Zahara glanced up as Faete returned lugging the two boys as he'd been told. She walked over and carefully dislodged fangs adn teeth to keep tunics from being destroyed then patted the horse and fed him some sugar. She glanced down at her son and his friend and then back at Malik and Sevilin. "Come on boys, let's go back inside and play." Leaning down and picking her own son up to balance him on her hip.
Zykariel was just as unhappy as Malikhai was though he could care less about his clothes. He had another one and that was plenty as long as it didn't get too muddy. But he wasn't happy when his mother announced they were going back inside. "We just got out here and we have to find the treasure." Fussing and squirming in her hold, more or less ready to throw a major fit. "We've been inside studying all day, Mommy! We want to play outside."

Malik looked down at his son, and took a glance at the bug.
"Put that one down. he'll bite and I promise you that you won't like it. not to mention he won't let go easily if he does get you."
glancing at the other child.
"Why don't you play in the stables then. but no leaving it, and I'll have Ramoth and Faete watching you. you cna help Keely with the two new colts. I'm sure thier mother wouldn't mind you taking a look at them, an dhelping clean them up a bit."
looking to Sevilin with a nod.
"that is of course, if Zahara thinks you're good enough to behave outside here and not try to leave the stables."

"But we just got outside." One child almost mimicking the other because of course the complaint was the same. Though a look to Malik as he commented on the bug that he had in had. "But I don't have one li-Yinn!" Said as the little draithix had duely pounced the bug from the boy's hand...and took to eating it. It was cute, but Malikhai lost his bug. Bug loss was forgotten however as his father gave them rules. "But daddy! We've been in the room all day! That's just like being in the room!"
And here it was, the whining and the mini tantrums were started...why did children react as thus when things were changed on them like they were now. Made for some very very fussy nights and high pitched screaming. Excuse? "It's not safe to run around, what with magic on the blink...it's simple as that." His two cents to try and ebb the rising tantrum levels.

Zahara couldn't hold him when he started kicking and she set him back down and nodded. "It's fine with me if they want to play in the stables." Which obviously they didn't. Even the prospect of seeing the new colts wasn't distracting them.
Zykariel crossed his arms and looked at his father. "But there's still the ogres and others around and Khai's head still feels fuzzy sometimes." Because that meant there had to be something going on right? Stubbornly he glared at his parents. "We want to play outside. We didn't even get toys in the big room, just had to study. Now it's playtime and we don't have the nursery anymore and there's nothing else to do!" Stomping his foot for a moment before he changed to pleading and promises. "We promise to be good. Really really good."

Malik looked at both boys, and gave a slightly angry look, the one that said they were pushing his patience.
"Here, let me show you why it's dangerous for you to go outside even with the ogres present without someone able to watch you."
looking around and grabbing a half eaten rat, and opening the stable door and walking out and flinging it randomly onto the ground...and in a few moments a carrion worm had burst out of the ground and consumed it before slinking down below the surface.
"that's why. not everything in the underdrak is big and nasty or crawls above the ground. and they aren't picky. you fall and scrap a knee, and those worms will think your food. with magic suspended, the runes that protected you from things like that isn't working."
then ushering them back in the stables. sure he was exaggerating a bit, but that would get the point across.
"the reason you have to stay upstairs in a room is because I have someone here to see me about some buisness and honestly I don't like him or trust him. and I don't want him to know you guys are here in case he were to try to do something to you."
and a glance to Malikhai.
"And before you mention my study, he works for someone important so I can't keep him down there and do to him what I do to other people I don't like. Now you have two choices. you can go back inside and upstairs. I will have your nursery toys brought to you if you need them. Or, you can stay out here and play and help with the new baby horses. so which one do you want to do."

"Keely could watch us!" But then show and tell...Now, outside was evil...and oh the the fiasco if the child fell and did scrape a knee...and well, since mommy wasn't there to cling to and daddy was demonstrating...he latched to Zykariel at Malik's little demonstration. And thusly noting Yinn chewing a half dead bug, he kicked the bug away from his pet and duely snatched him up so he wouldn't get mistaken and eaten as well. Hm...they had two choices apparently. Outside was now evil...and inside was stifling and croweded. He gave a defeated sigh, cuddling Yinn. "Stables..." Said in that defeated child tone.
Malik was a bit too vivid sometimes...now the kids would throw an absolute fit of terror, everytime they got a papercut or something. Yes thus Malik was slanted a slightly annoyed look from Sevilin. Hm...seemed like getting Khaiver out of the fortress at least was the best idea...which meant Sevilin was just going to have to buck up and get with the program. A look to Zykariel then. "You're inventive...I'm sure you can find plenty to do...build a bug trap. Now what is it, inside or stables?" Yes, somewhat backing up Malik.

He just never learned, did he? Hadn't they just gone through this inside and she'd taken Malikhai away then adn she would damn well do it again. Piper would not allow him to frighten her son and since she was away and unable to scold Malik for it, Zahara was willing to fill in for her.
The look of horror that passed over Zykariel's face at the sight of that rat was devastating. But when Malikhai latched to him he fell into the role of the protector and laced an arm around his shoulders, keeping the younger boy close to his side.
No, he wasn't happy about the current choices and he kicked a rock in irritation. "Fine, we'll stay in the stables." He heaved out a sigh of frustration and plopped down inside. "If they want to eat us when we get hurt, won't they want to eat the bugs too and then decide we'd make a better meal?"
"Malik! You have got to stop doing that. They. Are. Children. If you want to frighten your little boy half to death and make him cry every time he falls and gets a scrape, so be it but don't you dare drag mine into it too. As difficult as it is for you, you need to start putting yourself in their minds and think about these things from their perspectives. Got it? Or I'm goign to forbid you from talking or having anything to do with them anymore. And don't you even pull that leader of the House crap with me. I'm sick and tired of you scaring your son half to death and knowing that Piper would never stand by and let it happen." Digging her finger into his chest before she left the men and walked into the stable. "Why don't you come visit the colts for a little bit. Maybe it will help you think of something to do?"

Malik paid little mind to Zahara and looked at the boys.
"you're safe here. Nightmares eat carrion worms. and they are scavengers, opportunists. they won't go after a large group, but the might try for duos and singles they find. carrion worms are attracted to blood, and vibration."
kneeling down a bit.
"Scraping your knee or skinning your elbow won't get thier attention. but when you hurt your knee, you know you tend to limp a bit. and that will. they can't tell the difference between an animal with a broken dragging leg and an elf with a hurt knee or a sprained ankle. and a scrape doesn't bleed enough, but a cut might."
"I don't want to take any chances. I may be a bit...overprotective without Piper here, and I know it can be stifling being cooped up all the time. but I'm trying to keep you as safe as I can until things are back to normal. once thier back that way, the whole of the grounds are yours to play in as much as you want, alright?"

Fin did as he was told and let fly an arrow for the slug-things eye. Just at it ahd done with Piper, it ducked, and the arrow thunked into the back of it's neck.
Leaf ran back in with her to blades to assist Piper. Their first step, now that the moon elf had successfully anchored the tghing, was to slice through the thick skin. Leaf went to work aroudn the things stomach.
After a time of slicing through the same spot, she reached the muscle and gut. Which also caused to be covered in a delightful mitxture of green blood and stomach juices.
She stood a moment, looking annoyed. Then walked a few feet to the right, and started slicing again.
Fin finally got an arrow into one of the slugs eyes.

Sevilin shook his head. He understood where Zahara was coming from and that Malik was being over protective and using harsh example about it....at least he was going back over his tracks and trying to reassure the boys that there was a slim chance of that happening. Walking over to Zahara he rested hsi hands on her shoulder in what she by now recognized as the 'let it go' gesture. How did it come to him playing referee? Oh right...he was the passive one and Piper was gone. Damn that woman.
Malikhai reguarded Malik, exactly one annoyance point from flipping names on him and calling him 'Father'. Just as the boy switched to formality with Piper when he was mad at her from mommy to mother, Malik got the same thing...at least parents knew when he was extremely upset. A look to the horses though...that was true...any of the horses that had fangs seemed to have a taste to eat anything.
A tilt of his head as he listened to his father go back over what he said to take the terror out of it and leave behind the warning.But he eventually gave a defeated sigh and a nod. "Okay daddy..." Mommy better get home sooner than soon now. But a look to Zahara at her suggestion and plopping Yinn on top of his head again, the draithix big enough to have to brace back toes on teh boy's shoulders, he toddled over to go take a peak. "Hey! Mommy got what she wanted!" Sure enough...little nightmares with wings of fire.
"Oh and if you break my bow, I'm breaking you Fin!" Malik had given her that, and she would not be a happy woman. But sword out,the sound little silver feathers clinking together lost in the noises made by the creature and the slicing of metal through slimy skin. Quite nasty. But she and fin worked at getting through that thing, which was leaving them very messy...oh she would have something to say about that later. With great effectiveness they were more or less laying the things side open as Fin was either keeping it distracted or actually blinding it. "Keep it up guys, sooner we get rid of this thing, the sooner we can find a dias, place an orb and move on."

Now why couldn't he just have said that in the first place? Instead he'd freaked both boys out, gotten her pissed off and now he went back and made it better. The boys were fine and she looked like a nagging b***h. Joy. She leaned back against Sevilin for a few moments and then walked forward and handed the boys a few sugar cubes. "Yes, she did. She's going to be very happy when she comes home and sees them." She opened the stall door and walked inside, petting at Fyleshin and gesturing Malikahi in. "You're next Kariel. We don't want to frighten them so be very very gentle."
Zykariel tilted his head at Malik then glanced back at his own parents for a moment. "I want it in writing." Just one more example of children being like sponges and sucking everything they hear up. Malik had more or less promised that they could play once things went back to normal. Promises from anyone but his parents, he wanted in writing so they couldn't go back and say they'd never said it.
He nodded to Malik before following after Malikhai and his mother and rested his chin on the stall door, gazing at the newborn colts. They did have fire tipped wings. "But it won't burn like Faete's doesn't unless we pinch them or pull thier tails right Mommy?"

A glance at Sevilin.
"I take it he got that from you."
A slight smirk before leaning against the stable wall for a moment, and then heading inside. first he'd get that in writing for Zykariel...and then he'd se about Khavier and Mahlari's response to his counter offer.

Sevilin crossed his arms and smirked back at Malik. "It's a good thing to pick up, don't you agree?" Watching him go back inside, probably to deal with a Khaiver who was ghosting around the place. "Get your business done with Khaiver, Malik, and I'll at least get him out of the fortress." Before leaning back against the stable wall...yeah he was mostly going to play body guard long as Zahara and the children were outside.
He took the cubes in hand and toddled into the stall, crouching down to be at laying down colt level, holding out his hands to the two, a sugar cube on each as Yinn more or less stretched from his head, sniffing at them. "Well then we just won't hurt them."

"That's right. But even scaring them could make it burn so be careful and remember that they are just little bitty babies just like you two were at one point." Reaching out and patting the horses neck before giving her a sugar cube as well. "They'll be gentle girl, I promise."
Fyleshin studied those who were entering the stall carefully and permitted each one. She neighed softly and licked the cube out of Zahara's hand.
The boy was the first to sniff at the cube curiously before his pink tongue came out and he swiped it out of his hand. He snorted at Yinn and shook his mane, fluttering his wings before settling back down. Yummy! Better than the milk!
Gathering courage after watching her brother do it, she too sniffed and then licked up her own cube. Yup! Got any more?
Zykariel watched them all and grinned. "They like sugar!" That was exciting now wasn't it? Though he lowered his voice immediately at his mother's head shake. "Oops...whispers are good around babies, right?" At her nod he whispered, "They like sugar."

Malik got a glass of wine and went to Khavier directly. didn't take long to find him either.
"Has the response come yet?"
and once this was done, he'd let sevilin know and then they could be rid of him. send him back to his mistress.
