Yes, to sum it up good and bad always ends up an opinion.
GamesWorkshop calls the Tau "the good guys," however that is just their label.

There is no true good guys.
Also, I really would hate to see the Tau make a major impact on the Imperium, because honestly it isn't possible, however since the whole thing is fiction you never know what GW will decide to pull.

True it will never happen, a Full scale Tau invasion of Imperial space, if it did happen would be more like a nee trying to kill a heard of elephants. Their entire military force of the Tau couldn't challenged the Imperium.
After they tried whatever areas they took would be severely overrun in just a matter of weeks or days, then a counter invasion or another crusade would be launched against their home planet. Now that there military was crippled from the failed invasion of Imperial Space, what was left would be swept aside and their space would be taken over and logged as recaptured. It's just not going to happen, you don't invade an enemy that can muster more forces on just a few planets then your entire galactic strength.

your forgetting that the tau could beat the imperium bloody in space if they built a Ship around a spinal mounted rail gun. (find a ferrous meteor and use that as ammo). one hit kills against any thing. (rail gun muzzle velocity = .5c or so so an object that large would be like you running into a brick wall at 300 miles an hour). The only problem would be the nessecity for huge capacitor rings.

But you are forgetting that the Imperium has been in space a lot longer then the Tau. Their ships usually are bigger and stronger. Making one powerful ship on the tau side will not win the war. Especially since a rail gun that large would take some time to charge before it was able to be used. You also have to think since it is firing a solid object, would it be able to run down the void shields? Of course it would take the shield out in one shot but, would the shell be able to have enough velocity to do any damage? Or would it stop at the shield and require you to fire another round?

You are also forgetting the Imperial navy beats out the Tau navy any day of the week, with more experienced crews, and a lot more ships. Most of them are bigger, much bigger. The fact is the Tau are nowhere near strong enough to be considered a major threat to the Imperium.

They don't even have warp travel so moving for them is really slow.

Try not to bring real theorized sience into warhammer....that doesn't work out either.

For instance, If I were a space marine Commander with enough ships in my fleet, I would use warp travel to go directly to my enemies home world, surround it using the ability to teleport out of the warp, and then just open fire....bye, bye.

But then if GW did have this in there stories....well then they would be Extremely short stories, and they would be boring....hence why GW wouldn't have the Tau build something like that....it would take away from story, fun, and the whole Aspect of the game now wouldn't it? wink

So if you want to find out who would win....then play the game for yourself.

Ah, that doesn't really work either. Some models can be mis-represented from fluff to game in a major way.

I hate saying it, but in any case of major change, were forced to leave the decisions to the guys at Games Workshop.

Ahhem, do i have to get into this tau VS Imperium discusion too?

Ooo, and a topic that just sparked my attention. I would love to see a rail gun that big and fired at something with a void shield. Becuase, if i remember right from the fluff from some where i read, Those void shields can stop almost anything. So... a Rail gun that masive of a size shooting at an imperium main/flag/what ever ship will do 1 of 2 things. 1, based on shield physics, will have the shield generater ripped out of the a** end of the ship on impact, or it would take the kenetic energy from the meteor and fly away at the same velocity halved. 2, Or the metiorite would disentigrate on impact...

Ooo, the only way a tau ship could beat an intire imperium in a ship battle... Hmm... a space colony about the size of terra, with more rail guns mounted on it then i care to talk about, and that is more then about 100,000,000... But even so, a nice energy beam from a newly developed imperium destroyer would be able to take it out in a mere second... After charging up of course... Gomenasai.... I love space ships and physics dealing with them... Course, this is a theory that would only be implied if the imperium began a new golden age.

Im sure there will be a new emporer sooner or later, becuase if i remember correctly, the emproer was a just a mere man with vast psykic powers ney(Right)? It was just an evolved man, so therefor whats not to say it can't happen again?

Yes, well it would be pretty nasty if all of that did happen, however that is pretty farfetched.

I really don't see it.

It's an easily endable (is that a word?) feud.
If you honestly think that the Tau empire could overthrow the Imperium, you are mixing love for your army with reality, or your insane. Believe it or not I am not anksting on the Tau here (for once) I am just being completely honest.

All though that may be blunt, there is no point continueing when my only counter point is this...
Not going to happen. Sorry.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 10, 2006 9:48 pm

Ahhem, sorry, i am insane and due to the statistics, i do not belive that the tau could overthrow the imperium...ever. It is just fun to talk about. The only one that could stand a chance in defeating the imperium is the chaos space marines, seriosly thinking about it. So what race is in the lead for the medusa V campain?

Definitely, the Chaos Space Marines pose a major threat to the imperium at all points in time.

All though they are out manned, out gunned, and are just beat in every manner possible, they have their disease like spread of chaos, that if not tamed can destroy the Imperium in itself.
That is why such extreme precautions are taken (such as Exterminatus) to rid the Imperium of such catostrophic plagues.

FYI guys I will be gone till Monday, I'm going to white sandy beaches with family and friends. mrgreen cool

Ok this smacks of Gundam wing. It's the space cannon barge all over !!! Good idea but not a Tau-ish weapon.

Alright I'm in this debate to, I play Marines and Tau both. We all have codex's right ??? Ok well, those of you who have Tau codex's and think they have a chance please note the magnification box around the Damocles gulf then.... look at the rest of the galaxy. The Imperium is over a million worlds strong. Each planet give or take has it's own imperial guard regiment. Some even have chapter of marines. There are said to be 1,000 chapters each consisting of 1,000 Marines. That would be a million marines. Can the Tau even effect the Imperium ? I think not. it's a nice thought but no. The Tau are however closer to being good guys then other armies. They are not good per say, but they are the lesser of many evils.

In my personal opinion the Tau and the Imperium have stuff in common but the Imperium is being stubborn. in truth, the tau could work with the Imperium and call the greater good the Emperor or vice versa, I think that would be cool. On a normal happen stance the enemies of the Imperium are the enemies of the Tau too. :: shrug:: That just my thoughts on the subject.
