Zykariel pouted for a moment but nodded. "'Kay. How did the environment do it for you?" Did the ground swallow it or something?
Zahara spun and glanced at him, settling her cloak more comfortably on her shoulders and running her hand along the back of her neck to remove her hair from beneat the folds. "Yes as a matter of fact I did learn something earlier. Not to go out alone which is why I'm taking Keely." She took the news regarding the east bank with a grain of salt since anything that she could have gotten over there either wasn't horribly necessary, could be picked up in Deepwater at the market, traded in Vesendar, or found in another location. "Okay, we'll stay away from the east bank. No need to die a horrible death from whatever is out there." Thus turning to Keely. "Keely be a dear and run upstairs and grab my bag for me? thanks." And back to Sevilin, hands hitting her hips. "I'm not wearing chainmail."

Well, looked like time for another altercation. Thus at being requsted to fetch something, she was more than happy to head on upstairs to the room the drow was staying in and rifle around till she found the woman's bag.
He really really wanted to shake her at this point. "Keely is going to keep you safe?" The 'you've got to be kidding'. Hell she probably knew it was a joke too but was taking her just to say she had someone with her. But he gained that flat look. "You're wearing chainmail, or armor, or something. Seeing as last time you didn't and you foudn yourself with a target slapped on your back. You either put something on, or you're not going anywhere."
Thus turning his attention back to his son and gave him a slight hug. "Well, the ceiling cracked and let all of this bad gas in, and it just happened to be walking past that point at the time. It got melted...or something."

"No, Keely is not going to keep me safe. She's merely going to watch and tell me if something's coming and then I am going to keep her safe." Then she busied herself checking through a few things in her pockets. "Unless you've got someone better to go with me?" Raising an eyebrow at that. There was no one else. Malik was needed at the fortress and Sevilin needed to stay with Zykariel, same reason she wasn't allowed to go fight in the first place. Realizing she won that round she congratulated herself and then turned to meet Keely halfway when he slapped down an ultimatum. Spinning she glared at him. "I hate chainmail and armor is too hard to do my job in. I will not feel trapped while I need to be loose and able to move. And I would like to point out that I took care of myself last time I got a target slapped on my back." Walking closer she attempted to stare him down. "What are you going to do Sevilin? Hold me down and put it on yourself?" Which was a moot point because they both knew he wouldn't.
Zykariel blinked. "I guess Rawr shouldn't go outside either." He glanced between his parents and sighed. "Why do you always have to fight?" The little boy began squirming trying to get down from his father's arms.

"Because Zahara doesn't know what's good for her, that's why we fight." Though he put the boy down at his squirming and walked over to her, getting practically toe to toe with her. "Being abducted is hardly taking care of yourself." And for once in his life he didn't drop his eyes to a woman who was attempting to stare him down and intimidate him. Look, he grew a spine somewhere.
"You don't think I won't?" After all he knew what she meant by feeling trapped in chainmail, which is pricely why his was styled the way it was. No sleeves nad split considerably at the bottom on both sides...got rid of that confined in it feeling. "You really really think that? Try me." Now the one working on staring her down and holding his ground to her. This was interesting.

See? She shouldn't have told him the whole story. "That was only because Malik showed up. If Malik hadn't come trying to play the hero I would have taken care of the jerk and been fine." And then he called her bluff. She had to tilt her head back to keep eye contact with him but his gaze never wavered. Dammit. He was serious about this. Another time she might have felt warm and fuzzy over his concern for her safety. Unfortunately she wasn't quite thinking that way. She was beginning to lose her nerve though and she stiffened her spine and forced herself to keep staring him down. "You can't," she tossed out triumphantly. "I don't have any chainmail and my armor was left back home with the rest of my stuff. I came with what I had on and I wasn't wearing chaimail or armor. So that's a moot point." Then glancing up and noting Keely. "Oh good. Come on Keely we're leaving." Stepping to the side and heading for the door. He called her bluff, now she was calling his.
Zykariel crossed his arms and stared at the floor for a moment before he turned and walked into the main room, sitting back down and fiddling with the cards. How come his parents weren't like Malik and Piper?

"Malik has nothing to do with it. Had he shown up or not, your attention to him being there proves that you can't resist distractions. Distraction leads people like you into trouble. So stop using him as your scapegoat, it isn't becoming." Giivng a snicker as her and then a smirk as she tried to call his bluff and though she could walk away. He didn't think so. Two steps closed space between them again and he grabbed her by the wrist, gave a jerk to stop her walking and then started pulling her along behind himself as he started walking off, heading for downstairs. "You forget where we are, I have plenty of resources to slap you into already made chainmail and I will. You want me to prove that I would hold you down and put you in it, fine I will."
Keely blinked...wow they were really going at it this time weren't they? That wasn't such a fun thing at all now was it? Nope. A sigh as she turned and decided to trail off after Zykariel...kid couldn't be alone. She crouched down next to him. "It's okay kiddo, grown ups are silly."

"That's a ridiculous assumption and you and I both know it! So maybe I need to be a little more ruthless and kill on contact. Lesson learned but I don't need chainmail for that." She glared at him when he grabbed her wrist and dug in her heels though it didn't do much good. Finally she consented to walking behind him since his stride was bigger than hers and she was not about to be dragged around. Plus, she was afraid if she didn't he might do something really embarrassing like toss her over his shoulder and carry her down there if she made too much of a fuss. "Sevilin I don't want chainmail..."
Zykariel shrugged and shuffled the cards the way his mother had taught him and dealt a hand out to Keely then picked up his own, messing the pile in the middle. "Got any twos Keely?"

At least he didn't have to drag her around like a child, that would just be irritating beyond all belief. "You think you don't like being confined? I know what you mean, but that doesn't stop me from wearing chainmail." Having dragged her down to the armory he took through rifling through some chainmail, one hand still hold her wrist so she didn't bolt on him. "It's kind of like health, you hate it but you put up with it anyway." Take that logic.
She gave a sigh and sat down on the floor, taking the cards she was given and holding them in one hand. "No, go fish." Quiet for a moment, poor boy. "Can you talk to me abot it?"

She stood there watching him go through piles of things one wrist still held up so she couldn't run. Not that she was considering it since he'd just chase her down and then she'd end up irritating him far more than she wanted to. Unarguable logic. In her opinion there should not be such a thing. "Fine. Though I would like to point out that I am a big girl you know. I tie my own boots and everything." Small attempt at humor before she sighed, "Why are you insisting on this?"
Zykariel stared down at the cards in his hand, the numbers and pictures blurring through a sheen of tears and he quickly swiped a fist under his eyes before picking up a new card. "I don't think so. It's kinda complicated and hard to understand." Glancing up at her sadly before he shook his head. "It's just not fair..." Sniffling once before he sat up straight and sighed. "Your turn."

"Because you're going to get yourself killed if you keep doing what you're doing. You think you can rule the world and that it can't touch you. A foolish notion of young elves...and it's time you need to grow up some and realize things aren't as you think." Turning to her and holding out a shirt of chainmail to her. "You can either put it on or I'm going to put it on you for you."
"You have any tens?" Watching the boy in his motions...he was so upset and that was a horrible thing now wasn't it? "How come you think that I won't understand?" Then a pause and she though of phrasing it again. "Well...who do you think can understand?"

She rolled her eyes. There was that 'you're young and foolish' lecture again. She really wasn't that young and she could take care of herself. She'd dealt with her sister for years, dealt with what happened to her, run away from home and made a life for herself otherwise. She'd proven herself in battle, proven herself in studies and even given birth to a child. "I'm always going to be young to you, aren't I. At least if I were gone you would only have one child to raise. You probably woudn't even miss me." A shake of her head and then she took the mail from him and frowned at it. Stupid chainmail. Lifting her arms she slipped it over her head and belted it at her waist then forced a smile, assuming the modeling position. It wasn't as heavy and uncomfortable as she'd though it would be. "Sexiness factor gone. Happy?"
Kariel glanced up at Keely and his face scrunched up in thought. It was hard to explain. "Well...because you're not a Mommy and you're not a Daddy and you aren't like me either..." He glanced down at his cards and shook his head. "Go fish." Then peering at her for a moment as he thought about her question. It was a good question. "Well..maybe Mr. Malik could? He's a Daddy after all."

He let every indication of emotion on his features drop, letting his expression smooth to nothing that she would be able to distinguish at all. A merely blank look that gave her absolutely nothing. "No. Not that you would care what I think anyway. It's all about you." Thus merely turning from her and walking away, heading to the arena instead of back upstairs at the moment...besides there was no damn place to be alone in here anymore.
Oh so we were having parent problem were we? But she picked up a card and then pretended to analyze her other ones. "Oh so I can't because I'm not a mommy or daddy huh?" Quiet again. "So do you want me to ask Malik to talk then? Since he can understand? Got any fives?"

That was never a good thing. Immediately she wished she could take her words back. When would she learn to watch what she said and stop being so damn defensive? Caustic jokes and heartless jabs made up her armor to keep herself from getting hurt. Instead of giving him a chance to express anything she ruined it. A shake of her head and she sighed then hurried forward and grasped his arm, trying to keep him from walking away. "Sevilin...I didn't mean that the way it came out. Just a tasteless joke. I'm sorry." She frowned and then thought of a way to make it up to him. "Why don't you come with me? That way you can make sure I don't do anything stupid and stay safe."
"I'm sorry Keely..." He looked at his cards and then passed one over to her before he noticed that he had a pair of kings in his hand. Setting those two down before he gazed at her with hope. "Do you think you could get him too?" Then he shook his head. "Wait, it's my turn." Seeing the five in his hand, he grinned. "Got any fives Keely?"

A look down to his arm where she had hold of him, wasn't that always the way? She either walked away from him or tried to keep him from walking away from her. Did he believe her? It was hard to think all the hurtful things she said were all jokes, it really was. "Because someone has to stay with Zykariel...I won't put him through the stress of believing both of his parents are out there and may not come back." A shake of his head and he looked to her, but still blankly. "How you you can be worried over me and tell me to come back and such, like earlier before I left today, but no one can care about you? Why the double standard Zahara?"
She grinned at him and handed over her card. "I'm sure he would speak to you if you think that it's very extra important. He wants you to be happy you know, he just acts tough." Putting a little bit of a tough voice in the phrase to get the child to laugh or something.

She sighed, she'd forgotten about her son's reluctance to have his parents both missing in light of recent events. "Right..." Well there went her olive branch so to speak. She dropped her hand and tugged on the chainmail quite uncomfortable all of a sudden. She stared up at him for a moment and then licked her lips debating over the answer. Normally she would throw out some silly joke and play it off or change the subject but for some reason she decided that wasn't a good idea in this case. She ran her hands up and down her arms as though she were chilly and shrugged. "I don't know..." Her boots became very interesting as she mulled it over. "No one ever has before and I got used to it I suppose. I guess deep down I'm just afraid." She glanced back up at him, her eyes full of her vulnerability. "If I know someone cares about me then I want to care about them back and then that leaves me open to them...to hurt or betra- or something like that..." she finished hastily realizing she was revealing far too much.
Zykariel giggled and took the card, putting them both down. "You shouldn't let me get away with that Keely. You won't win that way." But he looked much happier and nodded. "Because I'm part of his House and it's important his House is happy." Or something like that. "Got any threes?"
