Avatar, the last air bender movie review/rant.
When this movie was first announced I was excited, could it be a movie about this obviously epic series?! Then I saw the director and dread filled my mind... I KNEW he would butcher it, I just knew it... however once I saw the trailers I was a bit more optomistic. Hell, he even got the writers of the original story on board to help out, then I thought he just might pull this off.... well.... I was wrong... horribly... horribly wrong.
WARNING SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT, HIGHLIGHT TO READ:
Now given, the movie covered all of the major plot points from the season 1... but that was the problem. It covered SO MUCH that most of the fluff that made scenes emotional was left out...
For example, in the show when they arrive in the northern water tribe Saka builds a relationship with the princess who was given life by the moon spirit whilst Ang and Katara try to find a teacher and master water bending.
This whole process that took about 2 episodes of plot is crammed down your throat in about 3 seconds (I'm not exaggerating, they used a voice over of Katara explaining a huge chunk of time they decide to skip).
This wouldn't be so bad... but it seems to happen about every minute or so where plot is just skipped to the ending that's supposed to be emotional... but without the buildup it's not.
It's like waiting to see a hot new sports car released, and all you get is a blurry 190mph view of it as it zooms by you. Anyone that hasn't seen the show will have no clue what the hell is going on, while those that have will wonder why all the tear jerking or epic moments flat-line do to the lack of any sort of in between.
M-Night, please hang up your coat.... I liked Sixth Sense and Unbreakable... but now you're just butchering everything you look at.

Yeah, me and my gf have had mixed feelings about what we've seen of the movie... One of our early concerns was the casting... I mean, seriously, the kid who does Aang looked kinda short and pudgy, and incapable of being funny. Katara and Sokka looked way too white for Eskimos and Zaka is Indian or something (to match that pasty white skin he's supposed to have...) and... HOLD UP that isnt fire nation armor!This guys doin it right....sigh... I'm still going to see it, but now that i know the plot is going to hurt, it feels almost hopeless...

Katara and Sokka looked way too white for Eskimos and Zaka is Indian or something (to match that pasty white skin he's supposed to have...) and... As far as Ethnicity goes the world of Avatar isn't the world we're in soooo technically speaking they're not really eskimos. It's kinda like how people complained that Goku wasn't asian in the dragon ball movie.... when in the show Goku still wasn't asain, he was Sayajin lol. Anyways the plot actually is pretty much spot on with the show (just VERYYYY ******** RUSHED), the only real thing they change is that "only" absolute masters of fire bending can create fire with their hands, otherwise they need a source to manipulate (like every other bender).

True for the water tribe, not so much for everyone else as they where a bit less generic. As for the fire nation armor it looks pretty similar to me:  and the helmets are spot on albiet without the cartoony flair. The only difference is they're not single tone colors, they're more realistic which is kind of unavoidable unless you want it to also look like a b movie. Again for me the movie could have been great if they had taken there time instead of rushing content so fast that it had no meaning.

And the bad part is that M.Night Shyamalan is planning on making the other 2 books, and books 2 and 3 have ALOT of side stories(Jet, The Earth Kingdom Coup, The Boiling Rock, Suki, etc.) If he messes up the sequels, i'm going on a Shyamalan crusade scream

Unless they've already spent all the money and made the other 2 I doubt they'll see the light of day.
This got lower reviews than McGruber, hell it got worse reviews than the DRAGONBALL movie... that's.... that's a bit undeserved but still, almost deserved.
