Fight child logic with child logic, it was a very good strategy he had to admit. But a small chuckle and a pat to the child's back before rubbing his back slightly in comfort. No the child didn't like those conditions at all now did he? "No, you don't have to do it to my stanards, but you have to at least do an acceptable job...jumping in and right back out doesn't count."
"Um...well if we're making something ourselves, then we only know how to make one thing...kinda." INdeed, he'd only made that one particular dish with his father, and didn't know what else his father could indeed make. "Mmm...something that's not gonna upset her tummy. No one likes that." Speaking from personal experience there. "And it's gotta have cinnamon in it too."
Piper sighed lightly, grabbing the bottle of wine Malik had left behind and filled her glass up, taking a sip from it before kicking down the covers in the bed and slipping inbetween the soft silky sheets. Oh gods was that ever a luxury she missed. A small smile before she settled herself back against pillows with her wine...ah comfort.

"I know alot more than just one dish. but lets see your right. it needs cinnamon. mom hasn't had some of that in a long time, has she. So..."
picking his son up and setting him on the counter.
"Lets make her some cinnamon sticky buns, something I learned from the place I met your mother on, and we'll make her something nice to eat too. I'm thinking lobster, with scalloped potatoes. would you like to help with that? you start this pot boiling, and then cut the potatoes into thin disks while I get the ingredients for the sticky buns, alright?"

He listened with the attention of a diligent student enthralled by a lesson from a teacher would listen. And then a smile and a nod of his head in agreement. "Yes." And he plopped down off the counter, pushing a chair over to it for easier access, then went and fetched a pot, up in the chair to fill it with water then pushing it across the counter and onto the stove, which he left for daddy to turn on, then he hopped down again and went about gathering the various other ingrediants he knew they needed, bringing them back to the counter one by one and piling them up there. So then, onto washing potatoes so they could be cut and such. And of course casual conversation time. "Can I train Yinn like a falcon?" He'd read up on that, so he knew what he was saying...was in one of grandpa's journals that had been left.

Malik started up the water, and grabbed the lobster and put it in the sink. probably twice the size of a surface variety, and looked a lot meaner. even the coloring was more like stone than anything else.
"And where would you find the time for that? between sword lessons, magic lessons, and your regular studies? Training any animal to act in certain ways takes a lot of patience, time, and hard work. You've seen mom and Zahara and the bruises they get from training the horses. and they don't have venomous claws."
"to train Yinn like that, you'd have to take his boots off. he wouldn't be able to function properly for that kind of training with them on, and that means extra careful attention would be needed."
Of course once the water boiled..in went the lobster with that little screech they all give. then on to getting the dough, layering it in cinnamon and icing, and rolling it on it's side and putting more icing and cinnamon on it. then repeating that for three more, and putting them in the oven to bake.
"I'll bet you three steel that says your mom comes down here before they are done when she smells the cinnamon in the air."

"I'm an elf, there's plenty of time." Hey look he was starting to get that concept. "That's what I meant...you know, like teach him to wear his boots around me, but then not wear his boots when he goes places, so that way no one has to worry about his stuff." Yinn was already quite smart and knew how to do a few tricks, Malikhai was just cocerned about the paw part. A little scrunch of his nose at the noise made by lobsters before quietly watching his father once more. "But I don't have any steel to bet with..." Slightly upset face...after all how was he to play when he didn't have any steel?

"Good point."
So digging around in his pocket, and handing his son over twelve steel pieces.
"there, now you have steel. though I wouldn't bet against your father on this one. the wager woudl be if mom came down, I win, and if she didn't, you'd win. but we both know once that cinnamon scent gets in there air she'll be here."
A small smile.
"We can teach Yinn that without too much training I'd imagine."

Look at that, free currency. Pity he wasn't old enough to understand the wonderful oxymoron that was. But he took the handed over metal disks, counting them in his palm. Wow he got a whole twelve! That was exciting wasn't it? Very. A grin up to his father and he gave a skeptical look. "I don't think so daddy. Mommy looked really really tired...and there's cinnamon in her pillow. I found it there." Yup, Piper had cinnamon sticks stashed in her pillow. "So then, I think it's you who shouldn't be betting against me daddy." Looking oh so confident too before plopping steel into his vest pocket and crossing his arms lightly over his chest like daddy did many a time. "Zahara said she'd ask if he could get some boots just for him."

"Is that so?"
a little smirk there.
"Alright then, your on. I'll wager three steel against yours that says mom will come down once the aroma of those sticky buns gets in the air."
laying three steel on the table, and then nodding to his son.
"We have a fine tailor, I'm sure he can come up with something that will work for Yinn's claws."
Of course by now, he was getting the lobster out of the boiling water, all steelblue looking, since his original color had been a blue gray, and putting it on a plate and getting the potatoes that his son and cut and putting on the sauce for them and arranging them aroudn the lobster with some regular fluffy rolls.
"Think it needs anything more?"
and yes, by then the sweet sugary and cinnamonly aroma of freshly baking cinnamon buns was starting to waft through the house.

"I still think you're wrong. She feels tired. You didn't live inside mommy." Him basically saying that he was a bit more in tune with his mother than Malik was...which could of been true in it's own right, seeing as the circumstances under which thier bond was forged. Or maybe small elves were instinctually tuned in deeper to thier mothers. But okay, he put his three steel down and merely watched his father go about arranging things since he wasn't allowed to touch hot stuff. May hurt himself. But to make himself useful, he fetched some silverware and a napkin, toddling back over to the table. "She's not down yet." Sing song tone, speaking of his cockiness in being in the right currently.

"hey the scent just got into the air. and thier not done baking yet, so don't you get too cocky there."
a light smirk and setting the plate on the table for now, letting hsi son do the table settings.
"And I know she's tired. but I know the lure of cinnamon is powerful. she'll come down...even if only to grab the plates and take them back upstairs."
yeah, about another fifteen minutes and they'd be prime for scent. then another three and they'd be done.

"We'll see." Was all he said. Wasn't he being the cutest little gambler someone had ever seen? He certinally had his father's cockiness about him if anything. Like father like son was certinally a term that was applicable here. Though of course, he was thinking hard as he could in his head to mommy to tell her not to come down because he wanted to br right. "Why would you make her walk just because of a bed when you know she's tired?" Wasn't that impressive as well, he could connect things.
And upstairs...Piper was horribly amused as she was lounging in bed. Why was she so amused? Because she heard those little thoughts from her son...which meant the boy was a natural telepath just like she was...hopefully his wasn't crippled like hers was. "What do you know, he's a telepath..." Another amused chuckle because yes, the cinnamon radar was going off...but she was behaving herself just to please the child.

a raised eyebrow. what was amusing his wife so. and his son was awfully confident. click. little devil was telepathic like his mother.
"Well, she needs to get around some anyway, and I'm sure Zykariel would like to see her and maybe sevilin. after all I think he owes her at least a thanks for her hard work."
walking over to the oven, and throwing on a healthy handful of cinnamon. yeah lets really up the aroma there. nto to mention he'd underdone the cinammon anyway. lot seemed to be burned away into the dough and he wanted some still layered in the icing.
"though, I do see the point, she is tired so she might not, but that's part of gambling, not knowing the outcome."

"She can do that tomorrow." After all, he understood how tired mommy probably was, just as Malik did...the woman had been gone for a while and on the constant go, of course she needed her time to recouperate. And he was going to help daddy all he could with that too. "Zykariel earns his own steel, but he doesn't gamble for it." Malikhai of course didn't get monetary incentive for his chores, he just knew he was to do them or mommy and daddy wouldn't be too happy. Meandering around behind his father some as he moved around the kitchen. "When do all the people leave again?" Random question, but he was thinking about reverie arrangements.
He was an evil man even to her when he wanted to be...trying to up the cinnamon, on yes she could indeed smell it...and it was damn right torturous. But because he was being so, she was just going to play hardball. Spoiling her did not include trying to lure her with cinnamon, but being finger snap provisinal with it. Besides, she was hurmoring her son who didn't even know he was telepathic. It was cute, and he'd be excited with winning.

"As soon as magic come fully back into play. then Sevilin can redo his runic wardings and setups. and then everyone will be safe back in their own homes. a rule of thumb for ruling over a land is that there are two ways to do it. through fear and oppression, and fear and benevolence. right now benevolence is working, so we'll keep with it."
well. the cinnamon buns were about done, and no chance of her showing up in the next minute. even if she wanted to, she couldn't make it down that fast in her present condition.
"hmm. they're almost done, and it looks like mom isn't coming down. I blame the wine."
a slight chuckle.
"you won your first bet."

"You left the bottle with her, so doesn't that mean you have to blame yourself." Old enough to know wine did things. He wasn't exactly sure what things, but it did them. But he gave a grin at being told that he won, maybe he'd keep on his winning streak. Though a look over to his father. "Do I gotta give the rest back?" Because he'd been told before, no one just gives you steel, and well...his father had more or less just plopped a bunch in his hands. But over to the table, fully intending to carry mommy's plate all by himself.
