"Right then. I suppose we should tell the children to come in?" The earl glanced out into the garden, not seeing any sign of his daughter or soon to be son-in-law. "They would probably fall asleep out there if we let them."

The Duchess nodded, craning her neck to see them. But it appeared that they had vanished. She beckoned for the earl to follow her, and exited into the garden, keeping her hem raised. She did not have any real fondness for the garden, what with all the dirt everywhere.

"If I know my daughter, they will be by the roses." At least the earl was still aware of that fact. As they rounded the corner, the earl smiled to himself and whispered. "See, I told you. Left alone to her own devices, Terryn always gravitates to the rose bushes."

"And the same for Marcus," the Duchess answered, trying to look disapproving at the pair. Marcus's mouth was hanging open slightly, but they still looked the very portrait of young love. She sighed. "Should we wake them now?"

The earl sighed. "Seems a pity to wake them now that they are so peacefully sleeping." He glanced up at the sky, a calm expression on his face. "It does not appear as though it will rain."

The Duchess nodded and led the way back into the house. Marcus was actually behaving, for once, and she wasn't entirely sure what to make of it. He most definitely had not just been in Russia. Of that much, she was sure.

When Terryn woke up the next morning, she was rather chilly. Normally, the fire in her room as stoked by now but it felt as though she was..."Outside?" She blinked, rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she glanced around the garden.

Marcus mumbled something about land deeds, and he tightened his grip around Terryn. But he was still fast asleep, and rather comfortable.

Terryn glanced up at Marcus, smiling to herself as she remembered the previous day. She glanced at her ring finger, half surprised to see that the ring was actually there and she hadn't dreamed it.

The Duchess hadn't been able to sleep. She didn't know why. She felt perfectly calm and composed, but something was gnawing away at her mind. That boy was never going to give her peace, would he?

The earl, meanwhile, had dreamed rather peaceful things all night. And, seeing as how Serina had unexpectedly left again to her hot springs, he wasn't being woken up all night by her snores.

The first thing that Marcus saw was Terryn, and he smiled when he remembered that he would have the rest of his life to wake up by her. "Morning," he yawned, stretching his arms out.

"Actually, early afternoon judging by the sun's position." Terryn glanced at the sundial nearby, which marked the time as just past high noon. "Have a nice rest?"

"Very nice," answered Marcus, leaning forward and kissing her mechanically. "How long have you been awake?" he asked, turning and stretching his back now.

Terryn shrugged. "Only a moment." She sat up and arched her back, yawning as she stretched her arms over her head. "I am surprised we were not woken last night."
