Oh yes, you were the talk of Amsterdam... one hundred and fifty years ago. Not so much, now, but seeing as you're dead and such, that's not a surprise, I trust?

Sir... you haven't gone crazy. You're in The Brink of Time, and it's perfectly real. It isn't a hallucination or anything. ::Nyx paused, looking thoughtful.:: But... uh, I guess there isn't much of a way for me to get you to believe that it isn't just a creation of your mind, is there? Hrm...

*he regards the stragely-dressed girl for a moment. Then, furrows his brow as Cross vanishes.*

I suppose, Child, that you expect me to believe that a dead pirate actually did just speak with me, and then vanished like a puff of smoke?

::She frowned in slight irritation as he reffered to her as "child".::

Well... no. I never expect that of any newcomers. It's all really hard to accept as being real at first...
PostPosted: Tue Nov 09, 2004 4:35 am

*Van der Mullen holds up his hand to ward off the girl's ridiculous tirade*
No. Nevermind... I don't want to hear it! You might as well try to convince me of heaven.

*He tries to read again, but he's lost his focus. With a sigh, he lifts his cane from where it rests at his side and gets to his feet. Gingerly, he walks toward Nyx. :click: :click: :click: :click*

Child, is there brandy in this place?

You should be able to find some behind the bar. Feel free to help yourself to whatever you want...

::She glared at him, quickly becoming annoyed with his attitude.:: My name is Nyx, not 'Child'. Please refrain from calling me that again.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 09, 2004 4:57 am

*He opens his mouth to tell her he'll call her whatever he damned well pleases, but he stops, and heaves a sigh. He hobbles around to the other side of the bar, finds a bottle of brandy and a glass, then hobbles back and sits at the bar a seat away from Nyx. The exertion has exhausted him. He pours himself a glass of brandy and swirls it thoughtfully*

Nyks, eh....? *he says in a much less accusatory tone* The Greek Goddess of Night, daughter of chaos. Is that you?

Of course not. ::She moved back to rest her head on the bar, her expression softening a little.:: I'm pretty far from being a goddess of anything.

I'm just plain old Nyxie...

((am I correct in thinking Nyx looks to be in her teens?))

And I am Johannes Van der Mullen, and I am apparently quite mad.

*he takes a sip of brandy*

Since there's no better way to pass the time, tell me of this place.

((Somewhere around seventeen or eighteen, yeah.))

I don't really know too much of the workings of The Brink, even after appearing here more times than I can count. I do know a little, though. Just the basic stuff... ::She thought for a moment.:: People from all different times are randomly brought here by some unknown force, and they stay here and just hang around until that force decides to let them go back home (actually, they could just use the door to leave, but that's no fun). When they do go back home, they'll find that not even a millisecond has passed since they left. Time... kind of doesn't exist in The Brink.

It's a nice thing, to be without time... It's a good oppurtunity to relax without having to worry about the things in your life. Not for ME anymore, no, but I'm sure it's like that for most others.

*Johannes fingers his pocket watch absently* Time... there's never enough time....

*he scowls and slams his glass down* but if you expect me to believe that ludicrous drivel, you're quite mistaken, Child. This is that fool Kessler's idea! *announces to the room* but I won't have it! I will prove this is all a frau-- *he vanishes mid-word, his letter and waking stick follow in his wake*

**Exit Van der Mullen**

::Nyx sighed and shook her head as he disappeared, standing up.:: You'll come to believe it eventually. It might take a while, but you will... ::She walked off to the rooms area, in desperate need of a rest.::

:::the young officer moved her way into the main room from the hall, a look of utter meloncholy on her face. She looked around and was very dissapointed to see that no one else was there:::

Sigh....

:::She decided to go the bar and try some more wines:::

:::She plopped down, after having grabbed a bottle that said Yellow Tail on it, and poured herself a glass. She was about to take a sip, when suddenly she heard someone enter behind her. She turned to see who it was

But no one was there...:::

:::Her brow furrowed in confusion, and she turned back around to sip her wine:::

:::Not a moment later, she heard movement again. Quick, light, and low to the ground. This was awfully familiar. That little creature! Her head moved from side to side, eyes darting, hoping to catch any sign of movement...when she spotted debris on the floor:::

:::She walked over to look at it, and saw multiple shell-type things on the ground. She picked one up to examine it, while simultaniously speaking into her wrist recording mechanism:::

Specimine - Debris...appears to be very light, though not appearting porous. Fibrous in nature, outter layers seems to have ridges forming an encompassing graph around the shell. Chewed at the edges, broken in half. Empty. Appears to have been a capsule for two small cylindrical to oval objects. Multiple specimines present.

:::She pulled away her wrist, and spoke to herself:::

It looks like this was being eaten...
