He blinked at his wife. "Okay?" He wasn't sure how else to answer after all, he didn't frequent the races and he didn't know what was normal what wasn't. That was all Piper's domain as far as he cared, she was the whole race lord or whatever they wanted to call her. "So then this means what should happen now?" Blinking at the track and watching what was going on still...and there, see. That was one of those things he kept talking about, the boy falling off his horse and something potientially bad happening and then what if he couldn't race anymore?
"Only popular by association to friend and family, nothing really more to hold over anyone's heads." A blink at the track though and then the happenings. "No...nonono." Oh great this was bad, especially with Zykariel off his horse...after all, they put a lot on this one nad it was going to be hell if he lost his money, let alone may have to pay up to others. "Sure isn't supposed to happen. Come on Zykariel...get yourself together and get back in the race..." Well, okay standing closer now was good seeing as the vantage point was better indeed. "Hm, pretty...well, nice to meet you Kaelin. And if you would, it's just Malikhai." Turning his eyes back to the track...hm, since when did mom start spicing up her tracks? Let alone this track...this was a rather basic track, beginners favored it.
"I never saw you charm a single woman in all our time together. Not even when you had customers about. Though if you want to think you have it, then please do go on. It's cute to an extent if not amusing." Patting his thigh with a laugh, she was indeed living up this moment, but hse was also listening to what was going on around her, after all this was one of her tracks and well...when things happened on her tracks or thier grounds, it usually came back to her. Usually in the form of paperwork but she was in attendence today. "A'mael...you did tell officials to warn racers that there would be track changes, yes?" Probably not, it wasn't Malik's style.

"You do realize what this means, don't you?" Of course he didn't. He wasn't race savvy in the least. "Best we can hope for if Zykariel loses is that they null the race and do it again. Someone's bound to cry foul and if they don't then dammit, I will." Crap, bad word all over again. She really had to stop that or Sevilin was going to beat her with her own spoon. He was serious about his kids not cursing, especially at young ages. She stood up, glancing out and trying to find her son. Destyny burst through the trees a moment later and she nearly passed out. "Where's Zykariel?" Worried mom voice coming out once again. "Where is he?"
He knew he didn't have a whole lot of time to play. His body had taken nearly as much training as Destyny had just in case. He ducked an underlying branch and kept running. He had to catch up to his horse and get back on, then finish the damn race. His legs were pumping and he was breathing about as heavily as he possibly could. He slipped out through the trees and finally caught sight of his horse. Putting on a burst of speed, he raced up behind her and leapt onto his horse. She reared for a moment, flame hooves beating wildly at the air before she dropped down and raced on.
"Alright girl, we've got to race like we've never done before." He gave her a pat and then let her go, refusing to pull back on the reins at all. Usually he kept her back not allowing her to run nearly as fast as she wanted to but not this time. She soared ahead passing the others and Zykariel caught sight of the finish line. She jumped over a smaller hill and a moment later he crossed the finish line. He'd won.
She was watching just like he was and her hands came together happily. "There he is! And he's back on his horse, too!" She watched Zykariel take the race back with nothing less than awe. Most racers would have been done the moment they fell off their horses. A few already had and weren't going to be crossing the finish line. "He won, Malikhai! Congratulations!" She turned and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "You deserve it." And then she turned and disappeared into the crowd, already anticipating what was going to happen.
Zykariel shrugged off the others for a moment and strolled over to Malikhai. "What the ******** was that, Khai? The rumors were not about the damn track changing in the middle. Someone could have easily been killed." No, he was not pleased. "Did your mother have something to do with this or is she pissed too?"

"I told them they were allowed to spread a rumor to the effect there would be track changes, but not specific. that way certain people can't plan ahead or around it."
though a glance to Zahara, and a slight smirk at Zykariel. he'd still managed the win..but he woudl probably think twice before racing so quickly into things again. But Malik got up, and walked down by Malikhai.
"Seems your racer has managed to pull another win. congrats. Now I think you'd best take care of panicing Zahara before anything else. and you and I are going to have a small chat later. nothing serious, I promise."

And Zahara was upset, not his life was going to be a little harder because of that fact. Mostly because she took it out on the nearest competent person, which happened to be him. But a look and then gesture back to the track. "See, he's fine." Yup...he was damn fine and a winner, which would only boost his little ego. Yeah just what he needed. Shaking his head though he pat lightly at Kelligrin's hair before looking to Zahara. "Well, going to go hug on him and make sure he's okay?"
"That's my boy!" After all, it was hard to recover and still win...usually when you fell off the horse, most couldn't get back on but not his racer. Nope. Do anything to win that was short of cheating. Though he blinked for a moment as he got a kiss to the cheek, which produced a someone goofy grin before he watched her walk off and then his attention turned to Zykariel. "I don't know, didn't hear too much about that sort of thing. And not as far as I know, the officials would of said something if she had done something like that. Right?" Before his attention turned to his father, "He always wins, I don't put my money to just anyone but someone I know does enough to win. And yeah Zy, you may want to let your mother know you're in one piece." Slightly weary blink to his father about that chat mention.
He was still latched to his father, quite happy and showing it with fidgety actions and happy noises, what with all the excitment about and well...he didn't know that Zykariel had won, but he got the general happy idea from those around him and he knew someone had won something or other. "What do we win?"
She shook her head...well it would probably be best to n** this problem before it ever started, as Zahara had said someone may be quick to jump a gun. So since Malik had the boys at present, it would just be better if she slipped down and see if the officials had anything to day about this all, and if so if she could fix all that with all the wonderful influence she pulled. Was her track after all.

The officials were indeed talking amongst themselves, locating the one who had been talked to by Malik. The head was none too pleased though she straightened slightly when Piper came down. "Lady D'vinn, I apologize for what happened on the track. I had no idea such a thing was going to be occurring, but I will see to it that it doesn't happen again." She glanced at the official and shook her head. "Apparently Lord D'vinn mentioned such a thing and one of our newer officials took it upon himself to make such a thing happen. If the racers feel it was unfair, would you have us redo the race or leave the results as is?"
Another popped up and shook his head. "There shouldn't be an issue. The boy who did win fell under the same conditions as everyone else and even lost his seat briefly. He managed to regain not only his seat but his standing in the race as well. Thusly, I believe all was fair and the race should stand as is."
She wrapped an arm around Sevilin's waist and shook her head. "No, he's well enough. He can walk and aside from a few scrapes and such, he looks just fine. I'd rather let him celebrate his win without me." She reached over and took her younger son, nuzzling him lightly before just leaning against him. "You are proud of him, though right?"
He watched Piper talk to the officials and nodded. "One would think, but that was more stimulating than they usually are so I'm not horribly opposed to it. I'm certainly not going to say anything, not that it would matter. I could take it either way. Others may complain in which case I'd be just fine racing again." He glanced up at his mother and raised a hand to her to let her know he was fine. "She can see me. Besides I saw you and that girl together in the stands." Nudging his friend and quirking an eyebrow. He wanted all the info.

Malik smirked lightly at the boy.
"Sometimes, Zykariel...a race is not just about you and the horse. don't think that neglecting other studies for racing is always going to be the best course."
and decided to go to his wife and the officials.
"So, what's the news?"

She had long ago learned to be used to the shows of respect she had both earned and made for herself. Thusly she merely put on an aminiable smile and put on the 'I'm listening' face as well. "Ah, so that's what all that was about. Quite surprised I must admit, such things usually come to my door in the form of approval paperwork. But as any woman I do love a surprise or two." Turning a look for a moment to Malik before back to the officials. "Well, let's look at it this way...all the racers were equally surprised and they all proved who was up for the challenge and who wasn't. A good racer is prepared for anything, even unannounced track changes of such a magnitude. It would be unfair to redo the race on the word of one racer whom felt the change was unfair. He may just want a redo to try and better his own score, even if he had done just fine the first time around. How does that all sound?"
And just like that the scared mother in her was diffused. Sometimes that was an absolutely great thing now wasn't it? He sighed lightly and shook his head while merely plopping an arm around her shoulders in return gesture. "Proud? Yes of course. After all, how many men can catch up to thier horses and continue on without being phased. It's a good quality to have, be it in a racer or in one of another way of life."
"Well...seems like you enjoyed it either way. Was a good show you put on there, had be worried that we were going to be losing quite the payoff and that wasn't going to be fun at all. I had put a lot down on this one. And well, speaking of which, how about we go collect, shall we?" Giving a blink as then it seemed hsi friend wanted to know other things as well and he gave a casual shrug. "She just came over and sat with me, and then we moved to get a closer look at the track and I got a kiss on the cheek. Oh and her name is Kaelin."

The head official nodded, following the very same train of thought. She gave a nod to Malik and then shooed the others away. "Go attend to the winner. He deserves his reward." Thus back to Piper. "I agree totally, Lady D'vinn. In the future though, I must ask you Lord D'vinn, please refrain from doing such things without proper announcements being made beforehand. While it may seem to be a good idea and certainly creates entertainment that draws others to the tracks, it is far more trouble than it is worth."
Malik got a strange look for a moment. That was suspiciously close to what his father was forever saying. But ignoring it for a moment, Zykariel plopped an arm across his friend's shoulder and chuckled. "Very good, Malikhai. You're doing just fine in the girl department. Now just make sure you return the interest and you'll be in." Noticing that they were being beckoned, he jerked his head and strolled over. Being congratulated was nice though it did go on for several minutes. He spoke with the officials, assuring them that the track change was fine and then hopped back up on Destyny and rode before the stands in the normal routine. Hopping back off, he fed Destyny a cube of sugar and took the two bags of steel. "Half and half, just like always." Handing one bag off to Malikhai. "Thanks for coming. Now, go find your girl and invite her out to celebrate with us. I have some other business to take care of."
She jiggled her son gently and listened to him giggle then nodded. "He did very well, didn't he? Chose a good path and almost lost the race but got it all back." She sighed softly and nuzzled her son. "Come on baby. It's time for you to go back with Aunt Piper and Mommy and Daddy to go home." Lowering her voice as she stepped down. "Mommy has some apologizing to do to Daddy." She listened to Kelligrin babble for a moment and then tickled him. "Daddy has some apologizing to do as well." Catching sight of her son, she gave him a wave and grinned. "Congratulations Kariel. You ran a fantastic race. You had me scared there for a moment when you fell but you got right back up like any good racer should."
"Learned it from you, Mom." He gave his mother a smile and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "Dad came too?" Ruffling his brother's hair for a moment, he let his mother go off to do what she needed to do and headed for the stands. Settling beside his father for a moment, he nodded. "Thanks for coming. Even though I know you only did because Mom made you and you'd like to get some tonight and not have her mad at you anymore. Still, thanks." Hell, why was it so hard to talk to his father these days?
Zahara eyed the group talking over her son's future and his winnings as well. She wasn't stupid, she knew Piper had to take care of official business. Amusing her son for a moment, she let him pet at Destyny and kept watch over her son's prize horse until Piper was done. Then she'd hand over her son just like she was supposed to but for now she was going to take all the time she was being allowed with her baby.

"that defeats the purpose. unless you want to make incredibly complicated tracks that require someone to have knowledge in other things besides racing. the impromptu changes force one to rely on his own brain rather than the muscle of his horse. I don't mind thier being an announcment of track changes, but I'd prefer they be as ambiguous as possible."
bouncing his son a bit his his arms.
"your big brother earned some money and a date I think."
a glance at Piper.
"He got a kiss on the cheek. now lets see if he has the courage to ask her out to do something..like celebrate the recent victory."

She gave a nod to both official and her husband. "Alright, duly noted. Announcements to be made, but to be kept as ambiguous as possible, that way we all get our surprised and entertainment. Agreed? Wonderful. Now then, I do believe we all have a victor to attend to yes?" Taking Malik's arm then and more or less pulling him away, tickling at her son's stomach a moment before looking back to her husband. "I don't think it would be the asking that would be hard, but the time that would follow that would be the difficult part. I still remember when you were bad at such things." Giving a laugh at that, after all Malik hand't known how to deal with a woman like herself when she had come along. Metting up with Zahara then and holding her hands out. "Okay, I want that back now."
"I wanna earn some money and a date!" Not that he really knew what date meant seeing as it was one of those words that had two meanings, he just wanted to do what his brother was doing because well, it meant attention and a lot of fun. "How does that happen?"
Taking his own bag, he tied it to his belt with a chuckle and clapped his friend on the back. "I always come, I'm your manager." Before a blink then as his friend was already mentioning plans for later. But he had planned on studying and his swordplay. Not to mention his magic teachers were probably wanting to run him ragged again. "Er...um, sure...I mean if I can find her. She kinda meandered off with all her friends and stuff. Though I'm sure she'll be in that little group that you always draw after a win." Maybe...he still wasn't so sure about this girl thing.
Left in the stands, wasn't that a great thing. This racing thing could just get worse in his opinion, after all with his new plush ego what was he supposed to do other than keep at it. But his attention turned up to his son, whom promptly sat down and went about telling him what was what and so on and so forth. Wow, kid was blunt. "I did not come because I'd 'like to get some tonight'." And that was about as far as he had thought to go, idly he clasped his hands before looking to the boy again. "You did good though in your recovery. Most would of just thrown in the towel."

"Changes will be made to the track at random but we will keep the announcements ambiguous. Very well, if that is what you wish Lady D'vinn."
Zahara was tickling his tummy and listening to him giggle though she turned back to Piper with a raise of her eyebrow. "I think I object to you calling my son an it, Piper. And that means you can't have him." Nuzzling her son again and playing with him. She gave him a grin and then hugged him tightly before handing him over. "Take care of him for me, Piper. So what's the deal with the race?"
Zykariel turned to his father and quirked an eyebrow but merely chuckled and left it alone. "Whatever." Yeah, it was hard for them to talk now. He nodded. "Yeah well, I couldn't let Malikhai lose his money. He puts a lot out so I can race and that would be no way to repay him." Leaning back in the seat for a moment as he glanced down at the others milling about. "Besides I'm an Inthara. Weren't you always the one pounding it in that we don't quit?"

"when your older you can do the date thing. money you might be able to earn a little sooner than that."
though his attention moved to the others, and a glance at Sevilin, a hand resting on his blade.
the boy did well...but there are other surprises in store. he'll learn that his studies are valuable.

Okay so whatever this date thing was he was going to get to do it when he was older and bigger. Okay he could deal with that. Unlike his older brother at this age, he was rather patient and easy going, more content to let things come to him rather than go after things for the time being. "What do I gotta do for that?" Money, there was an interesting concept.
"Just changes to spice up the track a little for experienced riders. Someone just forgot to make an annoucement to said riders before hand. Minor track communication trouble is all." Piper gave a dismissive wave. "Oh stop it you know I mean it with the utmost love and nothing else." Hugging the child as he was given back over before settling him on her hip. Hey if she wasn't going to be helped in having anymore of her own, she was glad that Zahara was still having them. "Am I harboring the others as well?"
He lightly shook his head at the voice that popped into it. You know, he still wasn't used to that yet and Malik did it almost constantly. To air he nodded inconspicuously before returning his attention to his son. See, even when he tried to give the boy some praise he didn't take it. Was discouraging. "A D'vinn could do well to lose some steel from time to time, not that it would matter much to them." Idly he tapped his fingers on his knee for a breif moment before he smiled. "I wouldn't call it pounding it into you all, but yes you have it right. An Inthara never quits, why do so when you know you can keep going. Right?"

She was quiet for a moment, glancing up at the stands to check out what Sevilin was doing. Seeing him in conversation with his son stopped her for a moment and she shrugged. "I really don't know. I told you that would be a good idea, now I'm not so sure. Sevilin and I got into it again over Zykariel and racing. We fought, he headed off and then I made him come. It's not really a great environment to plan a romantic night in." She sighed and reached out, fixing her son's braid. "I know he has a point, I just can't bring myself to admit that he's not trying to sabotage the child. Isn't that wrong?"
"Malikhai doesn't have nearly enough fun with his steel. He hoards it like someone else I know." Giving a grin to his father for a moment before propping one boot on his knee and leaning back all casual like. "Winning is much more fun anyway." His gaze moved along the crowd, trying to find his best friend. Malikhai had better be trying to find that girl of his. "It was pretty interesting that the track suddenly changed though. I wonder why they randomly decided to do that." A shake of his head. "Mom freaked, didn't she?"
Kaelin? She was leaning against one of her friends, barely paying any attentoin to the conversation that was currently going on. Half of them were talking about Zykariel and the various celebration methods he usually employed. She sighed softly, getting bored and shrugged at her friend's question as to whether she was coming or not. "I don't know. I was kind of thinking just taking a walk..."

Malik also was thinking along the same lines as Zykariel concerning his son. Come now a good looking elven woman like that he wasn't, or better not be passing her by. which ment a little mental nudging to go find her and invite her out to celebrate...before looking at his youngest son. Idea.
"You have to help me. you remember that girl that your older brother was sitting with?"
