The child sat there, soaking up what he was being told, glances of understanding flicking across his silvery eyes. Well Malik was versing it nicely now wasn't he? Very much so that the boy was deinfately getting the point. And not only did Malik explain the base, but also how it worked when it came to the boy's mother. "What if she saw it as motivation and she wasn't trying to be sneaky?" He knew all about motivation and such, parents liked to indulge on that line. But wasn't this nice? He was having a intelligent conversation with his father it was a good day. "If mommy got hurt, would you hurt the other lady?"

A slight grin.

"self preservation should have been more than enough for her to had over that medication. you see son, when me and piper came here, we took the spots of two other versions of ourselves. now if my reasoning is correct, if piper or myself at the time were to die, then it would create a paradox. our other self may come back into this plane, but we'd also be dead. this coudl collapse the plane, killing everyone."

not sure if he'd get all that, but it was worth a try.

"basically, if I died, I'd take everyone with me. So why should the oracle make piper agree to a deal for a future service if that would happen if she didn't give her my medicine? as for hurting the oracle if your mother got hurt...that woudl depend on the injury. if mom just has a few scratches or cuts, that's not too bad. she breaks a leg or worse, and yes, I will be seeking restitution."

Okay Ramoth was getting agitated, and nickered and kicked her stall. someone better get thier rears out here nad get these damn packs off her and get these things to malik or she was going to start getting really annoyed.

He tilted his head at that all....yeah that first part kind of all totally went over his head. Though he just nodded to it...better to at least look like he half understood, which he did, than to totally not understand at all. "Uh huh." Hushing up again to continue listening to what his father had to say. Though he blinked and nodded again. "Oh." Okay he got it now, though that wasn't happy thoughts now was it? No not at all. "What if mommy told you not to if you had the right to?"

Keely was the only one brave enough to face the nightmare when she was upset. Easily enough she walked into the stall and reached up, patting at the horses neck. "It's okay girl." Going about working the horse out of her tack and pulling out the papers that were in the saddlebag. Hey those must be from Piper. Reaching into her pocket she pulled out a cube of sugar, "here you are girl."

"there are some things even your mother can't hold back."

a slight smirk. leaning forward and folding his hands on the table and looking at his son.

"But were she to ask me not to, I might not. it really does depend on the injury. but why are we talking of such things as pain and injury...surely there is something you'd rather talk about. I know you don't like to think about your mother being hurt anymore than I do."

Ramoth ate her sugar cube, and gave the usual soft snort that signaled she felt much better now that she'd been properly taken care of. which ment others in the stables were paying thier attention to Ramoth as she relayed through shadow and wind what was going on. which also ment to Malik as well.

Malik's ears twitched lightly, while the shadow that he cast on teh floor wavered a bit. Piper was near exhaustion, burned but not overly much, cuts and scrapes that may be expected from running out of a raging inferno with no vision. hey Ramoth knew the eye trick and how to tell when it was in effect...mostly thanks to Serino. Of course Malikhai's shadow wavered too, though Ramoth didn't go in detail and merely assured the younger one that his mother was quite alright...provided he coudl understand her yet. she was trying at Malik's behest to get the boy to understand her shadow speech.

Hm that was an interesting answer now wasn't it? From his experience mommy could get daddy to do almost anything. But a blink and a shrug before propping his elbows on the table and dropping his chin into his hands to hold his head up. "I don't know...I just wanted to ask." But no he didn't like to think about mommy being hurt...but it was kind of something that was constantly on the mind. "Tell me a story?"

He gave a little sigh, though his ears twitched and he looked around for a moment as if someone was talking to him, but they weren't there. He'd heard that before a few times, didn't understand all of it but could pick things out...wood elf in him made it quite handy for him to pick up other sorts of languages. A look to his father. "Shadow's talkin'."

Keely gave the horse another pat, before she worked her way out of the stall. She didn't see why everyone was afraid of that horse, if you knew how to handle her then you were just fine and there was nothing to worry about at all. Silly people. But inside with her, carrying that little pack of papers with her to the dinning room, and thus Malik and Malikhai, Keely walking over to Malik and holding out the packet for him. "From Piper I assume."

Leaf shrugged. "When we retrieved the water orb, there was plenty of ligh under the water. The moss did not grow there." A moment to sift through her bag. "But I have a few glowing sticks on my. The chemicals inside should still be working, they do not run on magic."

"Are we going to walk then, with your horse...winded?"

"We'll just have to make sure we don't run through those hastely." For now she'd keep the rebreathers in her own things and pass them around when the time came. No need to perhaps create situations where they could loose things. "Probably some kind of phosphorus rock or something in the water...we'll find out when we get there." Though a look to Serino who was once again resting. "If we has a solid landmark that he could visualize and breeze to, it would be easier....but since we're stuck with nothing but vague, I suppose we'll ride as far as he can manage, then walk till he's up to riders again."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 15, 2007 3:04 pm

Leaf shook her head. "I've never been to this place, so I would not know of any landmarks."

She packed her things, picked up the camp, erased their presence here. "Let us walk for a time then. Our legs are stiff from rest and we coulf use the blood flowing through our bodies."

Another look at the map, and she strided iff in the approprite direction.

But it was time to get going for them it seemed...Piper would of preferred a few more hours, after all, she hadn't gotten as much rest as the other two had, but she could always saddle up and take some reverie along the way if she needed to, she was fine for right now...of course that's what she was going to tell herself anyway. "Sounds like a plan to me, time waits for no one, not even elves." Thus off with them, the group starting the next leg of thier journey on foot, Serino following along behind them. Idly she fingered teh little glass globe that now hung around her neck below her collar.

"Yes, that's Ramoth tell you about your mother's condition."

though a look to keely and taking the package without much thought to keely. damn near snatched it. before giving the ones for his sone over and taking the time to read the ones for himself.

"Thank you Keely. feel free to go about your own way...I'm not going to have anymore tasks for you today so you can do whatever you'd like."

It was a good two hundred miles from where we camped, Serino was exhausted. But in a way it was worth it, I’d never seen the underdark look so much like the surface. The ceiling was so high you couldn’t see where it ended and there were these bugs that looked like glowing stars. Deepest reaches of the underdark are surprising. So then…by calculations…we traveled one hundred and fifty miles north before, and another two hundred this time. Three hundred and fifty miles at least, that’s how far away I am from my family. Hard to think about that sometimes. But things are fine, well at least as fine as they can be...one thing I know for sure, I'm not going to do this ever ever again...I may be young, but I think this is that one big adventerous life experience everyone is supposed to have...so you won't have to worry about me getting that urge ever again now do you? I'm sure that just thrills you.

We’re in camp again…and idle thoughts often come to those who sit as such. I was thinking of Andal…it’s going to be winter there in two or so years…I think we should go visit, take Malikhai. Winter is your favorite and it dampens all pollen and such, makes the air easier to breath…I think Malikhai would do just fine, and he’s sure to enjoy the snow.

Idle things aside, I'll get back in touch with you as soon as I can...link crystals only seem to go but for so long till they need to recharge. Behave yourself Malik, and again don't worry too much.

"It's a pretty sound." Which he assumed was because Ramoth was pretty...hey she was a girl after all, and he was at times a flatterer...that was when he wasn't being shy. Though he excitedly took the letter that was his and worked it open, reading it. Hey! She had written this one in the other language he was suppose to be learning, daddy's language. The last one had been in mommy's. Probably Piper's way of making sure the boy somewhat kept up in his studies...if he wanted to know what she wrote, he had to keep on top of it. "Daddy, when is soon?" Because his mother kept saying she'd be back soon...so when was that going to be? He was quite ready for soon to happen.

Keely stifled a smile. She didn't mind Malik reacting as he did to getting something from his wife, after all it was no secret to her that Malik was missing the woman something awful and was even more so worried about her. Keely worried too, but what was there for them to do but hope things went well? Exactly. But a nod to Malik, "Thank you." Thus turning and walking over to Malikhai. "You need a bath tonight, remember that." Giving a giggle to the boys pout as she walked off...yes it seemed she was much the replacement Piper in some aspects.

There journey was a long one. Again they were tired apon nearing their destination. Although Piper's windy hrose helped them a great deal, and Leaf made sure Piper got more sleep, since she didn't seem as rested as her and Fin.

Fin had been quiet most of the journy, Leaf figured that maybe he was excited for the comming temple, or frightened or...well, she wasn't very good at interpreting emotion.

"We're almost there I think." Ther terrain changed once again. Now, they walked over an endless stretch of under-earth desert.

Malik read his letter, and glanced up at his son's question to him.

"soon is relative. it's a short time, but a short time for elves, and a short time for humans or dwarves or most any other race is different. She's trying to get back as soon as she can, meaning she is working as hard and fast as she can to get this done and be back home with you."

though setting his letter down, tapping it lightly.

"though I think in a few years, according to your mother's timeframe, we'll be taking you to see your grandfather."
PostPosted: Fri Mar 16, 2007 8:47 pm

It was funny, even with the four hours she only needed to feel absolutely refreshed, she was still feeling worn. Though she supposed that was to expected. But the combination of riding and walking was going good for them, Serino didn't get too tired and they kept thier blood going and such as they continued on. And well...deserts weren't fun. On foot once more, they kept up thier steady pace, more or less guestimating their position with the help of the map that Piper had been drawing. "Well...we shouldn't have too much farther to go if I'm on track here...and my map skills haven't failed me yet."

He didn't like that answer too much, thus the slightly pouty yet annoyed look from his son. Why couldn't soon be tomorrow? That would be a much better answer in his opinion. But he gave a restless surrendering sigh to the answer, having to just accept it and he reread his letter...it was nice to know that mommy wrote him his very own letter...and no, he didn't share it with anyone else. It was specifically his after all.

Though he brightened considerably when he was told of the little information that apparently was in his father's letter and not his own. "Really?! I get to go where grandpa and grandma are?!" Oh wasn't the just the most exciting thing he had heard since he was allowed to do sword lessons.

A slight smile to his son's pout, he knew the feeling there well. but a nod to his exclamation.

"in a couple years. not anytime soon...unless mother thinks otherwise when she gets back. see the weather there is much different, there's plants and such that make it hard for people not used to it to breath easily. which is why she suggested winter, when there's not so much of that. but we can see when she gets back about it."

folding up his letter carefully, and tapping it on the table a few times.

"Alright. if you want, we'll get you some more lessons with your sword, and then you'll get your bath later tonight. other than that today you need to be keeping up with your other studies, including your magic book. that way when the magic is restored, you won't fall behind, alright?"
