Hato walked into the dojo and looked to see if anyone was really doing anything, and when he saw that there was a large amount of inactivity in the building, he simply walked past the main room to the back, where the hot springs were located.
*Okay, if I want to truly perfect my genjutsu skills, I need to learn how to defend from it as well as use it.*
Hato had to visualize his chakra system, as if someone had just cast a genjutsu on him, and he had to get out of it. He had read many books in the Oto libraries and knew that he had to somehow cut off the circulation in his chakra system so that he could better see a genjutsu. As the first attempt, he knew that it would be hard to do, and he was right. Finding the chakra system immensely complicated, Hato failed to comprehend where to even try to stimulate it.

He drew some chakra around his feet and walked one time across the short hot springs, and then tried to focus on the area in his chakra system that had just expelled that energy.
He felt the energy leave, but he had no idea how to break it off.
*Darn, guess my theory was wrong.*

Hato was feeling disheartened, his abilities proving mediocre, if not completely terrible. His past failures were depressing him, and for the third time, he tried and failed to stimulate and break the chakra flowing within him.
*What am I not getting?*
He sat down for a moment and rested, meditating on how to do this.

Hato thought of himself as pathetic. How would he ever amount to anything higher than chuunin if he couldn't learn how to block and defend against a genjutsu. Once again, he tried to feel the flowing of chakra within him, and once again, he failed to notice anything different.

Hato felt as big a loser as the loner in a big crowd. He knew that if he stuck to his practices, he would get it, but he felt that he would never get it.
He tried exerting chakra to sense a place where he could break the flow, and he thought that when using his feet, it didn't work, so he exerted some out of his hands. He felt the energy release into the air as nothing could conduct the pure chakra energy, but once again he only felt the energy leaving, and didn't know where to possibly begin to break the flow.

After using his feet and his hands with neither working, Hato tried not exerting chakra, but simply trying to feel it inside of him.
*What is this feeling?*
Hato felt excited, as he finally got something that might help him understand and perfect this jutsu training. He felt the energy moving around his body faster than lightning, and it was powerful. Trying to tap into it, he imagined pinching a nerve to stop the blood flowing, and instantly he felt a change in his chakra reserves as they seemed to stop.
*Yes!*

Feeling a little better about his own competence, Hato tried searching for that same sense of power over his own chakra system.
To no avail, it just didn't come back to him, and he felt like a failure all over again. Although he had failed again, he knew that he couldn't possibly fail for the rest of the day, so he just kept at it, keeping his confidence high.

Seemingly hit and miss, Hato tried to reach deep within himself, looking for the trigger that would cause him to feel the circulation of his own chakra. Curiously, he thought back to the first time he felt himself break the flow, and tried to remember what he was doing that might've allowed him to achieve the focus to stimulate himself.
Surprisingly, before he had any coherent thoughts put together of the details of the past success, he found it again.
*Finally, I'm getting somewhere.*
He broke the chakra ties for just another moment, and felt satisfied with his progress.

Feeling more confident, Hato tried to do the technique on instinct alone, but failed miserably as he stood focusing with no results.

Focusing even harder, again on no particular thing, Hato tried releasing his chakra flow. With the same failing result, he was confused as to how he did it earlier. Hato knew that if he had done it twice already, it would only take a little longer to do it, and master the true technique of it.

Hato felt his chakra slowly draining away, even though he wasn't even using that much of it.
*Ugh, this will take too much time.*
He knew that if he didn't master the technique soon, he would have to come back tomorrow and try again and again. Better to train it out now, in 1 sitting, rather than over the course of many days.
