Terryn looked between Marcus and his grandmother, an eyebrow raised. She leaned over and whispered in his ear. "Is she always like this?"

"Always. If you interrupt her during one of her weaker points, she'll usually break," Marcus advised, still keeping his eyes fixed on his grandmother. "I'm waiting for one, you see."

Terryn nodded. "Rather intriguing." It was sort of like a small game, looking for her weak spot. It made the whole rant a little more bearable.

"Well, Gran, societal positions are nothing to be questioned," Marcus said hastily, before she could build herself up again. "I mean, you said so yourself. Surely is no different."
The Duchess blinked, and drew herself up. "Well, yes. I suppose so. Still a disgrace, but..."
"But nothing," chided Marcus, looking sideways at Terryn. "It's custom."

Terryn stayed silent, deciding to let the professional do his job. She was enjoying herself just listening to it all.

It didn't take long for Gran to nod and reluctantly admit that Marcus did have a point, and she excused herself to go have some tea. Marcus gave Terryn a lopsided grin. "I must say, that was a personal best. Usually it takes at least fifteen minutes. I think I've managed it in just under ten this time."

Terryn shook her head. "How could I compete when I am supposed to be the prize?" She blinked innocently, trying her best not to grin at him.

Terryn narrowed her eyes, slapping him playfully on the face. "You are awful, you know." She crossed her arms over her chest, looking pointedly away from him.

Marcus chuckled. "Why should I? It's clear that you don't," he said, setting his chin on her shoulder and looking sideways at her, grinning. "As much as you would like to."
