"Or it could just start out that way and end much more positively. Things change you know. But yes, you seem so...I don't know. Hopeless maybe? Or that's not even the right word for it." She closed her eyes as he kissed the top of her head and then shrugged. "I'm not really sure. Tomorrow or the day after I believe. Intending to watch?" asked casually as if the answer didn't really matter even though they both knew it did. Looking back to her youngest, she frowned. "Kelligrin, don't eat that."

Glancing up from Destyny's grooming, he saw his friend coming and gave a whistle. "Look at you all decked out in your finery. Kaelin's going to be very impressed. Just don't turn yourself purple. Grapes are not as attractive as blueberries." Giving a grin to that and once again dragging the brush down the horse's coat. Then frowning as he noted a particular look in his friend's eye. "Uh-oh, you've got the 'it's time to talk business' look again. What is it this time?"

"Things change, one of the many phrases you've picked up from Silverfeather." Hm, it was a last name day too was it? Perhaps it was the potiential exposure to crowds on mass scale that made his mood shift to something less personable. "Hopeless? Quite the adjective, though I suppose I may come off as such. I'll settle for stoic today." Yes...his mood was certinally off for some reason. But a light nod, "Perhaps I will. If I don't find a lead early on..." As if giving himself an excuse just in case. Not that he didn't like to watch, it was the fact that the races were almost like an enemy to which his son was siding with. But a look to Kel also, who was trying to eat a feather quill from the ink set that sat on the side table. "I sure do hope that phase ends soon...maybe when he starts walking."

Still half pondering what he had learned earlier, his look perhaps did portray what his friend was claiming. But a slight smirk and shake of his head. "Have to look good for opening ceremonies, yes? And not too much business. I have your papers to turn in and your entry fee. Have you been to check out the track and all or know of anyone else that's competing?"

"We're proof enough. I tend to go with what's been proven to be true." But she gave a nod and glanced out the window, watching the people mill about. "Stoic...that's probably the adjective I was looking for. Competitions don't really excite you. Then again not much does anymore." Giving him a grin, "Except for me and the kids. I don't think we ever fail to amuse you in some way or another." She sighed as the child reached again adn left her husband's side, picking the child up. "No Kelligrin. We only put food in our mouths and that's not food. She ran her fingers lightly through his soft hair and then settled him on her lap wiht a brush to braid it. "It's that lovely exploratory phase. Toddlers learning their world through taste and touch." Tickling the baby to get him to giggle. "Probably. Though I'm a little worried about that. The others were moving at a faster pace developmentally than he is."

"Normal wannabes and such that won't be too hard to beat. There's a few that will provide decent competition from glancing over the lists but they are trying to get more competitors. Hoping to make this one of the biggest races ever run in the Underdark and that can spell disaster just from the sheer volume of horses and such. Destyny has been getting restless lately too, which I don't think is a good thing. She's too young to start foaling but I think her mind is drifting in that direction." Petting the mare lightly and letting her nuzzle him. "I haven't looked at the track yet. Was just heading that way actually. Care to come?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 07, 2007 5:02 pm

"I didn't deny that it happened, only the you're using her words. Usually you find joy in coming up with your own and then making sure everyone catches on to what they mean." Giving a light shrug, "Competitions in my time were for survival, not for fun. You didn't prove yourself in the ring and you were bested and delivered into the hands of death. I personally can find no joy in them." Shakin his head and watching her go tend to the child whom was trying to eat things. "You all are pretty much the central point of my life, you should amuse me. And I wouldn't be worried...he just needs a little more individual attention. I try to get him to walk as often as I can. What he lacks in walking, he certinally makes up for in throwing."

"Race isn't here in deepwater is it? Seems like an awful lot of trouble, what with the only avliable space being city streets and the docks. Unless everyone is fitted with shoes there's no water racing. Though that would be a sight to see. When you're old enough, I plan on putting you in that race where it takes a week or two to race and covers the whole of Labyrinth Underdark." Crossing his arms and looking over the horse. "So let the girl have some fun? And yeah, I'll come."

"Good to see you too, Auntie."

A small grin at her dagger, and a sniff at the toddler.

"when did you get another one of these? isn't that supposed to be really hard to do?"

before flaring his wings a little bit and slinking his head over to Dhariss, and purring lightly.

Malik opened the door, still wearing just his loincloth outfit, and had sword in hand...before noticing whom was in the room. well that was a sight.

"when did you get here?"

He was watching from his inn window, and gave a small grin. things were going nicely in the morning. it was being quiet, calm, and with an undercurrent of excitement and even trepidation.

"Are we ready to head out?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 07, 2007 5:49 pm

Onyx was duly conked on the head with the hilt of her dagger. "Onyx! You should know better than to sneak around like that. Also, that's for not visiting you forgetful creature." Gathering her son into her arms and turning him around to face Onyx. "Look now, it's just a big kitty." Her attention turning over to Malik...whom got a smile and a raised eyebrow from her. Well wasn't that a nice sight, but her attention was turned away again to their son as he grabbed her collar trying to find comfort. "Dhairiss it's alright...he was just being a bad kitty, what do we do to bad things?" Triple colored eyes turned back to Onyx, "Two years ago. You call trying for ten years easy? It is hard, in more than just one aspect too."

If he could crawl back inside his mother, he probably would of tried but he was smarter than that, just scared. After all, how often was it that something you had no idea what it was, was poised at the end of your bed waiting as if it was ready to eat you. It was worse than something being under the bed, or crib in his case. And he duly pressed back into his mother when she had turned him around, big eyes looking to his father in frightened fashion when he made an appearance. "Daddy!" Though he was listening to his mother and as Onyx lowered his head...he got smacked on the nose because that's what you did to the bad animals, at least to the Draithix that roamed the house.

"I'm not feeling creative enough this morning. Between trying to keep from squashing Kelligrin as much as he moved and listening for anything strange, reverie was rather difficult for me." She agreed with him totally, the very reason why she wasn't too thrilled with her children competing in any sense of the word. Also the reason why the tournament wasn't a big deal to her, at least until her daughter decided to test her skills in it. "Me neither which is why I don't understand why Malik is pushing it so much. And why Faate wants to play either, but I suppose that's a different matter altogether." Lifting the baby so he was standing on her legs, she held his wrists gently and bounced him. "We'll get you walking in no time, won't we? But you're right. He's got aim like no one I've ever seen. Well, except for you or I though I doubt we had it at that young of an age." Setting the child on the floor in the same walking position. "I guess this is one of those be patient and wait for things to happen in due time lessons, hmm?"

Zykariel frowned for a moment, "I'm not really sure. I know the general direction the track is going to be in but I haven't quite figured out if it's on the outskirts or actually in the city itself. We've raced in cities before though it tends to be a well planned event, not a last minute priority like this one seems to be." Tossing the brush aside, he saddled Destyny and then hopped up on her back and chuckling. "Old enough. The funny thing is, I'm older than you."

He was contemplative for a moment before he shook his head. "She'll be out for an entire racing season if we do that and I don't want to let it happen too soon. If we have at least one other horse capable of racing, we won't lose anything. And if we go outside our mother's hoard, then we've got to pay stud fees. If we let her choose within, we have to watch mingling bloodlines and such. These things are important to racing standards. You can mention it to your mom and see if she has any she'd like to offer, though."
PostPosted: Fri Sep 07, 2007 7:14 pm

Onyx snorted and rubbed his nose and his head, before looking at the other parent dressed in less than his father normally would wear.

"Well...I came for tournament, so here I am. as for not visiting, we've been quite busy surfaceside. it's habitable, but we're working hard to keep it that way. nothing was alive. so we're having to work with druids and such to bring back the life, so to speak. Moonstone has been calling on animal spirits, I've been working with lesser imps and such to sow the world back to life with druidic and arcanely created and crafted seeds and such."

Malik set his blade down, and glanced at his wife.

"Opening will be soon, I think. then you'll get to be a worried mother...have you seen either of the boys? I haven't seen them around this morning, and I don't know where exactly the racing stuff is so I haven't been able to find either of them."

He and his wife were walking through the crowds, getting read yo take thier respective places in thier chosen areas to be ready for opening announcements and ceremonies, though he was a bit curious as to the blue youth's choices. His wife was being friendly to lower tiers of competition as she saw them, and offering support and advice to those that were worried or overdoing thier studies. after all, it was friendly competition, nevermind how the sword and spear boys wanted to be.

"Well...if you didn't roll..." Picking at her lightly before he crouched down to be closer to the floor, holding out a hand to his son and hoping the boy would at least try to walk toward him to take the outstretched hand. "We lived in a different world. We've never known a tournament for just fune. To us, or at least me, to be in the ring was proving your worth even if you didn't want to." Giving a little hand motion to his son, trying to coax him. "These days, it's all show. Besides, Faate is away from the sharp pointy things at least."

"Yeah you are, but you're still not old enough for that race. Though I bet I could get you in with special permission." Giving a laugh. "You don't have to let her foal, just have her fun. You don't want to do it because you may not be happy with another horse and then you'll have to take off racing for a year. Right?" Both of them heading off into the crowd. Wasn't too hard to find information and since he was a manager he was privy to such things as track layout maps and the like. "It's a spiral track. Awesome. See, you start here on the docks and you run the city streets in circular manner toward the tournament grounds actually. Three laps in tournament pit and that finishes it off. Hm...wonder if we can find short cuts within legal means." Blinking. "What time is it? We don't want to miss opening ceremonies."

"So happy to know you appreciate that surface that I busted myself to give you." Getting up with Dhairiss and setting him on the floor so that she could go about getting ready for the day, stopping by Malik and brushing a kiss over his cheek before she went about getting dressed for the day. When she was ready, it was back to the menfolk. "I haven't, but I'm sure they have linkstones on them. And I know the racing, don't worry we'll cross paths with them if they're there. You need some clothes A'mael, much as the view is appreaciated." Scooping Dhariss up and dressing him as well. "Why don't you introduce yourself dear? You know how."

He was quite now fascinated with Onyx now that he had 'tamed' him so to speak. So he was more or less staring at Onyx for the whole duration of his mother and himself getting dressed and ready for the day, trying to figure the creature out. A nibble at his lip and the fidgeting of blue tipped fingers before a nod and he looked up to Onyx again. "Mm, I'm Dhairiss D'vinn..." And cue hiding behind our fingers.

"He rolls as much as I do." snapping back though not in irritation since she knew she rolled. It drove Sevilin crazy and half the time she was afraid he was going to rune her in place. "It wasn't any different for me. Especially being where my family was on Lloth's ladder of prosperity and cruelty." Shuddering at that for a moment before she gently pried her son's hands off her own and let him stand on his own two feet. "Go on baby, walk to Daddy." Then a glance at Sevilin. "And that is the only reason I'm letting her compete. Sharp pointy objects are a definite no."

"Daddy." Kelligrin watched his father for a moment, lifting the plastic cup he had and chewing on it for a moment before reaching out for him with a laugh and moving to take the step. He glanced back at his mother at the last moment, causing him to lose his balance and fall on his face. His cup went rolling and he immediately started to cry.

"That's exactly right. There's no guarantees she won't foal if she does have her fun and if she has it once she may want it again and again. Mom hasn't developed a powder yet for horses though she's working on it, I have no doubt." Petting at Destyny for a moment before he listened to the track layout and then scanned over it. "That's not bad at all. There are always back alleys and such that are faster because they aren't overcrowded." Glancing over to the tournament grounds. "I think you're still alright though we should probably head that way sooner rather than later."

Malik did get himself dressed, though he opted to wear half plate over his right arm and his plate greaves. gave him that look of he might compete, he might not. before glancing back at the rest of them.

"then tell him that he needs to start making his way to the tournament grounds. they'll be starting soon enough. Also, tell him to get his horse stabled, I'll get him armored for the jousting later. I don't trust human hands on that nightmare. he's still quite touchy."

Onyx grinned at the toddler, which of course bared slight fangs.

"Well hello there, little Dhairiss D'vinn. I'm Onyx. You're mom was like a sister to my father, so she's like an aunt to me. speaking of which. we got a delivery for Piper. Dad sent you some arrowheads and feathers, and he sent you some suede leather."

He was the stables, looking over the white mare that he rode. she was sacred, a gift from the Mother of All herself. she couldn't planes travel or the like..but she could run or walk on water. pure white, her mane and coloring, white sky-blue eyes and silvered hooves. He liked to call her wildfire. her armoring was near done, and it was all in gold, that went well with her coloring.

His wife was practicing her magics in the training and waiting areas, mostly amusing younger people with enchantment displays and color clouds and the like.

"Yes, but you're bigger than he is. And at least you women had the choice of being spared. Win or die was our regiment." It was odd to talk about such old things. Tournaments brought up odd emotions and old memories for him he supposed. Wish he had known that before hand. But there was nothing that could be done now but to go on with it. "She's not trained enough to deal with both magic and weapons aside from a staff. The girl is looking to be a Rune Mage. Weapons are always second thought." Giving a sigh as Kel tried, but didn't manage too far. Getting up he walked over and scooped the baby up, soothing his tears. "Have to pay attention when you try new things Kel."

"See, I knew it. Long as you can race you don't have to worry about other things. But hey, procrastination is a gods send sometimes so why not indulge in the funnest way possible, right?" Giving a nod as he and his partner in crime talked track business. "True, but I'll have to find out what are in track parameters to take otherwise you're cheating and disqualified. They really do watch the tracks carefully with city races." Giving his friend a nod before whistling to bring Kerick to him and he mounted up, both of them riding over to the tournamnet grounds proper and the stables "Getting busy already. You stabling Destyny up? Looks like they have other race horses here. That's what the blue marker on stable gates is."

Just for the fun of it and because she knew it also amused Malik to no end, he was proud when his sons started to 'grow up', she put Dhairsiss' own little bracers nad greeves back on. She herself was going partly casual today, bringing in the leather on top of regular clothing and the chain mail, leave the rest of the armor here for now. "You know your oldest Malik, he's never late for anything unless he's snuck out the night before. And he was here all night." But a light laugh, "I dare say that attractive fatherly flare is about you again." And then an apprciative noise as her attention turned back to Onyx as she picked up Dhairiss. "I do so love your father Onyx, maybe I'll stop by and see him...when I don't have little elves that fuss if I go away." Malikhai was still hesitant to let her go anywhere far away due to that surface gaining excursion.

He was still watching Onyx but still wasn't quite sure if he liked him or not. He was furry and kitty like, but he was also quite large...way bigger than mommy anyway. But a little nod to the information that was being given. "Like Aunt Zahara." That made sense to him, okay got it. But he was still overly large and had fangs. A look over to Malik and grabby hands. "Daddy..."

Zahara nodded and watched their son, then slipped off the bed and picked up his cup. Refilling it with the juice he'd more or less finished off, she handed it to him and brushed her fingers through his hair. "You'll get it. Takes time, baby." Glancing outside again, she let Sevilin handle Kelligrin and walked into the adjoining room. "Come on girls. Tournament starts shortly. Lyssie! Get up." She gave an encouraging smile to her daughter and gently closed the books. "You know everything you need, Faatallon. Trust yourself and just remember, win or lose, Daddy and I love you the same and we're still proud of you. I only try to stop you from doing things because I worry not because you can't do them."

Faate looked a little sick to her stomach but she looked up at her mother and nodded. "I know that." Giving her mother a hug, she slipped off her bed and moved into her parent's bedroom. Waiting for Kel's tears to die down, she tugged on her father's braid to get his attention. Scuffing the toe of her boot into the wood, she glanced up. "Daddy, I need you to lock down my runes. I'm afraid I'll try and use them."

"You have a tournament and jousting to worry about, Khai. Leave the racing details and tidbits to me. I have my own little spies who can tell me everything I need to know, don't worry." He clapped his friend on an armored shoulder and then nodded. "She has to be examined by the racing counsel. If she passes, they'll notify me that I can race since you paid my fees and turned in my papers. If not, then she'll be brought to me at some point or I'll have to go get her. I don't see that as a problem though."

Thus settling Destyny in and signing the papers he was asked to. Care of horses was an important thing after all. Thus gesturing to the tourney grounds. "Can't put it off anymore. You sword fighting or jousting first?"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 08, 2007 2:41 pm

Malik walked over to Piper, and picked up Dhairiss from her.

"Everything is fine. Onyx isn't going to do anything."

though glancing between Onyx and Piper.

"I'm sure we could convince them to let you have some time there. Malikhai and myself can watch Dhairiss I'm sure. And we better be heading out, you coming with, Onyx? or are you going to go terrorize someone else for a bit?
"

Onyx shrugged lightly.

"I'll tag along. though father is getting old. past his prime at least, but he's still hunting, and he's still playing teacher to whatever new generation comes by. usually it's a certain elf and his egyptian goddess."

though a mussing of Piper's hair.

"Of course we appreciate all your hard work. we have to or else a certain someone would be raising hordes of undead armies to make us appreciative."

And it was back to parenting. A smile was give to his daugher though and he brushed a hand through her hair, giving her a light smile. "Okay, you're going to feel a little sick and drained for a few minutes, but it's all surperficial okay? You're just as charged and magically able as ever." Thusly brushing her bangs from her forehead and scribing a rune there, letting it acticvate and effectively lock down her own inner runing abilities. Wrapping an arm around her shoulders to keep her steady just in case, he waited for his wife to finish with their other one. "Alright, we're ready to go."

"Right right, put my head in the game." A pat to his sword at his side and he gave a nod to his friend. "Sword is first and the like, but only after the younger age group competitions go off. I'm not in any of those since I'm listed in the main tournament. I can relax a little bit. You going to go get a seat with the family or play big shot to your friends and a host of girls?" PAtting at Kerick though a light sideglance to the obnoxious glint of highly polished gold armor of someone else.

And cling to daddy. "He's big." And when you were small as he was and there was something bigger around than you were used to, you didn't enjoy such things around your or your mother. Oh no, what if he got hungry and ate mommy! The draithix bit and such too and they were the housepets. "What do winged kitties eat?" Blinking imploringly up at his father for his answers. Quite rattled by things his head was making up.

An rather surprised look to Malik, yet at the same time she noted his particular wording. She could go see Cymarron, but Cymarron wasn't coming here, let alone around his sons is what he was really saying. Not that she blamed him. "Leave my men home alone? I fear you'd tax the help beyond sanity." Giving a chuckle before a smike to Onyx, slapping at his hand as he messed up her hair. "Hey, you have no idea how long it takes these days to make my hair reasonable, don't mess it up or I'll pluck feathers. And past his prime maybe, but I'm sure as enthusiastic about certain things as ever. Come on then, I'm not having a shoddy seat."
