether or not they had enough steel often enough and knew how hard it could be to actually come by it. That was the reason Daddy had to go to Twilight every day and sometimes even on days when she and her brother and sister didn't have to go to school. That was also the reason her mother had worked for a little while before Kelli had been born. At the mention of food her stomach grumbled loudly and actually pretty embarrassingly and she blushed. "I'm hungry now. Wanna go get something to eat?"
Zahara swept down on the female elf and shook her head. "You cant' stand there if you have no reason to. You aren't here to accept healing nad you have no child in my healing arena. What reason can you claim for remaining where you are instead of viewing the proceedings from the stands?" Though she recognized that worried look and softened her tone slightly. "Who are you watching for?"

It was an intensity he had never been put through before. Not once could he stop in his movement least he be caught by a bladestroke. For quite a time he found himself defending more with his sword than using it to strike out. Though finally he had taken his own offensive measures and the two had taken to exchanging sword strokes. It was a tiny moment of reprieve in movement as their swords locked up and it was a test to see who was going to hold...he wasn't ignorant to get cocky when he felt the other give some, but even knowing that he had not claimed a win in that situation he was still not fast enough to avoid the blast of unfamiliar magic.
Hm, so that's what it felt like to get trampled by a dragon? Painful and it more or less knocked him back off his feet, but his eyes were still in the game and he threw his sword down into the ground to halt his falling, dawing the katana in his posession and arcing it to clash against the other's blade to deflect it. He was a smart boy if anything. Gaining a mere half second he grabbed Ebony from the dirt and jump stepped back with a certain flare of shadow like energy to his person. Thus there stood the boy, determined looking as ever...though to those who knew him best, they knew what that breif energy meant. He had just pulled a Doppleganger and a Shadow step at the same time. Sure he was more trained in his illusions but he had learned a shadowknight trick or two from his father as well...he couldn't hold them long, but they would at least by him a bit of time. And he used that time well as his double took care of momentary distraction, strifing behind his opponent and more or less leaping out of thin air with both blades in hand. One came down hard against the other's lower back while the katana against the back of his knees with substantial enough force even for a child Malikhai's age.
She had her doubts, not that she would voice them out loud. After all...had to at least be a little positive. Though her attention breifly turned to Malik as he took hold of her hand. They both knew she wasn't overreacting and Malikhai was in the ring with anyone else, she wouldn't be worried. But this was something to worry about. Malik's eyes on the other hand seemed glued to the field and eventually that's where hers were pulled back as she watched the display between the two unfold...he was unrelenting and brutal, already forcing the two to magics, uping the stakes.
That boy was going to be taking a beating, anyone could see that. THe one he was against in the ring meant business if anything and he seemed ready to go to just short of killing the boy if need be. If he wasn't him it would probably be hard to watch...he knew that Lyssie had her eyes closed and was covering Kel's eyes as well. Him, he watched and observed...no, that wasn't the signature from earlier had had picked up. At least it crossed off one more person on the potiential threat to the fortress list.
"Mmhm, just gotta pick." But a blink as her stomach growled and she seemed to give a cute little face to which he blinked to, tilting his own head. Momentary attention back to tournament sounds before back to her. "Jeez, they must really be going at it in there." Nibbling his lip a moment in decision...he didn't have enough money to eat out. Oh well, he could tag along anyway. She was nice to hang around if anything. "Um sure, where you wanna go? Plenty of places around here, tavern or not."

He had his eyes glued to the field as well, silently urging his friend to put various tactics and moves to work. Reaching over, he grabbed his little brother before he tumbled off his little sister's lap and hid the child's face in his chest. "You don't want to see it Kel. Watch the people out there." Handing him the stone his father had given him, he patted the boy's back lightly and watched his friend, wincing as various swipes made their mark. His mother was going to have her work cut out for her.
"It's the sword competitions now and they're in the final one I thikn." Listening as clanging swords and gasps of the crowd rang through. "Tavern. Come on." Aware of what her mother and father had taught her about respecting another person and not making them feel a certain way, she already had a plan forming in her mind. She wouldn't offer to buy him food, just order far too much for her little stomach to handle and invite him to help her keep the food from going to waste. It always worked on her father when he refused to eat so why wouldn't it work here as well? Finding a table at the tavern she ordered two platters of meat, some soup, and some milk then turned to Mykorian. "Do you want anything?"

Now he was dual wielding. impressive. a shadowstep and then..a clone. that was a trick out of his wife's book. how did he learn that...before he was brought down to his knees, before reaching back and grabbing the boys wrist and using his same swing momentum to fling him out around front of him and into the dirt as he got himself up, hefting his sword.
"So you are not your father's student as much as one might think."
Getting himself up quick enough, and firing another blast of the smiting magic...but not at his enemy, at the ground in front of him. the impact shot dirt straight into his face and around him in a cloud...and then he came rushing through it, sword swinging and ready to use his shoulder to throw the younger elf to the ground again.
She glanced at Zahara, and frowned a bit.
"I'm watching the younger one. my husband in the elf in gold, and he's a bit...zealous when dealing with things that have to do with his pride and personal honor. I am hoping he'll not injure the boy too badly, I don't want that. I worry that whatever it is that drives that boy will push him into doing something everyone will regret."
Malik kept her hand, and gave her a small grin.
"see. sometime illusion tricks work well. Our son is no pushover."
Though looking back, adn then glancing at the younger girl.
"you seem a bit overly worried. he'll be fine, I can assure you."
