"Good on both counts."
though he let his son play with his hair and squirm, but he wasn't getting away.
"Zykariel's former instructor has just about won his competition, though I dare say it's a bit of an unfair advantage. Conjuration studies seem pretty rare, and very few study it wholeheartedly enough to really compete on his level. So he's getting some extra supplies for Malikhai."
"Oh and you missed some poor woman take a flight without the use of landing pads or wings."
Onyx perked up, though went into half dazed purring mode at all the attention. curse his father for letting her learn all teh petting and scratching spots. made him look like a big pet.
The woman slapped her husband on the shoulder, and gave him a look before he rolled his eyes and nodded lightly. not that she hit anything but armor, but the point got across.
"Now then. if you need to sell it to live, then what about your parents? how did they afford to get you those batons if twenty-five steel is worth selling a trophy you risked serious injury for?"
Her voice was soothing and soft, though hsi counter balanced that with a bit more authoritive or gruff tone to it.
"Not to mention signign the forms to allow you to participate. if you need money, work for it doing things you can. you don't sell things like that."

He merely followed along after her, letting her carve a path through people that he could follow. She seemed to know how to navigate it all somewhat, where he was likely to start physically removing people from his way. Besides, he was probably too busy glancing around in paranoid fashion to all that was around him than actually focusing on walking. But Sevilin seemed quite surprised at how she started things, "We haven't had any time since before we got here." At least he was always honest with her, not that he liked to think this was going to be one of those conversations. Maybe she knew that he had left the inn in the dead of night the previous evening and was upset? "Fair I suppose. I don't ask much of it." Strange conversation of sorts indeed. "...You?" Was he even supposed to ask?
"If someone's going to enter into magics, they have to be prepared for things they have never seen anywhere else before. It's just something that's expected or at least I think it should be so. Magic is like that in every form it takes." Giving Onyx reprieve of her hand for the time being. "Feel better now Onyx?" Another light giggle and she looked to her husband. "Everything okay down there with him? Go to give him a final pep talk and the like?"
He set on a stern look that spoke of a child trying to be brave and act like he was bigger than he really was. Even if his arm ruined the look. "You say that like I go around picking people's pockets and mugging others and forging all sorts of papers." That one had a bad attitude, at least the woman was speaking to him in a nicer fashion. Mykorian was a child after all, "My parents didn't get them for me, I got them on my own. And somtimes, you gotta do things you just don't wanna do. Like sell your prize."

Thus brought on the frustration she usually felt when it came to such things. He never really opened without a bit of nagging and feeling like she was forcing him to. Fair wasn't really a good estimation since it didn't tell her if he was happy or not. She considered it inuition of sorts but something wasn't right, perhaps it was boredom or irritation but it was something. "What does that mean? Is that in regards to work? Our family?" Then deciding to lead by example, she turned to look at him. "Quite well. I worry a little more than I should about all of the kids but they're growing up well I think. Oh, I decided to take that part time position as teaching assistant, did I tell you that?"

"Much."
Though his attention was duly turned to the magical competitions. a wizards duel complete with fireballs and ice flows and all sorts of magical goodness.
Malik nodded a bit.
"We had a talk. I'm having a sword and shield brought for him."
Though he seemed a bit distracted, and his eyes siad something was going on he was keeping carefully concealed from the bonds between himself and piper
No sooner had the words left malik's mouth, than a gnome wandered down into the martial tournament waitng areas, a stone golem carrying a sword and shield.
"Special delivery for Malikhai D'vinn!"
The gnome was overly cheerful, as usual, and had a medal to help with that. of course once he found him, he popped him in the back of the knee.
"One B'riaraos Defender, and one Blade of the Bixies."
The shield was uniquely shaped, much like a cartoon bomb. a large oval middle that had a huge gem in the center, surrounded by smaller ones, and then to fins toward the top, that could help guard but also be used for offensive shield strikes. the sword was a gold hilted katana, the blade had a mirror polish look to it.
He was about to retort, when his wife gave him the look. so he simply turned his back and continued to watch the magical events, while she gently took the boy aside to an out of the way place.
"You don't have anyone waiting at a home for you, do you. that's why your trying to work injured and sell your prize you worked so hard for. not to mention if I'd heard my son was injured like you were I'd have been here taking care of you. that's what mothers do. now. if you need something to eat or some extra money, I can give you some, if you'll do a favor for me."

Apparently, he had given a bad answer or at least one that didn't contain enough information. "Work is a tad stressful maybe, then again unknown things usually are but I'm managing." Watching over hsi shoulder for a moment for perhaps an unhealthy length of time before a hand reached up to brush over his cheek where there was a faint mark an indentaion in the skin. "Family life...well to be honest, it's rough. Just right now it is though." Looking off again in no particular direction before blinking back to her and maybe walking a bit closer. "Just the part time assisstant? You're not going to go back like you were before?" News to him.
"Good." Tough she wasn't fooled easily and had been doing this bond sharing thing a lot longer than he had. There were still ripples despite his trying...tiny almost unnoticible rippples but they were there. Only way he could completely put her in the dark would be to cut her off completely and she doubted he knew better than to garner even more suspicion with that act. But...she was trying not to worry. Malik wouldn't hide anyting extremely important from her. "Well, suppose then all we can do is sit back and wait to see our son try to prove his own merit in his fighting skills. I'm still not going to be able to watch him joust..."
A look down at the pop he got, why was everyone doing that to him today, and gave a nod, taking said items from the gnome. "Thanks. Will come in handy." Not that he was planning on using that shield too much, not that anyone else had to be privy to that information. But he made a good show of intending to use it and the like. "Tell dad thanks...and congrats on your own win." The ambitions of a teenager, looking to take tournament champion on his first try. Oh to be a teenager and feel invinvible.
He frowned, but he didn't admit anything out loud. He didn't need anyone's pity. Now, no one liked charity but he wasn't stupid enough to turn down free food and money. Besides, as she said 'if he did a favor' and that technically meant that he would be doing on errand and even errand boys got paid for running menial tasks. "What do you want me to do?"

She'd known it, told herself she was wrong but emotions didn't lie and after you'd lived with someone for a little over fifteen years, you learned things about them. Of course that was nothing in eleven time but still. "Why?" Then a pause and she stopped walking and crossed her arms. "You're not happy." She gazed off in the other direction for a moment trying to reconcile that discovery with what it meant for the rest of the family. Him not being happy affected them all, especially if he decided to act on that in an unfavorable way. "I don't have anything to do with Kel. I was going to see if Piper wouldn't mind watching him for a few hours a day while I help out a bit but I can't take a full time position until Kel is in school."

"Why? Why what? Why things have been rough?" Almost running her damn over as she stopped in her tracks and he had to quickly apply his own breaks to keep from trampling her. "I didn't say I was unhappy. I am happy." Again glancing about in that odd fashion, bringing a hand up to rub at the back of his neck. "Is it that odd that I feel that way? Things haven't exactly been easy lately nor that personable." But he tilted his head at her explaination about her own job. "Why can't you just leave him at Twilight all day? It's not like he wouldn't have anyone to play with and he would be watched. That's what they have a well equipped nursery for." She just wouldn't let go of that baby. Another suspicious glance elsewhere. "Can we please, not continue this conversation in the middle of a crowd." Stressing words to get it across that he wasn't exactly asking.

The gnome gave a shrug.
"Not enough competition. one of you elves needs to put down the sword and pick up the staff. I don't live forever, and I want someone to take up my trade to teh wonderful world of conjuration and summoning and bring it's glory to the next generation, you know."
but a wave and he went to do whatever it was gnomes did. probably gather weird items and try to tinker them into useful gadgets.
Malik gave a nod.
"And pray his head overrides his ego."
That was said more to himself, he couldn't help it. but then a glance at her.
"You say that, but I know you will. you'll watch it becuase you won't be able to stand not watching it and wondering what's going on and torturing yourself with image of maybes."
She gave him a smile and a nod.
"The girl you faced in the ending of the youth magic tournament, I want you to find her, and give her a note from me. Her family seems close to another one that I have some questions about that it's better my husband not get involved with. after that, if you'd like, you can help take care of wildfire. that's his horse. she's tame and gentle, probably just needs a brushing down. do these for me, and I'll give you generous compensation."
The illusionist walked out onto the field, facing her enemy. she was wearing more clothing now, a full light blue robe, and her staff had been swapped out for one with a cobra head that was actually moving on it's own. Or she would have been, had her opponent been on the field.
Which got a herald searching for her competition. and once they were found, they sent the herald back with a shake of his head a few words for the ones in charge. which made the illusionist smirk in an annoyed fashion. apparently the person had been a close friend to her previous match, and had forfit.
Onyx hissed and threw an emtpy cup at the field.
"Come on! why would people enter a tourney and not compete!"

Malikhai rolled his eyes, gnomes. "There are plenty of elves that use staves, you're just too busy tinkering with your gadgets to see that." Giving a smile in good nature, the picking game already old and familiar between them. But it was back to merely hanging around until such a thing came about. He was getting impatient now in his waiting though. Waiting meant you could get anxious and that was the last thing that he wanted to be right now. Wanted to get in there and channel all those jitters into his blade and take on the competition.
A raised eyebrow at his statement, but then again young teenage boys were cocky...especially when they got the chance to show off as her eldest son was soon to do. Momentary attention dropped to her youngest who was apparently searching her pockets now. Pushing his hands away, she fished out a little bag that she knew he was looking for and handed it to him, the child duly pulling it open and taking to nibbling on the various dried fruit chips that were in the bag. "Is that a hint of concern in your voice. I thought when this sort of thing came around you would be all forward march and thus about it with him." And a swat at Onyx. "Don't throw things down there...you say you want to watch action, and yet you're holding it up by making them need to clean the field. See, you should think about these things." Shaking her head and slanting a look to Malik, "Okay...so I'll be forced to watch, you just have to keep me from getting upset. Honestly come on now, I don't like the thought of you jousting, let alone him. Already I'm trying not to think: impaled on lance...."
He nodded and promptly waited to be handed the note. Shouldn't be too hard to find her, and well hopefully she wouldn't recognize him and think it was coincidense and nothing more. "Alright, I'll get to it." Giving a grin of some sorts and slinging his backpack over his good shoulder, batons tucked in and the note in his hand, he scurried himself off into the crowds and the like. Eventually he just gained himself some height by climbing the support pole of a vendor stand to get a better look. There. Dropping down he unslung his arm, perhaps to try and make himself look a little less like whom she knew, though his arm was held in half supportive fashion. "Hey!" Catching up to her. "Hey...I have something for you from someone."

"you can't be impaled normally you know. the lances are blunted. I was an exception because that human cheated. I don't think they'll allow that kind of slip up again."
Though a slight grin as his house member got a forfit win.
"Careful Onyx. she might take that as a personal challenge."
Before taking a moment to look over at his wife.
"If I tell you something, do you promise not to go running down there, and promise not to be angry enough to cause me physical injury?"
Onyx glanced back at Malik.
"Point taken."
Then looking over to Piper.
"And it's one cup. not something they are going to stop to clean the field for. You're just being a litterbug exterminator."

Idly, she reached over and snagged his tongue again in her fingers. "Now now, that's no way to speak to a lady. You know, this is really too easy to do to you sometimes." Letting his tongue go once more, much to the muffled giggles of Dhairiss, and giving Onyx a scratch under the chin. "You're just restless because you can't play with the other children." Shaking her head lightly before her attention focused back on Malik. "You of all people should know that extreme force can indeed make blunt objects into deadly weapons as well. Blame my mind and life exposure." Watching him intently for a moment as he had seemed to go rather serious on her. Piper seemed to think about it a moment, though which part of his request gave her pause, that was hers to know. "Since you're having the grace to tell me, I suppose I can promise. What is it?" See, there was always a reason to be worried.

"I know the things that I've been rather concerned about but I don't know your thoughts and feelings on them and I'd like to. You used to be more open with me and now...it's like you don't want me around anymore. You won't talk to me when I ask you to and..." Trailing off for a moment as suspicion entered her voice, "Sevilin why are you so for this full time position?" She did as he asked and moved on, walking past the vendor-like marketplace and off to the side where only an occasional child ran past. "What's going on?"
She was looking for Mykorian and didn't really register that the elf was talking to her until he touched her lightly to grab her attention. Turning around, she frowned. "You do? Who?" Peering at the other elf who had the eyes and hair of a drow but the skin color of a surface elf. What a strange combination to be sure. "And what is it?" Slightly suspicious since she had some of her father's stigma surrounding surface elves in her head. "Who are you?"

He didn't say anything until they were out of the general way and he felt like he could actually breathe and talk at the same time again without passing out. Taking a moment he rubbed at his temples before shifting his weight to one side, turning his eyes to her. "It's not like that...I can barely get any time with you as it is. When you do ask, I don't get a chance to say anything because an interruption suddenly comes to light." It was hard to say while not using the words he wanted to use and not come off as nothing more than a dependent little attention whore. Best to switch the attention to her then.
"I'm for it because I think it would be good for you. Get you away from nothing but kids, horses, and the house all day." Again rubbing a hand over his cheek and lacing his fingers back through his hair in some sort of gesture. "Your life is nothing but sitting at home waiting for something little to call you. You enjoyed getting out every day."
He bit his lip a moment as pain was setting in in his arm now that it wasn't being supported and his shoulder was greatly protesting. "The woman who was entertaining the entrants in the pit during the magic competition. She wanted me to give this not to you so you could give it to your parents." Holding the paper out to her and once she took it, he promptly took hold of his injured arm and cardled it to his chest...it was just too painful to not have it supported. "I didn't read it, she just told me to give it to you." He was surprised though that she didn't recognize him at all...he didn't know whether to be pleased or not about that. "I'm..." Should he give it away? He opened his mouth to give her a response, but was promptly bumped into, his bad arm and shoulder taking the brunt and the pain sent him to his knees, jaw clenched and eyes shut tightly for the moment. Get up, get up and leave.

"Well I know that. but that's what the armor is for."
A slight smirk before a glance out on the field.
"My past. in the form of an elf. apparently one of the contestants in also from Norrath. according to our son's description, and a note that was given to him, He's a Koada'dal that was at Kithcor. and the initials on it give me a near positive identification."
glancing back over at her.
"My first death was at Kithcor, and at his hand. He's here to compete, and I'm not sure to what lengths he'll go concerning our son. or if simple competition is his actual goal here. But he never travels alone. which means his wife is with him. She's an enchantress, like malikhai's magic teacher. I don't know if she's entered the events or not, I can't see faces all that well from here to tell her apart from any other surface elf."
"So, I want to play with the others. damn this restriction. Moonstone is going to hear about it I promise that."
after getting his tongue back again, and noting the 'grownup' conversation turn, turned his attention to the toddler.
"Hey, wanna share those?"

To all of that, she merely drew in a breath and held it a moment before letting out an exasperated sigh of sorts. So..the past was back was it? It always seemed to come back. Licking her lips as if in preparation to say something, she merely dropped her gaze to no particular focus. Processing things really, one hand idly fingering the metal of her collar as usual when she was thinking on something that really required deep thought. The past...it always came back to haunt it seemed, and not just in the form of reverie. "Would he try to hurt him to get at you?" After all, she had been around Norrath's surface breed...that had a sense of honor but at the same time a horrid sense of duty that deemed 'what was needed for the best, was done'. But to go after a child to get at their parent? But she didn't say much more...merely tried to work through it with as little emotion as possible right now.
Kitties ate fruit? This was news to him. Then again...this wasn't the usual kind of kitty...it walked on two legs and had wings. Thusly a look to his bag and it's contents, then a look to Onyx and blue tipped fingers dug arond in the bag a moment before a little elven sized handful was held out to Onyx. "You gotta suck on them so they set soft. Taste better that way." Of course he didn't know that dried and sugared things were good for cats...but the draithix back home liked it and they made kitty noises.
