See, my thing is this. The reason for the old threads being retired was some bull about too many pages being intimidating for newer members. Now, assuming I were a new member... I wouldn't give a flying ******** about there being a thousand page chat thread. Does it mean the guild is old? Yeah. But that doesn't mean the active userbase has been consistent or that there isn't room for anyone else.

What would bother me is not knowing where the hell things go. And both this thread and the chat thread are rather ambiguous.

Gah...my roommate gave her dog away yesterday, because she "can't" take him when she moves, supposedly...but she just messaged me to say that he'll be back when I get home because he bit the woman who took him.

Part of me is wondering what the hell they did to get him to bite her, because despite being very excitable he's never shown any inclination to bite anyone, but most of me is (as bad as this sounds) frustrated that he's back, because I'm sick of taking care of him when she's not around.



BUT tonight I will have a new mattreeeeeeesssss.......hooray!

To me (and probably Aldo), venting = bitching. I'd say truly awesome s**t deserves a new topic. Average good/bad goes in the chat thread. Emo whining and bitchfests are the realm of the vent thread.

And if we're so averse to being spammy, then why does this thread have 3-4 times the posts of the chat thread? You and Ryo say it's for anything that won't spark a conversation. Well... that's spam. But like you said... we all post here and the actual chat thread is on life-support. Unless you're saying people post here because they don't consider their stuff worthy of being replied to, but we do anyways.

honestly, that's the way i've been approaching this thread all along. i only post in it if i'm responding to something OR i have a legitimate b***h of my own. if i haven't got anything to say to other people's posts and s**t is going ok for me, i don't post here.

so putting that kind of rule on this thread would not change the way i approach it.

That maybe be true but I wouldn't have know about restaurant city if you hadn't invited me.

To me venting is completely different from bitching.

If you want a b***h only thread thats fine by me, we'll just have to define a bit more of what venting is compared to bitching.
Or define bitching, and seaking chat and everything else goes here. confused

for what it's worth, i figure bitching is the same as venting, and i don't see what the big deal is about the two words meaning the same thing.

as for wanting or not wanting a vent only thread, or b***h only thread, or whatever you call the thread you go to if you want to complain, that seems like the only real issue here. i mean, we can all agree that we don't need 3 threads for the same purpose, right? so the question should be, do we want a thread to serve THIS purpose - the purpose of complaining about your terrible shitty life. if that's not something that needs its own thread, then this thread is basically pointless and can be ignored, and posts that would be made here can be made in another "general chat" thread instead. right? i mean is there another question going on here that i am missing?

so, my 2 cents on that topic: since i try not to overwhelm any threads - i try not to post more than once per page if it's not to respond to other people, for instance - i don't use this thread all that much for its intended purpose. i don't want to hit people over the head with my problems, and restraining myself like that ensures that i prioritize the issues and don't waste my post on something that isn't the most important thing shitting me up the wall that day, or whatever. but i understand that other people have lives that are crappy more often than mine, and i don't want to take away their venue for it.
it wouldn't bother me if that were to go on in the general thread, unless it got really out of hand.

Which brings me back to the question: how is the purpose of this thread different than the purpose of a chat thread? Why are there two separate threads when the point in retiring the old topics appears to have been to condense things?

If it is for bitching, then why do we have people talking about good things? If it is for intense emotions, why do we have people posting that they stubbed their toe? It seems like there really is no consensus on what makes this thread different from the chat thread except for the fact that people actually use this thread.

I don't want to see a bunch of rules about what specific things go in which thread. Which seems contrary to the fact that I'm even talking about it, but what I mean is... Each thread should have a general purpose that is pretty apparent by the topic title. I don't want each thread to have a list of appropriate topics because that just confuses things more. I think there should be an intuitive purpose for both threads. And if that purpose is essentially the same...
