He grinned lightly at the boy. "Well, you're not supposed to jump up and down in it son...you have to be sneaky in it. You'll learn." Though if he knew anything, when in a life threatening situation, you hardly cared what noise you were making if there was noise all around you. "Keep trying...but you never want to swing it like a bat regularly. Hold it like you would swing it and look at your feet." He knew from experience that you would slice right into your own lower leg and ankle if you tried that...espcially with his style of polearm. Khaiver never told him that when he was being taught...but he wasn't going to teach as Khaiver taught him.

"Sneaky...like when we're playing pirates and trying to keep the bad captain from figuring out where we are? Okay, I can do that." He shifted in it slightly. "It is kinda heavy though Daddy." He listened to his father for a moment and then took on the stance glancing down and blinking for a moment. Was he supposed to be seeing something down here? Or maybe it was a test? Then he glanced up. "Oooh." Understanding dawned and his face paled slightly. "That would really hurt wouldn't it?" A glance back at his mother in the stands. "And Mommy would be real unhappy. Let's not do that." Thus back to practicing the way Daddy had shown him first.

Malik watched his own son, nodding lightly at how he was doing. though the new armor was a bit more restrictive in movement, and was giving him some trouble.
"the key to working with armor like ours, is fluid motion. here let me show you."
Malik had his armor and weapon brought, and put it on, stadning by his son and going through the same sequence slowly.
"See the little differences? those little differences make it so the armor doesn't twist or bunch up. so it flows smoothly over you like scales on a fish. armor is there to protect you, not hinder you."
not to mention that bunching up or awkward movements left you open to attack. that's how he was taught. you took a beating until you learned how to move so the armor could do it's job. but just like Sevilin, he had no intention of teaching his son that way. at least for now.

"Yes...it hurts really bad, and then you can't walk and run and play for a while." A glance back at Zahara. "And yes, Zahara would be real unhappy indeed." Nice to know his boy caught onto things quickly...could potientially save him from a lot of things easily avoidable. "Alright, let's work on your feet...just watch." Using the staff he had again as a polearm, doing a basic forward strike commom for the double bladed version of the weapons...and yes that version of weapon was a bit harder. But you didn't start with easy in drow society.
"The length and blades add weight forward, so you have to compensate with your stance...or else you'll fall on your face and that's not fun now is it?" Yes, making it a bit more kid friendly...running yourself through on your own polearm, wasn't too good to say to a child.
Scales on a fish him? Fish did a pretty good job of moving around... especially when you pull them out of the water onto land and they flopped all around all funny like. And other things had scales too and they moved really really good. Dragons came to mind, but he was a child...they usually did. Dragons or pirates.
But yay hands on demonstration personally from daddy. And as always when Malik was doing something as his son was around, he watched tenatively at everything that was going on and look at that he could really see the different...the tilt of a shoulder or extended difference of an arm, a rotate of the whole of the body more than just a part. Alright them mimic, adjust. Hey! That was a lot easier...but he still couldn't fathom how daddy could move around so fast...Malikhai was still clunky in his walking. "Like that right?"

Zykariel watched avidly, filing away the instructions he was being given and waiting until Daddy was done demonstrating before he did what he'd been shown. He was still shaky with the new weapon but it was becoming easier to get the movements down. They were jerky instead of fluid and smooth the way Sevilin's were but that would come with practice and time. He kept his legs spread shoulder width and took an experimental strike at the air. "Okay now can I hit stuff?"

He watched the boy....practice would smooth everything out. But he almost chuckled at the boy's enthusiasm and he leaned on the staff he had as he had planted it into the ground. "Yes, you may hit something...not someone. Remember...no bat swining." It was odd watching the boy though...was kind of like watching himself when he was young like that...but in a much more pleasant light.

He glanced around eagerly and located one of the targets set up in the arena for just that purpose. He walked over to one and then watched his feet to make sure that they were correctly positioned then held his polearm and gave a swing, letting the left blade cut into the target and then following it up with the right. A rowing motion was exactly right. Pleased with his success he began to levy a bunch of blows on the target going faster and testing his bounds slightly with each one. Then looking back at his father for confirmation. "Am I doing it right Daddy?"

"Yes like that. it also works the same with your feet. small adjustment to let the armor do it's job. it'll help you move easier and walk better too. I know you don't like having to move slow all the time to avoid falling down."
not to mention it leaves him vulnerable to all sorts of things.
"work on that for a few more rounds, adn then we'll try something new, alright?"

Wasn't that cute, he picked things up really really well...next think you know he'd be sparing against something that would hit back. "Slow down some, learn to do it while moving around your target some. Just like when you play pirates." Relating was key here. "But yes you're doing a fine job Zykariel." No need to expect perfection.
He grinned that particular grin. Mommy said he ran around like a squirrel...not that he knew what a squirrel was, but one must be like him if mommy said that. "Okay." Taking a look on his feet and slowly adjusting his stance until there was a click of comfort. Hey he was right. So them along with praciticing with his new movement abilities he took to doing it while moving aound some. Had to impress daddy of course.

"It's funner if I have somebody to practice against though." He grinned at his father and then turned back to the target, watching his feet as he pretended he was actually fighting someone. They wouldn't be staying in the same place all the time. He monitored his movements a little more and then danced up and swung at his target before pushing back and balancing on the balls of his feet. Hey! He was getting used to this chainmail too.

Malik watched his son with his arms slightly crossed, occasionally toeing at his feet to widen or shorten his stance.
"Alright, your good with that. Now we're going to learn some new things."
taking his sword and leading Malikhai away from the dummy.
"So far we've used the low guard. that's what the stance is called with your sword held lower, and pointing out toward your opponent. this new thing is the high guard. So watch me close."
malik stood up, one foot before the other, and lifted the sword high and straight over his head.
"From this stance, it is almost entirely offense. you attack like so."
slicing straight down, then at a downward angle from each side.
"this strokes are ment to divert the opponent's blade, while setting up for making a strike of your own. and you have to remember your footwork."
showing his son some sidestepping high guard swipes, an dsome of the follow ups, like coming down past the other sword, and then gripping the blade and shoving the edge into an opponent's throat, for example.
"Now try it. and you have to keep the sword as straight as you can, so your balance and momentum doesn't get thrown off kilter when you swing or move."

"More fun." Gah grammar...why did he do that? Oh right, wanted the boy to speak proper at times. An ocassional look to Zahara to see how annoyed she may be with all of this before giving an order to a random serf to grab his own polearm, turning his attention back to his son. "Good, come here." Waiting for the boy to come over and he took up his polearm which had been brought to him by this time. "Alright, time for something new. Wanna try something fancy?"
Had to keep the boy's interest. "Watch." Thus he sunk one end of his pole arm into the ground, placing his boot on the pole and keeping his arm out so it was help at an outward angle to his body. "Good defense move. When someone knocks one end loose from your hand, get it to fall like this. Place your boot on once side, brace with your other, and then throw your weight back...as you do so, flip your wrist and kick it up. you let the polearm flip in your hand, then grab it with both." After explaining thus giving a demonstration for the boy of the move. Wasn't overly fancy, used momentum so it was easy. "Go on, try. It's okay if you don't get it."
He was actually quite good at quick correction, and didn't fall even or stop a stroke when his father toed at his feet. Most would probably get distracted by such a thing. But he perked at the prospect of something new adn quickly toddled after his fahter. Hey! Moving was easier. That looked just so absolutely fun now didn't it? Very much so. Maybe he'd be really really good by the time mommy got back and she'd be impressed.
But he took his stance and raised the sword, though that was done a time or two as he got used to the feeling of the weight as well as figuring how to make adjustments to account for his armor. Sword strokes were taken after that was figured out and one could see him working things out in his head. A stroke would be messy, the would correct and it was rather nice. And sooon enough he was looking the mini version of Malik in combat...although less graceful and a little slower, bit rough in transitions. Though he did stumble once, armor weight making him quickstep a few times to get his balance...he was quite proud that he didn't fall.

Zykariel watched, his eyes going wide in admiration as his father performed a neat move and then encouraged him to try it too. He bit down on his lower lip in concentration and then fixed his polearm so that it mimicked his father's. He'd watched the move and then tried to copy it but it was harder than it looked. He kicked at the polearm and watched as it spun up but he missed catching it in time with his hand. He waited a moment and tried again, this time getting it right since he'd remembered to flip his wrist. "Hey, I did it." Thus practicing his newfound move again.

Malik nodded and smiled lightly.
"Good work. very good work for your first try with it. Now we're going to try a combination. use the same sequence you been doing, just add the high guard stuff at the end of it. take as much space as you need. and feel free to improvise some. see what you like to do and how it works."

Wasn't that cute. Got a grin out of Sevilin, the boy was right good with that thing. Then again it was probably because he wanted to do it. "Very good...here's a tip. If you even have to get away really quick, use your polearm as a vault aid. Helps you jump away really quick. Now then..." He took hsi own in one hand and held it out. "Let's learn how to swing it with one hand, but not like a bat. Always hold in the middle, and merely use your arm to and wrist to flip each side. Hold your pole arm to the side of your body so you don't catch yourself." Demonstrating for the boy.
OKie dokie. Could do easily. He had memorized the sequences, so it was easy enough to combo things together as then resolved to having fun with it and from the ending of sequence came psudo swashbuckling that he modified naturally from the weight of his sword and the armor. The air made an interesting opponent sometimes and he was having his fun. Tryign to be all fancy like daddy was, wasn't that cute? "Daddy how come mommy thinks I'm too little for this?" He was doing good in his opinion.
