"Oh, not a problem, Tohru-san," Yumeko said finally. "The maid's quarters did want cleaning." She shrugged, mulling it over. "It's not like company sees them, anyway." She set down her bucket in the closet. "I could probably start on lunch," she commented, already seeking out rice. "A celebratory meal, indeed." She looked at Tohru for a moment, trying to seek out any physical difference between the pre and post maiko Tohru. None that she could see, although she supposed her hairstyle and dress might change in the very near future. How quickly things changed in the geisha's residence! ((Post number 23. "Would you like some help, Yumeko-san?" Tohru asked walking over and pulling up the sleeves of her yukata. "I like to cook...if that's all right with you..." Tohru thought for a moment and added, "Please call me Tohru-chan. I don't think we don't far about in age. I'm only 16 after all."

"Help is more than acceptable," Yumeko said, smiling at Tohru. "All right, I'll call you Tohru-chan, on only one condition." She poured the rice into the water to boil and got out some noodles. "Is soba okay?" she inquired of the group at large, diverting her attention from the meal she was preparing. ((Post number 24.))

Tohru smiled and nodded. "That sounds great. What would you like me to do to help you with your meal?" she asked and then paused. "And what's the condition for you to call me Tohru-chan?"

"Call me Yumeko-chan," said Yumeko sweetly. "It's only fair. That's your condition." She put the noodles in another pot, along with some broth. "Will you slice up some vegetables, please?" she asked Tohru. "Whatever you think. I trust your judgement after that stew last night." She gave the rice a quick stir and turned down the heat a little, scraping the bottom of the pan with her wooden spoon. ((Post number 25.))

Tohru smiled, "All right, Yumeko-chan." She took out the cutting board and started slicing vegetables and started adding them to the pot while Yumeko stirred.
"Yumeko-chan, how old are you?" Tohru while walking over to get out some salt. She walked back over and placed it by the pot.

"I thought you'd come around," Yumeko said, picking up the rice pot and draining it into the sink. "How old am I? Fourteen," she said, automatically preparing for the response of oh-I-thought-you-were-younger that always drove her mad. To deflect it, at least for a moment, she looked into the pot of noodles. "Those look tasty," she said, surveying the vegetables. "I'll make some onigiri now." ((Post number 26.))

"I'm surprised...I thought you were at least 15," Tohru said surprised. She then stirred the noodles and added a tiny bit of salt, stirring them in.
"I like you onigiri... they're small and cute. My mother used to tell me that making them small was the best way to make them."

"Because it makes it look like there are more?" Yumeko remembered her mother telling her something similar. "My little brother tells me that it's easier to fit them in your mouth that way. I guess I'm used to hearing it from my family, too." She fell silent for a moment. "You thought I was fifteen? That's rare." Yumeko couldn't help but be pleased that someone didn't think her to be twelve. She loaded her onigiri onto a platter. "Here, let's taste those noodles. They smell like they should be done soon." ((W00t!))
Tohru blinked twice amazing. "That's rare? How old do people usually think you are?" Tohru asked curious. She walked over to the pot and stirred and then took a taste. She thought for a moment and added a pinch more salt. She stirred and then tasted again. "Tell me what you think," she said holding out the spoon to Yumeko.

"Phwee?" Yumeko looked dazed for a moment. "What did you say?" She had heard it perfectly well, just needed a confirmation. A maiko! Ha! Wasn't that amazing. Already she had outstripped what her okaa-san had expected of her. She was thrilled, but, in normal fashion for herself, Yumeko didn't jump up and down but took out a clean spoon and dipped it into the broth, catching a noodle and tipping it into her mouth. "Well, lunch is ready," she said, smiling widely. "And so am I!" She looked at Tora, hardly believing her good luck. "Are you now my onii-chan, Tora-sama?" she asked, needing another repeat rather desperately. "Oh!" she said, snapping back to Tohru. "Usually about twelve, actually. It's because I'm so short." She shrugged, looking down. "I guess that's the good part of being a geisha. Kimonos fit everyone, don't they?" Going back into one of her typical non-sequiters, she repeated, "Lunch is done."

Tohru smiled happily. She held back this time, not allowing herself to explode and embarrass herself. "I'm so happy for you Yumeko-chan! Now we can take classes together!" Tohru exclaimed happily.
She took out bowls and poured some of the noddles for herself, Yumeko and Tora, setting them on the table with some cold tea.

Yumeko sat down next to Tohru at the table, still in a little bit of a daze. "Yes. What classes are you taking?" she inquired, mulling over the subjects she knew that geisha took. Dance, she knew, and hopefully there was a class for poise. Yumeko knew that she needed it in abundance, remembering to stand up and get her tray of rice balls. "There, balanced lunch," she said gleefully, taking up a spoonful of soup.

Omny walked down the halls and saw the two girls, only by chance she over heard that the another girl became a maiko. She sighed and began her climb to the rooth top where she could get her thoughts strait. For some reason she always thought clearly under the sky.
